²⁰ Likewise also he took and gave them the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.

⁸ Then Moses took the blood and sprinkled it on the people and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD has made with you concerning all these words.

³¹ Behold, the days come, said the LORD, in which I will make a new covenant with the house of Jacob and with the house of Judah:

¹¹ As for thee also, by the blood of thy covenant I have taken thy prisoners out of the pit in which there is no water.

²⁸ for this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

¹⁶ The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the fellowship of the blood of the Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the fellowship of the body of the Christ? ¹⁷ For one loaf of bread means that many are one body, for we are all partakers of that one loaf. ¹⁸ Behold Israel after the flesh: are not those who eat of the sacrifices participants of the altar? ¹⁹ What do I say then? that the idol is anything or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is anything? ²⁰ But I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons, and not to God; and I would not that ye should be participants of demons. ²¹ Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; ye cannot be participants of the Lord’s table and of the table of demons.

²⁵ After the same manner also he took the cup, after he had eaten supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood; do this each time that ye drink, in remembrance of me.

⁶ ¶ who also has made us able ministers of the new testament, not of the letter, but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

⁶ ¶ but now a more excellent ministry is his, in that he is the mediator of a better testament, which was established upon better promises. ⁷ For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place should have been sought for the second. ⁸ For finding fault with them, he said, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new testament with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, ⁹ not according to the testament that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, because they did not continue in my testament, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. ¹⁰ For this is the testament that I will ordain to the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord: I will give my laws into their soul and write them upon their hearts, and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: ¹¹ and no one shall teach his neighbour nor anyone his brother, saying, Know the Lord, for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. ¹² For I will reconcile their iniquities and their sins, and their iniquities I will remember no more. ¹³ In that he says, New, he has made the first old. Now that which decays and waxes old is ready to vanish away.

¹⁵ ¶ And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, so that death intervening for the redemption of the rebellions that took place under the first testament, those who are called might receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.

¹⁷ For a testament is confirmed by the death: otherwise it is not valid as long as the testator lives.

²⁴ and to Jesus, the mediator of the new testament and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaks better than that of Abel.

²⁰ Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the eternal testament,
