³² But whosoever commits adultery with a woman has a fault in his heart; he that does it corrupts his own soul.

⁹ there is none greater in this house than I; neither has he kept back anything from me but thee because thou art his wife; how then can I do this great wickedness and sin against God? ¹⁰ And it came to pass as she spoke to Joseph day by day, that he did not hearken unto her, to lie by her or to be with her.

³⁹ And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God has showed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art.

¹⁴ Thou shalt not commit adultery.

¹⁸ Therefore her house inclines unto death, and her paths unto the dead. ¹⁹ None that go unto her return again, neither do they take hold of the paths of life.

²² His own iniquities shall take hold of the wicked, and he shall be imprisoned with the cords of his sins. ²³ He shall die because he did not submit to chastening; and due to the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

⁷ and beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,

²² He went after her straightway, as an ox goes to the slaughter or as a fool to the correction of the stocks, ²³ until the arrow pierces through his liver. He is as a bird struggling in the snare and not knowing that it is against his own life.

³⁶ But he that sins against me wrongs his own soul; all those that hate me love death.

⁴ whosoever is simple, let him turn in here; as for those that lack understanding, {Heb. lacking of heart}, she saith unto him,

¹⁶ Whosoever is simple, let him turn in here; and as for him that lacks understanding, she saith unto him: ¹⁷ Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant. ¹⁸ But he does not know that the dead are there and that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.

²⁵ I applied my heart to know and to search and to seek out wisdom and the reason of things, and to know the wickedness of folly and the madness of error; ²⁶ and I find more bitter than death the woman whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands are bonds; whosoever pleases God shall escape from her, but the sinner shall be held prisoner in her.

⁸ They were as fed horses in the morning; each one neighed after his neighbour’s wife.

²¹ Hear now this, O foolish people and without heart, who have eyes and do not see; who have ears, and do not hear:

³¹ Cast away from you all your iniquities by which ye have rebelled, and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

¹¹ Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart. ¹² ¶ My people ask counsel of their wooden idol, and their stick declares unto them; for the spirit of whoredoms has caused them to err, and they have gone a whoring under their gods.

⁹ ¶ O Israel, thou hast caused thyself to become lost, but in me is thine help.

²² Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools ²³ and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image of corruptible man and of birds and of fourfooted beasts and of serpents. ²⁴ Therefore God also gave them over to the lusts of their own hearts for uncleanness, to contaminate their own bodies between themselves,

⁴ Let marriage be honourable in all and the bed undefiled; but the fornicators and adulterers God will judge.
