¹ ¶ Now these are the names of the tribes. From the side of the north by the way of Hethlon, as one goes to Hamath, Hazarenan, to the border of Damascus northward, to the coast of Hamath; Dan shall have a portion, his sides being to the east and to the west.

³ And she said, Behold my maid Bilhah, go in unto her; and she shall bear upon my knees, that I may also have children by her. ⁴ And she gave him Bilhah her handmaid to wife; and Jacob went in unto her. ⁵ And Bilhah conceived and gave birth to a son unto Jacob. ⁶ And Rachel said, God has judged me, and has also heard my voice, and has given me a son. Therefore she called his name Dan.

¹ ¶ Now these are the names of the sons of Israel, who came into Egypt with Jacob; each one came in with his household. ² Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah, ³ Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin, ⁴ Dan and Naphtali, Gad, and Asher. ⁵ And all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls: for Joseph was in Egypt already.

⁵ And these are the names of the men that shall stand with you: of the tribe of Reuben, Elizur, the son of Shedeur; ⁶ of Simeon, Shelumiel, the son of Zurishaddai; ⁷ of Judah, Nahshon, the son of Amminadab; ⁸ of Issachar, Nethaneel, the son of Zuar; ⁹ of Zebulun, Eliab, the son of Helon; ¹⁰ of the sons of Joseph, of Ephraim, Elishama, the son of Ammihud; of Manasseh, Gamaliel, the son of Pedahzur; ¹¹ of Benjamin, Abidan, the son of Gideoni; ¹² of Dan, Ahiezer, the son of Ammishaddai; ¹³ of Asher, Pagiel, the son of Ocran; ¹⁴ of Gad, Eliasaph, the son of Deuel; ¹⁵ of Naphtali, Ahira, the son of Enan;

⁴ And these were their names: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua, the son of Zaccur. ⁵ Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat, the son of Hori. ⁶ Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb, the son of Jephunneh. ⁷ Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal, the son of Joseph. ⁸ Of the tribe of Ephraim, Hosea, the son of Nun. ⁹ Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti, the son of Raphu. ¹⁰ Of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel, the son of Sodi. ¹¹ Of the tribe of Joseph, namely, of the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi, the son of Susi. ¹² Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel, the son of Gemalli. ¹³ Of the tribe of Asher, Sethur, the son of Michael. ¹⁴ Of the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi, the son of Vophsi. ¹⁵ Of the tribe of Gad, Geuel, the son of Machi.

⁷ And this shall be your north border: from the great sea ye shall point out for you Mount Hor. ⁸ From Mount Hor ye shall point out your border unto the entrance of Hamath, and the goings forth of the border shall be to Zedad, ⁹ and the border shall go on to Ziphron, and the goings out of it shall be at Hazarenan; this shall be your north border.

⁴⁰ ¶ And the seventh lot came out for the tribe of the sons of Dan according to their families. ⁴¹ And the border of their inheritance was Zorah, Eshtaol, Irshemesh, ⁴² Shaalabbin, Ajalon, Jethlah, ⁴³ Elon, Thimnathah, Ekron, ⁴⁴ Eltekeh, Gibbethon, Baalath, ⁴⁵ Jehud, Beneberak, Gathrimmon, ⁴⁶ Mejarkon, Rakkon, with the border before Joppa. ⁴⁷ And the border of the sons of Dan went out too little for them; therefore, the sons of Dan went up to fight against Leshem and took it and smote it with the edge of the sword and possessed it and dwelt therein and called Leshem, Dan, after the name of Dan their father.

²⁶ And the sons of Dan went their way, and when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back unto his house. ²⁷ ¶ And they took the things which Micah had made together with the priest which he had and came unto Laish unto a people that were at quiet and secure, and they smote them with the edge of the sword and burnt the city with fire. ²⁸ And there was no deliverer because it was far from Zidon, and they had no business with anyone; and it was in the valley that lies by Bethrehob. Then they rebuilt the city and dwelt therein. ²⁹ And they called the name of the city Dan after the name of Dan their father, who was born unto Israel; however, the name of the city was Laish at the first.

² For the king said to Joab, the captain of the host, who was with him, Go now through all the tribes of Israel from Dan unto Beersheba and number the people that I may know the number of the people.

²⁸ And having taken counsel, the king made two calves of gold and said unto the people, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem; behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. ²⁹ And he set the one in Bethel and the other he put in Dan.

¹⁵ And this shall be the border of the land toward the north side, from the great sea, the way of Hethlon, as men go to Zedad; ¹⁶ Hamath, Berothah, Sibraim, which is between the border of Damascus and the border of Hamath; Hazarhatticon, which is by the coast of Hauran. ¹⁷ And the border of the north shall be from the sea of Hazarenan to the border of Damascus to the north, and to the border of Hamath to the side of the north.

²⁰ And to the west side the great sea shall be the border straight unto Hamath. This shall be the west side.

¹⁵ Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil because I am good? ¹⁶ So the first shall be last, and the last first; for many are called, but few are chosen.

⁴ And I heard the number of those that were sealed: and there were sealed a hundred and forty-four thousand of all the tribes of the sons of Israel. ⁵ Of the tribe of Juda were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand. ⁶ Of the tribe of Aser were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Naphtali were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Manasses were sealed twelve thousand. ⁷ Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Issachar were sealed twelve thousand. ⁸ Of the tribe of Zebulon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand.
