²⁴ Every one therefore which heareth these words of mine, and doeth them, shall be likened unto a wise man, which built his house upon the rock:

²⁸ And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

¹⁰ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all they that do thereafter: his praise endureth for ever.

⁹⁹ I have more understanding than all my teachers; for thy testimonies are my meditation.

¹³⁰ The opening of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.

⁸ The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.

⁸ The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit.

³ Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ⁴ Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. ⁵ Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. ⁶ Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. ⁷ Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. ⁸ Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. ⁹ Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called sons of God. ¹⁰ Blessed are they that have been persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ¹¹ Blessed are ye when [men] shall reproach you, and persecute you, and say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. ¹² Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

²⁸ but I say unto you, that every one that looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. ²⁹ And if thy right eye causeth thee to stumble, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not thy whole body be cast into hell. ³⁰ And if thy right hand causeth thee to stumble, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not thy whole body go into hell. ³¹ It was said also, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement: ³² but I say unto you, that every one that putteth away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, maketh her an adulteress: and whosoever shall marry her when she is put away committeth adultery.

¹⁴ For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. ¹⁵ But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

¹⁹ Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust doth consume, and where thieves break through and steal: ²⁰ but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth consume, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: ²¹ for where thy treasure is, there will thy heart be also.

⁷ Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: ⁸ for every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

¹³ Enter ye in by the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many be they that enter in thereby. ¹⁴ For narrow is the gate, and straitened the way, that leadeth unto life, and few be they that find it.

⁵⁰ For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, he is my brother, and sister, and mother.

⁴⁷ Every one that cometh unto me, and heareth my words, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: ⁴⁸ he is like a man building a house, who digged and went deep, and laid a foundation upon the rock: and when a flood arose, the stream brake against that house, and could not shake it: because it had been well builded. ⁴⁹ But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that built a house upon the earth without a foundation; against which the stream brake, and straightway it fell in; and the ruin of that house was great.

²⁸ But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

¹⁷ If ye know these things, blessed are ye if ye do them.

¹⁵ If ye love me, ye will keep my commandments.

²² Judas (not Iscariot) saith unto him, Lord, what is come to pass that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? ²³ Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my word: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. ²⁴ He that loveth me not keepeth not my words: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s who sent me.

¹⁰ If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.

¹⁴ Ye are my friends, if ye do the things which I command you.

⁶ who will render to every man according to his works: ⁷ to them that by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honour and incorruption, eternal life: ⁸ but unto them that are factious, and obey not the truth, but obey unrighteousness, [shall be] wrath and indignation, ⁹ tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that worketh evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Greek;

¹⁰ According to the grace of God which was given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder I laid a foundation; and another buildeth thereon. But let each man take heed how he buildeth thereon. ¹¹ For other foundation can no man lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

⁶ For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth anything, nor uncircumcision; but faith working through love. ⁷ Ye were running well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?

⁷ Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. ⁸ For he that soweth unto his own flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth unto the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap eternal life.

²¹ Wherefore putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. ²² But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deluding your own selves. ²³ For if any one is a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a mirror: ²⁴ for he beholdeth himself, and goeth away, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. ²⁵ But he that looketh into the perfect law, the [law] of liberty, and [so] continueth, being not a hearer that forgetteth, but a doer that worketh, this man shall be blessed in his doing. ²⁶ If any man thinketh himself to be religious, while he bridleth not his tongue but deceiveth his heart, this man’s religion is vain. ²⁷ Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, [and] to keep himself unspotted from the world.

¹⁷ Even so faith, if it have not works, is dead in itself. ¹⁸ Yea, a man will say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith apart from [thy] works, and I by my works will shew thee [my] faith. ¹⁹ Thou believest that God is one; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and shudder. ²⁰ But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith apart from works is barren? ²¹ Was not Abraham our father justified by works, in that he offered up Isaac his son upon the altar? ²² Thou seest that faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect; ²³ and the scripture was fulfilled which saith, And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned unto him for righteousness; and he was called the friend of God. ²⁴ Ye see that by works a man is justified, and not only by faith. ²⁵ And in like manner was not also Rahab the harlot justified by works, in that she received the messengers, and sent them out another way? ²⁶ For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, even so faith apart from works is dead.

¹³ Who is wise and understanding among you? let him shew by his good life his works in meekness of wisdom. ¹⁴ But if ye have bitter jealousy and faction in your heart, glory not and lie not against the truth. ¹⁵ This wisdom is not [a wisdom] that cometh down from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. ¹⁶ For where jealousy and faction are, there is confusion and every vile deed. ¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without variance, without hypocrisy. ¹⁸ And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace for them that make peace.

³ And hereby know we that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

²² and whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do the things that are pleasing in his sight. ²³ And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, even as he gave us commandment. ²⁴ And he that keepeth his commandments abideth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he gave us.

³ For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. ⁴ For whatsoever is begotten of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that hath overcome the world, [even] our faith. ⁵ And who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

¹⁴ Blessed are they that wash their robes, that they may have the right [to come] to the tree of life, and may enter in by the gates into the city. ¹⁵ Without are the dogs, and the sorcerers, and the fornicators, and the murderers, and the idolaters, and every one that loveth and maketh a lie.
