⁹ Then Peter sayde vnto her, Why haue ye agreed together, to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? beholde, the feete of them which haue buried thine husband, are at the doore, and shall carie thee out.

⁹ But the Lord God called to the man, and said vnto him, Where art thou? ¹⁰ Who saide, I heard thy voyce in the garden, and was afraide: because I was naked, therefore I hid my selfe. ¹¹ And he saide, Who tolde thee, that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eate? ¹² Then the man saide, The woman which thou gauest to be with me, she gaue me of the tree, and I did eate. ¹³ And the Lord God saide to the woman, Why hast thou done this? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eate.

² Wherefore the people contended with Moses, and sayde, Giue vs water that we may drinke. And Moses sayde vnto them, Why contende yee with me? wherefore do ye tempt the Lord?

⁷ And he called the name of the place, Massah and Meribah, because of the contention of the children of Israel, and because they had tempted the Lord, saying, Is the Lord among vs, or no?

²² For all those men which haue seene my glory, and my miracles which I did in Egypt, and in the wildernes, and haue tempted me this ten times, and haue not obeyed my voyce,

⁶ If thy brother, the sonne of thy mother, or thine owne sonne, or thy daughter, or the wife, that lyeth in thy bosome, or thy friend, which is as thine owne soule, intice thee secretly, saying, Let vs goe and serue other gods, (which thou hast not knowen, thou, I say, nor thy fathers) ⁷ Any of the gods of the people which are round about you, neere vnto thee or farre off from thee, from the one ende of the earth vnto ye other: ⁸ Thou shalt not cosent vnto him, nor heare him, neither shall thine eye pitie him, nor shewe mercie, nor keepe him secret:

³² (Nowe Elisha sate in his house, and the Elders sate with him.) And the King sent a man before him: but before the messenger came to him, he saide to the Elders, See ye not howe this murtherers sonne hath sent to take away mine head? take heede when the messenger commeth, and shut the doore and handle him roughly at the doore: is not the sounde of his masters feete behinde him?

¹⁸ For when thou seest a thiefe, thou runnest with him, and thou art partaker with the adulterers.

¹⁸ And tempted God in their heartes in requiring meate for their lust. ¹⁹ They spake against God also, saying, Can God prepare a table in the wildernesse? ²⁰ Behold, he smote the rocke, that the water gushed out, and the streames ouerflowed: can hee giue bread also? or prepare flesh for his people?

⁴⁰ How oft did they prouoke him in the wildernes? and grieue him in the desert? ⁴¹ Yea, they returned, and tempted God, and limited the Holie one of Israel.

⁵⁶ Yet they tempted, and prouoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies,

⁸ Harden not your heart, as in Meribah, and as in the day of Massah in the wildernesse. ⁹ Where your fathers tempted me, proued me, though they had seene my worke. ¹⁰ Fourtie yeeres haue I contended with this generation, and said, They are a people that erre in heart, for they haue not knowen my wayes. ¹¹ Wherefore I sware in my wrath, saying, Surely they shall not enter into my rest.

²¹ Though hande ioyne in hande, the wicked shall not be vnpunished: but the seede of the righteous shall escape.

⁵ All that are proude in heart, are an abomination to the Lord: though hand ioyne in hand, he shall not be vnpunished.

³ To make good for the euil of their hands, the prince asked, and the iudge iudgeth for a reward: therefore the great man he speaketh out the corruption of his soule: so they wrapt it vp.

⁷ Iesus saide vnto him, It is written againe, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

² And hee called him, and saide vnto him, Howe is it that I heare this of thee? Giue an accounts of thy stewardship: for thou maiest be no longer steward.

³ Then saide Peter, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart, that thou shouldest lye vnto the holy Ghost, and keepe away part of the price of this possession? ⁴ Whiles it remained, appertained it not vnto thee? and after it was solde, was it not in thine owne power? howe is it that thou hast conceiued this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lyed vnto men, but vnto God.

⁶ And the yong men rose vp, and tooke him vp, and caried him out, and buried him.

¹⁰ Nowe therefore, why tempt ye God, to lay a yoke on the disciples neckes, which neither our fathers, nor we were able to beare?

²⁰ And he saide, The Iewes haue conspired to desire thee, that thou wouldest bring foorth Paul to morow into the Council, as though they would inquire somewhat of him more perfectly: ²¹ But let them not perswade thee: for there lie in waite for him of them, more then fourtie men, which haue bound themselues with a curse, that they will neither eate nor drinke, till they haue killed him: and nowe are they readie, and waite for thy promise. ²² The chiefe captaine then let the yong man depart, after hee had charged him to vtter it to no man, that he had shewed him these things.

¹⁹ Now we know that whatsoeuer ye Lawe saieth, it saieth it to them which are vnder ye Law, that euery mouth may bee stopped, and all the world be subiect to the iudgement of God.

¹⁵ And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, Howe beautifull are the feete of them which bring glad tidings of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

⁹ Neither let vs tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted him, and were destroyed of serpents.
