¹⁵ Though he slay me, yet will I wait for him: nevertheless I will maintain my ways before him.

⁶ My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle, and are spent without hope.

⁷ Although thou knowest that I am not wicked; and there is none that can deliver out of thine hand?

¹⁸ Behold now, I have ordered my cause; I know that I am righteous.

¹⁷ Although there is no violence in mine hands, and my prayer is pure.

²¹ That he would maintain the right of a man with God, and of a son of man with his neighbour!

²⁵ But I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand up at the last upon the earth: ²⁶ And after my skin hath been thus destroyed, yet from my flesh shall I see God: ²⁷ Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another. My reins are consumed within me. ²⁸ If ye say, How we will persecute him! seeing that the root of the matter is found in me;

⁴ I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments. ⁵ I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would say unto me. ⁶ Would he contend with me in the greatness of his power? Nay; but he would give heed unto me. ⁷ There the upright might reason with him; so should I be delivered for ever from my judge.

¹⁰ But he knoweth the way that I take; when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

⁵ God forbid that I should justify you: till I die I will not put away mine integrity from me.

³¹ If the men of my tent said not, Who can find one that hath not been satisfied with his flesh? ³² The stranger did not lodge in the street; but I opened my doors to the traveller; ³³ If like Adam I covered my transgressions, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom; ³⁴ Because I feared the great multitude, and the contempt of families terrified me, so that I kept silence, and went not out of the door— ³⁵ Oh that I had one to hear me! (lo, here is my signature, let the Almighty answer me;) and [that I had] the indictment which mine adversary hath written! ³⁶ Surely I would carry it upon my shoulder; I would bind it unto me as a crown. ³⁷ I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near unto him.

² Shall he that cavilleth contend with the Almighty? he that argueth with God, let him answer it.

⁴ Behold, I am of small account; what shall I answer thee? I lay mine hand upon my mouth. ⁵ Once have I spoken, and I will not answer; yea twice, but I will proceed no further.

⁸ Wilt thou even disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be justified?

⁴ Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me: thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.

³² The wicked is thrust down in his evil-doing: but the righteous hath hope in his death.

³⁸ For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, ³⁹ nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

²⁰ whereinsoever our heart condemn us; because God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.
