¹ Thus sayeth the Lord, Where is that bill of your mothers diuorcement, whome I haue cast off? or who is the creditour to whome I solde you? Beholde, for your iniquities are yee solde, and because of your transgressions is your mother forsaken.

⁷ Likewise if a man sell his daughter to be a seruant, she shall not goe out as the men seruantes doe.

³⁹ If thy brother also that dwelleth by thee, be impouerished, and be sold vnto thee, thou shalt not compel him to serue as a bond seruant,

¹ When a man taketh a wife, and marrieth her, if so be shee finde no fauour in his eyes, because hee hath espyed some filthinesse in her, then let him write her a bill of diuorcement, and put it in her hand, and send her out of his house. ² And when she is departed out of his house, and gone her way, and marrie with an other man, ³ And if the latter husband hate her, and write her a letter of diuorcement, and put it in her hand, and send her out of his house, or if the latter man die which tooke her to wife: ⁴ Then her first husband, which sent her away, may not take her againe to be his wife, after that she is defiled: for that is abomination in the sight of the Lord, and thou shalt not cause the land to sinne, which the Lord thy God doeth giue thee to inherite.

³⁰ How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousande to flight, except their strong God had sold the, and the Lord had shut them vp?

²⁵ (But there was none like Ahab, who did fell him selfe, to worke wickednesse in the sight of the Lord: whom Iezebel his wife prouoked.

¹ And one of the wiues of the sonnes of the Prophets cryed vnto Elisha, saying, Thy seruant mine husband is dead, and thou knowest, that thy seruant did feare the Lord: and the creditour is come to take my two sonnes to bee his bondmen.

¹⁷ And they made their sonnes and their daughters passe thorowe the fire, and vsed witchcraft and inchantments, yea, solde them selues to doe euill in the sight of the Lord, to anger him.

⁵ And nowe our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, and our sonnes as their sonnes: and lo, we bring into subiection our sonnes and our daughters, as seruants, and there be of our daughters nowe in subiection, and there is no power in our handes: for other men haue our landes and our vineyardes.

⁴ For we are solde, I, and my people, to be destroyed, to be slayne and to perish: but if we were solde for seruants, and for handmaides, I woulde haue helde my tongue: although the aduersarie could not recompense the Kings losse.

¹² Thou sellest thy people without gaine, and doest not increase their price.

³ For thus sayeth the Lord, Yee were solde for naught: therefore shall ye be redeemed without money.

¹ Beholde, the Lordes hande is not shortened, that it can not saue: neither is his eare heauie, that it cannot heare. ² But your iniquities haue separated betweene you and your God, and your sinnes haue hidde his face from you, that he will not heare.

¹ They say, If a man put away his wife, and she goe from him, and become another mans, shall hee returne againe vnto her? shall not this land be polluted? but thou hast played the harlot with many louers: yet turne againe to mee, sayeth the Lord.

⁸ When I sawe, howe that by all occasions rebellious Israel had plaied the harlot, I cast her away, and gaue her a bill of diuorcement: yet her rebellious sister Iudah was not afraied, but shee went also, and plaied the harlot.

¹⁸ Thy wayes and thine inuentions haue procured thee these things, such is thy wickednesse: therefore it shall be bitter, therefore it shall perce vnto thine heart.

² Plead with your mother: plead with her: for she is not my wife, neither am I her husband: but let her take away her fornications out of her sight, and her adulteries from betweene her breasts. ³ Lest I strippe her naked, and set her as in the day that shee was borne, and make her as a wildernes, and leaue her like a drie land, and slaie her for thirst. ⁴ And I wil haue no pitie vpon her children: for they be the children of fornications.

²⁵ And because he had nothing to pay, his Lord commanded him to be solde, and his wife, and his children, and all that he had, and the dette to be payed.

⁴ And they sayd, Moses suffered to write a bill of diuorcement, and to put her away. ⁵ Then Iesus answered, and sayd vnto them, For the hardnesse of your heart he wrote this precept vnto you. ⁶ But at the beginning of the creation God made them male and female: ⁷ For this cause shall man leaue his father and mother, and cleaue vnto his wife. ⁸ And they twaine shalbe one flesh: so that they are no more twaine, but one flesh. ⁹ Therefore, what God hath coupled together, let not man separate. ¹⁰ And in the house his disciples asked him againe of that matter. ¹¹ And he sayd vnto them, Whosoeuer shall put away his wife and marrie another, committeth adulterie against her. ¹² And if a woman put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adulterie.
