¹⁶ And God made the two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: [he made] the stars also.

¹⁹ and lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun and the moon and the stars, even all the host of heaven, thou be drawn away and worship them, and serve them, which the LORD thy God hath divided unto all the peoples under the whole heaven.

¹² Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel; and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Aijalon. ¹³ And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the nation had avenged themselves of their enemies. ²⁶ If I beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking in brightness;

⁷ When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

³ When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;

⁶ His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.

¹⁶ The day is thine, the night also is thine: thou hast prepared the light and the sun.

⁷ To him that made great lights: for his mercy [endureth] for ever: ⁸ The sun to rule by day: for his mercy [endureth] for ever: ⁹ The moon and stars to rule by night: for his mercy [endureth] for ever.

³ Praise ye him, sun and moon; praise him, all ye stars of light.

⁵ Let them praise the name of the LORD: for he commanded, and they were created.

¹⁰ For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.

²³ Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed; for the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously.

²⁶ Lift up your eyes on high, and see who hath created these, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by name; by the greatness of his might, and for that he is strong in power, not one is lacking.

⁷ I form the light, and create darkness; I make peace, and create evil; I am the LORD, that doeth all these things.

¹¹ The sun and moon stood still in their habitation; at the light of thine arrows as they went, at the shining of thy glittering spear.

²⁹ But immediately, after the tribulation of those days, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

⁴⁵ Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour.

⁴¹ There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for one star differeth from another star in glory.

⁸ And the fourth poured out his bowl upon the sun; and it was given unto it to scorch men with fire. ⁹ And men were scorched with great heat: and they blasphemed the name of the God which hath the power over these plagues; and they repented not to give him glory.

²³ And the city hath no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine upon it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the lamp thereof [is] the Lamb.
