¹² And the sons of Judah: Er and Onan and Shelah and Pharez and Zerah; but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. And the sons of Pharez were Hezron and Hamul.

³⁵ And she conceived again and gave birth a son; and she said, Now I will praise the LORD; therefore she called his name Judah and stopped bearing children.

¹ ¶ And it came to pass at that time that Judah went down from his brethren and turned in to a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah. ² And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite, whose name was Shuah, and he took her and went in unto her. ³ And she conceived and gave birth to a son, and he called his name Er.

⁷ And Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD and the LORD slew him.

¹⁰ And the thing which he did displeased the LORD, and he slew him also.

²⁴ ¶ And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar, thy daughter-in-law, has played the harlot; and also, behold, she is with child by whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her forth and let her be burnt. ²⁵ When she was brought forth, she sent to her father-in-law, saying, By the man whose these are, am I with child; and she said, Discern, I pray thee, whose are these, the signet and mantel and staff. ²⁶ Then Judah acknowledged them, and said, She has been more righteous than I because I did not give her to Shelah, my son. And he knew her again no more. ²⁷ And it came to pass in the time of her travail that, behold, twins were in her womb. ²⁸ And it came to pass when she travailed, that the one put out his hand, and the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying, This came out first. ²⁹ And it came to pass as he drew back his hand, that, behold, his brother came out; and she said, Why hast thou brought this breach upon thee? Therefore his name was called Pharez. ³⁰ And afterward his brother that had the scarlet thread upon his hand came out, and his name was called Zarah.

⁸ ¶ Judah, thou art he whom thy brethren shall praise; thy hand shall be on the neck of thine enemies; thy father’s sons shall bow down before thee. ⁹ Judah is a lion’s whelp; from the prey, my son, thou art gone up; he stooped down, he couched as a lion and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up? ¹⁰ The sceptre shall not be taken from Judah, nor the lawgiver from between his feet until Shiloh comes; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be. ¹¹ Binding his foal unto the vine and his ass’s colt unto the choice roots; he washed his garments in wine and his covering in the blood of grapes; ¹² His eyes red with wine, and his teeth white with milk.

⁷ of Judah, Nahshon, the son of Amminadab;

²⁶ Of the sons of Judah, by their generations, after their families, by the houses of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war, ²⁷ those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Judah, were seventy-four thousand six hundred.

¹⁹ The sons of Judah: Er and Onan; and Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. ²⁰ And the sons of Judah by their families: of Shelah, the family of the Shelanites; of Pharez, the family of the Pharzites; of Zerah, the family of the Zarhites. ²¹ And the sons of Pharez: of Hezron, the family of the Hezronites; of Hamul, the family of the Hamulites.

⁷ And this blessing is for Judah, and he said, Hear, LORD, the voice of Judah, and bring him unto his people; let his hands be sufficient for him, and be thou a help to him from his enemies.

² And the LORD said, Judah shall go up; behold, I have delivered the land into his hands.

³ The sons of Judah: Er, Onan, and Shelah. These three were born unto him of the daughter of Shua, the Canaanitess. And Er, the firstborn of Judah, was evil in the sight of the LORD, and he slew him. ⁴ And Tamar, his daughter-in-law, gave birth unto him Pharez and Zerah. All the sons of Judah were five. ⁵ The sons of Pharez: Hezron and Hamul.
