¹ ¶ Then Eliphaz, the Temanite, answered and said, ² Can a man be profitable unto God? For he that is wise is profitable unto himself. ³ Is it any pleasure to the Almighty that thou art justified? Or is it gain to him that thou makest thy ways perfect? ⁴ Will he reprove thee or will he enter with thee into judgment because he fears thee? ⁵ ¶ Certainly thy wickedness is great and thine iniquities have no end. ⁶ For thou didst take a pledge from thy brother without cause and stripped the naked of their clothing. ⁷ Thou didst not give water to drink to the weary, and thou hast withheld bread from the hungry. ⁸ But the man of means had the earth; and the honourable man dwelt in it. ⁹ Thou hast sent the widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken. ¹⁰ Therefore, snares are round about thee, and sudden fear troubles thee ¹¹ or darkness, that thou canst not see, and abundance of waters cover thee. ¹² Is not God in the height of the heavens? Behold the height of the stars, how high they are! ¹³ And thou shalt say, What does God know? How can he judge through the darkness? ¹⁴ Thick clouds are his hiding place, and he does not see; and he walks in the circuit of heaven. ¹⁵ ¶ Dost thou desire to keep the old way which wicked men have trodden? ¹⁶ Who were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood. ¹⁷ Who said unto God, Depart from us; and what can the Almighty do unto us? ¹⁸ He had filled their houses with good things. Therefore, the counsel of the wicked is far from me. ¹⁹ The righteous shall see it and be glad; and the innocent laughs them to scorn. ²⁰ Whereas our substance was not cut down, when the fire had consumed the rest of them. ²¹ ¶ Make up thy friendship now with him, and thou shalt have peace; thereby good shall come unto thee. ²² Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart. ²³ If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tent; ²⁴ then thou shalt lay up gold as dust and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks. ²⁵ And the Almighty shall be thy defence, and thou shalt have plenty of silver. ²⁶ For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty and shalt lift up thy face unto God. ²⁷ Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows. ²⁸ Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee; and the light shall shine upon thy ways. ²⁹ When others are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person. ³⁰ He shall deliver the island of the innocent; and in the pureness of thine hands thou shalt be kept.

¹³ to keep the commandments of the LORD and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?

¹⁵ Who is the Almighty that we should serve him? And what profit should we have if we pray unto him?

⁶ If thou dost sin, what hast thou done against him? Or if thy rebellion is multiplied, what doest thou unto him? ⁷ If thou art righteous, what shalt thou give him? Or what shall he receive of thine hand? ⁸ Thy wickedness shall hurt a man as thou art; and thy righteousness shall profit the son of man.

² I said unto the LORD, Thou art my goodness: I have no goodness apart from thee;

¹³ ¶ Blessed is the man that has found wisdom and who brings to light intelligence, ¹⁴ for the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver and the fruits thereof more than fine gold. ¹⁵ She is more precious than precious stones, and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. ¹⁶ Length of days is in her right hand and in her left hand riches and honour. ¹⁷ Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. ¹⁸ She is a tree of life to those that lay hold upon her, and blessed is every one that retains her.

⁷ Wisdom is the principal thing, therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. ⁸ Grow in wisdom, and she shall promote thee; she shall bring thee to honour when thou hast embraced her. ⁹ She shall give to thine head an increase of grace; a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.

¹² If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself; but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.

¹¹ ¶ Knowledge is good with an inheritance and is the excellency of those that see the sun. ¹² For knowledge is a defence, and money is a defence; but wisdom excels in that it gives life to those that have it.

²⁹ Therefore if thy right eye should bring thee occasion to stumble, pluck it out and cast it from thee; for it is better for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

¹⁰ So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable slaves: we have done that which was our duty to do.

⁷ Do not deceive yourselves; God is not mocked: for whatever a man sows that shall he also reap. ⁸ For he that sows to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption, but he that sows in the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap eternal life.

¹⁷ I know also, my God, that thou dost try the heart, and hast pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things; and now have I seen with joy that thy people, who are present here, have given willingly unto thee.

¹⁰ But he has known the way that I take; he has tried me, and I have come forth as gold. ¹¹ My feet have held to his steps, I have kept his way, and have not departed. ¹² Neither have I separated myself from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

¹ To the Overcomer, even to Jeduthun,
A Psalm of David. ¶ I said, I will take heed to my ways that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bit while the wicked is against me.

³ For those who do no iniquity walk in his ways. ⁴ ¶ Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently. ⁵ O that my ways were ordered to keep thy statutes! ⁶ Then I shall not be ashamed, when I have insight unto all thy commandments.

⁵⁹ ¶ I considered my ways and turned my feet unto thy testimonies.

¹⁰ He does not delight in the strength of the horse; nor does he take pleasure in the legs of a man. ¹¹ The LORD takes pleasure in those that fear him, in those that wait upon his mercy.

¹ ¶ A false balance is abomination to the LORD, but a just weight is his delight.

²⁰ ¶ They that are of a perverse heart are an abomination to the LORD, but such as are perfect in their way are his delight.

²² ¶ Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but the workers of the truth are his delight.

⁸ ¶ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

¹⁷ Ye have wearied the LORD with your words. Yet ye say, In what have we wearied him? When ye say, Every one that does evil pleases the LORD, and he delights in them; or, Where is the God of judgment?

¹⁶ And for this reason do I exercise myself to have always a conscience void of offense toward God and toward men.

¹ ¶ Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

¹⁸ But I have all and abound; I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God.

¹² Am I a sea, or a dragon, that thou settest a watch over me?

¹⁹ If we were to speak of his strength, he is certainly strong; and if of his judgment, who shall cause us to meet?

³² For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, and we should come together unto judgment.

³ And dost thou open thine eyes upon such a one and bring me into judgment with thee?

²¹ O that a man might dispute with God, as he can with his neighbour!

²⁹ Be ye afraid of the sword; for the wrath of the sword comes because of the iniquities, that ye may know there is a judgment.

⁶ Will he plead against me with his great power? No, but rather he would put it in me. ⁷ There the righteous might dispute with him; and should I escape for ever from the one who condemns me.

²³ For he will not lay upon man more than that which is just; that he should enter into judgment with God.

¹¹ When thou with chastening dost correct man for iniquity, thou makest his greatness to consume away like a moth; surely every man is vanity. Selah.

⁶ At thy rebuke, O God of Jacob, both the chariot and horse are cast into a dead sleep.

¹⁶ It is burned with fire; it is cut down; they perish at the rebuke of thy countenance.

³ If thou, O LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall endure? ⁴ Therefore there is forgiveness close to thee, that thou may be feared.

² And enter not into judgment with thy slave; for in thy sight shall no man living be justified.

¹⁴ For God shall bring every work to judgment with every secret thing, whether it is good or whether it is evil.

¹⁴ The LORD will come with judgment against the elders of his people and against these his princes, for ye have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses. ¹⁵ What do you mean that ye beat my people to pieces and grind the faces of the poor? saith the Lord GOD of the hosts.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten; be zealous therefore, and repent.

⁷ ¶ Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? Or where were the righteous cut off? ⁸ Even as I have seen, those that plow iniquity and sow wickedness, reap the same. ⁹ By the breath of God they perish, and by the spirit of his anger they are consumed. ¹⁰ The roaring of the lion and the voice of the fierce lion and the teeth of the young lions, are broken. ¹¹ The old lion perishes for lack of prey, and the stout lion’s whelps are scattered abroad.

⁶ and that he would show thee the secrets of wisdom! For thou dost deserve double according to sound wisdom; and thou dost know that God has forgotten thee because of thine iniquity.

¹⁴ if there is any iniquity in thy hand and thou dost put it far away and dost not consent that wickedness dwell in thy habitations,

⁵ For thy mouth has declared thine iniquity, and thou hast chosen the tongue of the crafty. ⁶ Thine own mouth shall condemn thee, and not I; thine own lips shall testify against thee.

³¹ He shall not be established; in vanity he shall err; therefore, he shall be changed into vanity. ³² He shall be cut off before his time, and his branch shall not be green. ³³ He shall shake off his sour grapes as the vine and shall cast off his flower as the olive. ³⁴ For the congregation of the hypocrites shall be made desolate, and fire shall consume the tents of bribery.

²⁷ ¶ Behold, I know your thoughts and the imaginations which ye devise against me.

³ Also against his three friends was his wrath kindled because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.

¹² Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.

¹² For innumerable evils have compassed me about; my iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to see; they are more than the hairs of my head; therefore my heart fails me.

²⁶ If thou at all take thy neighbour’s clothing as a pledge, thou shalt deliver it unto him before the sun goes down;

⁶ No man shall take the lower or the upper millstone for a pledge, for he takes a man’s life to pledge.

¹⁰ When thou dost lend thy brother any thing, thou shalt not go into his house to take his pledge. ¹¹ Thou shalt stand outside, and the man to whom thou dost lend shall bring the pledge out unto thee. ¹² And if the man is poor, thou shalt not sleep with his pledge. ¹³ Without fail thou shalt deliver him the pledge again when the sun goes down that he may sleep in his own clothing and bless thee, and it shall be righteousness unto thee before the LORD thy God. ¹⁴ ¶ Thou shalt not do violence unto a hired servant that is poor and needy, whether he is of thy brethren or of thy strangers that are in thy land within thy gates. ¹⁵ In his day thou shalt give him his hire, neither shall the sun go down upon it; for he is poor and with it sustains his life, lest he cry against thee unto the LORD, and it be sin unto thee. ¹⁶ The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers; each one shall be put to death for his own sin. ¹⁷ Thou shalt not twist the rights of the stranger nor of the fatherless nor take a widow’s clothing for a pledge, ¹⁸ but thou shalt remember that thou wast a slave in Egypt, and the LORD thy God ransomed thee from there; therefore, I command thee to do this thing.

³ They drive away the ass of the fatherless; they take the widow’s ox for a pledge.

⁹ They pluck the fatherless from the breast and take a pledge of the poor. ¹⁰ They cause the naked to go without clothing, and they take away the sheaves from the hungry.

¹⁹ if I have seen any perish for want of clothing or any needy without a covering; ²⁰ if his loins have not blessed me and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

⁷ neither oppress any, but restores to the debtor his pledge, does not commit robbery, gives his bread to the hungry, and covers the naked with a garment,

¹² oppresses the poor and needy, commits robbery, does not restore the pledge, or lifts up his eyes to the idols, or makes an abomination,

¹⁶ neither oppresses any, nor withholds the pledge, neither commits robbery, but gives his bread to the hungry, and covers the naked with a garment,

⁸ and they lay themselves down upon clothes laid to pledge by any altar, and they drink the wine of the condemned in the house of their god.

⁷ If there should be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy towns in thy land which the LORD thy God gives thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother, ⁸ but thou shalt open thine hand wide unto him and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he lacks. ⁹ Keep thyself that there not be a thought of Belial in thy heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother to give him nothing; for he shall cry unto the LORD against thee, and it shall be a sin unto thee. ¹⁰ Thou shalt surely give unto him, and thine heart shall not be grieved when thou givest unto him because for this thing the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all thy works and in all that thou puttest thine hand to. ¹¹ For the poor shall never cease out of the land; therefore, I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor and to thy needy, in thy land.

¹⁷ or have eaten my morsel alone and the fatherless has not eaten thereof;

³¹ when the servants of my tent said, Oh that we had of his flesh! We would never be satisfied.

⁹ Pe He has dispersed; he has given to the poor; Tzaddi his righteousness endures for ever; Koph his horn shall be exalted in glory.

²⁴ ¶ There are those who scatter, and more is added unto them; and there are those who withhold more than is just, but come to poverty. ²⁵ ¶ The soul who is a blessing unto others shall be made fat, and he that fills shall be filled also himself.

¹⁷ ¶ He that gives unto the poor lends unto the LORD, and he will give him his reward.

⁷ Is it not to share thy bread with the hungry and that thou bring the poor that are cast out into thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou not hide thyself from thy brother?

¹⁰ and if thou pour out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noonday:

⁴² for I was hungry, and ye gave me no food; I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink;

²⁰ Therefore, if thine enemy hungers, feed him; if he thirsts, give him drink; for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

¹¹ And the men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who were the inhabitants in his city, did as Jezebel had sent unto them and as it was written in the letters which she had sent unto them. ¹² They proclaimed a fast and set Naboth at the head of the people. ¹³ Then the two men, sons of Belial, came in and sat before him; and those men of Belial witnessed against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, Naboth blasphemed God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones that he died. ¹⁴ Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, Naboth has been stoned and is dead. ¹⁵ And it came to pass when Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned and was dead that she said to Ahab, Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth of Jezreel which he refused to give thee for money, for Naboth is not alive, but dead.

⁸ Are ye to bring honour unto him? Are ye to contend for God?

⁷ ¶ When I went out to the gate to judgment, when I had my seat prepared in the plaza! ⁸ The young men would see me and hide themselves, and the aged would arise and stand. ⁹ The princes would refrain from talking and lay their hand on their mouth; ¹⁰ the voice of the principals would not be noticed, and their tongue would cleave to the roof of their mouth. ¹¹ When the ears that heard me, called me blessed; and when the eyes that saw me, gave witness to me: ¹² because I delivered the poor that cried and the fatherless who had no one to help him. ¹³ The blessing of the one that was ready to perish came upon me; and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy. ¹⁴ I put on righteousness, and it clothed me as a robe; and my diadem was judgment. ¹⁵ I was eyes to the blind and feet to the lame. ¹⁶ I was a father to the needy; and the cause which I did not know I searched out. ¹⁷ And I broke the fangs of the wicked and caused their teeth to release the prey.

³⁴ if I feared a great multitude or did the contempt of families terrify me, that I kept silence, and did not go out of the door?

⁸ The wicked press in on every side when the vilest men are exalted.

³ the captain of fifty and the honourable man and the counsellor and the cunning artificer and the eloquent wise man.

¹⁵ The ancient and venerable to look upon is the head; the prophet that teaches lies, he is the tail.

³ To complete the evil with their hands, the prince demands, and the judge judges for a reward; and the great man speaks the desires of his heart: and they confirm it.

²¹ Thou shalt neither mistreat a stranger nor oppress him; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt. ²² Ye shall not afflict any widow or fatherless child. ²³ If thou afflict them in any manner, and they cry at all unto me, I will surely hear their cry; ²⁴ and my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

¹⁹ Cursed is he that twists the rights of the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow. And all the people shall say, Amen.

²¹ He afflicted the barren woman that did not conceive and never did good unto the widow.

¹² because I delivered the poor that cried and the fatherless who had no one to help him. ¹³ The blessing of the one that was ready to perish came upon me; and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy.

¹⁶ ¶ If I have disturbed the desire of the poor or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail; ¹⁷ or have eaten my morsel alone and the fatherless has not eaten thereof; ¹⁸ (for from my youth the fatherless was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided the widow from my mother’s womb)

²¹ if I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, even when I saw that they would all help me in the gate;

¹⁵ Break thou the arm of the wicked and the evil man; seek out his wickedness until thou find none.

¹⁷ For the arms of the wicked shall be broken, but the LORD upholds the righteous.

⁶ They slay the widow and the stranger and murder the fatherless.

¹⁷ learn to do good; seek judgment; restore unto the oppressed; hear the fatherless in right judgment; protect the widow.

²³ Thy princes are rebellious and companions of thieves; every one loves bribes and follows after rewards; they do not hear the fatherless in judgment, neither does the cause of the widow come unto them.

² to turn aside the poor from right judgment and to take away the right from the afflicted of my people that widows may be their prey and that they may rob the fatherless!

⁷ In thee they have despised father and mother; in the midst of thee they have dealt by oppression with the stranger; in thee they have vexed the fatherless and the widow.

²² Therefore thus hath the Lord GOD said: Behold, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt and will break his arms, the strong, and that which was broken; and I will cause the sword to fall out of his hand.

⁵ And I will come near unto you for judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers and against the adulterers and against false swearers and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and do not fear me, said the LORD of the hosts.

³ and there was a widow in that city, and she came unto him, saying, Defend me from my adversary. ⁴ And he would not for a while, but afterward he said within himself, Though I do not fear God, nor regard man, ⁵ yet because this widow troubles me, I will do her justice, lest by her continual coming she weary me.

⁴ For the arrows of the Almighty are within me; my spirit drinks of the poison; and terrors of God combat me.

²¹ withdraw thy hand from me; and let not thy dread make me afraid.

⁸ For a net shall be cast at his feet, and he shall walk upon a network. ⁹ The snare shall take him by the heel, and the robber shall prevail against him. ¹⁰ The cord is hidden in the ground and a trap for him in the way.

⁶ know now that God has overthrown me and has compassed me with his net.

⁶ Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, with winds of whirlwinds: this shall be the portion of their cup.

²⁷ when what you have feared comes as destruction, and your calamity comes as a whirlwind; when tribulation and anguish come upon you.

²⁵ Thou shall not be afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked when it comes. ²⁶ For the LORD shall be thy confidence and shall keep thy foot from being taken.

³ For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction shall come upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

¹⁴ They meet with darkness in the daytime and grope in the noonday as in the night.

⁶ The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his lamp shall be put out with him.

¹⁸ He shall be driven from the light into the darkness and chased out of the world.

⁸ ¶ He has walled off my way and I shall not pass, and he has set darkness in my paths.

³⁴ Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee?

⁷ Deep calls unto deep at the voice of thy waterspouts; all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.

Shoshannim (lilies), A Psalm of David. ¶ Save me, O God; for the waters are come in unto my soul. ² I sink in deep mire where there is no standing; I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.

⁴ then the waters would have overwhelmed us; the flood would have gone over our soul; ⁵ then the proud waters would have gone over our soul.

¹⁹ The way of the wicked is as darkness; they do not know in what they stumble.

²² they shall look upon the earth and behold tribulation and gross darkness, darkness and anguish; and they shall be submerged in gross darkness.

² a day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of shadow that spreads itself upon the mountains as the dawn: a people great and strong; there has not ever been the like, neither shall there be any more after him, even to the years of many generations. ³ A fire devours before him and behind him a flame burns: the earth is as the garden of Eden before him, and behind him a desolate wilderness; neither shall anyone escape him.

³ For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about; all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.

¹² But the sons of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

⁸ It is higher than the heavens; what canst thou do? It is deeper than Sheol; how canst thou know it?

³ ¶ When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; ⁴ what is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou dost visit him?

³ But our God is in the heavens; he has made whatever he has desired.

¹⁶ The heavens are the heavens of the LORD, but the earth he has given to the sons of Adam.

² Do not be rash with thy mouth and do not let thy heart be hasty to utter any thing before God, for God is in heaven and thou upon earth; therefore let thy words be few.

¹⁵ For thus has said the high and lofty One that inhabits eternity, whose name is The Holy One; I dwell in the high place and in holiness and with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit to cause the spirit of the humble to live and to cause the heart of the contrite ones to live.

¹ ¶ Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where shall remain this house that ye built unto me? and where shall remain this place of my rest?

¹¹ He has said in his heart, God has forgotten; he hides his face; he will never see it.

⁷ Behold, they belch out with their mouth; swords are in their lips; for who, say they, doth hear?

⁵ They encourage themselves in an evil matter; they attempt to hide the snares; they say, Who shall see them?

¹¹ And they say, How does God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?

⁷ Yet they say, JAH shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it. ⁸ Understand, ye carnal ones among the people, and, ye fools, when will ye be wise? ⁹ He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? he that formed the eye, shall he not see?

¹⁵ Woe unto those that hide themselves from the LORD, covering the counsel; and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who sees us? and who knows us?

¹² Then said he unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen what the elders of the house of Israel do in the dark, each man in the chambers of his imagery? for they say, The LORD does not see us; the LORD has forsaken the earth.

⁹ Then said he unto me, The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceeding great, and the land is full of blood, and the city full of perverseness, for they have said, The LORD has forsaken the earth, and the LORD does not see.

¹² And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with lamps and make a visitation upon the men that are settled on their lees, that say in their heart, The LORD will not do good, neither will he do evil.

⁹ He holds back the face of his throne and spreads his cloud upon it.

²² There is no darkness nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

¹⁴ From the place of his habitation he looked upon all the inhabitants of the earth.

² Clouds and darkness are round about him; righteousness and judgment are the seat of his throne.

¹ To the Overcomer, A Psalm of David. ¶ O LORD, thou hast searched me and known me. ² Thou knowest my sitting down and my rising up, thou dost understand my thoughts from afar.

¹¹ If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall shine because of me. ¹² Even the darkness does not hide from thee; but the night shines as the day; the darkness is as the light.

²⁴ Can any hide himself in hiding places that I shall not see him? said the LORD. Do I not fill heaven and earth? said the LORD.

² For there is nothing covered that shall not be revealed, neither hid that shall not be known. ³ Therefore whatever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light, and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.

⁵ And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

¹¹ ¶ The earth corrupted itself before God, and the earth filled itself with violence. ¹² And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted its way upon the earth. ¹³ ¶ And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

²⁶ And as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. ²⁷ They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.

¹¹ ¶ In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of the heavens were opened.

¹⁷ ¶ And the flood was forty days upon the earth, and the waters multiplied and bore up the ark, and it was lifted up above the earth. ¹⁸ And the waters prevailed and multiplied greatly upon the earth, and the ark went upon the face of the waters. ¹⁹ And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth, and all the high mountains that were under all the heavens were covered. ²⁰ Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail, and the mountains were covered. ²¹ ¶ And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl and of beasts and of animals and of every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth and every man; ²² all in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life of all that was in the dry land died. ²³ And every substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man and cattle and the animals and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth, and only Noah remained alive and those that were with him in the ark. ²⁴ And the waters prevailed upon the earth one hundred and fifty days.

¹⁹ The impetuous waters break the stones and wash away the dust of the earth; in like manner thou dost cause man to lose hope.

³² He shall be cut off before his time, and his branch shall not be green.

²³ But thou, O God, shalt bring them down into the pit of the grave; bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days, but I will trust in thee.

²⁴ I said, O my God, do not cut me off in the midst of my days; thy years are from generation to generation.

¹⁷ Do not be hasty to condemn, neither be thou foolish: why should thou die in the midst of thy labours?

²⁶ And every one that hears these words of mine and does not do them shall be likened unto a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand; ²⁷ and the rain descended, and the rivers came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, and it fell; and great was the fall of it.

³⁷ But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. ³⁸ For as they were in the days before the flood, eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, ³⁹ and they knew not until the flood came and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

¹⁹ in which he also went and preached unto the imprisoned spirits, ²⁰ which in the time past were disobedient, when once the patience of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being made ready, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

⁵ and if he did not forgive the old world, but kept Noah, a preacher of righteousness, with seven other persons, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

¹⁰ Their cows conceive, and do not abort; their cows calve and do not cast forth their young.

¹⁴ Therefore, they say unto God, Depart from us; for we do not desire the knowledge of thy ways. ¹⁵ Who is the Almighty that we should serve him? And what profit should we have if we pray unto him?

⁶ ¶ There are many that say, Who will show us any good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.

¹¹ Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to leave our presence.

¹⁴ Ye have said, It is vain to serve God, and what profit is it that we have kept his law and that we walk mournfully before the LORD of the hosts?

²⁹ And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? Art thou come here to torment us before the time?

³⁴ And, behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus; and when they saw him, they besought him that he would depart out of their borders.

²⁸ And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a perverse understanding, to do those things which are not convenient,

⁷ The LORD makes poor and makes rich; he brings low and lifts up.

⁶ ¶ The tents of robbers are at ease, and those that provoke God and those who carry gods in their hands live secure.

¹⁶ Behold that their good is not in their hands; the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

¹ ¶ Blessed is the man that does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of the scornful.

¹⁴ from men, with thy hand, O LORD, from men of the world, who have their portion in this life and whose belly thou dost fill with thy provision: they satisfy their sons and leave the rest to their family.

² Thou hast planted them, and they have taken root: they grow, and they bring forth fruit; thou art near in their mouth and far from their kidneys.

¹⁷ Nevertheless he did not leave himself without witness, in that he did good and gave us rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

¹⁶ After this I will return and will restore the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will repair its ruins, and I will set it up again,

²³ If it is the scourge, it slays suddenly, and it does not laugh at the trial of the innocent.

¹¹ Let Mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad because of thy judgments.

⁶ ¶ The righteous also shall see and fear and shall laugh at him, saying:

¹⁰ The righteous shall rejoice when he sees the vengeance; he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.

⁸ ¶ Zion heard and was glad; and the daughters of Judah rejoiced because of thy judgments, O LORD.

⁴² The righteous shall see it and rejoice, and all iniquity shall stop her mouth.

¹⁰ ¶ When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices, and when the wicked perish, there are feasts.

²⁰ Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye saints, apostles, and prophets; for God has judged your cause upon her.

¹ ¶ And after these things I heard a great voice of a great company in the heaven, saying, Halelu-JAH; Salvation and glory and honour and power unto the Lord our God; ² for true and righteous are his judgments; for he has judged the great whore, who corrupted the earth with her fornication, and has avenged the blood of his slaves at her hand. ³ And again they said, Halelu-JAH. And her smoke rose up for ever and ever.

²⁴ ¶ Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of the heavens;

¹⁶ While he was yet speaking, another came who said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven and has burned up the sheep and the servants and consumed them; and I alone have escaped to tell thee.

⁷ ¶ Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? Or where were the righteous cut off?

³ Shall God pervert that which is right or shall the Almighty pervert justice? ⁴ Because thy sons sinned against him, he cast them away in the place of their rebellion;

³⁰ He shall not escape from the darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches, and by the breath of his mouth he shall perish.

¹⁸ He shall restore the work that was not his; according to the substance that he took; neither shall he devour, nor rejoice. ¹⁹ Because he oppressed and forsook the poor; because he has violently taken away houses which he did not build,

²⁶ All darkness is kept for his secrets; a fire not blown shall consume him; his successor shall be broken in his tent.

²⁷ ¶ Behold, I know your thoughts and the imaginations which ye devise against me. ²⁸ For ye say, What is of the house of the prince, and what of the tent of the habitation of the wicked?

¹ ¶ There were present at the same time some that told him of the Galilaeans whose blood Pilate had mingled with his sacrifices. ² And Jesus, answering, said unto them, Think ye that these Galilaeans suffered such things because they were greater sinners than all the other Galilaeans? ³ I tell you, No; but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. ⁴ Or those eighteen upon whom the tower in Siloam fell and slew them, think ye that they were greater debtors than all the other men that dwelt in Jerusalem? ⁵ I tell you, No; but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

²⁹ but the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. ³⁰ Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

⁶ and if he condemned by destruction the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha, turning them into ashes, making them an example unto those that after should live without fear and reverence of God; ⁷ ¶ and delivered just Lot, who was persecuted by those abominable people because of their nefarious conversation;

⁹ And thou, Solomon, my son, know thou the God of thy father and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing soul, for the LORD searches all hearts and understands all the imaginations of the thoughts. If thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.

¹⁰ Jod The young lions do lack and suffer hunger, but those that seek the LORD shall not lack any good thing.

⁵ Or who shall take hold of my strength? Make peace with me, yea, make peace with me.

¹⁹ I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to him that is far off and to him that is near, said the LORD; and healed him. ²⁰ But the wicked are like the sea in tempest, that cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. ²¹ There is no peace, saith my God, for the wicked.

²⁵ Conciliate with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.

³ And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

³⁶ The word which God sent unto the sons of Israel, preaching the gospel: peace by Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all),

⁶ For the God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, has shined in our hearts to bring forth the light of the knowledge of the clarity of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

²⁰ Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did exhort you by us; we beseech you in Christ’s name, be ye reconciled to God.

¹⁴ ¶ For he is our peace, who of both has made one, breaking down the middle wall of separation, ¹⁵ abolishing in his flesh the enmity, which was the law of commandments in the order of rites, to edify in himself the two in one new man, making peace, ¹⁶ and to reconcile both with God by the cross {Gr. stauros – stake} in one body, having slain the enmity thereby; ¹⁷ and he came and preached peace unto you who were afar off and to those that were near.

⁷ And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

¹ ¶ Now, therefore, hear, O Israel, the statutes and the rights which I teach you, for in doing them ye shall live and go in and inherit the land which the LORD God of your fathers gives you. ² Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish anything from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

⁶ And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be upon thy heart, ⁷ and thou shalt repeat them diligently unto thy sons and shalt talk of them being in thy house and walking by the way, lying down in bed, and rising up; ⁸ and thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thy hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thy eyes; ⁹ and thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house and on thy gates.

¹² Neither have I separated myself from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

¹¹ ¶ Thy spoken word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against thee.

¹ ¶ My son, if thou wilt receive my words and hide my commandments within thee ² so that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom and apply thine heart to intelligence, ³ yea, if thou criest for understanding and givest thy voice unto intelligence, ⁴ if thou seekest her as silver and searchest for her as for hid treasures, ⁵ then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God. ⁶ For the LORD gives wisdom; out of his mouth comes knowledge and intelligence. ⁷ He keeps the person of the upright; he is a buckler to those that walk perfectly, ⁸ keeping the paths of judgment and the way of his merciful ones. ⁹ Then shalt thou understand righteousness and judgment and equity, yea, every good path.

⁴ He taught me and said unto me, Sustain thine heart with my words; keep my commandments, and live.

²¹ Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.

¹⁶ Thy words were found, and I ate them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of my heart: for thy name was called upon me, O LORD God of the hosts.

³⁵ The good man out of the good treasure of the heart brings forth good things, and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.

⁵² And he said unto them, Therefore every scribe who is instructed in the kingdom of the heavens is like unto a man, a husband of a house, who brings forth out of his treasure things new and old.

¹⁹ But Mary kept all these things, pondering them in her heart.

⁵¹ And he went down with them and came to Nazareth and was subject unto them, but his mother kept all these things in her heart.

¹ ¶ It is in order then, brethren, that we beseech and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that in the manner ye were taught of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would continue to grow. ² For ye already know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus.

¹³ Get up, sanctify the people and say, Sanctify yourselves against tomorrow; for thus saith the LORD God of Israel, There is anathema in the midst of thee, O Israel; thou canst not stand before thy enemies until ye take away the anathema from among you. ¹⁴ In the morning, therefore, ye shall come near according to your tribes, and it shall be that the tribe which the LORD takes shall come according to the families thereof, and the family which the LORD shall take shall come by households, and the household which the LORD shall take shall come man by man. ¹⁵ And it shall be that he that is taken in the anathema shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he has because he has broken the covenant of the LORD and because he has wrought folly in Israel. ¹⁶ ¶ So Joshua rose up early in the morning and brought Israel by their tribes, and the tribe of Judah was taken;

⁵ if thou would seek God early and make thy supplication to the Almighty, ⁶ if thou wert pure and upright, surely now he would awake upon thee and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous.

¹³ ¶ If thou would prepare thine heart and stretch out thine hands toward him; ¹⁴ if there is any iniquity in thy hand and thou dost put it far away and dost not consent that wickedness dwell in thy habitations,

¹⁴ Behold, he shall break down, and it shall not be built again; he shall shut up a man, and no one shall be able to open unto him.

¹⁵ He shall dwell in his tent, as if it were not his; brimstone shall be scattered upon his habitation.

²² And the LORD shall smite Egypt; he shall smite and heal it because they shall become converted unto the LORD, and he shall grant them clemency and shall heal them.

⁶ ¶ Turn ye unto him against whom ye have deeply revolted, O sons of Israel.

¹⁵ He that walks in righteousness, he that speaks uprightly; he that despises the gain of violence, he that shakes his hands from receiving bribes; he that stops his ears to not hear of blood; he who shuts his eyes to not see evil;

⁶ ¶ Seek the LORD while he may be found; call upon him while he is near: ⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

⁴ Again I will build thee, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel: thou shalt again be adorned with thy tambourines and shalt go forth in the chorus of dancers.

¹ ¶ O Israel, become converted unto the LORD thy God; for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity. ² Take with you words, and be converted unto the LORD; say unto him, Take away all iniquity and receive us graciously, so will we render the calves of our lips.

³ Therefore thou shalt say unto them, Thus hath the LORD of the hosts said; Turn unto me, said the LORD of the hosts, and I will turn unto you, said the LORD of the hosts.

³ Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goes forth over the face of the whole earth; for every one that steals (as it is written on one side of the roll) shall be destroyed; and every one that swears (as it is written on the other side of the roll) shall be destroyed. ⁴ I brought it forth, said the LORD of the hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief and into the house of him that swears falsely by my name; and it shall remain in the midst of his house and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.

²⁰ but I announced first unto those of Damascus and at Jerusalem and throughout all the coasts of Judaea and then to the Gentiles that they should repent and turn to God, doing works worthy of repentance.

⁷ rooted and built up in him and confirmed in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

¹⁹ ¶ Nevertheless, the foundation of God stands sure, having this seal, The Lord knows those that are his. And, Let every one that names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

²⁰ But ye, beloved, building up yourselves upon your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,

²⁹ Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab; all these were the sons of Joktan.

²⁸ And they went to Ophir and brought gold from there, four hundred and twenty talents and brought it to king Solomon.

²¹ And all King Solomon’s drinking vessels were of gold, and likewise all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon were of pure gold; there was no silver, for in the days of Solomon it was not esteemed.

⁴⁸ Jehoshaphat had made ships in Tharshish to go to Ophir for gold, but they did not go, for the ships were broken at Eziongeber.

⁵ Moreover, the brasen altar that Bezaleel, the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made was there before the tabernacle of the LORD; and Solomon and the congregation sought unto it.

¹⁰ Also the slaves of Hiram and the slaves of Solomon, who had brought gold from Ophir, brought brazil wood and precious stones.

²⁷ And the king made silver in Jerusalem as stones, and he made cedar trees as the sycamore trees that are in the low plains in abundance.

²⁵ if I rejoiced because my wealth was being multiplied, and because my hand had gotten much;

⁹ Kings’ daughters were among thy honourable women; the queen stands at thy right hand with a crown of gold from Ophir.

¹² I will make the noble man more precious than fine gold and man more than the gold of Ophir.

¹ ¶ After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram; I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

⁵ The LORD is the portion of my inheritance and of my cup; thou dost maintain my lot. ⁶ The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a beautiful inheritance.

² The LORD is my rock and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

¹¹ For the LORD God is a sun and shield unto us; the LORD will give grace and glory; he will not withhold good from those that walk uprightly.

⁶ And in thy times wisdom and knowledge, and the strength of salvation shall reign: the fear of the LORD shall be his treasure.

¹⁰ ¶ Do not fear for I am with thee; do not be dismayed, for I am thy God, who strengthens thee; I will help thee always; I will always uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

³¹ ¶ What shall we then say to these things? If God is for us, who shall be against us?

¹⁰ as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

⁵ Hearken, my beloved brethren, Has not God chosen the poor of this world that they might be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to those that love him?

¹⁵ then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; thou shalt be strongly established and shalt not fear;

¹⁰ Will he delight himself in the Almighty? Will he always call upon God?

⁹ For he said, It shall profit a man nothing that he should conform his will with God.

¹ A Psalm of David. ¶ Aleph Unto thee, O LORD, do I lift up my soul.

⁴ In the same manner delight thyself in the LORD, and he shall give thee the desires of thy heart.

⁴ Rejoice the soul of thy slave, for unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.

⁸ Cause me to hear thy mercy in the morning, for in thee do I trust; cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul unto thee.

³ ¶ As the apple tree among the trees of the wild, so is my beloved among the sons. I desired to sit under his shadow, and his fruit was sweet to my taste.

¹⁴ Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth and cause thee to eat of the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD has spoken it.

²² For I delight with the law of God with the inward man,

²⁰ ¶ And if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart and knows all things. ²¹ Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, then we have confidence in God;

²⁶ He shall pray unto God, and he will love him; and he shall see his face with shouts of joy; for he will render unto the man the recompense of his righteousness.

²⁸ so that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he hears the cry of the afflicted.

¹⁴ Sacrifice praise unto God and pay thy vows unto the most High ¹⁵ and call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.

¹² Thy promises are upon me, O God; I will render praises unto thee.

¹³ ¶ I will go into thy house with burnt offerings; I will pay thee my vows, ¹⁴ which my lips have uttered and my mouth has spoken when I was in trouble.

¹⁷ I cried unto him with my mouth, and he was extolled with my tongue. ¹⁸ If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me: ¹⁹ But verily God has heard me; he has attended to the voice of my prayer. ²⁰ Blessed be God, who has not turned away my prayer nor his mercy from me.

¹⁵ He shall call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and glorify him.

¹ ¶ I love the LORD, because he has heard my voice and my supplications.

¹⁴ I will pay my vows unto the LORD now in the presence of all his people.

⁴ ¶ When thou dost vow a vow unto God, do not defer to pay it; for he has no pleasure in fools; pay that which thou hast vowed.

⁹ Then shalt thou call, and thou shalt hear the LORD; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;

⁹ But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that which I have vowed; that saving comes of the LORD.

¹⁴ ¶ And this is the confidence that we have in God, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he hears us: ¹⁵ And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we also know that we have the petitions that we asked of him.

³ when his lamp shone upon my head, and by its light I walked in the darkness;

⁴ Grant thee according to thine heart and fulfil all thy counsel.

¹⁷ And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us, and set thou aright the work of our hands upon us; yea, set thou aright the work of our hands.

¹¹ Light is sown for the righteous and gladness for the upright in heart.

⁴ Zain A light has shined in the darkness upon the upright: Cheth Gracious and merciful and righteous.

¹⁸ But the path of the just is as the light of the morning star, that shines more and more until the day is perfect.

²¹ Then thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, that ye not turn to the right hand and that ye not turn to the left hand.

³⁷ ¶ Mem Who shall he be that saith that something comes which the Lord has not sent?

² But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness be born, and in his wings he shall bring saving health; and ye shall go forth and jump like calves of the herd.

²² And all things, whatever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

¹² ¶ Then Jesus spoke again unto them, saying, I AM the light of the world; he that follows me shall not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life.

¹⁵ Ye ought to say instead, If the Lord wills, and if we live, we shall do this or that.

¹⁹ He shall deliver thee in six tribulations, and in the seventh no evil shall touch thee. ²⁰ In famine he shall ransom thee from death, and in war from the power of the sword. ²¹ Thou shalt be hid from the scourge of the tongue; neither shalt thou be afraid of destruction when it comes. ²² At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh; neither shalt thou be afraid of the beasts of the earth; ²³ for thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field; and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee. ²⁴ And thou shalt know that there is peace in thy tent, and thou shalt visit thy habitation and shalt not sin. ²⁵ Thou shalt know that thy seed is great and thine offspring as the grass of the earth. ²⁶ Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like a shock of wheat that is gathered in its season. ²⁷ Behold that which we have searched out, so it is; hear it and judge it for thyself.

² I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High ³ because my enemies are turned back; they shall fall and perish at thy presence.

¹⁴ Because he has set his will upon me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high because he has known my name. ¹⁵ He shall call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and glorify him. ¹⁶ With long life I will satisfy him and show him my saving health.

⁹ For, behold, thine enemies, O LORD, for behold, thine enemies shall perish; all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered. ¹⁰ But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of a unicorn; I shall be anointed with fresh oil. ¹¹ And my eye saw my desire on my enemies, and my ears heard my desire of those that rose up against me, of the wicked.

⁶ ¶ For the LORD, who is high and lifted up, looks upon the humble, but the proud he does not know.

²³ ¶ A man’s pride shall bring him low, but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.

² For all these things my hand has made, by my hand has these things been, said the LORD; but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit and trembles at my word.

²⁶ thus hath the Lord GOD said: Remove the diadem and take off the crown; it shall no longer be like this; I will exalt the one that is low and abase the one that is high. ²⁷ I will overturn, overturn, overturn, it, and it shall be no more until he comes whose right it is; and I will give it unto him.

¹² And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be humbled, and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

⁵² He has put down the mighty from their thrones and exalted the humble.

¹¹ For whosoever exalts himself shall be abased, and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.

⁹ ¶ And he spoke this parable unto some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and despised others: ¹⁰ Two men went up into the temple to pray, the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. ¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee that I am not as other men are: extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. ¹² I fast two meals every sabbath; I give tithes of all that I possess. ¹³ And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God, reconcile me, a sinner. ¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for anyone that exalts himself shall be humbled, and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.

⁶ But he gives greater grace. Therefore he says, God resists the proud, but gives grace unto the humble.

⁵ ¶ Likewise, young people, be subject to the elders in such a manner that you are all subject to one another. Be clothed with humility of will, for God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble.

²⁶ And the LORD said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes. ²⁷ And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, who am but dust and ashes; ²⁸ peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, If I find there forty-five, I will not destroy it. ²⁹ And he spoke unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty’s sake. ³⁰ And he said unto him, Oh let not the Lord now be angry if I shall speak; peradventure there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it if I find thirty there. ³¹ And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord; peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for twenty’s sake. ³² And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once; peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten’s sake.

⁷ ¶ And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz, the Temanite, My wrath has been kindled against thee, and against thy two friends; for ye have not spoken by me in uprightness, as my slave Job has. ⁸ Therefore, take unto you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my slave Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my slave Job shall pray for you; for only because I will accept him, I shall not deal with you according to your folly, in that ye have not spoken by me in uprightness, like my slave Job.

²⁰ ¶ The LORD will reward me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he shall recompense me.

⁴ He that has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not taken my name in vain, nor sworn deceitfully.

¹⁵ And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; likewise, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear; your hands are full of blood.

¹² And they shall build up out of thee the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the fallen foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.

¹ ¶ Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem and see now and find out and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that execute judgment, that seek the truth; and I will pardon the city.

⁹ And now, therefore, beseech the face of God, and he will have compassion on us; this has come by your hand: will he regard your persons? said the LORD of the hosts.

¹⁹ Then the disciples came to Jesus apart and said, Why could not we cast him out? ²⁰ And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unfaithfulness; for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove from here to yonder place, and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

¹⁵ And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I am acquainted with, but who are ye? ¹⁶ And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them and overcame them and prevailed against them so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

²⁴ saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar; and, behold, God has given thee all those that sail with thee.

⁸ I desire, therefore, that the men in every place, pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and strife.

¹⁵ and the prayer of faith shall cause the one who is sick to be saved, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he has committed sins, he shall be forgiven them. ¹⁶ Confess your faults one to another and pray one for another that ye may be whole. The effectual prayer of the righteous is very powerful.
