³³ But hee that is maried, careth for the things of the world, how he may please his wife.

⁴ And on a day, when Elkanah sacrificed, he gaue to Peninnah his wife and to all her sonnes and daughters portions, ⁵ But vnto Hannah he gaue a worthy portion: for he loued Hannah, and the Lord had made her barren. ⁶ And her aduersarie vexed her sore, forasmuch as she vpbraided her, because the Lord had made her barren. ⁷ (And so did he yeere by yeere) and as oft as she went vp to the house of the Lord, thus she vexed her, that she wept and did not eate. ⁸ Then sayd Elkanah her husband to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thine heart troubled? am not I better to thee then ten sonnes?

¹ Nowe there was a great crie of the people, and of their wiues against their brethren the Iewes. ² For there were that said, We, our sonnes and our daughters are many, therefore we take vp corne, that we may eate and liue. ³ And there were that saide, We must gage our landes, and our vineyardes, and our houses, and take vp corne for the famine. ⁴ There were also that said, We haue borowed money for the Kings tribute vpon our landes and our vineyardes. ⁵ And nowe our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, and our sonnes as their sonnes: and lo, we bring into subiection our sonnes and our daughters, as seruants, and there be of our daughters nowe in subiection, and there is no power in our handes: for other men haue our landes and our vineyardes.

²² And he spake vnto his disciples, Therefore I say vnto you, Take no thought for your life, what yee shall eate: neither for your body, what yee shall put on.

³ Let the husband giue vnto the wife due beneuolence, and likewise also the wife vnto the husband.

²⁵ Husbands, loue your wiues, euen as Christ loued the Church, and gaue himselfe for it, ²⁶ That hee might sanctifie it, and clense it by the washing of water through the worde, ²⁷ That hee might make it vnto him selfe a glorious Church, not hauing spot or wrinkle, or any such thing: but that it shoulde bee holy and without blame. ²⁸ So ought men to loue their wiues, as their owne bodies: he that loueth his wife, loueth him selfe. ²⁹ For no man euer yet hated his owne flesh, but nourisheth and cherisheth it, euen as the Lord doeth the Church. ³⁰ For we are members of his bodie, of his flesh, and of his bones. ³¹ For this cause shall a man leaue father and mother, and shall cleaue to his wife, and they twaine shalbe one flesh. ³² This is a great secrete, but I speake concerning Christ, and concerning the Church. ³³ Therefore euery one of you, doe ye so: let euery one loue his wife, euen as himselfe, and let the wife see that shee feare her husband.

¹⁹ Husbands, loue your wiues, and be not bitter vnto them.

¹¹ And that ye studie to be quiet, and to meddle with your owne busines, and to worke with your owne handes, as we commanded you, ¹² That yee may behaue your selues honestly towarde them that are without, and that nothing be lacking vnto you.

⁸ If there bee any that prouideth not for his owne, and namely for them of his housholde, hee denieth the faith, and is worse then an infidell.

⁷ Likewise ye husbands, dwel with them as men of knowledge, giuing honour vnto the woman, as vnto the weaker vessell, euen as they which are heires together of the grace of life, that your prayers be not interrupted.
