¹ The worde of the Lord that came vnto Ieremiah, concerning the dearth. ² Iudah hath mourned, and the gates thereof are desolate, they haue bene brought to heauinesse vnto the grounde, and the cry of Ierusalem goeth vp. ³ And their nobles haue sent their inferiours to the water, who came to the welles, and founde no water: they returned with their vessels empty: they were ashamed and confounded, and couered their heads. ⁴ For the grounde was destroyed, because there was no rayne in the earth: the plowmen were ashamed, and couered their heads. ⁵ Yea, the hinde also calued in the fielde, and forsooke it, because there was no grasse. ⁶ And the wilde asses did stande in the hygh places, and drew in their winde like dragons their eyes did faile, because there was no grasse. ⁷ O Lord, though our iniquities testifie against vs, deale with vs according to thy name: for our rebellions are many, we sinned against thee. ⁸ O the hope of Israel, the sauiour thereof in the time of trouble, why art thou as a strager in ye land, as one that passeth by to tary for a night? ⁹ Why art thou as a man astonied, and as a strong man that cannot helpe? yet thou, O Lord, art in the middes of vs, and thy Name is called vpon vs: forsake vs not. ¹⁰ Thus saith the Lord vnto this people, Thus haue they delited to wander: they haue not refrained their feete, therefore the Lord hath no delight in them: but he will now remember their iniquitie, and visite their sinnes. ¹¹ Then sayd the Lord vnto me, Thou shalt not pray to do this people good. ¹² When they fast, I will not heare their cry, and when they offer burnt offering, and an oblation, I will not accept them: but I will consume them by the sworde, and by the famine and by the pestilence. ¹³ Then answered I, Ah Lord God, beholde, the prophets say vnto them, Ye shall not see the sworde, neither shall famine come vpon you, but I wil giue you assured peace in this place. ¹⁴ Then the Lord said vnto me, The prophets prophecie lyes in my Name: I haue not sent them, neither did I command them, neither spake I vnto them, but they prophecie vnto you a false vision, and diuination, and vanitie, and deceitfulnes of their owne heart. ¹⁵ Therefore thus saith the Lord, Concerning the prophets that prophecie in my Name, whom I haue not sent, yet they say, Sworde and famine shall not be in this land, by sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed. ¹⁶ And the people to whome these prophets doe prophecie, shalbe cast out in the streetes of Ierusalem, because of the famine, and the sword, and there shall be none to bury them, both they, and their wiues, and their sonnes, and their daughters: for I wil powre their wickednes vpon them. ¹⁷ Therefore thou shalt say this worde vnto them, Let mine eyes drop downe teares night and day without ceasing: for the virgine daughter of my people is destroyed with a great destruction, and with a sore grieuous plague. ¹⁸ For if I go into the field, behold the slaine with the sworde: and if I enter into the citie, behold them that are sicke for hunger also: moreouer the Prophet also and the Priest go a wandring into a land that they know not. ¹⁹ Hast thou vtterly reiected Iudah, or hath thy soule abhorred Zion? why hast thou smitten vs, that we cannot be healed? Wee looked for peace, and there is no good, and for the time of health, and behold trouble. ²⁰ We acknowledge, O Lord, our wickednesse and the iniquitie of our fathers: for we haue sinned against thee. ²¹ Doe not abhorre vs: for thy Names sake cast not downe the throne of thy glory: remember and breake not thy couenant with vs. ²² Are there any among the vanities of the Gentiles, that can giue raine? or can the heauens giue showres? is it not thou, O Lord our God? therefore we will waite vpon thee: for thou hast made all these things.

²⁴ Then God heard their mone, and God remembred his couenant with Abraham, Izhak, and Iaakob.

⁴⁵ And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will bee their God. ⁴⁶ Then shall they knowe that I am ye Lord their God, that brought them out of the lande of Egypt, that I might dwell among them: I am the Lord their God.

¹⁰ Nowe therefore let mee alone, that my wrath may waxe hote against them, for I wil consume the: but I wil make of thee a mighty people.

¹³ Remember Abraham, Izhak, and Israel thy seruants, to whom thou swarest by thine owne selfe, and saydest vnto them, I wil multiply your seede, as the starres of the heauen, and all this land, that I haue spoken of, wil I giue vnto your seede, and they shall inherit it for euer.

³² Therefore now if thou pardon their sinne, thy mercy shall appeare: but if thou wilt not, I pray thee, rase me out of thy booke, which thou hast written. ³³ Then the Lord sayd to Moses, Whosoeuer hath sinned against me, I will put out of my booke. ³⁴ Go nowe therefore, bring the people vnto the place which I commanded thee: behold, mine Angel shall goe before thee, but yet in the day of my visitation I wil visite their sinne vpon them.

²³ And the Lord saide vnto Moses, Is the Lordes hand shortened? thou shalt see now whether my word shall come to passe vnto thee, or no.

¹⁵ That thou wilt kill this people as one man: so the heathen which haue heard the fame of thee, shall thus say, ¹⁶ Because the Lord was not able to bring this people into the lande, which he sware vnto them, therefore hath he slaine them in the wildernesse.

¹⁴ For the Lord thy God walketh in the mids of thy campe to deliuer thee, and to giue thee thine enemies before thee: therefore thine hoste shalbe holy, that he see no filthie thing in thee and turne away from thee.

¹² The Lord shall open vnto thee his good treasure, euen the heauen to giue rayne vnto thy kind in due season, and to blesse all the worke of thine handes: and thou shalt lende vnto many nations, but shalt not borow thy selfe.

²³ And thine heauen that is ouer thine head, shall be brasse, and the earth that is vnder thee, yron. ²⁴ The Lord shall giue thee for the rayne of thy land, dust and ashes: euen from heauen shall it come downe vpon thee, vntil thou be destroyed.

³⁶ The Lord shall bring thee and thy King (which thou shalt set ouer thee) vnto a nation, which neither thou nor thy fathers haue knowen, and there thou shalt serue other gods: euen wood and stone,

⁶⁴ And the Lord shall scatter thee among all people, from the one ende of the worlde vnto the other, and there thou shalt serue other gods, which thou hast not knowen nor thy fathers, euen wood and stone.

²³ (For all that land shall burne with brimstone and salt: it shall not be sowen, nor bring forth, nor any grasse shall growe therein, like as in the ouerthrowing of Sodom, and Gomorah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the Lord ouerthrewe in his wrath and in his anger)

¹⁹ The Lord then sawe it, and was angrie, for the prouocation of his sonnes and of his daughters.

²¹ They haue moued me to ielousie with that which is not God: they haue prouoked me to anger with their vanities: and I will moue them to ielousie with those which are no people: I wil prouoke them to anger with a foolish nation.

²⁷ Saue that I feared the furie of the enemie, least their aduersaries should waxe proude, and least they should say, Our hie hande and not the Lord hath done all this:

⁹ For the Canaanites, and all the inhabitants of the land shall heare of it, and shall compasse vs, and destroy our name out of the earth: and what wilt thou doe vnto thy mightie Name?

¹⁷ And when he had lift vp his eyes, he sawe a wayfairing man in the streetes of the citie: then this olde man sayde, Whither goest thou, and whence camest thou?

¹² And the men that dyed not, were smitten with the emerods: and the cry of the citie went vp to heauen.

¹⁰ Then Dauids heart smote him, after that he had numbred the people: and Dauid said vnto the Lord, I haue sinned exceedingly in that I haue done: therefore nowe, Lord, I beseech thee, take away the trespasse of thy seruant: for I haue done very foolishly.

³⁶ Then heare thou in heauen, and pardon the sinne of thy seruants and of thy people Israel (when thou hast taught the the good way wherein they may walke) and giue raine vpon the land that thou hast giuen to thy people to inherite.

¹ And Eliiah the Tishbite one of the inhabitats of Gilead sayde vnto Ahab, As the Lord God of Israel liueth, before whom I stand, there shall be neither dewe nor rayne these yeeres, but according to my worde.

⁷ And after a while the riuer dryed vp, because there fell no rayne vpon the earth.

¹⁴ For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The meale in the barrel shall not be wasted, neither shall the oyle in the cruse be diminished, vnto the time that the Lord send rayne vpon the earth.

⁵ And Ahab saide vnto Obadiah, Goe into the land, vnto all the fountaines of water, and vnto all the riuers, if so be that we may finde grasse to saue the horses and the mules aliue, lest we depriue the lande of the beastes. ⁶ And so they deuided the lande betweene them to walke thorowe it. Ahab went one way by him selfe, and Obadiah went another way by him selfe.

³⁹ And when all the people sawe it, they fell on their faces, and saide, The Lord is God, the Lord is God. ⁴⁰ And Elijah said vnto them, Take the prophets of Baal, let not a man of them escape. and they tooke them, and Eliiah brought them to the brooke Kishon, and slewe them there. ⁴¹ And Eliiah sayde vnto Ahab, Get thee vp, eate and drinke, for there is a sound of much rayne. ⁴² So Ahab went vp to eate and to drinke, and Eliiah went vp to the top of Carmel: and he crouched vnto the earth, and put his face betweene his knees, ⁴³ And sayde to his seruant, Goe vp now and looke towarde the way of the Sea. And he went vp, and looked, and sayde, There is nothing. Againe he sayd, Goe againe seuen times. ⁴⁴ And at the seuenth time he sayd, Behold, there ariseth a litle cloude out of the sea like a mans hand. Then he sayd, Vp, and say vnto Ahab, Make readie thy charet, and get thee downe, that the raine stay thee not. ⁴⁵ And in the meane while the heauen was blacke with cloudes and winde, and there was a great rayne. Then Ahab went vp and came to Izreel.

²⁵ And Michaiah saide, Behold, thou shalt see in that day, when thou shalt goe from chamber to chamber to hide thee.

¹⁹ Yet Iudah kept not the commandements of the Lord their God, but walked according to the facion of Israel, which they vsed. ²⁰ Therefore the Lord cast off all the seede of Israel, and afflicted them, and deliuered them into the handes of spoylers, vntill he had cast them out of his sight.

³¹ Hearken not vnto Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Asshur, Make appointment with me, and come out to me, that euery man may eate of his owne vine, and euery man of his owne figge tree, and drinke euery man of the water of his owne well,

¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God and despised his wordes, and misused his Prophets, vntill the wrath of the Lord arose against his people, and till there was no remedie.

⁶ And said, O my God, I am confounded and ashamed, to lift vp mine eyes vnto thee my God: for our iniquities are increased ouer our head, and our trespasse is growen vp vnto the heauen. ⁷ From the dayes of our fathers haue we bin in a great trespasse vnto this day, and for our iniquities haue we, our Kings, and our Priestes bene deliuered into the hand of the kings of the lands, vnto the sword, into captiuitie, into a spoyle, and into confusion of face, as appeareth this day.

¹⁵ O Lord God of Israel, thou art iust, for we haue bene reserued to escape, as appeareth this day: beholde, we are before thee in our trespasse: therfore we canot stand before thee because of it.

² (And they that were of the seede of Israel were separated from all the strangers) and they stoode and confessed their sinnes and the iniquities of their fathers.

³³ Surely thou art iust in all that is come vpon vs: for thou hast dealt truely, but we haue done wickedly. ³⁴ And our kings and our princes, our Priests and our fathers haue not done thy Lawe, nor regarded thy commandements nor thy protestations, wherewith thou hast protested among them.

¹² And Mordecai came againe to the Kings gate, but Haman hasted home mourning and his head couered.

²⁸ So that they haue caused the voyce of the poore to come vnto him, and he hath heard the cry of the afflicted.

²⁶ To cause it to raine on the earth where no man is, and in the wildernes where there is no man? ²⁷ To fulfil the wilde and waste place, and to cause the bud of the herbe to spring forth? ²⁸ Who is the father of the rayne? or who hath begotten the droppes of the dewe?

¹ Wilt thou hunt the pray for the lyon? or fill the appetite of the lyons whelpes, ² When they couch in their places, and remaine in the couert to lye in waite? ³ Who prepareth for the rauen his meate, when his birdes crie vnto God, wandering for lacke of meate? ⁴ Knowest thou the time when the wilde goates bring foorth yong? or doest thou marke when the hindes doe calue? ⁵ Canst thou nomber the moneths that they fulfill? or knowest thou the time when they bring foorth? ⁶ They bow them selues: they bruise their yong and cast out their sorowes.

⁹ The Lord also wil be a refuge for the poore, a refuge in due time, euen in affliction.

¹ Why standest thou farre off, O Lord, and hidest thee in due time, euen in affliction?

³ So all that hope in thee, shall not be ashamed: but let them be confounded, that transgresse without cause.

¹¹ For thy Names sake, O Lord, be merciful vnto mine iniquitie, for it is great.

²¹ Let mine vprightnes and equitie preserue me: for mine hope is in thee.

⁹ Hide not therefore thy face from mee, nor cast thy seruat away in displeasure: thou hast bene my succour: leaue me not, neither forsake mee, O God of my saluation.

¹⁴ Hope in the Lord: be strong, and he shall comfort thine heart, and trust in the Lord.

⁹ The voice of the Lord maketh the hindes to calue, and discouereth the forests: therefore in his Temple doth euery man speake of his glory.

⁵ Then I acknowledged my sinne vnto thee, neither hid I mine iniquitie: for I thought, I will confesse against my selfe my wickednesse vnto the Lord, and thou forgauest the punishment of my sinne. Selah.

³⁹ But the saluation of the righteous men shalbe of the Lord: he shalbe their strength in the time of trouble. ⁴⁰ For the Lord shall helpe them, and deliuer them: he shall deliuer them from the wicked, and shall saue them, because they trust in him.

¹⁰ Take thy plague away from mee: for I am consumed by the stroke of thine hand.

¹⁴ Let them be confounded and put to shame together, that seeke my soule to destroye it: let them be driuen backward and put to rebuke, that desire mine hurt.

²³ Vp, why sleepest thou, O Lord? awake, be not farre off for euer. ²⁴ Wherefore hidest thou thy face? and forgettest our miserie and our affliction? ²⁵ For our soule is beaten downe vnto the dust: our belly cleaueth vnto the ground. ²⁶ Rise vp for our succour, and redeeme vs for thy mercies sake.

¹ To him that excelleth upon Alamoth a song committed to the sonnes of Korah. God is our hope and strength, and helpe in troubles, ready to be found.

⁵ God is in the middes of it: therefore shall it not be moued: God shall helpe it very earely.

³ For I know mine iniquities, and my sinne is euer before me. ⁴ Against thee, against thee onely haue I sinned, and done euill in thy sight, that thou mayest be iust when thou speakest, and pure when thou iudgest.

¹⁸ Remember this, that the enemie hath reproched the Lord, and the foolish people hath blasphemed thy Name. ¹⁹ Giue not the soule of thy turtle doue vnto the beast, and forget not the Congregation of thy poore for euer. ²⁰ Consider thy couenant: for the darke places of the earth are full of the habitations of the cruell.

⁴ O Lord God of hostes, how long wilt thou be angrie against the prayer of thy people? ⁵ Thou hast fedde them with the bread of teares, and giuen them teares to drinke with great measure.

¹² Why hast thou then broken downe her hedges, so that all they, which passe by the way, haue plucked her? ¹³ The wilde bore out of the wood hath destroyed it, and the wilde beastes of the fielde haue eaten it vp.

³⁸ But thou hast reiected and abhorred, thou hast bene angry with thine Anoynted. ³⁹ Thou hast broken the couenant of thy seruant, and profaned his crowne, casting it on the ground. ⁴⁰ Thou hast broken downe all his walles: thou hast layd his fortresses in ruine.

¹⁵ He shall call vpon me, and I wil heare him: I will be with him in trouble: I will deliuer him, and glorifie him.

⁶ We haue sinned with our fathers: we haue committed iniquitie, and done wickedly. ⁷ Our fathers vnderstoode not thy wonders in Egypt, neither remembred they the multitude of thy mercies, but rebelled at the Sea, euen at the red sea. ⁸ Neuerthelesse he saued them for his Names sake, that he might make his power to be knowen. ⁹ And he rebuked the red Sea, and it was dryed vp, and he led them in the deepe, as in the wildernesse. ¹⁰ And he saued them from ye aduersaries hand, and deliuered them from ye hand of the enemie. ¹¹ And the waters couered their oppressours: not one of them was left. ¹² Then beleeued they his wordes, and sang prayse vnto him. ¹³ But incontinently they forgate his workes: they wayted not for his counsell, ¹⁴ But lusted with concupiscence in the wildernes, and tempted God in the desert. ¹⁵ Then he gaue them their desire: but he sent leannesse into their soule. ¹⁶ They enuied Moses also in the tentes, and Aaron the holy one of the Lord. ¹⁷ Therefore the earth opened and swallowed vp Dathan, and couered the companie of Abiram. ¹⁸ And the fire was kindled in their assembly: the flame burnt vp the wicked. ¹⁹ They made a calfe in Horeb, and worshipped the molten image. ²⁰ Thus they turned their glory into the similitude of a bullocke, that eateth grasse. ²¹ They forgate God their Sauiour, which had done great things in Egypt, ²² Wonderous woorkes in the lande of Ham, and fearefull things by the red Sea. ²³ Therefore he minded to destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stand in the breach before him to turne away his wrath, least he shoulde destroy them. ²⁴ Also they contemned that pleasant land, and beleeued not his worde, ²⁵ But murmured in their tentes, and hearkened not vnto the voice of the Lord. ²⁶ Therefore hee lifted vp his hande against them, to destroy them in the wildernesse, ²⁷ And to destroy their seede among the nations, and to scatter them throughout the countries. ²⁸ They ioyned themselues also vnto Baalpeor, and did eate the offrings of the dead. ²⁹ Thus they prouoked him vnto anger with their owne inuentions, and the plague brake in vpon them. ³⁰ But Phinehas stoode vp, and executed iudgement, and the plague was staied. ³¹ And it was imputed vnto him for righteousnes from generation to generation for euer. ³² They angred him also at the waters of Meribah, so that Moses was punished for their sakes, ³³ Because they vexed his spirite, so that hee spake vnaduisedly with his lippes. ³⁴ Neither destroied they the people, as the Lord had commanded them, ³⁵ But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their workes, ³⁶ And serued their idoles, which were their ruine. ³⁷ Yea, they offered their sonnes, and their daughters vnto deuils, ³⁸ And shed innocent blood, euen the blood of their sonnes, and of their daughters, whome they offred vnto the idoles of Canaan, and the lande was defiled with blood. ³⁹ Thus were they steined with their owne woorkes, and went a whoring with their owne inuentions. ⁴⁰ Therefore was the wrath of the Lord kindled against his people, and he abhorred his owne inheritance.

⁴⁵ And he remembred his couenant towarde them and repented according to the multitude of his mercies, ⁴⁶ And gaue them fauour in the sight of all them that lead them captiues. ⁴⁷ Saue vs, O Lord our God, and gather vs from among the heathen, that we may praise thine holy Name, and glorie in thy praise. ⁴⁸ Blessed be the Lord God of Israel for euer and euer, and let all the people say, So be it. Praise yee the Lord.

¹⁴ Let the iniquitie of his fathers bee had in remembrance with the Lord: and let not the sinne of his mother be done away. ¹⁵ But let them alway be before the Lord, that he may cut off their memorial from ye earth.

²⁹ Let mine aduersaries be clothed with shame, and let them couer themselues with their confusion, as with a cloke.

⁸ The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination to the Lord: but the prayer of the righteous is acceptable vnto him.

⁹ He that turneth away his eare from hearing the Law, euen his prayer shalbe abominable.

¹¹ What haue I to doe with the multitude of your sacrifices, sayth the Lord? I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and of the fat of fed beasts: and I desire not the blood of bullocks, nor of lambs, nor of goates. ¹² When ye come to appeare before me, who required this of your hands to tread in my courts? ¹³ Bring no more oblations, in vaine: incense is an abomination vnto me: I can not suffer your newe moones, nor Sabbaths, nor solemne dayes (it is iniquitie) nor solemne assemblies. ¹⁴ My soule hateth your newe moones and your appointed feastes: they are a burden vnto me: I am weary to beare them. ¹⁵ And when you shall stretch out your hands, I wil hide mine eyes from you: and though ye make many prayers, I wil not heare: for your hands are full of blood.

²⁶ Then shall her gates mourne and lament, and she, being desolate, shall sit vpon the ground.

⁷ Surely the vineyard of the Lord of hostes is the house of Israel, and the men of Iudah are his pleasant plant, and hee looked for iudgement, but beholde oppression: for righteousnesse, but beholde a crying.

¹⁵ The ancient and the honorable man, he is the head: and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the taile. ¹⁶ For the leaders of the people cause them to erre: and they that are led by them are deuoured.

¹⁰ Which say vnto the Seers, See not: and to the Prophets, Prophecie not vnto vs right things: but speake flattering things vnto vs: prophecie errours. ¹¹ Depart out of the way: go aside out of the path: cause the holy one of Israel to cease from vs.

¹⁸ Yet therefore will the Lord waite, that he may haue mercy vpon you, and therefore wil he be exalted, that hee may haue compassion vpon you: for the Lord is the God of iudgement. Blessed are all they that waite for him.

²³ Then shall hee giue raine vnto thy seede, when thou shalt sowe the ground, and bread of the increase of the earth, and it shalbe fat and as oyle: in that day shall thy cattell be fed in large pastures.

²² This is the worde that the Lord hath spoken against him, the virgine, the daughter of Zion, hath despised thee, and laughed thee to scorne: the daughter of Ierusalem, hath shaken her head at thee.

²⁹ Beholde, they are all vanitie: their worke is of nothing, their images are wind and confusion.

³ For I am the Lord thy God, the holy one of Israel, thy Sauiour: I gaue Egypt for thy ransome, Ethiopia, and Seba for thee.

¹⁸ I would haue comforted my selfe against sorowe, but mine heart is heauie in me. ¹⁹ Behold, the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people for feare of them of a farre countrey, Is not the Lord in Zion? is not her king in her? Why haue they prouoked mee to anger with their grauen images, and with the vanities of a strange god?

²¹ I am sore vexed for the hurt of ye daughter of my people: I am heauie, and astonishment hath taken me. ²² Is there no balme at Gilead? is there no Physition there? Why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recouered.

¹⁵ Therefore thus saith the Lord of hostes concerning the prophets, Beholde, I will feede them with wormewood, and make them drinke the water of gall: for from the prophets of Ierusalem is wickednesse gone forth into all the lande. ¹⁶ Thus sayth ye Lord of hosts, Heare not the wordes of the prophets that prophecie vnto you, and teach you vanitie: they speake the vision of their owne heart, and not out of the mouth of the Lord. ¹⁷ They say still vnto them that despise mee, The Lord hath sayde, Ye shall haue peace: and they say vnto euery one that walketh after the stubbernesse of his owne heart, No euill shall come vpon you.

Doe the prophets delite to prophecie lies, euen prophecying the deceit of their owne heart? ²⁷ Thinke they to cause my people to forget my Name by their dreames, which they tell euery man to his neyghbour, as their forefathers haue forgotten my Name for Baal? ²⁸ The prophet that hath a dreame, let him tell a dreame, and hee that hath my worde, let him speake my worde faithfully: what is the chaffe to the wheate, sayth the Lord? ²⁹ Is not my word euen like a fire, sayeth the Lord? and like an hammer, that breaketh the stone? ³⁰ Therefore beholde, I will come against the prophets, saieth the Lord, that steale my word euerie one from his neighbour. ³¹ Beholde, I will come against the prophets, saith the Lord, which haue sweete tongues, and say, He saith. ³² Beholde, I will come against them that prophecie false dreames, saith the Lord, and doe tell them, and cause my people to erre by their lies, and by their flatteries, and I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they bring no profite vnto this people, saith the Lord.

¹⁰ And I will sende the sworde, the famine, and the pestilence among them, till they bee consumed out of the land, that I gaue vnto them and to their fathers.

⁹ Therefore heare not your prophets nor your southsayers, nor your dreamers, nor your inchanters, nor your sorcerers, which say vnto you thus, Ye shall not serue the King of Babel. ¹⁰ For they prophecie a lie vnto you to cause you to goe farre from your lande, and that I should cast you out, and you should perish.

¹³ There is none to iudge thy cause, or to lay a plaister: there are no medicines, nor help for thee. ¹⁴ All thy louers haue forgotten thee: they seeke thee not: for I haue striken thee with the wound of an enemie, and with a sharpe chastisement for ye multitude of thine iniquities, because thy sinnes were increased. ¹⁵ Why cryest thou for thine affliction? thy sorowe is incurable, for the multitude of thine iniquities: because thy sinnes were increased, I haue done these things vnto thee.

³⁴ And they shall teach no more euery man his neighbour and euery man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they shall all know me from the least of them vnto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for I wil forgiue their iniquitie, and will remember their sinnes no more.

²¹ Did not the Lord remember the incense, that yee burnt in the cities of Iudah, and in the streetes of Ierusalem, both you, and your fathers, your Kinges, and your princes, and the people of the land, and hath he not considered it? ²² So that the Lord could no longer forbeare, because of the wickednes of your inuentions, and because of the abominations, which ye haue committed: therefore is your lande desolate and an astonishment, and a curse and without inhabitant, as appeareth this day. ²³ Because ye haue burnt incense and because ye haue sinned against the Lord, and haue not obeyed the voyce of the Lord, nor walked in his Lawe, nor in his statutes, nor in his testimonies, therefore this plague is come vpon you, as appeareth this day.

⁷ Al that found them, haue deuoured them, and their enemies saide, We offende not, because they haue sinned against the Lord, the habitation of iustice, euen the Lord the hope of their fathers.

¹⁶ Hee giueth by his voyce the multitude of waters in the heauen, and he causeth the cloudes to ascend from the endes of the earth: he turneth lightnings to raine, and bringeth forth the winde out of his treasures.

⁶ Now in the fourth moneth, the ninth day of the moneth, the famine was sore in ye citie, so that there was no more bread for ye people of the land. ⁷ Then the citie was broken vp and all the men of warre fled, and went out of the citie by night, by the way of the gate betweene the two walles, which was by the kings garden: (now the Caldeans were by the citie round about) and they went by the way of the wildernes.

¹⁰ The enemie hath stretched out his hande vpon al her pleasant things: for she hath seene the heathen enter into her Sanctuarie, whom thou diddest commande, that they shoulde not enter into thy Church.

¹⁵ The Lord hath troden vnder foote all my valiant men in the middes of me: he hath called an assembly against me to destroy my yong men: the Lord hath troden the wine presse vpon the virgine the daughter of Iudah. ¹⁶ For these things I weepe: mine eye, euen mine eye casteth out water, because the comforter that should refresh my soule, is farre from me: my children are desolate, because the enemie preuailed.

²⁰ Behold, O Lord, howe I am troubled: my bowels swell: mine heart is turned within me, for I am ful of heauinesse: the sword spoyleth abroad, as death doeth at home.

⁶ For hee hath destroyed his Tabernacle, as a garden, hee hath destroyed his Congregation: the Lord hath caused the feastes and Sabbathes to bee forgotten in Zion, and hath despised in the indignation of his wrath the King and the Priest. ⁷ The Lord hath forsaken his altar: he hath abhorred his Sanctuarie: he hath giue into the hand of the enemie the walles of her palaces: they haue made a noyse in the House of the Lord, as in the day of solemnitie.

⁹ Her gates are sunke to the grounde: he hath destroyed and broken her barres: her King and her princes are among the Gentiles: the Lawe is no more, neither can her Prophets receiue any vision from the Lord.

¹³ What thing shall I take to witnesse for thee? what thing shall I compare to thee, O daughter Ierusalem? what shall I liken to thee, that I may comfort thee, O virgine daughter Zion? for thy breach is great like ye sea: who can heale thee? ¹⁴ Thy Prophets haue looked out vayne, and foolish things for thee, and they haue not discouered thine iniquitie, to turne away thy captiuitie, but haue looked out for thee false prophesies, and causes of banishment.

¹⁸ Their heart cryed vnto the Lord, O wall of the daughter Zion, let teares runne downe like a riuer, day and night: take thee no rest, neither let the apple of thine eye cease.

²⁰ Beholde, O Lord, and consider to whome thou hast done thus: shall the women eate their fruite, and children of a spanne long? shall the Priest and the Prophet be slaine in the Sanctuarie of the Lord?

²⁵ The Lord is good vnto them, that trust in him, and to the soule that seeketh him. ²⁶ It is good both to trust, and to waite for the saluation of the Lord.

¹⁰ And therefore, because they haue deceiued my people, saying, Peace, and there was no peace: and one buylt vp a wall, and behold, the others daubed it with vntempered morter, ¹¹ Say vnto them which daube it with vntempered morter, that it shall fall: for there shall come a great showre, and I wil sende haylestones, which shall cause it to fall, and a stormie winde shall breake it. ¹² Lo, when the wall is fallen, shall it not bee sayd vnto you, Where is the daubing wherewith ye haue daubed it? ¹³ Therefore thus sayth the Lord God, I will cause a stormie winde to breake foorth in my wrath, and a great showre shall bee in mine anger, and hailestones in mine indignation to consume it. ¹⁴ So I wil destroy the wall that ye haue daubed with vntempered morter, and bring it downe to the ground, so that the fundation thereof shalbe discouered, and it shall fal, and ye shalbe consumed in the middes thereof, and ye shall know, that I am the Lord. ¹⁵ Thus will I accomplish my wrath vpon the wall, and vpon them that haue daubed it with vntempered morter, and will say vnto you, The wall is no more, neither the daubers thereof, ¹⁶ To wit, the Prophets of Israel, which prophesie vpon Ierusalem, and see visions of peace for it, and there is no peace, sayth the Lord God.

²² Because with your lyes yee haue made the heart of the righteous sadde, whome I haue not made sad, and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not returne from his wicked way, by promising him life, ²³ Therefore ye shall see no more vanitie, nor diuine diuinatios: for I wil deliuer my people out of your hand, and ye shall know that I am ye Lord.
