¹³ Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake, and that my soul may live because of thee.

²⁹ And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram’s wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor’s wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.

² And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.

⁵ Said he not himself unto me, She is my sister? and she, even she herself said, He is my brother: in the integrity of my heart and the innocency of my hands have I done this.

¹² And moreover she is indeed my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife: ¹³ and it came to pass, when God caused me to wander from my father’s house, that I said unto her, This is thy kindness which thou shalt shew unto me; at every place whither we shall come, say of me, He is my brother.

⁷ and the men of the place asked him of his wife; and he said, She is my sister: for he feared to say, My wife; lest, [said he], the men of the place should kill me for Rebekah: because she was fair to look upon.

³ Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. ⁴ His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish. ⁵ Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God:

¹¹ And of whom hast thou been afraid and in fear, that thou liest, and hast not remembered me, nor laid it to thy heart? have not I held my peace even of long time, and fearest me not?

⁵ Thus saith the LORD: Cursed is the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD. ⁶ For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, a salt land and not inhabited. ⁷ Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. ⁸ For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out his roots by the river, and shall not fear when heat cometh, but his leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

⁴ Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.

⁶⁹ Now Peter was sitting without in the court: and a maid came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus the Galilaean. ⁷⁰ But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest. ⁷¹ And when he was gone out into the porch, another [maid] saw him, and saith unto them that were there, This man also was with Jesus the Nazarene. ⁷² And again he denied with an oath, I know not the man. ⁷³ And after a little while they that stood by came and said to Peter, Of a truth thou also art [one] of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee. ⁷⁴ Then began he to curse and to swear, I know not the man. And straightway the cock crew. ⁷⁵ And Peter remembered the word which Jesus had said, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

⁴⁴ Ye are of [your] father the devil, and the lusts of your father it is your will to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and stood not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father thereof.

⁶ God forbid: for then how shall God judge the world? ⁷ But if the truth of God through my lie abounded unto his glory, why am I also still judged as a sinner? ⁸ and why not (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say), Let us do evil, that good may come? whose condemnation is just.

²³ For the wages of sin is death; but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
