¹ The elder unto Gaius the beloved, whom I love in truth. ² Beloved, I pray that in all things thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. ³ For I rejoiced greatly, when brethren came and bare witness unto thy truth, even as thou walkest in truth. ⁴ Greater joy have I none than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth. ⁵ Beloved, thou doest a faithful work in whatsoever thou doest toward them that are brethren and strangers withal; ⁶ who bare witness to thy love before the church: whom thou wilt do well to set forward on their journey worthily of God: ⁷ because that for the sake of the Name they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles. ⁸ We therefore ought to welcome such, that we may be fellow-workers with the truth. ⁹ I wrote somewhat unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not. ¹⁰ Therefore, if I come, I will bring to remembrance his works which he doeth, prating against us with wicked words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and them that would he forbiddeth, and casteth [them] out of the church. ¹¹ Beloved, imitate not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: he that doeth evil hath not seen God. ¹² Demetrius hath the witness of all [men], and of the truth itself: yea, we also bear witness; and thou knowest that our witness is true. ¹³ I had many things to write unto thee, but I am unwilling to write [them] to thee with ink and pen: ¹⁴ but I hope shortly to see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace [be] unto thee. The friends salute thee. Salute the friends by name.

²⁹ And the city was filled with the confusion: and they rushed with one accord into the theatre, having seized Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul’s companions in travel.

⁴ And there accompanied him as far as Asia Sopater of Beroea, [the son] of Pyrrhus; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; and Gaius of Derbe, and Timothy; and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus.

²³ Gaius my host, and of the whole church, saluteth you. Erastus the treasurer of the city saluteth you, and Quartus the brother.

¹⁴ I thank God that I baptized none of you, save Crispus and Gaius;

¹⁸ [My] little children, let us not love in word, neither with the tongue; but in deed and truth.

¹ The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in truth; and not I only, but also all they that know the truth; ² for the truth’s sake which abideth in us, and it shall be with us for ever: ³ Grace, mercy, peace shall be with us, from God the Father, and from Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love. ⁴ I rejoice greatly that I have found [certain] of thy children walking in truth, even as we received commandment from the Father. ⁵ And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote to thee a new commandment, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another. ⁶ And this is love, that we should walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, even as ye heard from the beginning, that ye should walk in it. ⁷ For many deceivers are gone forth into the world, [even] they that confess not that Jesus Christ cometh in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the antichrist. ⁸ Look to yourselves, that ye lose not the things which we have wrought, but that ye receive a full reward. ⁹ Whosoever goeth onward and abideth not in the teaching of Christ, hath not God: he that abideth in the teaching, the same hath both the Father and the Son. ¹⁰ If any one cometh unto you, and bringeth not this teaching, receive him not into [your] house, and give him no greeting: ¹¹ for he that giveth him greeting partaketh in his evil works. ¹² Having many things to write unto you, I would not [write them] with paper and ink: but I hope to come unto you, and to speak face to face, that your joy may be fulfilled. ¹³ The children of thine elect sister salute thee.

The LORD answer thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob set thee up on high; ² Send thee help from the sanctuary, and strengthen thee out of Zion; ³ Remember all thy offerings, and accept thy burnt sacrifice; Selah ⁴ Grant thee thy heart’s desire, and fulfill all thy counsel. ⁵ We will triumph in thy salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners: the LORD fulfill all thy petitions.

⁴ not looking each of you to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others.

²⁷ for indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, that I might not have sorrow upon sorrow.

⁴ having heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have toward all the saints, ⁵ because of the hope which is laid up for you in the heavens, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel, ⁶ which is come unto you; even as it is also in all the world bearing fruit and increasing, as [it doth] in you also, since the day ye heard and knew the grace of God in truth;

³ remembering without ceasing your work of faith and labour of love and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, before our God and Father; ⁴ knowing, brethren beloved of God, your election, ⁵ how that our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and [in] much assurance; even as ye know what manner of men we shewed ourselves toward you for your sake. ⁶ And ye became imitators of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost; ⁷ so that ye became an ensample to all that believe in Macedonia and in Achaia. ⁸ For from you hath sounded forth the word of the Lord, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but in every place your faith to God-ward is gone forth; so that we need not to speak anything. ⁹ For they themselves report concerning us what manner of entering in we had unto you; and how ye turned unto God from idols, to serve a living and true God, ¹⁰ and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, [even] Jesus, which delivereth us from the wrath to come.

¹³ And for this cause we also thank God without ceasing, that, when ye received from us the word of the message, [even the word] of God, ye accepted [it] not [as] the word of men, but, as it is in truth, the word of God, which also worketh in you that believe. ¹⁴ For ye, brethren, became imitators of the churches of God which are in Judaea in Christ Jesus: for ye also suffered the same things of your own countrymen, even as they did of the Jews;

¹⁹ For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of glorying? Are not even ye, before our Lord Jesus at his coming? ²⁰ For ye are our glory and our joy.

⁶ But when Timothy came even now unto us from you, and brought us glad tidings of your faith and love, and that ye have good remembrance of us always, longing to see us, even as we also [to see] you; ⁷ for this cause, brethren, we were comforted over you in all our distress and affliction through your faith: ⁸ for now we live, if ye stand fast in the Lord. ⁹ For what thanksgiving can we render again unto God for you, for all the joy wherewith we joy for your sakes before our God;

³ We are bound to give thanks to God alway for you, brethren, even as it is meet, for that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the love of each one of you all toward one another aboundeth;

¹³ But we are bound to give thanks to God alway for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, for that God chose you from the beginning unto salvation in sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

⁵ hearing of thy love, and of the faith which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all the saints; ⁶ that the fellowship of thy faith may become effectual, in the knowledge of every good thing which is in you, unto Christ. ⁷ For I had much joy and comfort in thy love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through thee, brother.

¹² But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by the heaven, nor by the earth, nor by any other oath: but let your yea be yea, and your nay, nay; that ye fall not under judgment.

⁸ above all things being fervent in your love among yourselves; for love covereth a multitude of sins:

³ seeing that his divine power hath granted unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that called us by his own glory and virtue; ⁴ whereby he hath granted unto us his precious and exceeding great promises; that through these ye may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world by lust. ⁵ Yea, and for this very cause adding on your part all diligence, in your faith supply virtue; and in [your] virtue knowledge; ⁶ and in [your] knowledge temperance; and in [your] temperance patience; and in [your] patience godliness; ⁷ and in [your] godliness love of the brethren; and in [your] love of the brethren love. ⁸ For if these things are yours and abound, they make you to be not idle nor unfruitful unto the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁹ For he that lacketh these things is blind, seeing only what is near, having forgotten the cleansing from his old sins.

¹⁸ But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him [be] the glory both now and for ever. Amen.

¹¹ Thy word have I laid up in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

⁸ First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is proclaimed throughout the whole world. ⁹ For God is my witness, whom I serve in my spirit in the gospel of his Son, how unceasingly I make mention of you, always in my prayers

⁶ Nevertheless he that comforteth the lowly, [even] God, comforted us by the coming of Titus; ⁷ and not by his coming only, but also by the comfort wherewith he was comforted in you, while he told us your longing, your mourning, your zeal for me; so that I rejoiced yet more.

¹⁵ For this cause I also, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which is among you, and which [ye shew] toward all the saints, ¹⁶ cease not to give thanks for you, making mention [of you] in my prayers;

⁴ always in every supplication of mine on behalf of you all making my supplication with joy,

⁷ even as ye learned of Epaphras our beloved fellow-servant, who is a faithful minister of Christ on our behalf, ⁸ who also declared unto us your love in the Spirit.

² for the truth’s sake which abideth in us, and it shall be with us for ever:

⁴ I rejoice greatly that I have found [certain] of thy children walking in truth, even as we received commandment from the Father.

⁴ Greater joy have I none than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth.

⁴ That the LORD may establish his word which he spake concerning me, saying, If thy children take heed to their way, to walk before me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail thee (said he) a man on the throne of Israel.

⁶ And Solomon said, Thou hast shewed unto thy servant David my father great kindness, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.

³ Remember now, O LORD, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.

¹ [A Psalm] of David. Judge me, O LORD, for I have walked in mine integrity: I have trusted also in the LORD without wavering. ² Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; try my reins and my heart. ³ For thy lovingkindness is before mine eyes; and I have walked in thy truth.

²⁴ The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.

¹⁸ Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion.

³ and said, Remember now, O LORD, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.

³⁵ Jesus therefore said unto them, Yet a little while is the light among you. Walk while ye have the light, that darkness overtake you not: and he that walketh in the darkness knoweth not whither he goeth. ³⁶ While ye have the light, believe on the light, that ye may become sons of light. These things spake Jesus, and he departed and hid himself from them.

¹⁴ I write not these things to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children. ¹⁵ For though ye should have ten thousand tutors in Christ, yet [have ye] not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I begat you through the gospel.

¹⁴ But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Cephas before [them] all, If thou, being a Jew, livest as do the Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, how compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?

¹⁹ My little children, of whom I am again in travail until Christ be formed in you,

² unto Timothy, my true child in faith: Grace, mercy, peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

¹⁰ I beseech thee for my child, whom I have begotten in my bonds, Onesimus,

⁴⁵ Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath set over his household, to give them their food in due season?

⁴² And the Lord said, Who then is the faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall set over his household, to give them their portion of food in due season?

¹⁰ He that is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much: and he that is unrighteous in a very little is unrighteous also in much. ¹¹ If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true [riches]? ¹² And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another’s, who will give you that which is your own?

¹ Therefore seeing we have this ministry, even as we obtained mercy, we faint not: ² but we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by the manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. ³ But and if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled in them that are perishing:

¹⁰ So then, as we have opportunity, let us work that which is good toward all men, and especially toward them that are of the household of the faith.

¹⁷ And whatsoever ye do, in word or in deed, [do] all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

¹⁰ according as each hath received a gift, ministering it among yourselves, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God; ¹¹ if any man speaketh, [speaking] as it were oracles of God; if any man ministereth, [ministering] as of the strength which God supplieth: that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, whose is the glory and the dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

⁷ If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin coucheth at the door: and unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.

⁴ And the LORD said, Doest thou well to be angry?

²¹ His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. ²² And he also that [received] the two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: lo, I have gained other two talents. ²³ His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

³ They therefore, being brought on their way by the church, passed through both Phoenicia and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren.

²⁹ that ye abstain from things sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication; from which if ye keep yourselves, it shall be well with you. Fare ye well.

⁵ And when it came to pass that we had accomplished the days, we departed and went on our journey; and they all, with wives and children, brought us on our way, till we were out of the city: and kneeling down on the beach, we prayed,

²⁴ whensoever I go unto Spain (for I hope to see you in my journey, and to be brought on my way thitherward by you, if first in some measure I shall have been satisfied with your company)—

¹⁶ and by you to pass into Macedonia, and again from Macedonia to come unto you, and of you to be set forward on my journey unto Judaea.

¹⁴ Howbeit ye did well, that ye had fellowship with my affliction.

¹⁰ to walk worthily of the Lord unto all pleasing, bearing fruit in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

¹² to the end that ye should walk worthily of God, who calleth you into his own kingdom and glory.

¹³ Set forward Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their journey diligently, that nothing be wanting unto them.

²⁰ For what glory is it, if, when ye sin, and are buffeted [for it], ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer [for it], ye shall take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.

¹² Demetrius hath the witness of all [men], and of the truth itself: yea, we also bear witness; and thou knowest that our witness is true.

¹⁵ And he returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him: and he said, Behold now, I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel: now therefore, I pray thee, take a present of thy servant. ¹⁶ But he said, As the LORD liveth, before whom I stand, I will receive none. And he urged him to take it; but he refused.

²⁰ But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, Behold, my master hath spared this Naaman the Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought: as the LORD liveth, I will run after him, and take somewhat of him. ²¹ So Gehazi followed after Naaman. And when Naaman saw one running after him, he lighted down from the chariot to meet him, and said, Is all well? ²² And he said, All is well. My master hath sent me, saying, Behold, even now there be come to me from the hill country of Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets; give them, I pray thee, a talent of silver, and two changes of raiment. ²³ And Naaman said, Be content, take two talents. And he urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of raiment, and laid them upon two of his servants; and they bare them before him. ²⁴ And when he came to the hill, he took them from their hand, and bestowed them in the house: and he let the men go, and they departed. ²⁵ But he went in, and stood before his master. And Elisha said unto him, Whence comest thou, Gehazi? And he said, Thy servant went no whither. ²⁶ And he said unto him, Went not mine heart [with thee], when the man turned again from his chariot to meet thee? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and oliveyards and vineyards, and sheep and oxen, and menservants and maidservants? ²⁷ The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave unto thee, and unto thy seed for ever. And he went out from his presence a leper [as white] as snow.

⁴¹ They therefore departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonour for the Name.

⁴ They therefore that were scattered abroad went about preaching the word.

¹⁶ for I will shew him how many things he must suffer for my name’s sake.

¹² If others partake of [this] right over you, do not we yet more? Nevertheless we did not use this right; but we bear all things, that we may cause no hindrance to the gospel of Christ. ¹³ Know ye not that they which minister about sacred things eat [of] the things of the temple, [and] they which wait upon the altar have their portion with the altar? ¹⁴ Even so did the Lord ordain that they which proclaim the gospel should live of the gospel. ¹⁵ But I have used none of these things: and I write not these things that it may be so done in my case: for [it were] good for me rather to die, than that any man should make my glorying void.

¹⁸ What then is my reward? That, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel without charge, so as not to use to the full my right in the gospel.

⁵ For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake.

⁷ Or did I commit a sin in abasing myself that ye might be exalted, because I preached to you the gospel of God for nought? ⁸ I robbed other churches, taking wages [of them] that I might minister unto you; ⁹ and when I was present with you and was in want, I was not a burden on any man; for the brethren, when they came from Macedonia, supplied the measure of my want; and in everything I kept myself from being burdensome unto you, and [so] will I keep [myself].

¹³ For what is there wherein ye were made inferior to the rest of the churches, except [it be] that I myself was not a burden to you? forgive me this wrong.

²⁴ Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and fill up on my part that which is lacking of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body’s sake, which is the church;

³ and thou hast patience and didst bear for my name’s sake, and hast not grown weary.

¹⁴ And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, as ye go forth out of that house or that city, shake off the dust of your feet.

⁴⁰ He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

⁷ and he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee?

⁵ What then is Apollos? and what is Paul? Ministers through whom ye believed; and each as the Lord gave to him. ⁶ I planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. ⁷ So then neither is he that planteth anything, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. ⁸ Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: but each shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. ⁹ For we are God’s fellow-workers: ye are God’s husbandry, God’s building.

¹⁰ Now if Timothy come, see that he be with you without fear; for he worketh the work of the Lord, as I also do: ¹¹ let no man therefore despise him. But set him forward on his journey in peace, that he may come unto me: for I expect him with the brethren.

¹ And working together [with him] we entreat also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain

² Open your hearts to us: we wronged no man, we corrupted no man, we took advantage of no man. ³ I say it not to condemn [you]: for I have said before, that ye are in our hearts to die together and live together.

²³ Whether [any inquire] about Titus, [he is] my partner and [my] fellow-worker to you-ward; or our brethren, [they are] the messengers of the churches, [they are] the glory of Christ.

³ Yea, I beseech thee also, true yokefellow, help these women, for they laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and the rest of my fellow-workers, whose names are in the book of life.

¹¹ and Jesus, which is called Justus, who are of the circumcision: these only [are my] fellow-workers unto the kingdom of God, men that have been a comfort unto me.

² and sent Timothy, our brother and God’s minister in the gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort [you] concerning your faith;

² and to Apphia our sister, and to Archippus our fellow-soldier, and to the church in thy house:

²⁴ [and so do] Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, Luke, my fellow-workers.

²⁰ Then came to him the mother of the sons of Zebedee with her sons, worshipping [him], and asking a certain thing of him. ²¹ And he said unto her, What wouldest thou? She saith unto him, Command that these my two sons may sit, one on thy right hand, and one on thy left hand, in thy kingdom. ²² But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink the cup that I am about to drink? They say unto him, We are able. ²³ He saith unto them, My cup indeed ye shall drink: but to sit on my right hand, and on [my] left hand, is not mine to give, but [it is for them] for whom it hath been prepared of my Father. ²⁴ And when the ten heard it, they were moved with indignation concerning the two brethren. ²⁵ But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. ²⁶ Not so shall it be among you: but whosoever would become great among you shall be your minister; ²⁷ and whosoever would be first among you shall be your servant: ²⁸ even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

⁴ Yea, they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with their finger. ⁵ But all their works they do for to be seen of men: for they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders [of their garments], ⁶ and love the chief place at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, ⁷ and the salutations in the marketplaces, and to be called of men, Rabbi. ⁸ But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your teacher, and all ye are brethren.

³⁴ But they held their peace: for they had disputed one with another in the way, who [was] the greatest.

³⁷ Whosoever shall receive one of such little children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever receiveth me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.

³⁵ And there come near unto him James and John, the sons of Zebedee, saying unto him, Master, we would that thou shouldest do for us whatsoever we shall ask of thee. ³⁶ And he said unto them, What would ye that I should do for you? ³⁷ And they said unto him, Grant unto us that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and one on [thy] left hand, in thy glory. ³⁸ But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink the cup that I drink? or to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? ³⁹ And they said unto him, We are able. And Jesus said unto them, The cup that I drink ye shall drink; and with the baptism that I am baptized withal shall ye be baptized: ⁴⁰ but to sit on my right hand or on [my] left hand is not mine to give: but [it is for them] for whom it hath been prepared. ⁴¹ And when the ten heard it, they began to be moved with indignation concerning James and John. ⁴² And Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles lord it over them; and their great ones exercise authority over them. ⁴³ But it is not so among you: but whosoever would become great among you, shall be your minister: ⁴⁴ and whosoever would be first among you, shall be servant of all. ⁴⁵ For verily the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

⁴⁸ and said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this little child in my name receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me receiveth him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, the same is great.

²⁴ And there arose also a contention among them, which of them is accounted to be greatest. ²⁵ And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles have lordship over them; and they that have authority over them are called Benefactors. ²⁶ But ye [shall] not [be] so: but he that is the greater among you, let him become as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve. ²⁷ For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am in the midst of you as he that serveth.

¹⁰ In love of the brethren be tenderly affectioned one to another; in honour preferring one another;

³ [doing] nothing through faction or through vainglory, but in lowliness of mind each counting other better than himself; ⁴ not looking each of you to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others. ⁵ Have this mind in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

⁷ For the bishop must be blameless, as God’s steward; not selfwilled, not soon angry, no brawler, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; ⁸ but given to hospitality, a lover of good, soberminded, just, holy, temperate; ⁹ holding to the faithful word which is according to the teaching, that he may be able both to exhort in the sound doctrine, and to convict the gainsayers. ¹⁰ For there are many unruly men, vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision, ¹¹ whose mouths must be stopped; men who overthrow whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre’s sake. ¹² One of themselves, a prophet of their own, said, Cretans are alway liars, evil beasts, idle gluttons. ¹³ This testimony is true. For which cause reprove them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, ¹⁴ not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men who turn away from the truth. ¹⁵ To the pure all things are pure: but to them that are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but both their mind and their conscience are defiled. ¹⁶ They profess that they know God; but by their works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

⁸ We therefore ought to welcome such, that we may be fellow-workers with the truth.

⁸ The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.

¹⁰ He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.

⁵ Hear the word of the LORD, ye that tremble at his word: Your brethren that hate you, that cast you out for my name’s sake, have said, Let the LORD be glorified, that we may see your joy; but they shall be ashamed.

²² Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you [from their company], and reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake.

²² These things said his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man should confess him [to be] Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.

³⁴ They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out. ³⁵ Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and finding him, he said, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?

¹ It is actually reported that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not even among the Gentiles, that one [of you] hath his father’s wife. ² And ye are puffed up, and did not rather mourn, that he that had done this deed might be taken away from among you. ³ For I verily, being absent in body but present in spirit, have already, as though I were present, judged him that hath so wrought this thing, ⁴ in the name of our Lord Jesus, ye being gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus, ⁵ to deliver such a one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

¹ Now I Paul myself entreat you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, I who in your presence am lowly among you, but being absent am of good courage toward you: ² yea, I beseech you, that I may not when present shew courage with the confidence wherewith I count to be bold against some, which count of us as if we walked according to the flesh. ³ For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh ⁴ (for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the casting down of strong holds); ⁵ casting down imaginations, and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ; ⁶ and being in readiness to avenge all disobedience, when your obedience shall be fulfilled. ⁷ Ye look at the things that are before your face. If any man trusteth in himself that he is Christ’s, let him consider this again with himself, that, even as he is Christ’s, so also are we. ⁸ For though I should glory somewhat abundantly concerning our authority (which the Lord gave for building you up, and not for casting you down), I shall not be put to shame: ⁹ that I may not seem as if I would terrify you by my letters. ¹⁰ For, His letters, they say, are weighty and strong; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech of no account. ¹¹ Let such a one reckon this, that, what we are in word by letters when we are absent, such [are we] also in deed when we are present.

² I have said beforehand, and I do say beforehand, as when I was present the second time, so now, being absent, to them that have sinned heretofore, and to all the rest, that, if I come again, I will not spare;

⁵ Beloved, thou doest a faithful work in whatsoever thou doest toward them that are brethren and strangers withal;

² Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to turn aside after a multitude to wrest [judgment]:

¹⁴ Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.

²⁷ Depart from evil, and do good; dwell for evermore.

¹¹ He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain [persons] is void of understanding.

¹⁶ Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil: ¹⁷ learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.

²⁰ For every one that doeth ill hateth the light, and cometh not to the light, lest his works should be reproved.

²⁷ My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

²⁶ If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will the Father honour.

¹⁶ I beseech you therefore, be ye imitators of me.

¹ Be ye imitators of me, even as I also am of Christ.

¹ Be ye therefore imitators of God, as beloved children;

¹⁷ Brethren, be ye imitators together of me, and mark them which so walk even as ye have us for an ensample.

⁶ And ye became imitators of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost;

¹⁴ For ye, brethren, became imitators of the churches of God which are in Judaea in Christ Jesus: for ye also suffered the same things of your own countrymen, even as they did of the Jews;

¹⁰ But thou didst follow my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, patience,

¹² that ye be not sluggish, but imitators of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

¹¹ And let him turn away from evil, and do good; Let him seek peace, and pursue it.

¹³ And who is he that will harm you, if ye be zealous of that which is good?

²⁹ If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one also that doeth righteousness is begotten of him.

⁶ Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither knoweth him. ⁷ [My] little children, let no man lead you astray: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous: ⁸ he that doeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. To this end was the Son of God manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. ⁹ Whosoever is begotten of God doeth no sin, because his seed abideth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is begotten of God.

³⁵ And he that hath seen hath borne witness, and his witness is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye also may believe.

²⁴ This is the disciple which beareth witness of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his witness is true.

²² And they said, Cornelius a centurion, a righteous man and one that feareth God, and well reported of by all the nation of the Jews, was warned [of God] by a holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words from thee.

¹² And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, well reported of by all the Jews that dwelt there,

¹² that ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and may have need of nothing.

⁷ Moreover he must have good testimony from them that are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

¹² Having many things to write unto you, I would not [write them] with paper and ink: but I hope to come unto you, and to speak face to face, that your joy may be fulfilled.

²³ And he said, Peace be to you, fear not: your God, and the God of your father, hath given you treasure in your sacks: I had your money. And he brought Simeon out unto them.

¹ Nebuchadnezzar the king, unto all the peoples, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; peace be multiplied unto you.

¹ I commend unto you Phoebe our sister, who is a servant of the church that is at Cenchreae: ² that ye receive her in the Lord, worthily of the saints, and that ye assist her in whatsoever matter she may have need of you: for she herself also hath been a succourer of many, and of mine own self. ³ Salute Prisca and Aquila my fellow-workers in Christ Jesus, ⁴ who for my life laid down their own necks; unto whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles: ⁵ and [salute] the church that is in their house. Salute Epaenetus my beloved, who is the firstfruits of Asia unto Christ. ⁶ Salute Mary, who bestowed much labour on you. ⁷ Salute Andronicus and Junias, my kinsmen, and my fellow-prisoners, who are of note among the apostles, who also have been in Christ before me. ⁸ Salute Ampliatus my beloved in the Lord. ⁹ Salute Urbanus our fellow-worker in Christ, and Stachys my beloved. ¹⁰ Salute Apelles the approved in Christ. Salute them which are of the [household] of Aristobulus. ¹¹ Salute Herodion my kinsman. Salute them of the [household] of Narcissus, which are in the Lord. ¹² Salute Tryphaena and Tryphosa, who labour in the Lord. Salute Persis the beloved, which laboured much in the Lord. ¹³ Salute Rufus the chosen in the Lord, and his mother and mine. ¹⁴ Salute Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermes, Patrobas, Hermas, and the brethren that are with them. ¹⁵ Salute Philologus and Julia, Nereus and his sister, and Olympas, and all the saints that are with them. ¹⁶ Salute one another with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ salute you.

¹⁶ But I say, Walk by the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

²³ Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁴ Salute one another with a kiss of love. Peace be unto you all that are in Christ.

³ To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.
