⁴⁹ And, behold, I shall send the promise of my Father upon you, but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem until ye are endued with power from on high.

¹⁵ until the spirit is poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness is turned into a fruitful field, and the fruitful field is counted for a forest.

³ For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty and floods upon the dry ground; I will pour my spirit upon thy seed and my blessing upon thine offspring: ⁴ And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses.

²⁸ ¶ And it shall come to pass after this that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: ²⁹ and even upon the slaves and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. ³⁰ And I will show wonders in the heaven and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. ³¹ The sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the great and the terrible day of the LORD comes. ³² And it shall come to pass that whoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall escape: for in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be salvation, as the LORD has said, and in those who are left, to whom the LORD shall have called.

¹⁶ and I will ask the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever, ¹⁷ even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive because it does not see him, or know him; but ye know him, for he dwells with you and shall be in you.

²⁶ But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all the things that I have said unto you.

²⁶ ¶ But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceeds from the Father, he shall testify of me;

⁷ ¶ Nevertheless I tell you the truth: It is expedient for you that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. ⁸ And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin and of righteousness and of judgment: ⁹ of sin, because they do not believe in me; ¹⁰ of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; ¹¹ of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. ¹² I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. ¹³ Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth, for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak, and he will cause you to know the things which are to come. ¹⁴ He shall clarify me, for he shall take of that which is mine and shall cause you to know it. ¹⁵ All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he shall take of that which is mine and shall cause you to know it. ¹⁶ ¶ A little while, and ye shall not see me; and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.

⁴ and gathering them together, he commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, Which, he said, ye have heard of me.

⁸ But ye shall receive the virtue of the Holy Spirit which shall come upon you, and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem and in all Judaea and in Samaria and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

¹ ¶ And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. ² And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. ³ And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. ⁴ And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. ⁵ ¶ (And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.) ⁶ Now at this sound, the multitude came together and were confounded because each one heard them speak in his own tongue. ⁷ And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these who speak Galilaeans? ⁸ And how do we hear each one speak in our own tongue, with which we were brought up? ⁹ Parthians and Medes and Elamites and the dwellers in Mesopotamia and in Judaea and Cappadocia, in Pontus and Asia, ¹⁰ Phrygia and Pamphylia, in Egypt and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, ¹¹ Cretes and Arabians, we hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. ¹² And they were all amazed and were in doubt, saying one to another, What does this mean? ¹³ Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine. ¹⁴ ¶ Then Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea and all ye that dwell in Jerusalem, be this known unto you and hearken to my words; ¹⁵ for these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. ¹⁶ But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel: ¹⁷ And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams; ¹⁸ and for certain on my slaves and on my handmaids I will pour out in those days of my Spirit, and they shall prophesy; ¹⁹ and I will show wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath: blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke; ²⁰ the sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood before that great and notable day of the Lord shall come; ²¹ and it shall come to pass that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
