¹⁰ Their watchmen are all blinde: they haue no knowledge: they are all dumme dogs: they can not barke: they lie and sleepe and delite in sleeping.

⁴ Giue no sleepe to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids. ⁵ Deliuer thy selfe as a doe from the hande of the hunter, and as a birde from the hande of the fouler. ⁶ Goe to the pismire, O sluggarde: beholde her waies, and be wise. ⁷ For shee hauing no guide, gouernour, nor ruler, ⁸ Prepareth her meat in the sommer, and gathereth her foode in haruest. ⁹ Howe long wilt thou sleepe, O sluggarde? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleepe? ¹⁰ Yet a litle sleepe, a litle slumber, a litle folding of the hands to sleepe.

³⁰ I passed by the fielde of the slouthfull, and by the vineyarde of the man destitute of vnderstanding. ³¹ And lo, it was al growen ouer with thornes, and nettles had couered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken downe. ³² Then I behelde, and I considered it well: I looked vpon it, and receiued instruction. ³³ Yet a litle sleepe, a litle slumber, a litle folding of the handes to sleepe. ³⁴ So thy pouertie commeth as one that traueileth by the way, and thy necessitie like an armed man.

¹⁰ For the Lord hath couered you with a spirite of slumber, and hath shut vp your eyes: the Prophets, and your chiefe Seers hath he couered.

⁸ The voyce of thy watchmen shalbe heard: they shall lift vp their voyce, and shoute together: for they shall see eye to eye, when the Lord shall bring againe Zion.

¹ Crye aloude, spare not: lift vp thy voyce like a trumpet, and shewe my people their transgression, and to the house of Iaakob, their sinnes.

¹³ For from the least of them, euen vnto the greatest of them, euery one is giuen vnto couetousnesse, and from the Prophet euen vnto the Priest, they all deale falsely. ¹⁴ They haue healed also ye hurt of the daughter of my people with sweete woordes, saying, Peace, peace, when there is no peace.

¹³ Then answered I, Ah Lord God, beholde, the prophets say vnto them, Ye shall not see the sworde, neither shall famine come vpon you, but I wil giue you assured peace in this place. ¹⁴ Then the Lord said vnto me, The prophets prophecie lyes in my Name: I haue not sent them, neither did I command them, neither spake I vnto them, but they prophecie vnto you a false vision, and diuination, and vanitie, and deceitfulnes of their owne heart.

¹³ And I haue seene foolishnesse in the prophets of Samaria, that prophecied in Baal, and caused my people Israel to erre. ¹⁴ I haue seene also in the prophets of Ierusalem filthines: they commit adulterie and walke in lies: they strengthen also the hands of the wicked that none can returne from his wickednesse: they are all vnto me as Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorah.

¹⁵ Then I came to them that were led away captiues to Tel-abib, that dwelt by the riuer Chebar, and I sate where they sate, and remained there astonished among them seuen dayes. ¹⁶ And at the ende of seuen dayes, the worde of the Lord came againe vnto me, saying, ¹⁷ Sonne of man, I haue made thee a watchman vnto the house of Israel: therefore heare the worde at my mouth, and giue them warning from me. ¹⁸ When I shall say vnto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die, and thou giuest not him warning, nor speakest to admonish the wicked of his wicked way, that he may liue, the same wicked man shall die in his iniquitie: but his blood will I require at thine hande.

²⁶ And I will make thy tongue cleaue to the roofe of thy mouth, that thou shalt be dume, and shalt not be to them as a man that rebuketh: for they are a rebellious house. ²⁷ But when I shall haue spoken vnto thee, I will open thy mouth, and thou shalt say vnto them, Thus saith the Lord God, He that heareth, let him heare, and he that leaueth off, let him leaue: for they are a rebellious house.

¹⁶ To wit, the Prophets of Israel, which prophesie vpon Ierusalem, and see visions of peace for it, and there is no peace, sayth the Lord God.

⁶ But if the watchman see the sworde come, and blowe not the trumpet, and the people be not warned: if the sworde come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away for his iniquitie, but his blood will I require at the watchmans hande.

⁶ My people are destroyed for lacke of knowledge: because thou hast refused knowledge, I will also refuse thee, that thou shalt be no Priest to me: and seeing thou hast forgotten the Lawe of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

⁷ The daies of visitation are come: the daies of recompence are come: Israel shall knowe it: the Prophet is a foole: the spiritual man is mad, for the multitude of thine iniquitie: therefore the hatred is great. ⁸ The watchman of Ephraim shoulde bee with my God: but the Prophet is the snare of a fouler in all his waies, and hatred in the House of his God.

² Arise, and goe to Nineueh, that great citie, and crye against it: for their wickednesse is come vp before mee. ³ But Ionah rose vp to flee into Tarshish from the presence of the Lord, and went downe to Iapho: and he founde a ship going to Tarshish: so he payed the fare thereof, and went downe into it, that he might go with them vnto Tarshish, from the presence of the Lord. ⁴ But the Lord sent out a great winde into the sea, and there was a mightie tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken. ⁵ Then the mariners were afraide, and cryed euery man vnto his God, and cast the wares that were in the ship, into the sea to lighten it of the: but Ionah was gone downe into the sides of the ship, and he lay downe, and was fast a sleepe. ⁶ So the shipmaster came to him, and saide vnto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? Arise, call vpon thy God, if so be that God wil thinke vpon vs, that we perish not.

¹⁸ Thy shepheardes doe sleepe, O King of Asshur: thy strong men lie downe: thy people is scattered vpon the mountaines, and no man gathereth them.

¹⁴ Let them alone, they be the blinde leaders of the blinde: and if the blinde leade ye blinde, both shall fall into the ditche.

¹⁶ Wo be vnto you blinde guides, which say, Whosoeuer sweareth by the Temple, it is nothing: but whosoeuer sweareth by the golde of the Temple, he offendeth. ¹⁷ Ye fooles and blinde, whether is greater, the golde, or the Temple that sanctifieth the golde? ¹⁸ And whosoeuer sweareth by the altar, it is nothing: but whosoeuer sweareth by the offering that is vpon it, offendeth. ¹⁹ Ye fooles and blinde, whether is greater, the offering, or the altar which sanctifieth the offering? ²⁰ Whosoeuer therefore sweareth by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon. ²¹ And whosoeuer sweareth by the Temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein. ²² And he that sweareth by heauen, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon. ²³ Wo be to you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites: for ye tithe mynt, and annyse, and cummyn, and leaue the weightier matters of the law, as iudgement, and mercy and fidelitie. These ought ye to haue done, and not to haue left the other. ²⁴ Ye blinde guides, which straine out a gnat, and swallowe a camell. ²⁵ Wo be to you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites: for ye make cleane the vtter side of the cup, and of the platter: but within they are ful of briberie and excesse. ²⁶ Thou blinde Pharise, cleanse first the inside of the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be cleane also.

³⁴ For the Sonne of man is as a man going into a strange countrey, and leaueth his house, and giueth authoritie to his seruaunts, and to euery man his woorke, and commandeth the porter to watch. ³⁵ Watch ye therefore, (for ye know not whe ye master of the house will come, at eue, or at midnight, at the cocke crowing, or in the dawning,) ³⁶ Least if he come suddenly, he should finde you sleeping. ³⁷ And those things that I say vnto you, I say vnto all men, Watch.

³⁹ And he spake a parable vnto them, Can the blinde leade the blinde? shall they not both fall into the ditche? ⁴⁰ The disciple is not aboue his master: but whosoeuer will be a perfect disciple, shall bee as his master.
