¹⁶ Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls: but they said, We will not walk [therein].

⁷ Remember the days of old, Consider the years of many generations: Ask thy father, and he will shew thee; Thine elders, and they will tell thee.

⁷ Tell me, O thou whom my soul loveth, where thou feedest [thy flock], where thou makest [it] to rest at noon: for why should I be as one that is veiled beside the flocks of thy companions? ⁸ If thou know not, O thou fairest among women, go thy way forth by the footsteps of the flock, and feed thy kids beside the shepherds’ tents.

⁵ O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the LORD.

²⁰ To the law and to the testimony! if they speak not according to this word, surely there is no morning for them.

¹² to whom he said, This is the rest, give ye rest to him that is weary; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

²¹ and thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it; when ye turn to the right hand and when e turn to the left.

²⁵ Withhold thy foot from being unshod, and thy throat from thirst: but thou saidst, There is no hope: no; for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go.

²³ but this thing I commanded them, saying, Hearken unto my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you.

¹² But they say, There is no hope: for we will walk after our own devices, and we will do every one after the stubbornness of his evil heart.

¹⁵ For my people hath forgotten me, they have burned incense to vanity; and they have caused them to stumble in their ways, in the ancient paths, to walk in bypaths, in a way not cast up;

²¹ I spake unto thee in thy prosperity; but thou saidst, I will not hear. This hath been thy manner from thy youth, that thou obeyedst not my voice.

¹⁶ As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the LORD, we will not hearken unto thee.

⁴ Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, even statutes and judgments.

²⁸ Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. ²⁹ Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

²⁸ But what think ye? A man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work today in the vineyard. ²⁹ And he answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented himself, and went. ³⁰ And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I [go], sir: and went not. ³¹ Whether of the twain did the will of his father? They say, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, that the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. ³² For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye saw it, did not even repent yourselves afterward, that ye might believe him.

²⁹ But Abraham saith, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.

³⁹ Ye search the scriptures, because ye think that in them ye have eternal life; and these are they which bear witness of me;

⁴⁶ For if ye believed Moses, ye would believe me; for he wrote of me. ⁴⁷ But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

³⁵ Jesus therefore said unto them, Yet a little while is the light among you. Walk while ye have the light, that darkness overtake you not: and he that walketh in the darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.

¹⁷ If ye know these things, blessed are ye if ye do them.

¹¹ Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, examining the scriptures daily, whether these things were so.

¹ What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh, hath found? ² For if Abraham was justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not toward God. ³ For what saith the scripture? And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned unto him for righteousness. ⁴ Now to him that worketh, the reward is not reckoned as of grace, but as of debt. ⁵ But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is reckoned for righteousness. ⁶ Even as David also pronounceth blessing upon the man, unto whom God reckoneth righteousness apart from works,

¹² and the father of circumcision to them who not only are of the circumcision, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham which he had in uncircumcision.

⁶ As therefore ye received Christ Jesus the Lord, [so] walk in him,

¹² that ye be not sluggish, but imitators of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

² For therein the elders had witness borne to them.
