⁹ Ye looked for much, and lo, it came to litle: and when ye brought it home, I did blowe vpon it. And why, sayth the Lord of hostes? Because of mine House that is waste, and ye runne euery man vnto his owne house.

¹⁰ And the Lord said vnto Ioshua, Get thee vp: wherefore lyest thou thus vpon thy face? ¹¹ Israel hath sinned, and they haue transgressed my couenant, which I commanded them: for they haue euen taken of the excommunicate thing, and haue also stollen, and dissembled also, and haue put it euen with their owne stuffe. ¹² Therefore ye children of Israel cannot stand before their enemies, but haue turned their backes before their enemies, because they be execrable: neither will I bee with you any more, except ye destroy the excommunicate from among you. ¹³ Vp therefore, sanctifie the people, and say, Sanctifie your selues against to morowe: for thus saith the Lord God of Israel, There is an execrable thing among you, O Israel, therefore ye cannot stand against your enemies, vntill ye haue put the execrable thing from among you. ¹⁴ In the morning therefore ye shall come according to your tribes, and the tribe which the Lord taketh, shall come according to the families: and the familie which the Lord shall take, shall come by the housholds: and the houshold which the Lord shall take, shall come man by man. ¹⁵ And he that is taken with the excommunicate thing, shall be burnt with fire, hee, and all that he hath, because he hath transgressed the couenant of the Lord, and because he hath wrought folly in Israel.

¹ Then there was a famine in the dayes of Dauid, three yeeres together: and Dauid asked counsell of the Lord, and the Lord answered, It is for Saul, and for his bloodie house, because hee slewe the Gibeonites.

¹⁶ The chanels also of the sea appeared, euen the foundations of the worlde were discouered by the rebuking of the Lord, and at the blast of the breath of his nostrels.

⁷ Beholde, I will sende a blast vpon him, and he shall heare a noyse, and returne to his owne lande: and I will cause him to fall by the sworde in his owne lande.

² I will say vnto God, Condemne mee not: shew me, wherefore thou contendest with mee.

⁵ Then I considered the daies of olde, and the yeeres of ancient time. ⁶ I called to remembrance my song in the night: I communed with mine owne heart, and my spirit searched diligently. ⁷ Will the Lord absent him selfe for euer? and will he shewe no more fauour? ⁸ Is his mercie cleane gone for euer? doeth his promise faile for euermore? ⁹ Hath God forgotten to be mercifull? hath he shut vp his teder mercies in displeasure? Selah. ¹⁰ And I sayde, This is my death: yet I remembred the yeeres of the right hand of the most High.

¹⁰ Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy saluation, and hast not remembred the God of thy strength, therefore shalt thou set pleasant plantes, and shalt graffe strange vine branches: ¹¹ In the day shalt thou make thy plant to growe, and in the morning shalt thou make thy seede to florish: but the haruest shall be gone in the day of possession, and there shalbe desperate sorrowe.

⁷ The grasse withereth, the floure fadeth, because the Spirite of the Lord bloweth vpon it: surely the people is grasse.

⁴ Is it time for your selues to dwell in your sieled houses, and this House lie waste?

⁶ Ye haue sowen much, and bring in litle: ye eate, but ye haue not ynough: ye drinke, but ye are not filled: ye clothe you, but ye be not warme: and he that earneth wages, putteth the wages into a broken bagge.

¹⁶ And nowe, I pray you, consider in your mindes: from this day, and afore, euen afore a stone was layde vpon a stone in the Temple of the Lord: ¹⁷ Before these things were, when one came to an heape of twentie measures, there were but ten: when one came to the wine presse for to drawe out fiftie vessels out of the presse, there were but twentie.

² If yee will not heare it, nor consider it in your heart, to giue glory vnto my Name, sayth the Lord of hostes, I will euen sende a curse vpon you, and will curse your blessings: yea, I haue cursed them alreadie, because yee doe not consider it in your heart.

⁸ Will a man spoyle his gods? yet haue ye spoyled me: but ye say, Wherein haue we spoyled thee? In tithes, and offerings. ⁹ Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye haue spoyled me, euen this whole nation. ¹⁰ Bring ye all the tythes into the storehouse that there may be meate in mine House, and proue me nowe herewith, sayeth the Lord of hostes, if I will not open the windowes of heauen vnto you, and powre you out a blessing without measure. ¹¹ And I will rebuke the deuourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruite of your grounde, neither shall your vine be baren in the fielde, sayeth the Lord of hostes.

³⁷ He that loueth father or mother more then me, is not worthie of me. And he that loueth sonne, or daughter more then mee, is not worthie of me. ³⁸ And hee that taketh not his crosse, and followeth after me, is not worthie of me.

³⁰ For this cause many are weake, and sicke among you, and many sleepe. ³¹ For if we would iudge our selues, we should not be iudged. ³² But when we are iudged, we are chastened of the Lord, because we should not be condemned with the world.

⁴ Neuertheles, I haue somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first loue.

¹⁹ As many as I loue, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore and amend.
