¹⁸ I haue heard Ephraim lamenting thus, Thou hast corrected me, and I was chastised as an vntamed calfe: conuert thou me, and I shalbe conuerted: for thou art the Lord my God.

¹⁷ Beholde, blessed is the man whome God correcteth: therefore refuse not thou the chastising of the Almightie.

²⁷ He looketh vpon men, and if one say, I haue sinned, and peruerted righteousnesse, and it did not profite me, ²⁸ He will deliuer his soule from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.

⁹ Be ye not like an horse, or like a mule, which vnderstand not: whose mouthes thou doest binde with bit and bridle, least they come neere thee.

⁸ Deliuer me from all my transgressions, and make me not a rebuke vnto the foolish. ⁹ I should haue bene dumme, and not haue opened my mouth, because thou didest it.

³ Turne vs againe, O God, and cause thy face to shine that we may be saued.

¹² Blessed is the man, whom thou chastisest, O Lord, and teachest him in thy Lawe,

¹⁹ For he hath looked downe from the height of his Sanctuarie: out of the heauen did the Lord beholde the earth, ²⁰ That he might heare the mourning of the prisoner, and deliuer the children of death:

⁷⁵ I knowe, O Lord, that thy iudgements are right, and that thou hast afflicted me iustly.

¹¹ My sonne, refuse not the chastening of the Lord, neither be grieued with his correction.

³ Vnto the horse belongeth a whip, to the asse a bridle, and a rod to the fooles backe.

¹ A man that hardeneth his necke when he is rebuked, shall suddenly be destroyed and can not be cured.

⁵ Wherefore shoulde ye be smitten any more? for ye fall away more and more: the whole head is sicke, and the whole heart is heauie.

¹³ For the people turneth not vnto him that smiteth them, neither doe they seeke the Lord of hostes.

²⁰ Thy sonnes haue fainted, and lye at the head of all the streetes as a wilde bull in a nette, and are full of the wrath of the Lord, and rebuke of thy God.

⁷ Hee was oppressed and he was afflicted, yet did he not open his mouth: hee is brought as a sheepe to the slaughter, and as a sheepe before her shearer is dumme, so he openeth not his mouth.

¹⁵ For thus sayth he that is hie and excellent, he that inhabiteth the eternitie, whose Name is the Holy one, I dwell in the high and holy place: with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirite to reuiue the spirite of the humble, and to giue life to them that are of a contrite heart. ¹⁶ For I will not contende for euer, neither will I be alwayes wroth, for the spirite should fayle before me: and I haue made the breath. ¹⁷ For his wicked couetousnesse I am angry with him, and haue smitten him: I hid mee and was angry, yet he went away, and turned after the way of his owne heart. ¹⁸ I haue seene his wayes, and wil heale him: I wil leade him also, and restore comfort vnto him, and to those that lament him.

¹⁶ Doutles thou art our Father: though Abraham be ignorant of vs, and Israel knowe vs not, yet thou, O Lord, art our Father, and our redeemer: thy Name is for euer.

³⁰ I haue smitten your children in vaine, they receiued no correction: your owne sworde hath deuoured your Prophets like a destroying lyon.

²¹ A voice was heard vpon the hie places, weeping and supplications of the children of Israel: for they haue peruerted their way, and forgotten the Lord their God. ²² O yee disobedient children, returne and I wil heale your rebellions. Behold, we come vnto thee, for thou art the Lord our God.

²⁵ Wee lie downe in our confusion, and our shame couereth vs: for we haue sinned against the Lord our God, we and our fathers from our youth, euen vnto this day, and haue not obeyed the voyce of the Lord our God.

³ O Lord, are not thine eyes vpon the trueth? thou hast striken them, but they haue not sorowed: thou hast consumed them, but they haue refused to receiue correction: they haue made their faces harder then a stone, and haue refused to returne.

¹⁴ Heale me, O Lord, and I shall bee whole: saue me, and I shall bee saued: for thou art my prayse.

⁶ For the dayes shall come that the watchmen vpon the mount of Ephraim shall cry, Arise, and let vs go vp vnto Zion to the Lord our God.

⁹ They shall come weeping, and with mercie will I bring them againe: I will lead them by the riuers of water in a straight way, wherein they shall not stumble: for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my first borne.

⁴ In those daies, and at that time, sayeth the Lord, the children of Israel shall come, they, and the children of Iudah together, going, and weeping shall they goe, and seeke the Lord their God. ⁵ They shall aske the way to Zion, with their faces thitherward, saying, Come, and let vs cleaue to the Lord in a perpetuall couenant that shall not be forgotten.

²⁷ It is good for a man that he beare the yoke in his youth. ²⁸ He sitteth alone, and keepeth silence, because he hath borne it vpon him. ²⁹ He putteth his mouth in the dust, if there may be hope. ³⁰ Hee giueth his cheeke to him that smiteth him: he is filled full with reproches.

²¹ Turne thou vs vnto thee, O Lord, and we shalbe turned: renue our dayes as of olde.

¹⁶ For Israel is rebellious as an vnruly heyfer. Nowe the Lord will feede them as a lambe in a large place.

¹² Therefore wil I be vnto Ephraim as a moth, and to the house of Iudah as a rottennesse. ¹³ When Ephraim sawe his sickenes, and Iudah his wound, then went Ephraim vnto Asshur, and sent vnto King Iareb: yet coulde hee not heale you, nor cure you of your wound.

¹⁵ I will go, and returne to my place, til they acknowledge their fault, and seeke me: in their affliction they will seeke me diligently.

¹¹ And Ephraim is as an heifer vsed to delite in threshing: but I will passe by her faire necke: I will make Ephraim to ride: Iudah shall plowe, and Iaakob shall breake his cloddes.

⁸ Howe shall I giue thee vp, Ephraim? howe shall I deliuer thee, Israel? how shall I make thee, as Admah? howe shall I set thee, as Zeboim? mine heart is turned within mee: my repentings are rouled together. ⁹ I wil not execute ye fiercenesse of my wrath: I will not returne to destroy Ephraim: for I am God, and not man, the holy one in the middes of thee, and I will not enter into the citie.

⁴ Asshur shall not saue vs, neither wil we ride vpon horses, neither will we say any more to the worke of our handes, Ye are our gods: for in thee the fatherlesse findeth mercie. ⁵ I wil heale their rebellion: I wil loue them freely: for mine anger is turned away from him. ⁶ I will be as the dewe vnto Israel: he shall grow as the lilie and fasten his rootes, as the trees of Lebanon. ⁷ His branches shall spread, and his beautie shalbe as the oliue tree, and his smell as Lebanon. ⁸ They that dwel vnder his shadow, shall returne: they shall reuiue as the corne, and florish as the vine: the sent thereof shalbe as the wine of Lebanon.

² She heard not the voyce: she receiued not correction: she trusted not in the Lord: she drew not neere to her God.

⁶ And he shall turne the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with cursing.

¹⁷ For he shall goe before him in the spirite and power of Elias, to turne the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisedome of the iust men, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

²⁰ So hee arose and came to his father, and when hee was yet a great way off, his father sawe him, and had compassion, and ranne and fell on his necke, and kissed him.

²⁶ First vnto you hath God raysed vp his Sonne Iesus, and him hee hath sent to blesse you, in turning euery one of you from your iniquities.

¹³ For it is God which worketh in you, both the will and the deede, euen of his good pleasure.

⁵ And ye haue forgotten the consolation, which speaketh vnto you as vnto children, My sonne, despise not the chastening of the Lord, neither faint when thou art rebuked of him.

¹⁶ Erre not, my deare brethren. ¹⁷ Euery good giuing, and euery perfect gift is from aboue, and commeth downe from the Father of lights, with whome is no variablenes, neither shadow of turning. ¹⁸ Of his owne will begate hee vs with the woorde of trueth, that we shoulde be as the first fruites of his creatures.

¹⁹ As many as I loue, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore and amend.
