¹ ¶ Then came the sons of Israel, even the whole congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month; and the people abode in Kadesh; and Miriam died there and was buried there. ² And there was no water for the congregation; and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron. ³ And the people contended with Moses and spoke, saying, Oh, that we had died when our brethren died before the LORD! ⁴ And why have ye caused the congregation of the LORD to come into this wilderness that we and our beasts should die here? ⁵ And why have ye made us to come up out of Egypt to bring us in unto this evil place? It is not a place to plant seed or of figs or of vines or of pomegranates; there is not even any water to drink. ⁶ And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the congregation unto the door of the tabernacle of the testimony, and they fell upon their faces; and the glory of the LORD appeared upon them. ⁷ And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying, ⁸ Take the rod and gather the congregation together, thou and Aaron, thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes, and it shall give forth its water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock; so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink. ⁹ Then Moses took the rod from before the LORD as he commanded him. ¹⁰ And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? ¹¹ Then Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice; and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also. ¹² And the LORD spoke unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the sons of Israel, therefore, ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them. ¹³ These are the waters of Meribah; over which the sons of Israel strove with the LORD, and he was sanctified in them. ¹⁴ ¶ And Moses sent ambassadors from Kadesh unto the king of Edom, Thus saith thy brother Israel, Thou knowest all the travail that has befallen us: ¹⁵ how our fathers went down into Egypt, and we were in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians mistreated us and our fathers; ¹⁶ and we cried unto the LORD, who heard our voice, and sent an angel and has brought us forth out of Egypt; and, behold, we are in Kadesh, a city on the edge of thy border. ¹⁷ Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy country; we will not pass through the fields or through the vineyards, neither will we drink of the water of the wells; we will go by the king’s high way, we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left until we have passed thy borders. ¹⁸ And Edom replied unto him, Thou shalt not pass by me lest I come out against thee with the sword. ¹⁹ And the sons of Israel said unto him, We will go by the high way; and if I and my cattle drink of thy water, then I will pay for it; I will only, without doing anything else, go through on my feet. ²⁰ And he said, Thou shalt not go through. And Edom came out against him with many people and with a strong hand. ²¹ Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border; and thus Israel turned away from him. ²² ¶ And the sons of Israel, even the whole congregation, journeyed from Kadesh, and came unto Mount Hor. ²³ And the LORD spoke unto Moses and Aaron in Mount Hor, on the borders of the land of Edom, saying, ²⁴ Aaron shall be gathered unto his peoples; for he shall not enter into the land which I have given unto the sons of Israel because ye were rebels to my word at the water of Meribah. ²⁵ Take Aaron and Eleazar, his son, and bring them up unto Mount Hor ²⁶ and cause Aaron to be stripped of his garments and put them upon Eleazar, his son; for Aaron shall be gathered unto his people and shall die there. ²⁷ And Moses did as the LORD commanded him; and they went up into Mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation. ²⁸ And Moses caused Aaron to be stripped of his garments and put them upon Eleazar, his son; and Aaron died there in the top of the mount; and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mount. ²⁹ And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they mourned for Aaron thirty days, even all the families of Israel.

⁴ And his sister stood afar off to see what would happen to him.

⁷ Then his sister said unto Pharaoh’s daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women that she may nurse the child for thee?

²⁰ And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.

¹ ¶ And Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had taken; for he had taken an Ethiopian woman.

¹⁰ ¶ And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle, and, behold, Miriam was leprous as the snow; and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous.

¹⁵ So Miriam was shut out from the camp seven days, and the people did not journey until Miriam was brought in again.

²¹ ¶ So they went up and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin unto Rehob, as men come to Hamath.

¹⁶ and we cried unto the LORD, who heard our voice, and sent an angel and has brought us forth out of Egypt; and, behold, we are in Kadesh, a city on the edge of thy border.

⁵⁹ And the name of Amram’s wife was Jochebed, daughter of Levi, whom her mother bore to Levi in Egypt: and she bore unto Amram Aaron and Moses and Miriam, their sister.

¹⁴ For ye were rebels to my word in the desert of Zin, in the strife of the congregation, to sanctify me in the waters before their eyes. These are the waters of Meribah of Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.

³⁶ And they removed from Eziongaber and pitched in the wilderness of Zin, which is Kadesh.

²² And ye came near unto me every one of you and said, We will send men before us, and they shall spy us out the land and bring us word again by what way we must go up and into what cities we shall come. ²³ And the saying seemed good unto me, and I took twelve men of you, one of each tribe.

¹⁴ And the days in which we came from Kadeshbarnea until we were come over the brook Zered, was thirty-eight years until all the generation of the men of war were wasted out from among the camp, as the LORD swore unto them.

⁵¹ because ye trespassed against me among the sons of Israel at the waters of Meribah-Kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin, because ye did not sanctify me in the midst of the sons of Israel.

⁸ The voice of the LORD that shall shake the wilderness; the LORD shall shake the wilderness of Kadesh.

⁴ For I brought thee up out of the land of Egypt and ransomed thee out of the house of slaves; and I sent before thee Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.

²³ And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter; therefore the name of it was called Marah. ²⁴ Then the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink?

² And the whole congregation of the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness;

⁷ And in the morning ye shall see the glory of the LORD; for he has heard your murmurings against the LORD; and what are we, that ye murmur against us?

¹² I have heard the murmurings of the sons of Israel; speak unto them, saying, Between the two evenings ye shall eat flesh, and tomorrow ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God.

¹ ¶ And all the congregation of the sons of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeys, according to the commandment of the LORD, and set up camp in Rephidim; and there was no water for the people to drink. ² And the people chided with Moses and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? Why do ye tempt the LORD? ³ So the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses and said, Why hast thou brought us up out of Egypt to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst? ⁴ Then Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, What shall I do with this people? They are almost ready to stone me.

¹ ¶ And it came to pass that the people complained in an evil manner in the ears of the LORD, and the LORD heard it; and his anger was kindled, and the fire of the LORD burnt among them and consumed in the uttermost parts of the camp. ² Then the people cried unto Moses, and when Moses prayed unto the LORD, the fire was quenched. ³ And he called the name of the place Taberah because the fire of the LORD burnt among them. ⁴ ¶ And the vulgar who were mixed in among them returned to their lust; and even the sons of Israel wept and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat? ⁵ We remember the fish, which we freely ate in Egypt, the cucumbers and the melons and the leeks and the onions and the garlic, ⁶ but now our soul is dried away; there is nothing at all besides this manna before our eyes.

³ and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron and said unto them, We have had enough of you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them; why then lift ye up yourselves above the congregation of the LORD?

¹⁹ And Korah had gathered all the congregation against them unto the door of the tabernacle of the testimony; then the glory of the LORD appeared unto all the congregation.

⁴² And it came to pass when the congregation was gathered against Moses and against Aaron that they looked toward the tabernacle of the testimony; and, behold, the cloud had covered it, and the glory of the LORD appeared.

⁵ And the people spoke against God and against Moses, Why have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loathes this light bread.

¹⁰ Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured and perished by the destroyer. ¹¹ Now all these things happened unto them as types, and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages are come.

² And the whole congregation of the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness; ³ and the sons of Israel said unto them, It would have been better if we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots and when we ate bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.

² And the people chided with Moses and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? Why do ye tempt the LORD?

¹ ¶ And it came to pass that the people complained in an evil manner in the ears of the LORD, and the LORD heard it; and his anger was kindled, and the fire of the LORD burnt among them and consumed in the uttermost parts of the camp.

³³ And while the flesh was yet between their teeth, before it was chewed, the wrath of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD smote the people with a very great plague. ³⁴ And he called the name of that place Kibrothhattaavah because there they buried the people that lusted.

¹ ¶ Then all the congregation lifted up their voice and cried, and the people wept that night. ² And all the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, and the whole congregation said unto them, Oh, that we might die in the land of Egypt or that we might die in this wilderness!

³⁶ ¶ And the men, whom Moses had sent to spy out the land, who returned and made all the congregation to murmur against him by bringing up a slander upon the land, ³⁷ even those men that brought an evil report of the land, died by the plague before the LORD.

³¹ And it came to pass as he had made an end of speaking all these words that the ground broke open under them; ³² the earth opened her mouth and swallowed them up, and their houses and all the men of Korah and all their goods. ³³ They and all that they had went down alive into Sheol, and the earth closed upon them, and they perished from among the congregation. ³⁴ And all Israel, those that were round about them, fled at the cry of them, for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up also. ³⁵ ¶ And fire came out from the LORD and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense.

⁴⁹ Now those that died in that plague were fourteen thousand seven hundred, besides those that died concerning the matter of Korah.

¹⁰ because it did not shut up the doors of my mother’s womb nor hide the misery from my eyes. ¹¹ ¶ Why did I not die from the womb? Why did I not give up the spirit when I came out of the belly?

⁹ Teth Those slain with the sword are better than those slain with hunger; for these pine away, stricken through for want of the fruits of the earth.

²¹ and they said unto them, The LORD look upon you and judge because ye have made our savour to be a stench before Pharaoh and his slaves, putting a sword in their hands to slay us.

¹¹ And they said unto Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why hast thou dealt thus with us, to bring us forth out of Egypt? ¹² Is this not what we told thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone that we may serve the Egyptians? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than that we should die in the wilderness.

³ and the sons of Israel said unto them, It would have been better if we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots and when we ate bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.

³ So the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses and said, Why hast thou brought us up out of Egypt to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?

⁵ We remember the fish, which we freely ate in Egypt, the cucumbers and the melons and the leeks and the onions and the garlic,

¹³ Is it a small thing that thou hast brought us up out of a land that flowed with milk and honey to make us die in the wilderness, but thou must also make thyself lord to rule over us? ¹⁴ Moreover, thou hast not brought us into a land that flows with milk and honey or given us inheritance of fields and vineyards; wilt thou put out the eyes of these men? We will not come up.

⁴¹ ¶ But on the next day all the congregation of the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of the LORD.

²¹ They forgot the God of their saving health, who had done great things in Egypt,

³⁵ This Moses, whom they had refused, saying, Who made thee a prince and a judge? the same did God send as prince and redeemer by the hand of the angel who appeared to him in the bush.

³⁹ to whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt, ⁴⁰ saying unto Aaron, Make us gods to go before us; for as for this Moses, who brought us out of the land of Egypt, we know not what is become of him.

¹⁴ Moreover, thou hast not brought us into a land that flows with milk and honey or given us inheritance of fields and vineyards; wilt thou put out the eyes of these men? We will not come up.

¹⁵ who led thee through that great and terrible wilderness of burning serpents and scorpions and drought, where there was no water, who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint,

²¹ Yea, forty years didst thou sustain them in the wilderness so that they lacked nothing; their clothes did not wax old, and their feet did not swell.

² Go and cry out in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD: I remember thee, the mercy of thy youth, the love of thine espousals, when thou didst go after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.

⁶ Neither did they say, Where is the LORD that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through and where no man dwelt?

³⁶ Like as I litigated with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so I will litigate with you, said the Lord GOD.

¹⁰ And it came to pass as Aaron spoke unto the whole congregation of the sons of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud.

⁴ Then Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, What shall I do with this people? They are almost ready to stone me.

⁵ Then the LORD came down in the pillar of the cloud and stood in the door of the tabernacle and called Aaron and Miriam; and they both came forth.

⁵ ¶ Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the sons of Israel.

¹⁰ Then all the multitude spoke of stoning them with stones. But the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the testimony before all the sons of Israel.

⁴ And when Moses heard it, he fell upon his face;

²² And they fell upon their faces and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin and wilt thou be wroth with all the congregation?

⁴⁵ Depart from among this congregation, and I will consume them in a moment. And they fell upon their faces.

⁶ ¶ Then Joshua rent his clothes and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of the LORD until the evening, he and the elders of Israel, putting dust upon their heads.

¹⁶ And David lifted up his eyes and saw the angel of the LORD stand between the heaven and the earth, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders of Israel, who were clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces.

³ They compassed me about with words of hatred and fought against me without a cause. ⁴ They have responded to my love by becoming my adversaries, but I give myself unto prayer.

³⁹ And he went a little further and fell on his face, praying and saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

¹⁴ Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.

² And the LORD said unto him, What is that in thy hand? And he said, A rod.

¹⁷ And thou shalt take this rod in thy hand with which thou shalt do the signs.

²⁰ Then Moses took his wife and his sons and set them upon an ass, and he returned to the land of Egypt; and Moses took the rod of God in his hand.

²⁰ And Moses and Aaron did so, as the LORD commanded; and lifting up the rod, he smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his slaves; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood.

¹⁶ And lift up thy rod and stretch out thy hand over the sea and divide it; and the sons of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.

⁵ And the LORD said unto Moses, Go on before the people and take with thee of the elders of Israel and thy rod, with which thou didst smite the river take in thine hand and go. ⁶ Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb, and thou shalt smite the rock, and water shall come out of it that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

⁹ And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men and go out, fight with Amalek; tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.

¹¹ Then Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice; and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.

¹⁵ and at the stream of the brooks that goes down to the dwelling of Ar, and lies upon the border of Moab.

¹⁸ The princes dug the well, the willing people dug it, and the lawgiver, with their staves. And from the wilderness they went to Mattanah.

⁵ And when they make a long sound of jubilee with the horn so that ye hear the voice of the shofar, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat; then the people shall ascend up each man straight before him.

²⁰ Then the people shouted when the priests blew with the shofarot, and it came to pass when the people heard the voice of the shofar, that the people shouted with a great shout, and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, each man straight before him and they took the city.

¹⁵ And thou didst give them bread from heaven in their hunger and didst bring forth water for them out of the rock in their thirst and didst promise them that they should go in to possess the land which thou hadst sworn to give them.

⁹ For he spoke, and it was done; he commanded, and it came into being.

¹⁵ He clave the rocks in the wilderness and gave them drink as out of the great depths. ¹⁶ He brought streams also out of the rock and caused waters to run down like rivers.

⁴¹ He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out; they ran in the dry places and became a river.

⁸ who turned the rock into a reservoir of water, the flint into a fountain of waters.

¹⁷ The poor and needy seek the waters that are not; their tongue fails for thirst; I the LORD will hear them; I the God of Israel will not forsake them. ¹⁸ I will open rivers in high places and fountains in the midst of the plains; I will turn the wilderness into pools of water and the dry land into springs of water.

²⁰ The beast of the field shall honour me, the dragons and the owls because I give waters in the wilderness and rivers in the desert to give drink to my people, my chosen.

²¹ And they did not thirst when he led them through the deserts; he caused water to flow out of the rock for them; he clave the rock, and the waters gushed out.

²¹ Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith and doubt not, ye shall not only do this to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea, it shall be done.

²² And Jesus, answering, said unto them, Have faith in God. ²³ For verily I say unto you that whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Remove thyself and cast thyself into the sea, and shall not doubt in his heart but shall believe that what he says shall be done whatsoever he says shall be done unto him. ²⁴ Therefore I say unto you that everything that ye ask for, praying, believe that ye receive it, and it shall come upon you.

¹³ If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those that ask him?

¹⁰ Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink, thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. ¹¹ The woman said unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep; from where then hast thou that living water? ¹² Art thou greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank thereof himself, and his sons and his cattle? ¹³ Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinks of this water shall thirst again, ¹⁴ but whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst, but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a fountain of water springing up into eternal life.

²⁴ Until now ye have asked nothing in my name; ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be fulfilled.

¹⁴ These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary, the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

¹ ¶ And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. ² And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. ³ And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. ⁴ And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

¹ ¶ And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.

¹⁷ And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that hears say, Come. And let him that is thirsty come; and whosoever will, let him take of the water of life freely.

¹⁰ And the LORD said unto Moses, Return Aaron’s rod before the testimony to be kept for a sign unto the rebellious sons; and thou shalt cause their complaints to cease from upon me, that they not die.

⁸ And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell me the dreams, I pray you.

¹⁶ And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me; God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.

²² Shall sheep and oxen be slain for them, to suffice them? Or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to suffice them? ²³ Then the LORD said unto Moses, Is the LORD’s hand waxed short? Thou shalt see now whether my word shall come to pass unto thee or not.

²⁴ Ye have been rebels against the LORD from the day that I knew you.

³² They angered him also at the waters of strife, so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes: ³³ Because they provoked his spirit to rebel, and he spoke it with his lips.

²⁸ But there is a God in the heavens who reveals the mysteries, and he has made known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall happen at the end of days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, is this: ²⁹ Thou, O king, in thy bed, thy thoughts rose up to know what should come to pass in the future; and he that reveals the mysteries showed thee what shall come to pass. ³⁰ And unto me this mystery has been revealed, not for any wisdom that is in me more than in all those living but that I notify the interpretation to the king and that thou might understand the thoughts of thy heart.

²² but I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother out of control shall be in danger of the judgment, and whosoever shall insult his brother shall be in danger of the council, but whosoever shall say, Thou art impious, shall be in danger of hell.

⁵⁴ And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, even as Elijah did? ⁵⁵ But he turned and rebuked them and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.

⁹ this man heard Paul speak, who steadfastly beholding him and perceiving that he had faith to be healed, ¹⁰ said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked. ¹¹ And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men. ¹² And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius because he was the chief speaker. ¹³ Then the priest of Jupiter, who was before their city, brought bulls and garlands unto the gates and would have done sacrifice unto them with the people. ¹⁴ Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of it, they rent their clothes and ran in among the people, crying out ¹⁵ and saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all the things that are therein,

³ Then Paul said unto him, God shall smite thee, thou whitewashed wall, for dost thou sit to judge me after the law and command me to be smitten contrary to the law? ⁴ And those that stood by said, Dost thou revile God’s high priest? ⁵ Then Paul said, I did not know, brethren, that he was the prince of the priests, for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people.

¹⁷ ¶ Therefore I have something to boast of in Christ Jesus, with regard to God. ¹⁸ For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ has not wrought by me, unto the obedience of the Gentiles, with word and with deed, ¹⁹ with power of signs and wonders, in virtue of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem and round about unto Illyricum, I have filled the entire area with the gospel of the Christ.

⁷ So then neither is he that plants anything, neither he that waters, but God that gives the increase.

²⁶ Be ye angry and sin not; let not the sun go down upon your wrath,

² For we all offend in many things. If any man offends not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to govern the whole body with restraint.

⁶ Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb, and thou shalt smite the rock, and water shall come out of it that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

¹ ¶ And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took each of them his censer and put fire therein and put incense thereon and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he had never commanded them.

⁸ Take the rod and gather the congregation together, thou and Aaron, thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes, and it shall give forth its water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock; so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.

¹³ And Samuel came to Saul, and Saul said unto him, Blessed be thou of the LORD; I have performed the commandment of the LORD. ¹⁴ Then Samuel said, What means then this bleating of the sheep in my ears and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?

¹⁹ Why then didst thou not hear the voice of the LORD but didst fly upon the spoil and didst evil in the sight of the LORD?

²⁴ ¶ Then Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned; for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD and thy words because I feared the people and consented unto their voice.

²¹ and he cried unto the man of God that came from Judah, saying, Thus hath the LORD said, Forasmuch as thou hast rebelled against the mouth of the LORD and hast not kept the commandment which the LORD thy God commanded thee, ²² but didst come back and hast eaten bread and drunk water in the place, of which the LORD did say to thee, Eat no bread and drink no water; thy carcase shall not come unto the sepulchre of thy fathers. ²³ ¶ And when he had eaten of the bread and after he had drunk, the prophet that had brought him back saddled an ass for him, ²⁴ and as he went, a lion met him by the way and slew him, and his carcase was cast in the way, and the ass stood by it, and the lion also stood by the carcase.

⁹ ¶ And when they came unto the threshingfloor of Chidon, Uzza put forth his hand to hold the ark, for the oxen stumbled. ¹⁰ And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzza, and he smote him because he had put his hand to the ark, and there he died before God.

² Then David said, The ark of God should not be brought except by the Levites, for the LORD has chosen them to carry the ark of God and to minister unto him perpetually.

¹³ for because ye did not do it thus at the first, the LORD our God made a breach upon us because we did not seek him according to his ordinance.

¹⁶ He brought streams also out of the rock and caused waters to run down like rivers.

⁵ ¶ I knew thee in the wilderness, in the dry land.

²⁰ teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and, behold, I am with you always even unto the end of the age. Amen.

⁴ and did all drink the same spiritual drink, for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them; and that Rock was the Christ.

²⁰ for the wrath of man does not work the righteousness of God.

³ ¶ Then Moses said unto Aaron, This is what the LORD spoke, saying, I will be sanctified in those that come near me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aaron was silent.

¹⁵ And if thou must deal thus with me, kill me, I pray thee, out of hand, if I have found grace in thy sight; and let me not see my wretchedness.

²¹ Then Moses said, The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand footmen, and thou hast said, I will give them flesh that they may eat a whole month! ²² Shall sheep and oxen be slain for them, to suffice them? Or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to suffice them?

²⁴ Aaron shall be gathered unto his peoples; for he shall not enter into the land which I have given unto the sons of Israel because ye were rebels to my word at the water of Meribah.

³⁷ Also the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, saying, Thou shalt not go in there either.

²³ And I besought the LORD at that time, saying, ²⁴ O Lord GOD, thou hast begun to show thy slave thy greatness and thy mighty hand; for what God is there in heaven or in earth that can do according to thy works and according to thy mighty acts? ²⁵ I pray thee, let me go over and see that good land that is beyond the Jordan, that goodly mountain and Lebanon. ²⁶ But the LORD was angry with me for your sakes and would not hear me, and the LORD said unto me, Let it suffice thee; speak no more unto me of this matter. ²⁷ Climb up into the top of Pisgah and lift up thine eyes westward and towards the Aquilon and towards the Negev and eastward and behold it with thine eyes, for thou shalt not go over this Jordan.

⁴⁹ Climb up into this mountain Abarim, unto Mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, that is over against Jericho, and behold the land of Canaan, which I give as inheritance unto the sons of Israel, ⁵⁰ and die in the mountain which thou shalt climb and be gathered unto thy peoples, as Aaron thy brother died in Mount Hor and was gathered unto his peoples, ⁵¹ because ye trespassed against me among the sons of Israel at the waters of Meribah-Kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin, because ye did not sanctify me in the midst of the sons of Israel.

⁴ And the LORD said unto him, This is the land which I swore unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed. I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over there.

² Moses, my slave, is dead; now, therefore, arise, pass this Jordan, thou and all this people, unto the land which I give to the sons of Israel.

²⁰ ¶ And when they arose early in the morning and while they were going forth into the wilderness of Tekoa, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe the LORD your God, and ye shall be secure; believe his prophets, and ye shall be prospered.

⁹ In the meantime the head of Ephraim shall be Samaria, and the head of Samaria, Remaliah’s son. If ye will not believe, surely ye shall not be established.

¹³ Sanctify the LORD of the hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.

⁴¹ I will accept you with your sweet savour when I have brought you out from among the peoples and gathered you out of the countries in which ye have been scattered; and I will be sanctified in you in the eyes of the Gentiles.

²³ And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the Gentiles, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the Gentiles shall know that I am the LORD, said the Lord GOD when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes.

¹⁰ Thus hath the Lord GOD said: It shall also come to pass in that day, that words shall rise up in thy heart, and thou shalt conceive an evil thought:

¹⁷ Then Jesus answered and said, O unfaithful and crooked generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I suffer you? Bring him here to me.

²⁰ And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unfaithfulness; for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove from here to yonder place, and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

²⁰ And, behold, thou shalt be dumb and not able to speak until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou didst not believe my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.

⁴⁵ And blessed is she that believed, for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.

¹⁷ For the law was given through Moses, but the grace and the truth of God came through Jesus, the Christ.

²⁰ he doubted not the promise of God, with unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God,

¹⁵ but sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and be ready always to respond to every man that asks you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and reverence,

⁷ And he called the name of the place Massah and Meribah because of the chiding of the sons of Israel and because they tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not?

⁸ ¶ And to Levi he said, Let thy Thummim and thy Urim be with thy holy one, whom thou didst prove at Massah and with whom thou didst strive at the waters of Meribah,

⁸ harden not your heart, as in the provocation and as in the day of trials in the wilderness

³² They angered him also at the waters of strife, so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes: ³³ Because they provoked his spirit to rebel, and he spoke it with his lips. ³⁴ ¶ They did not destroy the nations, concerning whom the LORD commanded them: ³⁵ But were mingled among the Gentiles and learned their works. ³⁶ And they served their idols, which were a snare unto them. ³⁷ Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils ³⁸ and shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan; and the land was polluted with blood. ³⁹ Thus they were defiled with their own works and went a whoring with their own inventions. ⁴⁰ Therefore was the wrath of the LORD kindled against his people, insomuch that he abhorred his own inheritance. ⁴¹ And he gave them into the hand of the Gentiles, and those that hated them ruled over them. ⁴² Their enemies oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand. ⁴³ He delivered them many times, but they rebelled at his counsel and were brought low for their iniquity. ⁴⁴ Nevertheless he would look upon their affliction and hear their cry ⁴⁵ and remember his covenant with them and repent according to the multitude of his mercies. ⁴⁶ He also caused those that carried them captives to have mercy upon them. ⁴⁷ Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the Gentiles, that we might lift up thy holy name, that we might glory in thy praise. ⁴⁸ Blessed be the LORD God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting; and let all the people say, Amen. ¹⁶ But the LORD of the hosts shall be exalted in judgment, and God, that is holy, shall be sanctified with righteousness.

¹⁶ and thou shalt come up against my people of Israel as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be at the end of the days, and I will bring thee upon my land, that the Gentiles may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes.

³ ¶ And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother unto the land of Seir, the country of Edom. ⁴ And he commanded them, saying, Thus shall ye speak unto my lord Esau: Thy slave Jacob saith thus, I have sojourned with Laban and stayed there until now;

³¹ ¶ And these are the kings that reigned in the land of Edom before any king reigned over the sons of Israel. ³² And Bela, the son of Beor, reigned in Edom, and the name of his city was Dinhabah. ³³ And Bela died, and Jobab, the son of Zerah of Bozrah, reigned in his stead. ³⁴ And Jobab died, and Husham of the land of Temani reigned in his stead. ³⁵ And Husham died, and Hadad, the son of Bedad, who smote Midian in the field of Moab, reigned in his stead; and the name of his city was Avith. ³⁶ And Hadad died, and Samlah of Masrekah reigned in his stead. ³⁷ And Samlah died, and Saul of Rehoboth by the river reigned in his stead. ³⁸ And Saul died, and Baalhanan, the son of Achbor, reigned in his stead. ³⁹ And Baalhanan, the son of Achbor, died, and Hadar reigned in his stead; and the name of his city was Pau; and his wife’s name was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, the daughter of Mezahab.

⁸ And Moses told his father-in-law all that the LORD had done unto Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel’s sake and all the travail that had come upon them in the way and how the LORD delivered them.

⁴ And command thou the people, saying, Ye are to pass through the border of your brethren, the sons of Esau, who dwell in Seir; and they shall be afraid of you; take care unto yourselves, therefore; ⁵ do not seek a fight with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a foot breadth because I have given Mount Seir unto Esau for an inheritance. ⁶ Ye shall buy food from them for money that ye may eat, and ye shall also buy water from them for money that ye may drink. ⁷ For the LORD thy God has blessed thee in all the works of thy hand; he knows thy walking through this great wilderness; these forty years the LORD thy God has been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing. ⁸ ¶ And when we passed by our brethren, the sons of Esau, who dwelt in Seir, through the way of the plain from Elath and from Eziongaber, we turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab. ⁹ And the LORD said unto me, Distress not the Moabites, neither contend with them in battle; for I will not give thee of their land for a possession because I have given Ar unto the sons of Lot for an inheritance. ¹⁰ (The Emims dwelt therein in times past, a people great, and many and tall as the Anakims, ¹¹ which also were accounted giants as the Anakims; but the Moabites call them Emims. ¹² The Horims also dwelt in Seir before time, but the sons of Esau inherited from them, and they destroyed them from before them and dwelt in their stead as Israel did in the land of his possession, which the LORD gave unto them.) ¹³ Now rise up, said I, and pass the brook Zered. And we went over the brook Zered. ¹⁴ And the days in which we came from Kadeshbarnea until we were come over the brook Zered, was thirty-eight years until all the generation of the men of war were wasted out from among the camp, as the LORD swore unto them. ¹⁵ For indeed the hand of the LORD was against them, to destroy them from among the camp until they were consumed. ¹⁶ So it came to pass, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people ¹⁷ that the LORD spoke unto me, saying, ¹⁸ Thou art to pass the border of Moab today unto Ar, ¹⁹ and when thou comest near over against the sons of Ammon, do not distress them nor meddle with them, for I will not give thee of the land of the sons of Ammon any possession because I have given it unto the sons of Lot for an inheritance. ²⁰ (That also was accounted a land of giants; giants dwelt therein in another time, and the Ammonites called them Zamzummims, ²¹ a people great and many and tall as the Anakims; whom the LORD destroyed before the Ammonites; and they inherited from them and dwelt in their stead, ²² as he did to the sons of Esau who dwelt in Seir when he destroyed the Horims from before them; and they inherited from them and dwelt in their stead even unto this day. ²³ And the Avims who dwelt in Hazerim, even unto Gaza, the Caphtorims, who came forth out of Caphtor, destroyed them and dwelt in their stead.) ²⁴ ¶ Rise ye up, take your journey, and pass the river Arnon; behold, I have given into thine hand Sihon, the Amorite king of Heshbon, and his land; begin, take possession and contend with him in battle. ²⁵ This day I will begin to put the dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the peoples that are under the whole heaven, who shall hear the report of thee, and shall tremble and be in anguish because of thee.

⁷ Thou shalt not abhor an Edomite, for he is thy brother; thou shalt not abhor an Egyptian because thou wast a stranger in his land.

⁹ And they said unto him, From very far lands thy slaves are come because of the name of the LORD thy God, for we have heard the fame of him and all that he did in Egypt

¹⁶ but Israel came up from Egypt and walked through the wilderness unto the Red sea and came to Kadesh. ¹⁷ Then Israel sent messengers unto the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray thee, pass through thy land. But the king of Edom would not hear them. And in like manner they sent unto the king of Moab, but he would not consent either; therefore Israel abode in Kadesh.

¹⁰ ¶ For thy violence against thy brother Jacob, shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever. ¹¹ In the day that thou didst stand on the other side, in the day that the strangers carried away captive his forces, and foreigners entered into his gates and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even thou wast as one of them. ¹² But thou should not have looked on the day of thy brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither should thou have rejoiced over the sons of Judah in the day they were lost; neither should thou have spoken proudly in the day of distress.

² I have loved you, said the LORD. Yet ye say, In what hast thou loved us? Was not Esau Jacob’s brother? said the LORD; yet I loved Jacob,

¹³ Then he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs and shall serve them, and they shall afflict them four hundred years;

⁶ And they took their cattle and their goods which they had gotten in the land of Canaan and came into Egypt, Jacob and all his seed with him,

¹¹ Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with their burdens. And they built the supply cities for Pharaoh: Pithom and Raamses. ¹² But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew, so much that they loathed the sons of Israel. ¹³ And the Egyptians made the sons of Israel serve with rigor, ¹⁴ and they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, making mortar and brick and in all manner of service in the field; all their service, in which they made them serve, was with rigor.

¹⁶ and he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women and see the sex, if it is a son, then ye shall kill him; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live.

²² Then Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall give them their lives.

¹⁴ And the officers of the sons of Israel, whom Pharaoh’s taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and they demanded, Why have ye not fulfilled your quotas in making brick both yesterday and today, as until now?

⁴⁰ Now the time that the sons of Israel dwelt in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years.

¹³ Is it a small thing that thou hast brought us up out of a land that flowed with milk and honey to make us die in the wilderness, but thou must also make thyself lord to rule over us?

⁶ and the Egyptians mistreated us and afflicted us and laid upon us hard bondage.

¹⁵ So Jacob went down into Egypt and died, he and our fathers,

¹⁹ The same dealt subtly with our kindred and mistreated our fathers so that they exposed their babies to death, to the end that the generation would cease.

²³ ¶ And it came to pass in process of time that the king of Egypt died, and the sons of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God from their bondage. ²⁴ And God heard their groaning and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

² And the Angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush; and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. ³ Then Moses said, I will now turn aside and see this great vision, why the bush is not burnt. ⁴ And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. ⁵ And he said, Do not come near; take off thy shoes from thy feet, for the place upon which thou dost stand is holy ground. ⁶ Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses covered his face, for he was afraid to look upon God. ⁷ ¶ And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows; ⁸ and I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land unto a good and broad land, unto a land flowing with milk and honey, unto the places of the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite. ⁹ Therefore, behold, the cry of the sons of Israel has now come before me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them.

⁵ And likewise I have heard the groaning of the sons of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage, and I have remembered my covenant.

¹⁰ ¶ And when Pharaoh drew near, the sons of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they feared greatly, and the sons of Israel cried out unto the LORD.

¹⁹ And the angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and likewise the pillar of cloud went from before their face and stood behind them.

²⁰ ¶ Behold, I send the Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.

² (And I will send an angel before thee; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite.)

¹ ¶ And when King Arad, the Canaanite, who dwelt toward the Negev, heard tell that Israel came by the way of the sentinels; then he fought against Israel and took some of them prisoners.

²² Let me pass through thy land; we will not turn into the fields or into the vineyards; we will not drink of the waters of the wells; but we will go along by the king’s high way until we are past thy borders. ²³ But Sihon would not allow Israel to pass through his border; instead Sihon gathered all his people together and went out against Israel into the wilderness; and he came to Jahaz and fought against Israel. ²⁴ And Israel smote him with the edge of the sword and possessed his land from Arnon unto Jabbok, even unto the sons of Ammon, for the border of the sons of Ammon was strong.

¹ ¶ Then we turned and took our journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea, as the LORD had said unto me; and we went around Mount Seir many days ² until the LORD spoke unto me, saying, ³ Ye have gone around this mountain long enough; return unto the Aquilon. ⁴ And command thou the people, saying, Ye are to pass through the border of your brethren, the sons of Esau, who dwell in Seir; and they shall be afraid of you; take care unto yourselves, therefore;

²⁷ Let me pass through thy land; I will go along by the high way; I will neither turn unto the right hand nor to the left.

²⁹ (as the sons of Esau, who dwell in Seir, and the Moabites, who dwell in Ar, did unto me) until I shall pass the Jordan into the land which the LORD our God gives us.

³⁸ And a mixed multitude went up also with them and many sheep and cows.

⁶ Ye shall buy food from them for money that ye may eat, and ye shall also buy water from them for money that ye may drink.

²⁸ Thou shalt sell me food for money, that I may eat, and give me water for money, that I may drink; I will only pass through on my feet

⁴¹ ¶ And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him, and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then I will slay my brother Jacob.

⁶ And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to thy brother Esau, and also he comes to meet thee, and four hundred men with him.

¹⁸ And Edom replied unto him, Thou shalt not pass by me lest I come out against thee with the sword.

¹⁷ Then Israel sent messengers unto the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray thee, pass through thy land. But the king of Edom would not hear them. And in like manner they sent unto the king of Moab, but he would not consent either; therefore Israel abode in Kadesh.

²⁰ But Sihon did not trust Israel to pass through his border; but Sihon gathered all his people together and pitched camp in Jahaz and fought against Israel.

⁷ I am for peace; but when I speak, they are for war.

⁵ Because thou hast had perpetual enmities and hast scattered the sons of Israel to the force of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the extremely evil time: ⁶ therefore, as I live, said the Lord GOD, I will prepare thee unto blood, and blood shall pursue thee: and if thou dost not hate blood, blood shall pursue thee. ⁷ And I will make Mount Seir waste and solitary and cut off from him, he that passes out and him that returns. ⁸ And I will fill his mountains with his dead; and in thy hills and in thy valleys, and in all thy rivers, they shall fall that are slain with the sword. ⁹ I will make thee perpetual desolations, and thy cities shall never be restored; and ye shall know that I am the LORD. ¹⁰ ¶ Because thou hast said, These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will possess them, whereas the LORD was there. ¹¹ Therefore, as I live, said the Lord GOD, I will even do according to thine anger and according to thine envy which thou hast used out of thy enmity against them; and I shall be known in them when I judge thee.

¹¹ Thus hath the LORD said: For three transgressions of Edom and for the fourth, I will not convert her because she pursued her brother with the sword and cast off all mercy, and with her anger she stole from him perpetually, and she kept her wrath for ever:

¹⁰ ¶ For thy violence against thy brother Jacob, shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever. ¹¹ In the day that thou didst stand on the other side, in the day that the strangers carried away captive his forces, and foreigners entered into his gates and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even thou wast as one of them. ¹² But thou should not have looked on the day of thy brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither should thou have rejoiced over the sons of Judah in the day they were lost; neither should thou have spoken proudly in the day of distress. ¹³ Thou should not have entered into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity; thou should not have looked on their affliction in the day of their calamity, nor have laid hands on their substance in the day of their calamity; ¹⁴ neither should thou have stood in the crossway, to kill those of his that did escape; neither should thou have delivered up those of his that remained in the day of distress. ¹⁵ For the day of the LORD is near upon all the Gentiles: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee; thy reward shall return upon thine own head.

⁴ And command thou the people, saying, Ye are to pass through the border of your brethren, the sons of Esau, who dwell in Seir; and they shall be afraid of you; take care unto yourselves, therefore; ⁵ do not seek a fight with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a foot breadth because I have given Mount Seir unto Esau for an inheritance. ⁶ Ye shall buy food from them for money that ye may eat, and ye shall also buy water from them for money that ye may drink. ⁷ For the LORD thy God has blessed thee in all the works of thy hand; he knows thy walking through this great wilderness; these forty years the LORD thy God has been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing. ⁸ ¶ And when we passed by our brethren, the sons of Esau, who dwelt in Seir, through the way of the plain from Elath and from Eziongaber, we turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab.

¹⁸ Then they went along through the wilderness and went around the land of Edom and the land of Moab and came by the side of the rising of the sun to the land of Moab; they pitched their camp on the other side of Arnon and did not enter within the border of Moab, for Arnon was the border of Moab.

²⁴ If Chemosh thy god should expel anyone for you, would thou not possess it? So whoever the LORD our God shall drive out from before us, them will we possess.

²⁶ ¶ And they went and came to Moses and to Aaron and to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran to Kadesh and brought back word unto them and unto all the congregation and showed them the fruit of the land.

¹ ¶ Then came the sons of Israel, even the whole congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month; and the people abode in Kadesh; and Miriam died there and was buried there.

¹⁴ ¶ And Moses sent ambassadors from Kadesh unto the king of Edom, Thus saith thy brother Israel, Thou knowest all the travail that has befallen us:

⁴ ¶ And they journeyed from Mount Hor by the way of the Red sea, to go around the land of Edom, and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way.

³⁶ And they removed from Eziongaber and pitched in the wilderness of Zin, which is Kadesh. ³⁷ And they removed from Kadesh and pitched in Mount Hor, in the edge of the land of Edom. ³⁸ And Aaron, the priest, went up into Mount Hor at the commandment of the LORD and died there in the fortieth year, after the sons of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the first day of the fifth month.

⁷ And this shall be your north border: from the great sea ye shall point out for you Mount Hor.

¹⁹ And to the south side southward from Tamar even to the waters of strife; from Kadesh and the river to the great sea. And this shall be the south side southward.

²⁸ And next to the border of Gad, at the south side southward, the border shall be from Tamar unto the waters of strife, and from Kadesh, and the river unto the great sea.

³⁷ And they removed from Kadesh and pitched in Mount Hor, in the edge of the land of Edom.

¹⁵ And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.

⁸ Then Abraham expired and died in a good old age, an old man and full of years, and was gathered to his people.

¹⁷ And these are the years of the life of Ishmael, one hundred thirty-seven years; and Ishmael expired and died and was gathered unto his people.

²⁹ And Isaac expired and died and was gathered unto his people, being old and full of days, and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.

²⁹ And he charged them and said unto them, I am to be gathered unto my people; bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron, the Hittite,

³³ And when Jacob had made an end of commanding his sons, he gathered up his feet into the bed and expired and was gathered unto his people.

²⁷ According to the word of Aaron and his sons shall be all the ministry of the sons of the Gershonites, in all their burdens and in all their service; and ye shall appoint unto them in charge all their burdens.

¹⁰ And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? ¹¹ Then Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice; and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also. ¹² And the LORD spoke unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the sons of Israel, therefore, ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.

¹³ And after thou hast seen it, thou also shalt be gathered unto thy peoples, as Aaron thy brother was gathered.

² Avenge the sons of Israel upon the Midianites; afterward thou shalt be gathered unto thy peoples.

⁵⁰ and die in the mountain which thou shalt climb and be gathered unto thy peoples, as Aaron thy brother died in Mount Hor and was gathered unto his peoples,

¹⁰ And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers, and there arose another generation after them which did not know the LORD nor the work which he had done to Israel.

²⁸ Behold, I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered to thy grave in peace; neither shall thy eyes see all the evil that I will bring upon this place and upon the inhabitants of the same. So they brought the king word again.

³⁸ And Aaron, the priest, went up into Mount Hor at the commandment of the LORD and died there in the fortieth year, after the sons of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the first day of the fifth month. ³⁹ And Aaron was one hundred and twenty-three years old when he died in Mount Hor.

²⁹ And the holy garments of Aaron shall be his sons’ after him, to be anointed with them and to be consecrated with them. ³⁰ And for seven days the priest of his sons, who in his stead shall come into the tabernacle of the testimony, shall put them on to serve in the sanctuary.

²¹ And I will clothe him with thy robe and strengthen him with thy girdle, and I will commit thy government into his hand, and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah. ²² And the key of the house of David I will lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and no one shall shut; and he shall shut, and no one shall open.

¹¹ ¶ If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people received the law), what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec and not be called after the order of Aaron?

²³ And the others, truly, were many priests because they were not able to continue by reason of death: ²⁴ but this man, because he continues forever, has the intransmissible priesthood.

²⁶ and cause Aaron to be stripped of his garments and put them upon Eleazar, his son; for Aaron shall be gathered unto his people and shall die there.

¹⁶ Let the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation, ¹⁷ who may go out before them, and who may go in before them, and who may lead them out and who may bring them in that the congregation of the LORD not be as sheep without a shepherd. ¹⁸ And the LORD said unto Moses, Take Joshua, the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay thine hand upon him ¹⁹ and set him before Eleazar, the priest, and before all the congregation and give him a charge in their presence. ²⁰ And thou shalt put some of thy splendour upon him that all the congregation of the sons of Israel may hear him. ²¹ And he shall stand before Eleazar, the priest, whom he shall consult in the judgment of the Urim before the LORD; at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he and all the sons of Israel with him, even all the congregation. ²² And Moses did as the LORD commanded him, and he took Joshua and set him before Eleazar, the priest, and before all the congregation, ²³ and he laid his hands upon him and gave him a charge, as the LORD had commanded by the hand of Moses.

³⁸ And Aaron, the priest, went up into Mount Hor at the commandment of the LORD and died there in the fortieth year, after the sons of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the first day of the fifth month. ³⁹ And Aaron was one hundred and twenty-three years old when he died in Mount Hor. ⁴⁰ And King Arad, the Canaanite, who dwelt in the Negev in the land of Canaan, heard how the sons of Israel had come. ⁴¹ And they departed from Mount Hor and pitched in Zalmonah. ⁴² And they departed from Zalmonah and pitched in Punon. ⁴³ And they departed from Punon and pitched in Oboth. ⁴⁴ And they departed from Oboth and pitched in Ijeabarim, in the border of Moab. ⁴⁵ And they departed from Iim and pitched in Dibongad. ⁴⁶ And they removed from Dibongad and encamped in Almondiblathaim. ⁴⁷ And they removed from Almondiblathaim and pitched in the mountains of Abarim, before Nebo. ⁴⁸ And they departed from the mountains of Abarim and pitched in the plains of Moab by Jordan of Jericho. ⁴⁹ Finally they pitched by the Jordan, from Bethjesimoth even unto Abelshittim in the plains of Moab.

⁶ (After this, the sons of Israel took their journey from Beeroth of the sons of Jaakan to Mosera; there Aaron died, and there he was buried; and Eleazar, his son, received the priesthood in his stead.

⁷ And Moses called unto Joshua and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of a good courage, for thou shalt enter in with this people to the land which the LORD has sworn unto their fathers to give them, and thou shalt cause them to inherit it. ⁸ And the LORD is he that doth go before thee; he will be with thee; he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee; fear not, neither be dismayed.

⁴⁹ Climb up into this mountain Abarim, unto Mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, that is over against Jericho, and behold the land of Canaan, which I give as inheritance unto the sons of Israel, ⁵⁰ and die in the mountain which thou shalt climb and be gathered unto thy peoples, as Aaron thy brother died in Mount Hor and was gathered unto his peoples,

⁵ ¶ So Moses, the slave of the LORD, died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD.

⁹ ¶ And Joshua, the son of Nun, was full of the Spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him; and the sons of Israel hearkened unto him and did as the LORD commanded Moses.

¹¹ Now, my son, the LORD be with thee, and be thou prospered and build the house of the LORD thy God, as he has said of thee. ¹² Only the LORD give thee wisdom and understanding and give thee commandments for Israel, and that thou keep the law of the LORD thy God.

¹⁷ ¶ David, likewise, commanded all the princes of Israel to help Solomon, his son, saying,

⁵ and of all my sons (for the LORD has given me many sons) he has chosen Solomon, my son, to sit upon the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel. ⁶ And he said unto me, Solomon, thy son, he shall build my house and my courts, for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father. ⁷ Moreover, I will establish his kingdom for ever if he is constant to do my commandments and my judgments as at this day. ⁸ Now, therefore, in the sight of all Israel the congregation of the LORD and in the audience of our God, keep and seek for all the commandments of the LORD your God, that ye may possess this good land and leave it for an inheritance for your sons after you for ever. ⁹ And thou, Solomon, my son, know thou the God of thy father and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing soul, for the LORD searches all hearts and understands all the imaginations of the thoughts. If thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.

²⁵ And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more. ²⁶ Therefore I take you to record this day that I am pure from the blood of everyone. ²⁷ For I have not refrained from declaring unto you the full counsel of God. ²⁸ Take heed therefore unto yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has placed you as bishops to feed the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of God, which he has purchased with his own blood. ²⁹ For I know this, that after my departing, grievous wolves shall enter in among you, not sparing the flock.

²⁴ but this man, because he continues forever, has the intransmissible priesthood. ²⁵ Therefore he is able also to save to the uttermost those that come unto God by him, seeing he ever lives to make intercession for them.

¹⁵ I will also make sure with diligence that after my decease ye might remember these things.

¹⁰ And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters he called Seas; and God saw that it was good.

⁸ And the sons of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days; so the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were fulfilled.

²⁴ His slaves, therefore, took him out of that chariot and put him in the second chariot that he had; and they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died and was buried in the sepulchres of his fathers. And all Judah and Jerusalem mourned for Josiah. ²⁵ And Jeremiah lamented for Josiah; and all the singing men and the singing women spoke of Josiah in their lamentations to this day and made them an ordinance in Israel, which are written in the lamentations.

² And devout men carried Stephen to his burial and made great lamentation over him.
