⁸ Thou Iudah, thy brethre shall praise thee: thine hande shalbe in the necke of thine enemies: thy fathers sonnes shall bowe downe vnto thee.

²⁹ Let people bee thy seruantes, and nations bowe vnto thee: be Lord ouer thy brethren, and let thy mothers children honour thee. cursed be he that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth thee.

³⁵ Moreouer shee conceiued againe and bare a sonne, saying, Nowe will I prayse the Lord: therefore shee called his name Iudah, and left bearing.

⁷ Beholde nowe, wee were binding sheues in the middes of the field: and loe, my shefe arose and also stoode vpright, and behold, your sheues compassed rounde about, and did reuerence to my shefe. ⁸ Then his brethren saide to him, What, shalt thou reigne ouer vs, and rule vs? or shalt thou haue altogether dominion ouer vs? And they hated him so much the more, for his dreames, and for his wordes. ⁹ Againe hee dreamed an other dreame, and tolde it his brethren, and saide, Behold, I haue had one dreame more, and beholde, the Sunne and the Moone and eleuen starres did reuerence to me. ¹⁰ Then he tolde it vnto his father and to his brethren, and his father rebuked him, and saide vnto him, What is this dreame, which thou hast dreamed? shall I, and thy mother, and thy brethren come in deede and fall on the ground before thee?

⁶ Now Ioseph was gouerner of the land, who solde to all the people of the lande: then Iosephs brethren came, and bowed their face to the groud before him.

¹⁸ Then Iudah drewe neere vnto him, and sayde, O my Lord, let thy seruant nowe speake a worde in my lordes eares, and let not thy wrath be kindled against thy seruant: for thou art euen as Pharaoh. ¹⁹ My Lord asked his seruants, saying, Haue ye a father, or a brother? ²⁰ And we answered my Lord, We haue a father that is olde, and a young childe, which he begate in his age: and his brother is dead, and he alone is left of his mother, and his father loueth him. ²¹ Now thou saidest vnto thy seruants, Bring him vnto me, that I may set mine eye vpon him. ²² And we answered my lord, The childe can not depart from his father: for if he leaue his father, his father would die. ²³ Then saydest thou vnto thy seruants, Except your yonger brother come downe with you, looke in my face no more. ²⁴ So when we came vnto thy seruant our father, and shewed him what my lord had sayd, ²⁵ And our father sayde vnto vs, Goe againe, bye vs a litle foode, ²⁶ Then we answered, We can not go downe: but if our yongest brother go with vs, then will we go downe: for we may not see the mans face, except our yongest brother be with vs. ²⁷ Then thy seruant my father sayde vnto vs, Ye knowe that my wife bare me two sonnes, ²⁸ And the one went out from me, and I said, Of a suretie he is torne in pieces, and I sawe him not since. ²⁹ Nowe yee take this also away from me: if death take him, then yee shall bring my graye head in sorowe to the graue. ³⁰ Nowe therefore, when I come to thy seruant my father, and the childe be not with vs (seeing that his life dependeth on the childes life) ³¹ Then when hee shall see that the childe is not come, he will die: so shall thy seruants bring the graye head of thy seruant our father with sorowe to the graue. ³² Doubtlesse thy seruant became suertie for the childe to my father, and said, If I bring him not vnto thee againe, then I will beare the blame vnto my father for euer. ³³ Nowe therefore, I pray thee, let me thy seruant bide for the childe, as a seruant to my Lord, and let the childe go vp with his brethren. ³⁴ For how can I go vp to my father, if the childe be not with me, vnlesse I woulde see the euil that shall come on my father?

¹² Also the sonnes of Iudah: Er, and Onan, and Shelah, and Pharez, and Zerah: (but Er and Onan died in ye land of Canaan) And the sonnes of Pharez were Hezron and Hamul.

²⁷ The nomber of them, I say, of the tribe of Iudah was three score and fourteene thousande, and sixe hundreth.

¹⁴ In the first place went the standerd of the hoste of the children of Iudah, according to their armies: and Nahshon the sonne of Amminabad was ouer his band.

²² These are the families of Iudah, after their nombers, seuentie and sixe thousande and fiue hundreth.

⁷ And thus he blessed Iudah, and said, Heare, O Lord, the voyce of Iudah, and bring him vnto his people: his hands shalbe sufficient for him, if thou helpe him against his enemies.

²⁴ And when they had brought out those Kings vnto Ioshua, Ioshua called for all the men of Israel, and sayd vnto the chiefe of the men of warre, which went with him, Come neere, set your feete vpon the necks of these Kings: and they came neere and set their feete vpon their necks.

¹ After that Ioshua was dead, the children of Israel asked ye Lord, saying, Who shall goe vp for vs against the Canaanites, to fight first against them? ² And the Lord said, Iudah shall goe vp: behold, I haue giuen the land into his hande.

¹⁸ And the children of Israel arose, and went vp to the house of God, and asked of God, saying, Which of vs shall goe vp first to fight against the children of Beniamin? And the Lord said, Iudah shalbe first.

³ So all the Elders of Israel came to the King to Hebron: and King Dauid made a couenant with them in Hebron before the Lord: and they anoynted Dauid King ouer Israel.

⁴¹ And thou hast giuen me the neckes of mine enemies, that I might destroy them that hate me.

⁹ And Ioab deliuered the nomber and summe of the people vnto the King: and there were in Israel eight hundreth thousande strong men that drewe swordes, and the men of Iudah were fiue hundreth thousand men.

¹ And King Salomon was King ouer all Israel. ² And these were his princes, Azariah the sonne of Zadok the Priest, ³ Elihoreph and Ahiah the sonnes of Shisha scribes, Iehoshaphat the sonne of Ahilud, the recorder, ⁴ And Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada was ouer the hoste, and Zadok and Abiathar Priests, ⁵ And Azariah the sonne of Nathan was ouer the officers, and Zabud the sonne of Nathan Priest was the Kings friend, ⁶ And Ahishar was ouer the houshold: and Adoniram the sonne of Abda was ouer the tribute. ⁷ And Salomon had twelue officers ouer all Israel, which prouided vitailes for the King and his housholde: eche man had a moneth in the yeere to prouide vitailes. ⁸ And these are their names: the sonne of Hur in mount Ephraim: ⁹ The sonne of Dekar in Makaz, and in Shaalbim and Beth-shemesh, and Elon and Beth-hanan: ¹⁰ The sonne of Hesed in Aruboth, to whom perteined Sochoh, and all the land of Hepher: ¹¹ The sonne of Abinadab in all the region of Dor, which had Taphath the daughter of Salomon to wife. ¹² Baana the sonne of Ahilud in Taanach, and Megiddo, and in all Beth-shean, which is by Zartanah beneath Izreel, from Beth-shean to Abelmeholah, eue til beyond ouer against Iokmeam: ¹³ The sonne of Geber in Ramoth Gilead, and his were the townes of Iair, the sonne of Manasseh, which are in Gilead, and vnder him was the region of Argob, which is in Bashan: threescore great cities with walles and barres of brasse. ¹⁴ Ahinadab the sonne of Iddo had to Mahanaim: ¹⁵ Ahimaaz in Naphtali, and he tooke Basmath the daughter of Salomon to wife: ¹⁶ Baanah the sonne of Hushai in Asher and in Aloth: ¹⁷ Iehoshaphat the sonne of Paruah in Issachar. ¹⁸ Shimei the sonne of Elah in Beniamin: ¹⁹ Geber the sonne of Vri in the countrey of Gilead, the land of Sihon King of the Amorites, and of Og King of Bashan, and was officer alone in the land. ²⁰ Iudah and Israel were many, as the sand of the sea in number, eating, drinking, and making merry. ²¹ And Salomon reigned ouer all kingdomes, from the Riuer vnto the lande of the Philistims, and vnto the border of Egypt, and they brought presents, and serued Salomon all the dayes of his life. ²² And Salomons vitailes for one day were thirtie measures of fine floure, and threescore measures of meale: ²³ Ten fat oxen, and twentie oxen of the pastures, and an hundreth sheepe, beside hartes, and buckes, and bugles, and fat foule. ²⁴ For he ruled in all the region on the other side of the Riuer, from Tiphsah euen vnto Azzah, ouer all the Kings on the other side the Riuer: and he had peace round about him on euery side. ²⁵ And Iudah and Israel dwelt without feare, euery man vnder his vine, and vnder his fig tree, from Dan, euen to Beer-sheba, all the dayes of Salomon. ²⁶ And Salomon had fourtie thousande stalles of horses for his charets, and twelue thousand horsemen. ²⁷ And these officers prouided vitaile for king Salomon, and for all that came to King Salomons table, euery man his moneth, and they suffred to lacke nothing. ²⁸ Barley also and strawe for the horses and mules brought they vnto the place where the officers were, euery man according to his charge. ²⁹ And God gaue Salomon wisdome and vnderstanding exceeding much, and a large heart, euen as the sand that is on the sea shore, ³⁰ And Salomons wisdome excelled the wisedome of all the children of the East and all the wisedome of Egypt. ³¹ For he was wiser then any man: yea, then were Ethan the Ezrahite, the Heman, then Chalcol, then Darda the sonnes of Mahol: and he was famous throughout all nations round about. ³² And Salomon spake three thousand prouerbs: and his songs were a thousand and fiue. ³³ And he spake of trees, from the cedar tree that is in Lebanon, euen vnto the hyssope that springeth out of the wall: he spake also of beasts, and of foules, and of creeping thinges, and of fishes. ³⁴ And there came of all people to heare the wisedome of Salomon, from all Kings of the earth, which had heard of his wisedome.

¹ These also are they that came to Dauid to Ziklag, while he was yet kept close, because of Saul the sonne of Kish: and they were among the valiant and helpers of the battel. ² They were weaponed with bowes, and could vse the right and the left hand with stones and with arrowes and with bowes, and were of Sauls brethren, euen of Beniamin. ³ The chiefe were Ahiezer, and Ioash the sonnes of Shemaah a Gibeathite, and Ieziel, and Pelet the sonnes of Asinaueth, Berachah and Iehu the Antothite, ⁴ And Ishmaiah the Gibeonite, a valiant man among thirtie, and aboue the thirtie, and Ieremiah, and Iehaziel, and Iohanan, and Ioshabad the Gederathite, ⁵ Eluzai, and Ierimoth, and Bealiah, and Shemariah, and Shephatiah the Haruphite, ⁶ Elkanah, and Ishiah, and Azariel, and Ioezer, Iashobeam of Hakorehim, ⁷ And Ioelah, and Zebadiah, the sonnes of Ieroham of Gedor, ⁸ And of the Gadites there separated them selues some vnto Dauid into the holde of the wildernesse, valiant men of warre, and men of armes, and apt for battel, which coulde handle speare and shielde, and their faces were like the faces of lyons, and were like the roes in the mountaines in swiftnesse, ⁹ Ezer the chiefe, Obadiah the second, Eliab the third, ¹⁰ Mishmanah the fourth, Ieremiah the fift, ¹¹ Attai the sixt, Eliel the seuenth, ¹² Iohanan the eight, Elzabad the ninth, ¹³ Ieremiah the tenth, Macbannai the eleuenth. ¹⁴ These were the sonnes of Gad, captaines of the hoste: one of the least could resist an hundreth, and the greatest a thousand. ¹⁵ These are they that went ouer Iorden in the first moneth when he had filled ouer all his bankes, and put to flight all them of the valley, toward the East and the West. ¹⁶ And there came of the children of Beniamin, and Iudah to the hold vnto Dauid, ¹⁷ And Dauid went out to meete them, and answered and sayde vnto them, If yee be come peaceably vnto me to helpe me, mine heart shall be knit vnto you, but if you come to betray me to mine aduersaries, seeing there is no wickednes in mine handes, the God of our fathers beholde it, and rebuke it. ¹⁸ And the spirit came vpon Amasai, which was the chiefe of thirtie, and he said, Thine are we, Dauid, and with thee, O sonne of Ishai. Peace, peace be vnto thee, and peace be vnto thine helpers: for thy God helpeth thee. Then Dauid receiued them, and made them captaines of the garison. ¹⁹ And of Manasseh some fell to Dauid, when he came with the Philistims against Saul to battell, but they helped them not: for the Princes of the Philistims by aduisement sent him away, saying, He will fall to his master Saul for our heads. ²⁰ As he went to Ziklag, there fell to him of Manasseh, Adnah, and Iozabad, and Iediael, and Michael, and Iozabad, and Elihu, and Ziltai, heads of the thousands that were of Manasseh. ²¹ And they helped Dauid against that bad: for they were all valiant men and were captaines in the hoste. ²² For at that time day by day there came to Dauid to helpe him, vntill it was a great hoste, like the hoste of God. ²³ And these are the nombers of the captaines that were armed to battell, and came to Dauid to Hebron to turne the kingdome of Saul to him, according to the worde of the Lord. ²⁴ The children of Iudah that bare shield and speare, were sixe thousand and eight hundreth armed to the warre. ²⁵ Of the children of Simeon valiant men of warre, seuen thousand and an hundreth. ²⁶ Of the children of Leui foure thousande and sixe hundreth. ²⁷ And Iehoiada was the chiefe of them of Aaron: and with him three thousande and seuen hundreth. ²⁸ And Zadok a yong man very valiant, and of his fathers housholde came two and twentie captaines. ²⁹ And of the children of Beniamin the brethren of Saul three thousande: for a great part of them vnto that time kept the warde of the house of Saul. ³⁰ And of the children of Ephraim twentie thousande, and eight hundreth valiant men and famous men in the housholde of their fathers. ³¹ And of the halfe tribe of Manasseh eighteene thousand, which were appointed by name to come and make Dauid King. ³² And of the children of Issachar which were men that had vnderstanding of the times, to knowe what Israel ought to doe: the heades of them were two hundreth, and all their brethren were at their commandement. ³³ Of Zebulun that went out to battel, expert in warre, and in all instruments of warre, fiftie thousande which could set the battell in aray: they were not of a double heart. ³⁴ And of Naphtali a thousand captaines, and with them with shielde and speare seuen and thirtie thousande. ³⁵ And of Dan expert in battell, eyght and twentie thousande, and sixe hundreth. ³⁶ And of Asher that went out to the battell and were trained in the warres, fourtie thousand. ³⁷ And of the other side of Iorden of the Reubenites, and of the Gadites, and of the halfe tribe of Manasseh with all instruments of warre to fight with, an hundreth and twentie thousand. ³⁸ All these men of warre that coulde leade an armie, came with vpright heart to Hebron to make Dauid King ouer all Israel: and all the rest of Israel was of one accorde to make Dauid King: ³⁹ And there they were with Dauid three dayes, eating and drinking: for their brethren had prepared for them. ⁴⁰ Moreouer they that were neere them vntill Issachar, and Zebulun, and Naphtali brought bread vpon asses, and on camels, and on mules, and on oxen, euen meate, floure, figges, and reisins, and wine and oyle, and beeues and sheepe abundantly: for there was ioy in Israel.

¹² And in all cities he put shieldes and speares, and made them exceeding strong: so Iudah and Beniamin were his. ¹³ And the Priests and the Leuites that were in all Israel, resorted vnto him out of all their coastes. ¹⁴ For the Leuites left their suburbes and their possession, and came to Iudah and to Ierusalem: for Ieroboam and his sonnes had cast them out from ministring in the Priestes office vnto the Lord. ¹⁵ And he ordeyned him Priests for the hie places, and for the deuils and for the calues which he had made. ¹⁶ And after the Leuites there came to Ierusalem of all the tribes of Israel, such as set their heartes to seeke the Lord God of Israel, to offer vnto the Lord God of their fathers. ¹⁷ So they strengthened the kingdome of Iudah, and made Rehoboam the sonne of Salomon mightie, three yeere long: for three yeere they walked in in the way of Dauid and Salomon.

⁸ And Asa had an armie of Iudah that bare shieldes and speares, three hundreth thousande, and of Beniamin that bare shieldes and drewe bowes, two hundreth and foure score thousande: all these were valiant men.

⁹ And he gathered all Iudah and Beniamin, and the strangers with them out of Ephraim, and Manasseh, and out of Simeon: for there fell many to him out of Israel, when they sawe that the Lord his God was with him.

² And he put garisons in all the strong cities of Iudah, and set bandes in the lande of Iudah and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.

¹⁴ And these are the nombers of them after the house of their fathers, In Iudah were captaines of thousands, Adnah the captaine, and with him of valiant men three hundreth thousande. ¹⁵ And at his hande Iehohanan a captaine, and with him two hundreth and fourescore thousande. ¹⁶ And at his hande Amasiah the sonne of Zichri, which willingly offered him selfe vnto the Lord, and with him two hundreth thousand valiant men.

¹¹ Neuerthelesse diuers of Asher, and Manasseh, and of Zebulun submitted themselues, and came to Ierusalem.

⁴⁰ And thou hast giuen me the neckes of mine enemies, that I might destroy them that hate me. ⁴¹ They cryed but there was none to saue them, euen vnto the Lord, but hee answered them not. ⁴² Then I did beate them small as the dust before the winde: I did treade them flat as the clay in the streetes. ⁴³ Thou hast deliuered me from the contentions of the people: thou hast made me the head of the heathen: a people, whom I haue not knowen, shall serue me.

⁶⁸ But chose the tribe of Iudah, and mount Zion which he loued. ⁶⁹ And he built his Sanctuarie as an high palace, like the earth, which he stablished for euer. ⁷⁰ He chose Dauid also his seruant, and tooke him from the shepefolds. ⁷¹ Euen from behinde the ewes with yong brought he him to feede his people in Iaakob, and his inheritance in Israel.

⁷ The increase of his gouernement and peace shall haue none end: he shall sit vpon the throne of Dauid, and vpon his kingdome, to order it, and to stablish it with iudgement and with iustice, from hencefoorth, euen for euer: the zeale of the Lord of hostes will performe this.

²⁹ Whiles they see vanitie vnto thee, and prophecied a lie vnto thee to bring thee vpon the neckes of the wicked that are slaine, whose day is come when their iniquitie shall haue an ende.

¹⁰ That at the Name of Iesus shoulde euery knee bowe, both of things in heauen, and things in earth, and things vnder the earth, ¹¹ And that euery tongue shoulde confesse that Iesus Christ is the Lord, vnto the glory of God the Father.

¹⁴ For it is euident, that our Lord sprung out of Iuda, concerning the which tribe Moses spake nothing, touching the Priesthood.

¹³ And from hencefoorth tarieth, till his enemies be made his footestoole.

⁵ And one of the Elders saide vnto me, Weepe not: beholde, that Lion which is of the tribe of Iuda, that roote of Dauid, hath obteined to open the Booke, and to loose the seuen seales thereof.

¹⁵ And the seuenth Angell blewe the trumpet, and there were great voyces in heauen, saying, The kingdomes of this worlde are our Lordes, and his Christes, and he shall reigne for euermore.
