¹² Can ye figge tree, my brethren, bring forth oliues, either a vine figges? so can no fountaine make both salt water and sweete.

²³ And whe they came to Marah, they could not drinke of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of the place was called Marah. ²⁴ Then the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drinke? ²⁵ And he cried vnto the Lord, and the Lord shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were sweete: there he made them an ordinance and a law, and there he proued them,

¹⁹ And the men of the citie saide vnto Elisha, Beholde, we pray thee: the situation of this citie is pleasant, as thou, my lorde, seest, but the water is naught, and the ground baren. ²⁰ Then he saide, Bring me a newe cruse, and put salt therein. And they brought it to him. ²¹ And he went vnto the spring of the waters, and cast there the salt, and said, Thus saith the Lord, I haue healed this water: death shall no more come thereof, neither barennesse to the ground. ²² So the waters were healed vntill this day, according to the worde of Elisha which hee had spoken.

² And hee hedged it, and gathered out the stones of it, and he planted it with the best plants, and hee builte a towre in the middes thereof, and made a wine presse therein: then hee looked that it should bring foorth grapes: but it brought foorth wilde grapes. ³ Now therefore, O inhabitants of Ierusalem and men of Iudah, iudge, I pray you, betweene me, and my vineyarde. ⁴ What coulde I haue done any more to my vineyard that I haue not done vnto it? why haue I looked that it should bring foorth grapes, and it bringeth foorth wilde grapes?

²¹ Yet I had planted thee, a noble vine, whose plants were all natural: howe then art thou turned vnto me into the plants of a strange vine?

⁸ Then saide he vnto me, These waters issue out towarde the East countrey, and runne downe into the plaine, and shall goe into one sea: they shall runne into another sea, and the waters shalbe wholesome. ⁹ And euery thing that liueth, which moueth, wheresoeuer the riuers shall come, shall liue, and there shalbe a very great multitude of fish, because these waters shall come thither: for they shall be wholesome, and euery thing shall liue whither the riuer commeth. ¹⁰ And then the fishers shall stand vpon it, and from En-gedi euen vnto En-eglaim, they shall spread out their nettes: for their fish shalbe according to their kindes, as the fishe of the maine sea, exceeding many. ¹¹ But the myrie places thereof, and the marises thereof shall not be wholesome: they shalbe made salt pittes.

¹⁶ Ye shall know them by their fruites. Doe men gather grapes of thornes? or figges of thistles? ¹⁷ So euery good tree bringeth foorth good fruite, and a corrupt tree bringeth forth euill fruite. ¹⁸ A good tree can not bring forth euil fruite: neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruite. ¹⁹ Euery tree that bringeth not forth good fruite, is hewen downe, and cast into the fire. ²⁰ Therefore by their fruites ye shall knowe them.

³³ Either make the tree good, and his fruite good: or els make the tree euill, and his fruite euil: for the tree is knowen by the fruite.

⁴³ For it is not a good tree that bringeth foorth euill fruite: neither an euill tree, that bringeth foorth good fruite. ⁴⁴ For euery tree is knowen by his owne fruite: for neither of thornes gather men figges, nor of bushes gather they grapes.

¹⁶ For if the first fruites be holy, so is the whole lumpe: and if the roote be holy, so are the branches. ¹⁷ And though some of the branches be broken off, and thou being a wilde Oliue tree, wast graft in for them, and made partaker of the roote, and fatnesse of the Oliue tree. ¹⁸ Boast not thy selfe against the branches: and if thou boast thy selfe, thou bearest not the roote, but the roote thee.
