⁵ And the people spoke against God and against Moses, Why have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loathes this light bread.

¹¹ And they said unto Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why hast thou dealt thus with us, to bring us forth out of Egypt?

²⁴ Then the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink?

² And the whole congregation of the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness; ³ and the sons of Israel said unto them, It would have been better if we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots and when we ate bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.

⁷ And in the morning ye shall see the glory of the LORD; for he has heard your murmurings against the LORD; and what are we, that ye murmur against us? ⁸ And Moses said, This shall be when the LORD shall give you in the evening flesh to eat and in the morning bread to the full; for the LORD has heard your murmurings which ye have murmured against him; and what are we? Your murmurings are not against us, but against the LORD.

¹⁵ And when the sons of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna (What is it?): for they did not know what it was. Then Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD has given you to eat.

³¹ And the house of Israel called its name Manna; and it was like coriander seed, white, and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.

² And the people chided with Moses and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? Why do ye tempt the LORD? ³ So the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses and said, Why hast thou brought us up out of Egypt to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?

¹ ¶ And it came to pass that the people complained in an evil manner in the ears of the LORD, and the LORD heard it; and his anger was kindled, and the fire of the LORD burnt among them and consumed in the uttermost parts of the camp. ² Then the people cried unto Moses, and when Moses prayed unto the LORD, the fire was quenched. ³ And he called the name of the place Taberah because the fire of the LORD burnt among them. ⁴ ¶ And the vulgar who were mixed in among them returned to their lust; and even the sons of Israel wept and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat? ⁵ We remember the fish, which we freely ate in Egypt, the cucumbers and the melons and the leeks and the onions and the garlic, ⁶ but now our soul is dried away; there is nothing at all besides this manna before our eyes. ⁷ And the manna was as coriander seed, and the colour thereof as the colour of bdellium. ⁸ And the people scattered about and gathered it and ground it in mills or beat it in a mortar and baked it in pans and made cakes of it, and the taste of it was as the taste of fresh oil. ⁹ And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon it.

¹ ¶ Then all the congregation lifted up their voice and cried, and the people wept that night. ² And all the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, and the whole congregation said unto them, Oh, that we might die in the land of Egypt or that we might die in this wilderness! ³ And why has the LORD brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? Would it not be better for us to return into Egypt? ⁴ And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.

¹³ Is it a small thing that thou hast brought us up out of a land that flowed with milk and honey to make us die in the wilderness, but thou must also make thyself lord to rule over us? ¹⁴ Moreover, thou hast not brought us into a land that flows with milk and honey or given us inheritance of fields and vineyards; wilt thou put out the eyes of these men? We will not come up.

⁴¹ ¶ But on the next day all the congregation of the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of the LORD.

¹² Then the sons of Israel spoke unto Moses, saying, Behold, we are dead, we are lost, we are all lost.

⁶ God sets the solitary in families; he brings out those who are bound with chains, but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.

¹⁹ And they spoke against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?

²⁴ and caused manna to rain upon them to eat and gave them wheat of the heavens. ²⁵ Man did eat the food of the strong; he sent them food to the full.

⁷ ¶ The full soul loathes a honeycomb, but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.
