⁴⁵ Then he shall break down the house, its stones, and its timbers, and all the mortar of the house; and he shall carry them forth out of the city into an unclean place.

⁶ But if ye shall obstinately turn from following me, ye or your sons, and will not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods and worship them, ⁷ I will cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them, and this house, which I have sanctified unto my name, I will cast out of my sight, and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all peoples; ⁸ and at this house, which was high, any one that passes by it shall be astonished and shall hiss, and they shall say, Why has the LORD done thus unto this land and to this house? ⁹ And they shall answer, Because they forsook the LORD their God, who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt and have taken hold upon other gods and have worshipped them and served them; for this the LORD has brought upon them all this evil.

²⁷ And they broke down the image of Baal and broke down the house of Baal and made it a latrine unto this day.

²⁰ And the LORD rejected all the seed of Israel and afflicted them and delivered them into the hand of spoilers until he had cast them out of his presence. ²¹ For he rent Israel from the house of David, and they made Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, king; and Jeroboam drove Israel from following the LORD and made them commit a great sin. ²² For the sons of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did; they did not depart from them ²³ until the LORD removed Israel out of his sight, as he had said by all his slaves the prophets. So was Israel carried away out of their own land to Assyria unto this day.

⁴ He removed the high places and broke the images and cut down the groves and broke in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made; for unto those days, the sons of Israel burned incense to it; and he called it Nehushtan. {Heb. a thing of brass}

⁴ And the city was broken up, and all the men of war fled by night by the way of the gate between the two walls, which is by the king’s garden, with the Chaldees round about the city; and they went by the way of the plain. ⁵ And the army of the Chaldees pursued after the king and overtook him in the plains of Jericho, after all his army had been scattered from him. ⁶ So they took the king and brought him up to the king of Babylon to Riblah, and they sentenced him. ⁷ And they slew the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes and put out the eyes of Zedekiah and bound him with fetters of brass and carried him to Babylon. ⁸ ¶ And in the fifth month, on the seventh of the month, which was the year nineteen of King Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, Nebuzaradan, captain of the guard, a slave of the king of Babylon, came to Jerusalem. ⁹ And he burnt the house of the LORD and the king’s house and all the houses of Jerusalem, and every great man’s house he burnt with fire. ¹⁰ And all the army of the Chaldees, that were with the captain of the guard, broke down the walls of Jerusalem round about. ¹¹ Now the rest of the people that were left in the city and the fugitives that fell away to the king of Babylon, with the remnant of the multitude, Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, carried away. ¹² But the captain of the guard left of the poor of the land to be vinedressers and husbandmen.

²⁵ But in the seventh month, Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama of the royal seed, came and ten men with him and smote Gedaliah, that he died, and the Jews and the Chaldees that were with him at Mizpah. ²⁶ Then all the people, both small and great, and the captains of the armies, arose and went to Egypt, for they were afraid of the Chaldees.

¹³ and burned the house of the LORD and the king’s house and all the houses of Jerusalem, and every great house he burned with fire:

⁴ Then take of them again and cast them into the midst of the fire and burn them in the fire; for thereof shall a fire come forth into all the house of Israel.

⁷ But when the king heard of this, he became angry and sent forth his armies and destroyed those murderers and burned up their city.

² And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another that shall not be thrown down.

⁷ What then? Israel has not obtained that which he seeks after; but the elect have obtained it, and the rest were blinded ⁸ (according as it is written, God has given them the spirit of anguish, eyes with which they do not see and ears with which they do not hear) unto this day. ⁹ And David says, Let their table be turned into a snare and a net and a stumblingblock and a recompense unto them; ¹⁰ Let their eyes be darkened that they may not see, and bow down their back always. ¹¹ I say then, Have they stumbled in such a manner that they should fall completely? No, in no wise; but rather through their fall, saving health is come unto the Gentiles to provoke them unto jealousy.

² But leave out the court which is within the temple and measure it not, for it is given unto the Gentiles, and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty-two months.
