⁵¹ Wee are confounded because wee haue heard reproch: shame hath couered our faces, for straungers are come into the Sanctuaries of the Lordes House.

¹³ Thou makest vs a reproche to our neighbours, a iest and a laughing stocke to them that are round about vs. ¹⁴ Thou makest vs a prouerbe among the nations, and a nodding of the head among the people. ¹⁵ My confusion is dayly before me, and the shame of my face hath couered me, ¹⁶ For the voyce of the slaunderer and rebuker, for the enemie and auenger.

⁷ For thy sake haue I suffred reproofe: shame hath couered my face. ⁸ I am become a stranger vnto my brethren, euen an aliant vnto my mothers sonnes. ⁹ For the zeale of thine house hath eaten mee, and the rebukes of them that rebuked thee, are fallen vpon me. ¹⁰ I wept and my soule fasted, but that was to my reproofe. ¹¹ I put on a sacke also: and I became a prouerbe vnto them. ¹² They that sate in the gate, spake of mee, and the drunkards sang of me. ¹³ But Lord, I make my praier vnto thee in an acceptable time, euen in the multitude of thy mercie: O God, heare me in the trueth of thy saluation.

¹³ Let them be confounded and consumed that are against my soule: let them be couered with reproofe and confusion, that seeke mine hurt.

³ Lift vp thy strokes, that thou mayest for euer destroy euery enemie that doeth euill to the Sanctuarie. ⁴ Thine aduersaries roare in the middes of thy Congregation, and set vp their banners for signes. ⁵ He that lifted the axes vpon the thicke trees, was renowmed, as one, that brought a thing to perfection: ⁶ But nowe they breake downe the carued worke thereof with axes and hammers. ⁷ They haue cast thy Sanctuarie into the fire, and rased it to the grounde, and haue defiled the dwelling place of thy Name.

¹⁸ Remember this, that the enemie hath reproched the Lord, and the foolish people hath blasphemed thy Name. ¹⁹ Giue not the soule of thy turtle doue vnto the beast, and forget not the Congregation of thy poore for euer. ²⁰ Consider thy couenant: for the darke places of the earth are full of the habitations of the cruell. ²¹ Oh let not the oppressed returne ashamed, but let the poore and needie prayse thy Name.

¹² And render to our neighbours seuen folde into their bosome their reproche, wherewith they haue reproched thee, O Lord.

²⁹ Let mine aduersaries be clothed with shame, and let them couer themselues with their confusion, as with a cloke.

³ Haue mercie vpon vs, O Lord, haue mercie vpon vs: for we haue suffered too much contempt. ⁴ Our soule is filled too full of ye mocking of the wealthy, and of the despitefulnes of the proude.

¹ By the riuers of Babel we sate, and there wee wept, when we remembred Zion. ² Wee hanged our harpes vpon the willowes in the middes thereof. ³ Then they that ledde vs captiues, required of vs songs and mirth, when wee had hanged vp our harpes, saying, Sing vs one of the songs of Zion.

²² O yee disobedient children, returne and I wil heale your rebellions. Behold, we come vnto thee, for thou art the Lord our God. ²³ Truely the hope of the hilles is but vaine, nor the multitude of mountaines: but in the Lord our God is the health of Israel. ²⁴ For confusion hath deuoured our fathers labour, from our youth their sheepe and their bullocks, their sonnes and their daughters. ²⁵ Wee lie downe in our confusion, and our shame couereth vs: for we haue sinned against the Lord our God, we and our fathers from our youth, euen vnto this day, and haue not obeyed the voyce of the Lord our God.

³ And their nobles haue sent their inferiours to the water, who came to the welles, and founde no water: they returned with their vessels empty: they were ashamed and confounded, and couered their heads.

¹⁹ Surely after that I conuerted, I repented: and after that I was instructed, I smote vpon my thigh: I was ashamed, yea, euen confounded, because I did beare the reproch of my youth.

¹³ And burnt the House of the Lord, and the Kings house, and all the houses of Ierusalem, and all the great houses burnt he with fire.

¹⁰ The enemie hath stretched out his hande vpon al her pleasant things: for she hath seene the heathen enter into her Sanctuarie, whom thou diddest commande, that they shoulde not enter into thy Church.

¹⁵ All that passe by the way, clap their hands at thee: they hisse and wagge their head vpon the daughter Ierusalem, saying, Is this the citie that men call, The perfection of beautie, and the ioye of the whole earth? ¹⁶ All thine enemies haue opened their mouth against thee: they hisse and gnashe the teeth, saying, Let vs deuoure it: certainely this is the day that we looked for: we haue founde and seene it. ¹⁷ The Lord hath done that which he had purposed: he hath fulfilled his worde that he had determined of old time: he hath throwen downe, and not spared: hee hath caused thine enemie to reioyce ouer thee, and set vp the horne of thine aduersaries.

²⁰ Beholde, O Lord, and consider to whome thou hast done thus: shall the women eate their fruite, and children of a spanne long? shall the Priest and the Prophet be slaine in the Sanctuarie of the Lord?

¹ Remember, O Lord, what is come vpon vs: consider, and behold our reproche.

¹⁸ They shall also girde them selues with sackecloth, and feare shall couer them, and shame shalbe vpon all faces, and baldnes vpon their heads.

²¹ And I will giue it into the handes of the strangers to be spoyled, and to the wicked of the earth to be robbed, and they shall pollute it. ²² My face will I turne also from them, and they shall pollute my secret place: for the destroyers shall enter into it, and defile it.

⁷ And he sayde vnto them, Defile the house, and fill the courtes with the slaine, then goe foorth: and they went out, and slewe them in the citie.

²¹ Speake vnto the house of Israel, Thus sayth the Lord God, Behold, I will pollute my Sanctuarie, euen the pride of your power, the pleasure of your eyes, and your hearts desire, and your sonnes, and your daughters whom ye haue left, shall fall by the sworde.

³⁰ For I will multiplie the fruite of the trees, and the increase of the fielde, that ye shall beare no more the reproch of famine among the heathen.

¹¹ And extolled himselfe against the prince of the hoste from whome the dayly sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his Sanctuarie was cast downe. ¹² And a time shall be giuen him ouer the dayly sacrifice for the iniquitie: and it shall cast downe the trueth to the ground, and thus shall it doe, and prosper. ¹³ Then I heard one of the Saints speaking, and one of the Saints spake vnto a certaine one, saying, Howe long shall endure the vision of the dayly sacrifice, and the iniquitie of the desolation to treade both the Sanctuarie and the armie vnder foote? ¹⁴ And he answered me, Vnto the euening and the morning, two thousand and three hundreth: then shall the Sanctuarie be clensed.

²⁶ And after threescore and two weekes, shall Messiah be slaine, and shall haue nothing,, and the people of the prince that shall come, shall destroy the citie and the Sanctuarie, and the end thereof shalbe with a flood: and vnto the end of the battell it shalbe destroyed by desolations. ²⁷ And he shall confirme the couenant with many for one weeke: and in the middes of the weeke he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the ouerspreading of the abominations, he shall make it desolate, euen vntill the consummation determined shalbe powred vpon the desolate.

³¹ And armes shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the Sanctuarie of strength, and shall take away the dayly sacrifice, and they shall set vp the abominable desolation.

¹⁰ Then she that is mine enemie, shall looke vpon it, and shame shall couer her, which said vnto me, Where is the Lord thy God? Mine eyes shall behold her: now shall she be troden downe as the myre of the streetes.

¹ Then was giuen me a reede, like vnto a rod, and the Angel stoode by, saying, Rise and mete the Temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein. ² But the court which is without the temple cast out, and mete it not: for it is giuen vnto the Gentiles, and the holy citie shall they treade vnder foote, two and fourtie moneths.
