⁵⁵ I called upon thy name, O LORD, out of the lowest dungeon.

¹¹ Wherefore the LORD brought upon them the captains of the host of the king of Assyria, which took Manasseh in chains, and bound him with fetters, and carried him to Babylon. ¹² And when he was in distress, he besought the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers.

⁵ The cords of Sheol were round about me: the snares of death came on me. ⁶ In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry before him came into his ears.

¹ For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. ² He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay; and he set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.

¹³ But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O LORD, in an acceptable time: O God, in the multitude of thy mercy, answer me in the truth of thy salvation. ¹⁴ Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink: let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters. ¹⁵ Let not the waterflood overwhelm me, neither let the deep swallow me up; and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me. ¹⁶ Answer me, O LORD; for thy lovingkindness is good: according to the multitude of thy tender mercies turn thou unto me. ¹⁷ And hide not thy face from thy servant; for I am in distress; answer me speedily. ¹⁸ Draw nigh unto my soul, and redeem it: ransom me because of mine enemies.

³ The cords of death compassed me, and the pains of Sheol gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow. ⁴ Then called I upon the name of the LORD; O LORD, I beseech thee, deliver my soul.

¹ A Song of Ascents. Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O LORD. ² Lord, hear my voice: let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.

³ When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, thou knewest my path. In the way wherein I walk have they hidden a snare for me. ⁴ Look on [my] right hand, and see; for there is no man that knoweth me: refuge hath failed me; no man careth for my soul. ⁵ I cried unto thee, O LORD; I said, Thou art my refuge, my portion in the land of the living. ⁶ Attend unto my cry; for I am brought very low: deliver me from my persecutors; for they are stronger than I. ⁷ Bring my soul out of prison, that I may give thanks unto thy name: the righteous shall compass me about; for thou shalt deal bountifully with me.

⁶ Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchijah the king’s son, that was in the court of the guard: and they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire: and Jeremiah sank in the mire.

² And he said, I called by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he answered me; out of the belly of hell cried I, [and] thou heardest my voice. ³ For thou didst cast me into the depth, in the heart of the seas, and the flood was round about me; all thy waves and thy billows passed over me. ⁴ And I said, am cast out from before thine eyes; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.

²⁴ who, having received such a charge, cast them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks. ²⁵ But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns unto God, and the prisoners were listening to them; ²⁶ and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison-house were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened; and every one’s bands were loosed. ²⁷ And the jailor being roused out of sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, drew his sword, and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped. ²⁸ But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.
