²² And behold, a Canaanitish woman came out from those borders, and cried, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.

²⁵ But straightway a woman, whose little daughter had an unclean spirit, having heard of him, came and fell down at his feet. ²⁶ Now the woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by race. And she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter.

¹⁷ And one of the multitude answered him, Master, I brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit; ¹⁸ and wheresoever it taketh him, it dasheth him down: and he foameth, and grindeth his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast it out; and they were not able. ¹⁹ And he answereth them and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I bear with you? bring him unto me. ²⁰ And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him grievously; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming. ²¹ And he asked his father, How long time is it since this hath come unto him? And he said, From a child. ²² And oft-times it hath cast him both into the fire and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do anything, have compassion on us, and help us.

¹³ and they lifted up their voices, saying, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.

¹³ But the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote his breast, saying, God, be merciful to me a sinner.

³⁸ And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me. ³⁹ And they that went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried out the more a great deal, Thou son of David, have mercy on me.

⁴¹ Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, What, doth the Christ come out of Galilee? ⁴² Hath not the scripture said that the Christ cometh of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?
