³³ ¶ Hear another parable: There was a certain husband of a house who planted a vineyard and hedged it round about and dug a winepress in it and built a tower and let it out to husbandmen and went into a far country,

¹⁵ So I took the principals of your tribes, wise men and experts, and made them princes over you, princes over thousands and princes over hundreds and princes over fifties and princes over tens and officers among your tribes. ¹⁶ And I charged your judges at that time, saying, Hear the causes between your brethren and judge righteously between every man and his brother and the stranger that is with him. ¹⁷ Ye shall not respect persons in judgment, but ye shall hear the small as well as the great; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man, for the judgment is God’s; and the cause that is too hard for you, bring it unto me, and I will hear it.

¹⁸ ¶ Judges and officers shalt thou make thee in all the gates of thy cities, which the LORD thy God shall give thee throughout thy tribes, and they shall judge the people with just (and righteous) judgment.

⁹ and thou shalt come unto the priests, the Levites, and unto the judge that shall be in those days and enquire, and they shall show thee the word of judgment. ¹⁰ And thou shalt do according to the word which those of that place which the LORD shall choose shall show thee; and thou shalt observe to do according to all that they shall show thee. ¹¹ According to the word of the law which they shall show thee and according to the judgment which they shall tell thee, thou shalt do; thou shalt not decline from the word which they shall show thee, to the right hand nor to the left. ¹² And the man that will act presumptuously and will not hearken unto the priest that stands to minister there before the LORD thy God, or unto the judge, even that man shall die; and thou shalt put away the evil from Israel.

⁸ ¶ And to Levi he said, Let thy Thummim and thy Urim be with thy holy one, whom thou didst prove at Massah and with whom thou didst strive at the waters of Meribah, ⁹ who said unto his father and to his mother, I have not seen them; neither did he acknowledge his brethren nor know his own children; therefore, they shall keep thy word and guard thy covenant. ¹⁰ They shall teach Jacob thy judgments and Israel thy law; they shall put incense before thy nostrils and a perfect sacrifice upon thine altar.

¹⁹ Then he said, Hear thou, therefore, the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne and all the host of the heavens standing by him on his right hand and on his left.

⁸ ¶ Thou hast brought a vine out of Egypt; thou hast cast out the Gentiles and planted it. ⁹ Thou didst prepare room before it and didst cause it to take deep root, and it filled the earth. ¹⁰ The hills were covered with the shadow of it, and its boughs were like the cedars of God. ¹¹ She sent out her boughs unto the sea and her branches unto the river. ¹² Why hast thou then broken down her hedges, so that all those who pass by the way pluck her? ¹³ The boar out of the wood wastes it, and the wild beast of the field devours it. ¹⁴ Return, we beseech thee, O God of the hosts: look down from heaven and behold and visit this vine ¹⁵ and the vineyard which thy right hand has planted and the branch that thou didst make strong for thyself. ¹⁶ It is burned with fire; it is cut down; they perish at the rebuke of thy countenance.

¹¹ Solomon had a vineyard at Baalhamon; he let out the vineyard unto keepers; for its fruit each one was to bring a thousand pieces of silver. ¹² My vineyard, which is mine, is before me; the thousand pieces shall be thine, O Solomon, and two hundred for those that keep the fruit.

¹⁰ ¶ Hear the word of the LORD, ye princes of Sodom; give ear unto the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah.

¹ ¶ Now will I sing to my well-beloved a song of my beloved touching his vineyard. My well-beloved had a vineyard in the horn of the sons of oil; ² and he had fenced it and gathered out the stones thereof and planted it with the choicest vine and built a tower in the midst of it and also made a winepress therein; and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes. ³ And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem, and men of Judah, judge, I pray you, between me and my vineyard. ⁴ What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? Therefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, did it bring forth wild grapes?

²¹ Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, a seed of Truth, all of her; how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?

³ Therefore thou shalt say, Hear ye the word of the LORD, O kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem. Thus saith the LORD of the hosts, God of Israel: Behold, I bring evil upon this place, such that whoever hears of it, his ears shall tingle.

¹ ¶ Hear the word of the LORD, ye sons of Israel; for the LORD contends with the inhabitants of the land because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the earth.

⁴ And ye shall know that I have sent this commandment unto you, that my covenant might be with Levi, said the LORD of the hosts. ⁵ My covenant was with him of life and peace; and I gave them to him for the fear with which he feared me and was broken before my name. ⁶ The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace and righteousness and turned many away from iniquity. ⁷ For the priest’s lips keep wisdom, and they seek the law at his mouth; for he is an angel of the LORD of the hosts. ⁸ But ye are departed out of the way; ye have caused many to stumble in the law; ye have corrupted the covenant of Levi, said the LORD of the hosts. ⁹ Therefore I have also made you contemptible and base before all the people, according as ye have not kept my ways, but have been partial in the law.

¹⁸ Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.

²⁸ ¶ But what do you think? A certain man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, Son, go work today in my vineyard.

² saying, The scribes and the Pharisees have sat down in Moses’ seat;

¹⁴ ¶ For it is like a man travelling into a far country, who called his own slaves and delivered unto them his goods. ¹⁵ And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each one according to his faculty, and straightway took his journey.

¹ ¶ And he began to speak unto them by parables. A certain man planted a vineyard and set a hedge about it and dug a place for the winefat and built a tower and let it out to husbandmen and went far away. ² And at the season he sent to the husbandmen a slave that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruit of the vineyard. ³ And taking him, they beat him and sent him away empty. ⁴ And again he sent unto them another slave, and casting stones at him, they wounded him in the head and sent him away shamefully handled. ⁵ And again he sent another, and him they killed and many others, beating some and killing some. ⁶ Having yet therefore one son, his wellbeloved, he sent him also last unto them, saying, They will reverence my son. ⁷ But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the place shall be ours. ⁸ And taking hold of him, they killed him and cast him out of the vineyard. ⁹ What, therefore, shall the lord of the vineyard do? He shall come and destroy those husbandmen and shall give his vineyard unto others. ¹⁰ And have ye not read this scripture: The stone which the builders rejected is placed as the head of the corner; ¹¹ This was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes? ¹² And they sought to lay hold on him but feared the multitude, for they understood that he had spoken the parable against them, and leaving him, they went away.

³⁴ As the man who, taking a far journey, left his house and gave his estate to his slaves and to each one his responsibility and commanded the porter to watch.

¹² He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.

⁹ ¶ And he began to speak this parable to the people: A certain man planted a vineyard and let it out to husbandmen and went into a far country for a long time. ¹⁰ And at the season he sent a slave to the husbandmen that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard, but the husbandmen beat him and sent him away empty. ¹¹ And again he sent another slave, and they beat him also and treated him shamefully and sent him away empty. ¹² And again he sent a third, and they wounded him also and cast him out. ¹³ Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; it may be they will reverence him when they see him. ¹⁴ But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir; come, let us kill him that the inheritance may be ours. ¹⁵ So they cast him out of the vineyard and killed him. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do unto them? ¹⁶ He shall come and destroy these husbandmen and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, May it not be! ¹⁷ But he beheld them and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner? ¹⁸ Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken, but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder. ¹⁹ And the princes of the priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him, for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them; but they feared the people.

¹ ¶ I AM the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
