¹² The vine is withered, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field are withered: for joy is withered away from the sons of men.

²³ And they came unto the valley of Eshcol, and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bare it upon a staff between two; [they brought] also of the pomegranates, and of the figs.

⁷ Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than [they have] when their corn and their wine are increased.

¹² The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.

³ As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste.

¹³ Thy shoots are an orchard of pomegranates, with precious fruits; henna with spikenard plants,

⁷ This thy stature is like to a palm tree, and thy breasts to clusters [of grapes]. ⁸ I said, I will climb up into the palm tree, I will take hold of the branches thereof: let thy breasts be as clusters of the vine, and the smell of thy breath like apples; ⁹ And thy mouth like the best wine, that goeth down smoothly for my beloved, gliding through the lips of those that are asleep.

³ Thou hast multiplied the nation, thou hast increased their joy: they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.

¹⁰ And gladness is taken away, and joy out of the fruitful field; and in the vineyards there shall be no singing, neither joyful noise: no treader shall tread out wine in the presses; I have made the [vintage] shout to cease.

¹¹ There is a crying in the streets because of the wine; all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone.

³ The sound of a cry from Horonaim, spoiling and great destruction!

³³ And gladness and joy is taken away, from the fruitful field and from the land of Moab; and I have caused wine to cease from the winepresses: none shall tread with shouting; the shouting shall be no shouting.

¹ Rejoice not, O Israel, for joy, like the peoples; for thou hast gone a whoring from thy God, thou hast loved hire upon every cornfloor. ² The threshing-floor and the winepress shall not feed them, and the new wine shall fail her.

¹⁰ The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted, the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.

¹⁶ Is not the meat cut off before our eyes, [yea], joy and gladness from the house of our God?

¹⁷ For though the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: ¹⁸ Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.

¹⁹ Is the seed yet in the barn? yea, the vine, and the fig tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive tree hath not brought forth; from this day will I bless [you].
