¹⁰ ¶ The righteous is merciful even unto his beast, but the piety of the wicked is cruel.

I wish there were a sword in my hand, for now would I kill thee. ³⁰ And the ass said unto Balaam, Am I not thine ass upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine unto this day? Was I ever accustomed to do so unto thee? And he said, No. ³¹ Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way and his sword drawn in his hand; and he bowed down his head and fell flat on his face. ³² And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Why hast thou smitten thine ass these three times? Behold, I went out as thine adversary, because thy way is perverse before me.

¹¹ The woman said unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep; from where then hast thou that living water?

Shall this type of faith be able to save them? ¹⁵ If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, ¹⁶ and one of you says unto them, Depart in peace; be ye warmed and filled; but ye do not give them those things which are needful for the body; what shall it profit them?

¹⁷ But whosoever has this world’s goods and sees his brother have need and shuts up his bowels of compassion from him, how does the charity of God abide in him?
