¹ ¶ And God spoke all these words, saying, ² I am the LORD thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt out of the house of slavery. ³ Thou shalt have no other gods before me. ⁴ Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above or that is in the earth beneath nor that is in the water under the earth. ⁵ Thou shalt not bow down to them nor serve them; for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the sons unto the third and fourth generation of those that hate me ⁶ and showing mercy unto thousands of generations of those that love me and keep my commandments. ⁷ Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain for the LORD will not hold guiltless anyone that takes his name in vain. ⁸ Thou shalt remember the sabbath day, to sanctify it. ⁹ Six days shalt thou labour and do all thy work; ¹⁰ but the seventh day shall be the sabbath of the LORD thy God; in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manslave, nor thy maidslave, nor thy beast, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; ¹¹ for in six days the LORD made the heavens and earth, the sea, and all that is in them and rested the seventh day; therefore, the LORD blessed the sabbath day and sanctified it. ¹² ¶ Honour thy father and thy mother that thy days may be lengthened upon the land which the LORD thy God gives thee. ¹³ Thou shalt not murder. ¹⁴ Thou shalt not commit adultery. ¹⁵ Thou shalt not steal. ¹⁶ Thou shalt not give false testimony against thy neighbour. ¹⁷ Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manslave, nor his maidslave, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s. ¹⁸ ¶ And all the people saw the thunderings and the lightnings and the noise of the trumpet and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it, they trembled and stood afar off. ¹⁹ And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us lest we die. ²⁰ Then Moses said unto the people, Fear not, for God is come to prove you and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not. ²¹ Then the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was. ²² ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses, Thus thou shalt say unto the sons of Israel, Ye have seen that I have talked with you from heaven. ²³ Ye shall not make with me gods of silver, neither shall ye make unto you gods of gold. ²⁴ An altar of earth thou shalt make unto me and shalt sacrifice thereon thy burnt offerings and thy peace offerings, thy sheep and thine oxen; in whatever place where I cause my name to be remembered, I will come unto thee, and I will bless thee. ²⁵ And if thou wilt make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone; for if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it. ²⁶ Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto my altar that thy nakedness not be discovered thereon.

³³ Have a people ever heard the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as thou hast heard, and lived?

³⁶ Out of the heavens he made thee to hear his voice that he might instruct thee, and upon earth he showed thee his great fire, and thou hast heard his words out of the midst of the fire.

⁴ The LORD spoke with you face to face in the mount out of the midst of the fire

²² These words the LORD spoke unto all your congregation in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice, and he added no more. And he wrote them in two tables of stone and delivered them unto me.

³⁸ This is he, who was in the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} in the wilderness with the angel who spoke to him in the Mount Sinai and with our fathers, who received the oracles of life to give unto us;

⁵³ who have received the law by the disposition of angels and have not kept it.

⁷ ¶ And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee and to thy seed after thee. ⁸ And I will give unto thee and to thy seed after thee, the land in which thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting inheritance; and I will be their God.

¹ ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh for I have hardened his heart and the heart of his slaves that I might show these my signs among them ² and that thou may tell in the ears of thy sons and of thy son’s sons the things I did in Egypt and my signs which I gave among them and that ye may know that I am the LORD. ³ Then Moses and Aaron came in unto Pharaoh and said unto him, Thus hath the LORD God of the Hebrews said, How long wilt thou refuse to humble thyself before me? Let my people go that they may serve me. ⁴ For if thou refuse to let my people go, behold, tomorrow I will bring the locusts into thy borders, ⁵ and they shall cover the face of the earth that one will not be able to see the earth, and they shall eat the residue of that which is escaped, which remains unto you from the hail and shall eat every tree which produces fruit for you out of the field: ⁶ And they shall fill thy houses and the houses of all thy slaves and the houses of all the Egyptians, which neither thy fathers, nor thy fathers’ fathers have seen since the day that they were upon the earth unto this day. And he turned himself and went out from Pharaoh. ⁷ Then Pharaoh’s slaves said unto him, How long shall this man be a snare unto us? Let the men go that they may serve the LORD their God; knowest thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed? ⁸ And Moses and Aaron were brought again unto Pharaoh; and he said unto them, Go, serve the LORD your God. Who are those that shall go? ⁹ And Moses replied, We must go with our young and with our old, with our sons and with our daughters, with our sheep and with our cows we must go; for we have a solemn feast unto the LORD. ¹⁰ And he said unto them, Even if the LORD be with you, how can I let you go with your little ones; look at the malice which is before your face. ¹¹ It shall not be so: go now ye that are men and serve the LORD; for that is what ye did desire. And they were driven out from Pharaoh’s presence. ¹² ¶ Then the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the land of Egypt to bring the locusts, that they may come up upon the land of Egypt and eat all the grass of the land and all that the hail has left. ¹³ And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and the LORD brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts. ¹⁴ And the locusts went up over all the land of Egypt and landed in all the borders of Egypt. Very grievous were they; before them there were no such locusts as they, neither after them shall there be such. ¹⁵ For they covered the face of the whole earth, so that the land was darkened; and they ate all the grass of the land and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left; and there did not remain any green thing in the trees or in the grass of the field, through all the land of Egypt.

³ And Moses said unto the people, Remember this day, in which ye came out from Egypt, out of the house of slavery; for the LORD has brought you out of here with a strong hand; therefore, ye shall not eat with leaven.

³⁶ Just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin shall ye have. I AM your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.

⁴³ that your descendants may know that I made the sons of Israel to dwell in tabernacles when I brought them out of the land of Egypt. I AM your God.

¹ ¶ Ye shall make no idols for yourselves nor graven image, neither shall you raise up a title, neither shall ye place any painted stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I AM your God.

¹³ I AM your God, who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their slaves; and I have broken the bands of your yoke and made you walk with your faces uplifted.

⁶ ¶ I AM thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt from the house of slavery.

¹⁵ And remember that thou wast a slave in the land of Egypt and that the LORD thy God brought thee out of there with a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm; therefore, the LORD thy God has commanded thee to keep the sabbath day.

⁴ ¶ Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD. ⁵ And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart and with all thy soul and with all thy might.

⁸ but because the LORD loved you and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, has the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand and ransomed you out of the house of slavery from the hand of Pharaoh, king of Egypt.

¹⁰ And thou must stone him with stones, and he shall die because he has sought to thrust thee away from the LORD thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt from the house of slavery;

¹⁵ And thou shalt remember that thou wast a slave in the land of Egypt, and the LORD thy God ransomed thee; therefore, I command thee this thing to day.

⁶ and the Egyptians mistreated us and afflicted us and laid upon us hard bondage. ⁷ And when we cried unto the LORD God of our fathers, the LORD heard our voice and looked on our affliction and our labour and our oppression. ⁸ And the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand and with an outstretched arm and with great terribleness and with signs and with wonders;

⁵ Therefore, the LORD his God delivered him into the hands of the king of Syria, and they smote him and carried away a great multitude of them captives and brought them to Damascus. And he was also delivered into the hands of the king of Israel, who smote him with a great slaughter.

⁷ ¶ Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, and I will testify against thee; I am God, even thy God.

¹⁰ I am the LORD thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt; open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.

¹ ¶ In that time, said the LORD, I will be the God unto all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people.

³³ But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, said the LORD, I will give my law in their souls and write it in their hearts and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

⁴ Yet I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt; therefore thou shalt know no God other than me, nor any other saviour but me.

²⁹ Is he the God of the Jews only? Is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also,

¹² ¶ For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

¹¹ Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like thee, magnificent in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?

²³ Ye shall not make with me gods of silver, neither shall ye make unto you gods of gold.

⁷ Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

⁵ And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart and with all thy soul and with all thy might.

¹⁴ Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the peoples who are round about you

¹⁸ And the LORD drove out from before us all the peoples, even the Amorites which dwelt in the land; therefore, will we also serve the LORD, for he is our God. ¹⁹ Then Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve the LORD, for he is a holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not allow your rebellions nor your sins. ²⁰ If ye forsake the LORD and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt and consume you, after he has done you good. ²¹ And the people said unto Joshua, No, but we will serve the LORD. ²² And Joshua said unto the people, Ye shall be witnesses against yourselves that ye have chosen the LORD, to serve him. And they said, We shall be witnesses. ²³ Now, therefore, take away, the strange gods which are among you and incline your heart unto the LORD God of Israel. ²⁴ And the people replied unto Joshua, We will serve the LORD our God and hear his voice.

²⁹ However each nation made gods of their own and put them in the houses of the high places which those of Samaria had made, each nation in their city in which they dwelt. ³⁰ And the men of Babylon made Succothbenoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima, ³¹ and the Avites made Nibhaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites burnt their children in fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim. ³² So they feared the LORD and made unto themselves of the lowest of them priests of the high places, who sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places. ³³ They feared the LORD and served their own gods after the manner of the gentiles whom they carried away from there. ³⁴ Unto this day they do after the former manners; they do not fear the LORD, neither do they keep his statutes nor his ordinances nor the law and the commandments which the LORD commanded the sons of Jacob, whom he named Israel, ³⁵ with whom the LORD had made a covenant and charged them, saying, Ye shall not fear other gods, nor worship them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them,

² Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.

²⁵ Whom have I in heaven but thee? And apart from thee there is nothing upon the earth that I desire.

⁹ no strange god shall be in thee, neither shalt thou worship any strange god.

⁴ Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in JAH, the LORD is the strength of the ages:

¹⁰ Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my slave whom I have chosen that ye may know and believe me and understand that I am he; before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.

⁸ Do not fear, neither be afraid; have I not caused thee to hear from of old and declared unto thee beforehand that which was to come? Then ye are my witnesses that there is no God but me, and there is no Strong One that I do not know.

²¹ Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together; who caused this to be heard from the beginning and has declared it from that time, except me, the LORD? and there is no God beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is no one besides me. ²² Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no one else.

⁹ Remember the former things of old, for I am God, and there is no one else; I am God, and there is no one like me,

⁶ and do not go after other gods to serve them and to worship them, and provoke me not to anger with the works of your hands; and I will do you no hurt.

¹⁵ I have sent also unto you all my slaves the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Turn ye now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and do not go after other gods to serve them, and ye shall live in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but ye have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened unto me.

¹⁰ Then Jesus said unto him, Get thee hence, Satan, for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

⁴ ¶ As concerning, therefore, the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no other God but one.

⁶ but to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

⁵ For this ye know, that no fornicator nor unclean person nor covetous man, who is also an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

¹⁹ whose end shall be perdition, whose God is their belly and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things).

¹⁸ Let no one govern you according to their own will under pretext of humility and religion of angels, intruding into those things which they have not seen, vainly puffed up by their fleshly mind,

²⁰ But we know that the Son of God is come and has given us understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. ²¹ Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

¹⁰ And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant and with thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus; worship God; for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

⁹ Then he said unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowslave and with thy brethren the prophets and with those who keep the words of this book: worship God.

¹ ¶ And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron and said unto him, Rise up, make us gods which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we know not what is become of him.

⁸ They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them; they have made themselves a molten calf and have worshipped it and have sacrificed unto it and said, These are thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

²³ For they said unto me, Make us gods, which shall go before us, for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what is become of him.

¹⁷ Thou shalt make thee no molten gods.

⁴ Do not return unto idols nor make to yourselves molten gods. I AM your God.

¹⁵ Diligently guard, therefore, your souls, for ye saw no manner of likeness on the day that the LORD spoke unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire, ¹⁶ lest ye corrupt yourselves and make yourselves a graven image, the similitude of any figure, the likeness of male or female, ¹⁷ the likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged fowl that flies in the air, ¹⁸ the likeness of any animal that moves on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth, ¹⁹ And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun and the moon and the stars, even all the host of heaven, and should be driven to worship them and serve them because the LORD thy God has conceded them unto all the peoples under all the heavens.

²³ Keep yourselves, do not forget the covenant of the LORD your God, which he established with you, and make yourselves a graven image or the likeness of any thing, which the LORD thy God has forbidden thee. ²⁴ For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God. ²⁵ When thou shalt beget children and grandchildren and ye shall have remained long in the land and shall corrupt yourselves and make a graven image or the likeness of any thing and shall do evil in the sight of the LORD thy God, to provoke him to anger,

⁸ Thou shalt not make thee any graven image or any likeness of any thing that is in the heavens above or that is in the earth beneath or that is in the waters beneath the earth.

¹⁵ Cursed is the man that makes any graven or molten image, an abomination unto the LORD, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and puts it in a secret place. And all the people shall answer and say, Amen.

²⁸ And having taken counsel, the king made two calves of gold and said unto the people, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem; behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

⁷ In addition to this, he set a graven image, the idol which he had made, in the house of God, of which God had said to David and to Solomon his son, In this house and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen over all the tribes of Israel, I will put my name for ever;

⁷ Let all those that serve graven images be confounded, those that boast of idols; worship him, all ye gods.

⁴ Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands. ⁵ They have mouths, but they shall never speak; they have eyes, but they shall never see: ⁶ They have ears, but they shall never hear; they have noses, but they shall never smell; ⁷ they have hands, but they shall never touch; they have feet, but they shall never walk; they shall never speak through their throat. ⁸ Let those that make them become like unto them, and every one that trusts in them.

¹⁵ ¶ The idols of the Gentiles are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands. ¹⁶ They have a mouth, but they do not speak; they have eyes, but they do not see; ¹⁷ they have ears, but they do not hear; neither is there any spirit in their mouths. ¹⁸ Let those that make them become like unto them and every one that trusts in them.

¹⁸ ¶ To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him? ¹⁹ The workman prepares the graven image, and the goldsmith spreads it over with gold and casts silver chains. ²⁰ He that is so impoverished that he has no oblation chooses a tree that will not rot; he seeks unto himself a cunning workman to prepare a graven image that shall not be moved.

⁸ I am the LORD. This is my name, and my glory I will not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

¹⁷ They shall be turned back; they shall be greatly ashamed, that trust in graven images, that say to the molten images, Ye are our gods.

⁹ ¶ Those that make a graven image are all of them vanity; and that which is most precious to them is useful for nothing; and they are their own witnesses that they do not see, nor understand; therefore, they shall be ashamed. ¹⁰ Who has formed God? And who cast a graven image that is profitable for nothing? ¹¹ Behold, all his fellows shall be ashamed; for the workmen, they are of men; even if all of them are gathered together and stand, they shall fear and shall be ashamed together. ¹² The smith shall take the tongs; he shall work among the coals; he shall give it form with the hammers and bring forth in it the arm of his strength; though he is hungry and his strength fails: he shall not drink water, even if he faints. ¹³ The carpenter stretches out his rule; he measures it with a line; he fits it with planes; he marks it out with the compass; he makes it after the form of a noble man, in the likeness of the beauty of a man; that it may remain in the house. ¹⁴ He shall hew down cedars and take the cypress and the oak, and he shall strengthen himself with the trees of the forest; he shall plant a fir tree, which shall be nourished with the rain. ¹⁵ The man shall then use of it for firewood; for he will take thereof and warm himself; he will kindle it and bake bread; he will also make a god and worship it; he will fabricate an idol and shall kneel down before it. ¹⁶ He shall burn part of it in the fire; with another part thereof he shall eat flesh; he shall roast meat and shall satisfy himself. Afterwards he shall warm himself and say, Aha, I have warmed myself, I have seen fire; ¹⁷ the residue of it he turns into god, into his graven image; he humbles himself before it and worships it and prays unto it and says, Deliver me; for thou art my god. ¹⁸ They did not know nor understand; for he has anointed their eyes that they not see and their hearts that they not understand. ¹⁹ He does not return to his right mind; he does not have knowledge nor intelligence to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; I have also baked bread upon the coals of it; I have roasted flesh and eaten it and shall I make the residue of it an abomination? Do I have to humble myself before the trunk of a tree? ²⁰ The ashes feed him; his deceived heart inclines him, that he not deliver his soul and say, Is not the lie at my right hand?

¹⁶ They shall be ashamed and also confounded, all of them; all the makers of idols shall go forth ashamed.

⁵ ¶ To whom will ye liken me and make me equal and compare me that we may be alike? ⁶ They lavish gold out of the bag and weigh silver in the balance and hire a goldsmith, and he makes it a god; they fall down and worship. ⁷ They bear him upon the shoulder, they carry him and set him in his place. There he is; he does not move from his place; they cry unto him, and neither does he answer, nor save from the tribulation. ⁸ Remember this, and be ashamed, bring it again to mind, O ye transgressors.

³ For the customs of the peoples are vanity: for one cuts a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. ⁴ They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails, that it not move. ⁵ They compare them to the palm tree, and they do not speak: they must be carried, because they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither do they have power to do good.

⁸ But they shall become altogether carnal and foolish. The stock is a doctrine of vanities. ⁹ Silver spread into plates shall be brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, shall the workman work and the hands of the founder: they shall dress them in blue and purple: they are all the work of cunning men.

¹⁴ Every man is carnal in his knowledge: let every founder be ashamed of his graven image: for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no spirit in them. ¹⁵ They are vanity and the work of scorn: in the time of their visitation they shall perish. ¹⁶ The portion of Jacob is not like them: for he is the Former of all things, and Israel is the rod of his inheritance: The LORD of the hosts is his name.

¹⁰ So I went in and saw; and behold every form of serpent and beasts; the abomination and all the idols of the house of Israel portrayed upon the wall round about.

²⁹ Being therefore of the lineage of God, we ought not to think that which is Divine is like unto gold or silver or stone, bearing the mark of art and man’s imagination.

²⁶ Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away many people, saying that they are not gods which are made with hands ²⁷ so that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought, but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worship. ²⁸ And when they heard these sayings, they were full of wrath and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians. ²⁹ And the whole city was filled with confusion, and having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul’s companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the theatre. ³⁰ And when Paul would have entered in unto the people, the disciples suffered him not. ³¹ And certain of the chief persons of Asia, who were his friends, sent unto him, asking him that he not present himself in the theatre. ³² Some therefore cried one thing, and some another, for the assembly was confused; and most of them did not know why they were come together. ³³ And they drew Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. And Alexander beckoned with the hand and would have made his defense unto the people. ³⁴ But when they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice about the space of two hours cried out, Great is Diana of the Ephesians. ³⁵ Then the town scribe, appeasing the people, said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that does not know how the city of the Ephesians is honored of the great goddess Diana and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?

²³ and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image of corruptible man and of birds and of fourfooted beasts and of serpents.

²⁰ And the rest of the men who were not killed by these plagues did not repent of the works of their hands, that they should not worship demons and the images of gold and of silver and of brass and of stone and of wood, which neither can see nor hear nor walk.

¹⁴ and deceives those that dwell on the earth by those signs which were given unto him to do in the presence of the beast, commanding those that dwell on the earth to make an image of the beast, which has the wound by the sword, and did live. ¹⁵ And it was given unto him to endue the image of the beast with spirit, so that the image of the beast should speak, and he shall cause those that do not worship the image of the beast to be killed.

⁹ And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives the mark in his forehead or in his hand, ¹⁰ the same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb; ¹¹ and the smoke of their torment ascends up for ever and ever; and those that worship the beast and its image and whosoever receives the mark of its name, have no rest day or night.

² And the first went and poured out his vial upon the earth; and an evil and grievous sore fell upon the men who had the mark of the beast and upon those who worshipped its image.

²⁴ Thou shalt not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do after their works; but thou shalt utterly overthrow them and completely break down their images.

⁶ And as the LORD passed by before him, he proclaimed, I AM, I AM strong, merciful, and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in mercy and truth, ⁷ keeping mercy for thousands, letting go of iniquity and rebellion and sin; and by no means will I absolve the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the sons and upon the sons’ sons, unto the third and to the fourth generation.

¹⁴ for thou shalt worship no other god; for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.

⁵ then I will set my face against that man and against his family and will cut him off with all those that fornicated after him, prostituting themselves after Molech.

²⁹ And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.

³⁹ And those that are left of you shall pine away for their iniquity in your enemies’ lands; and for the iniquities of their fathers shall they pine away with them. ⁴⁰ ¶ And they shall confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers for their trespass which they trespassed against me and that also they have walked contrary unto me,

¹⁸ The LORD is longsuffering and of great mercy, letting go of iniquity and transgression and absolving, but by no means absolving the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the sons unto the third and fourth generations.

³³ And your children shall be shepherded in the wilderness forty years and bear your fornications until your carcasses are wasted in the wilderness.

²⁴ For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.

⁹ Thou shalt not bow down to them nor serve them, for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the sons unto the third and fourth generation of those that hate me

¹⁵ (for the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest peradventure the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.

¹⁰ and repays him that hates him to his face, to destroy him; he will not be slack to him that hates him; he will repay him to his face.

²¹ They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God; they have provoked me to anger with their vanities; and I also will move them to jealousy with those who are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with foolish Gentiles.

⁴¹ if I whet the resplendence of my sword and my hand takes hold on judgment, I will render vengeance to my enemies and will recompense those that hate me.

⁷ that ye not enter in among these Gentiles that remain among you; neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear by them, neither serve them, nor bow yourselves unto them,

¹⁶ when ye shall transgress the covenant of the LORD your God, which he commanded you, going in and serving other gods and bowing yourselves to them. And the anger of the LORD shall be kindled against you, and ye shall perish quickly from off the good land which he has given unto you.

¹⁹ Then Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve the LORD, for he is a holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not allow your rebellions nor your sins.

¹⁹ But when the judge was dead, then they would return, and corrupt themselves more than their fathers in following other gods to serve them and to bow down unto them; they did not diminish from their own doings nor from their stubborn way.

² Thus hath said the LORD of the hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way when he came up from Egypt. ³ Now go and smite Amalek and utterly destroy all that they have and spare him not, but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.

¹ ¶ Then there was a famine in the days of David for three consecutive years, and David enquired of the LORD. And the LORD answered, It is because of Saul and because of his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites.

⁶ Let seven men of his sons be delivered unto us, and we will disjoint them, hanging them from a tree, unto the LORD in Gibeah of Saul, whom the LORD did choose. And the king said, I will give them.

²⁹ Seest thou how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has humbled himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days, but in his son’s days I will bring the evil upon his house.

³⁵ with whom the LORD had made a covenant and charged them, saying, Ye shall not fear other gods, nor worship them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them,

⁴¹ So these Gentiles feared the LORD and served their graven images, and likewise their sons and their grandsons; as did their fathers, so do they unto this day.

²⁶ Even with all this the LORD did not turn from the fierceness of his great wrath, with which his anger was kindled against Judah, because of all the provocations with which Manasseh had provoked him to wrath.

¹⁴ ¶ Now after Amaziah came back from the slaughter of the Edomites, he brought the gods of the sons of Seir and set them up to be his gods and bowed down before them and burned incense unto them.

⁴ His sons are far from saving health, and they shall be crushed in the gate, and there shall be no one to deliver them.

¹⁹ God shall lay up his violence for their sons; and he will reward him so that he shall know it.

⁵⁸ For they provoked him to anger with their high places and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.

⁸ O remember not against us former iniquities; let thy tender mercies speedily meet us on the way, for we are very poor.

¹⁵ The haters of the LORD would have submitted themselves unto him, and their time would endure for ever.

¹⁴ Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the LORD, and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.

³⁴ For the jealous rage of a man will not spare in the day of vengeance. ³⁵ He will not regard any ransom; neither will he want to forgive, though thou givest many bribes.

³⁶ But he that sins against me wrongs his own soul; all those that hate me love death.

²⁰ Thou shalt not be numbered with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land and slain thy people; the seed of evildoers shall not be forever. ²¹ Prepare slaughter for his sons for the iniquity of their fathers that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities.

¹⁵ The man shall then use of it for firewood; for he will take thereof and warm himself; he will kindle it and bake bread; he will also make a god and worship it; he will fabricate an idol and shall kneel down before it.

¹⁹ He does not return to his right mind; he does not have knowledge nor intelligence to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; I have also baked bread upon the coals of it; I have roasted flesh and eaten it and shall I make the residue of it an abomination? Do I have to humble myself before the trunk of a tree?

⁶ Behold, it is written before me: I will not keep silence but will recompense, even recompense into their bosom, ⁷ For your iniquities, and the iniquities of your fathers together, saith the LORD, who have burned incense upon the mountains and blasphemed me upon the hills; therefore, I will measure their former work into their bosom.

⁹ ¶ Therefore I will yet enter into judgment with you, saith the LORD, and I will plead with your children’s children.

¹⁸ that thou dost show mercy in thousands and recompense the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their sons after them, the Great, the Mighty God, the LORD of the hosts, is his name,

³ And that likeness put forth his hand and took me by the locks of my head; and the Spirit lifted me up between the heaven and the earth and brought me in the visions of God to Jerusalem, to the door of the inner gate that looks toward the north where the habitation of the image of jealousy was, which provokes to jealousy.

² And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand with part of the vessels of the house of God which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god, and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god.

² ¶ God is jealous, and the LORD avenges; the LORD avenges and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserves wrath for his enemies.

⁹ and said unto him, All these things I will give thee if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

³⁴ ¶ Therefore, behold, I send unto you prophets and wise men and scribes, and some of them ye shall kill and crucify, and some of them ye shall scourge in your synagogues and persecute them from city to city, ³⁵ that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye murdered between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

⁷ The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify of it that its works are evil.

¹⁸ ¶ If the world hates you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.

²³ He that hates me hates my Father also. ²⁴ If I had not done among them works which no other man has done, they would not have sin; but now they have seen them and hate both me and my Father.

³⁰ backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

⁷ because the prudence of the flesh is enmity against God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, neither indeed can it.

²² Shall we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?

⁴ Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore that desires to be a friend of the world, makes himself the enemy of God.

³⁷ And because he loved thy fathers, therefore, he chose their seed after them and brought thee out in his sight with his mighty power out of Egypt,

²⁹ O that there were such a heart in them that they would fear me and keep all my commandments always that it might be well with them and with their children for ever!

⁹ Know, therefore, that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, who keeps covenant and mercy with those that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations

³⁹ and I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me for ever for the good of them and of their sons after them: ⁴⁰ and I will make an eternal covenant with them, that I will not turn away from doing them good, and I will put my fear in their hearts that they shall not depart from me.

¹⁵ ¶ If ye love me, keep my commandments;

²¹ He that has my commandments and keeps them, he it is that loves me; and he that loves me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him and will manifest myself to him.

³⁹ For the promise is unto you and to your children and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

²⁸ So that, as concerning the gospel, I have them for enemies for your sakes; but as touching the election of God, they are beloved for the fathers’ sakes. ²⁹ For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

¹⁹ We love him, because he first loved us.

³ For this is the charity of God, that we keep his commandments, and his commandments are not grievous.

⁶ And this is charity, that we walk after his commandment. And this is the commandment, That ye walk in him, as ye have heard from the beginning.

¹² And ye shall not swear by my name falsely, neither shalt thou defile the name of thy God. I am the LORD.

¹¹ and the Israelite woman’s son pronounced the Name and cursed; and they brought him unto Moses. And his mother’s name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan. ¹² And they put him in ward that the mind of the LORD might be showed them. ¹³ And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying, ¹⁴ Bring forth the one that has blasphemed outside the camp and let all that heard him lay their hands upon his head, and let all the congregation stone him. ¹⁵ And thou shalt speak unto the sons of Israel, saying, The man that speaks evil of his God shall bear his sin. ¹⁶ And he that pronounces the name of the LORD shall surely be put to death; all the congregation shall certainly stone him; the same with the stranger as with the natural, if he pronounces the Name, he shall be put to death.

¹¹ Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him innocent that takes his name in vain.

²⁰ Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God; him shalt thou serve, and to him shalt thou cleave and swear by his name.

¹² Now, therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the LORD since I have showed you mercy that ye will also do the same unto my father’s house, of which thou shalt give me a true sign,

¹⁷ And the men said unto her, We will be exempted of this thine oath which thou hast made us swear in the following manner.

²⁰ This we will do to them; we will let them live lest wrath come upon us because of the oath which we swore unto them.

¹ ¶ Then there was a famine in the days of David for three consecutive years, and David enquired of the LORD. And the LORD answered, It is because of Saul and because of his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites. ² And the king called the Gibeonites and said unto them: (now the Gibeonites were not of the sons of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites; and the sons of Israel had sworn unto them, and Saul had sought to slay them in his zeal for the sons of Israel and Judah).

⁹ Now therefore do not hold him guiltless, for thou art a wise man and knowest what thou should do with him, but thou shalt bring his hoar head down to Sheol with blood.

¹⁴ Sacrifice praise unto God and pay thy vows unto the most High ¹⁵ and call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me. ¹⁶ ¶ But unto the wicked God saith, What part hast thou to declare my statutes or that thou should take my covenant in thy mouth?

⁹ Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and blaspheme the name of my God.

² And thou shalt swear, The LORD lives, in truth, in judgment, and in righteous ness; and the Gentiles shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.

³³ ¶ Again, ye have heard that it was said to the ancients, Thou shalt not perjure thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths; ³⁴ but I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by the heaven, for it is God’s throne, ³⁵ nor by the earth, for it is his footstool, neither by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. ³⁶ Neither shalt thou swear by thy head because thou canst not make one hair white or black. ³⁷ But let your communication be, Yes, yes; No, no; for whatsoever is more than this comes of evil.

¹⁶ Woe unto you, ye blind guides, who say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor! ¹⁷ Ye fools and blind, for which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold? ¹⁸ And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever swears by the gift that is upon it, he is a debtor. ¹⁹ Ye fools and blind, for which one is greater, the gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift? ²⁰ Whosoever therefore shall swear by the altar, swears by it and by all things thereon. ²¹ And whosoever shall swear by the temple, swears by it and by Him that dwells therein. ²² And he that shall swear by the heaven, swears by the throne of God and by Him that sits thereon.

⁶³ But Jesus remained silent. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou art the Christ, the Son of God. ⁶⁴ Jesus said unto him, Thou hast said it; nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power and coming in the clouds of heaven.

²³ Moreover I call God for a witness upon my soul that I have not yet come unto Corinth to spare you.

¹⁶ For men verily swear by the greater, and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all controversy. ¹⁷ In which God, desiring to show more abundantly unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath,

¹² ¶ But above all things, my brethren, do not swear by heaven or by the earth or by any other oath, but let your yes be yes and your no, no; lest ye fall into condemnation.

³ And God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it because in it he had rested from all his work which God created in perfection.

²³ And he said unto them, This is what the LORD has said, Tomorrow is the holy sabbath of rest unto the LORD; bake that which ye will bake today and cook what ye will cook; and that which remains over lay up for you to be kept until the morning. ²⁴ And they laid it up until the morning as Moses bade; and it did not stink, neither was there any worm in it. ²⁵ And Moses said, Eat that today; for today is a sabbath unto the LORD; today ye shall not find it in the field. ²⁶ Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be none. ²⁷ And it came to pass that some of the people went out on the seventh day to gather, and they found none. ²⁸ And the LORD said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws? ²⁹ See that the LORD has given you the sabbath; therefore, he gives you the bread of two days on the sixth day; abide ye every man in his place; let no man go out of his place on the seventh day. ³⁰ So the people rested on the seventh day.

¹² Six days thou shalt do thy work, and on the seventh day thou shalt rest, that thine ox and thine ass may rest, and the son of thy handmaid and the stranger may be refreshed.

¹³ And thou shalt speak unto the sons of Israel, saying, With all this ye shall keep my sabbaths; for it is a sign between me and you throughout your ages; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you. ¹⁴ Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you; those that defile it shall surely be put to death; for whoever does any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people. ¹⁵ Six days shall work be done; but the seventh, the sabbath of rest, shall be holy to the LORD; whoever does any work in the sabbath day shall surely be put to death. ¹⁶ Therefore the sons of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their ages for a perpetual covenant.

³ Ye shall fear, every man his mother and his father and keep my sabbaths. I AM your God.

³⁰ ¶ Ye shall keep my sabbaths and reverence my sanctuary. I am the LORD.

³ Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day shall be a sabbath of rest, a holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein; it is the sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings.

² Keep my sabbaths and reverence my sanctuary: I am the LORD.

⁴ For thus has the LORD said unto the eunuchs that keep my sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and take hold of my covenant; ⁵ even unto them will I give in my house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall never be cut off. ⁶ Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the LORD, to serve him, and that love the name of the LORD, to be his slaves, every one that keeps from polluting the sabbath, and takes hold of my covenant;

²¹ Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt cease; in ploughing time and in harvest thou shalt cease.

² Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day shall be holy unto you, a sabbath of rest to the LORD; whoever does work therein shall die.

¹⁴ And the prince of the synagogue answered with indignation because Jesus had healed on the sabbath, and said unto the people, There are six days in which it behooves men to work; in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day.

² And on the seventh day God finished his work which he had made, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. ³ And God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it because in it he had rested from all his work which God created in perfection.

²⁷ And it came to pass that some of the people went out on the seventh day to gather, and they found none. ²⁸ And the LORD said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws?

⁹ Also thou shalt not oppress a stranger, for ye know the state of the soul of a stranger, seeing ye were strangers in the land of Egypt. ¹⁰ ¶ And six years thou shalt sow thy land and shalt gather in its increase, ¹¹ but the seventh year thou shalt leave it free and release it, that the poor of thy people may eat, and what they leave the beasts of the field shall eat. In like manner thou shalt deal with thy vineyard and with thy oliveyard. ¹² Six days thou shalt do thy work, and on the seventh day thou shalt rest, that thine ox and thine ass may rest, and the son of thy handmaid and the stranger may be refreshed.

¹³ And thou shalt speak unto the sons of Israel, saying, With all this ye shall keep my sabbaths; for it is a sign between me and you throughout your ages; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you.

³² And while the sons of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered firewood upon the sabbath day. ³³ And those that found him gathering firewood brought him unto Moses and Aaron and unto all the congregation. ³⁴ And they put him in ward because it was not declared what should be done to him. ³⁵ And the LORD said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death; all the congregation shall stone him with stones outside the camp. ³⁶ Then all the congregation brought him outside the camp and stoned him with stones, and he died, as the LORD commanded Moses.

¹⁴ but the seventh day is the sabbath unto the LORD thy God; in it thou shalt not do any work, thou nor thy son nor thy daughter nor thy manslave nor thy maidslave nor thine ox nor thine ass nor any animal of thine nor thy stranger that is within thy gates, that thy manslave and thy maidslave may rest as well as thou. ¹⁵ And remember that thou wast a slave in the land of Egypt and that the LORD thy God brought thee out of there with a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm; therefore, the LORD thy God has commanded thee to keep the sabbath day.

¹¹ And thou shalt rejoice before the LORD thy God, thou and thy son and thy daughter and thy manslave and thy maidslave and the Levite that is within thy gates and the stranger and the fatherless and the widow, that are among you, in the place which the LORD thy God has chosen to place his name there. ¹² And thou shalt remember that thou wast a slave in Egypt; therefore thou shalt keep and do these statutes.

¹⁴ ¶ Thou shalt not do violence unto a hired servant that is poor and needy, whether he is of thy brethren or of thy strangers that are in thy land within thy gates. ¹⁵ In his day thou shalt give him his hire, neither shall the sun go down upon it; for he is poor and with it sustains his life, lest he cry against thee unto the LORD, and it be sin unto thee. ¹⁶ The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers; each one shall be put to death for his own sin. ¹⁷ Thou shalt not twist the rights of the stranger nor of the fatherless nor take a widow’s clothing for a pledge, ¹⁸ but thou shalt remember that thou wast a slave in Egypt, and the LORD thy God ransomed thee from there; therefore, I command thee to do this thing. ¹⁹ When thou doest reap thy harvest in thy field and hast forgot a sheaf in the field, thou shalt not go again to bring it; it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, or for the widow, that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hands. ²⁰ When thou beatest thine olive tree, thou shalt not go over the boughs again; it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow. ²¹ When thou gatherest the grapes of thy vineyard, thou shalt not glean it afterward; it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow. ²² And thou shalt remember that thou wast a slave in the land of Egypt; therefore, I command thee to do this thing.

³¹ Likewise that if the peoples of the land bring merchandise or any food on the sabbath day to sell, that we would not take anything from them on the sabbath or on the holy day, and that we would leave the seventh year and remit every debt.

¹⁵ ¶ In those days I saw in Judah some treading wine presses on the sabbath and bringing in sheaves and lading asses with wine, grapes, figs, and all manner of burdens, which they brought into Jerusalem on the sabbath day; and I protested unto them the day in which they sold the food. ¹⁶ There dwelt men of Tyre also therein, who brought fish and all manner of merchandise, and sold on the sabbath to the sons of Judah in Jerusalem. ¹⁷ Then I contended with the nobles of Judah and said unto them, What evil thing is this that ye do and profane thus the sabbath day? ¹⁸ Did not your fathers do this, and did not our God bring all this evil upon us and upon this city? Yet ye bring more wrath upon Israel by profaning the sabbath. ¹⁹ And it came to pass, that when shadow came to the gates of Jerusalem before the sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut and charged that they should not be opened until after the sabbath; and I set some of my servants at the gates, that no burden be brought in on the sabbath day. ²⁰ So the merchants and sellers of all kinds of merchandise lodged outside Jerusalem once or twice. ²¹ Then I testified and protested against them and said unto them, Why do ye lodge about the wall? If ye do so again, I will lay hands on you. From that time forth they came no more on the sabbath.

⁵⁶ And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.

¹ ¶ In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. ² And the earth was without order, and empty; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

²⁸ And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the fowl of the air and over every beast that moves upon the earth.

¹⁷ It is a sign between me and the sons of Israel for ever; for in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.

⁴ In his hand are the deep places of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. ⁵ The sea is his, and he made it; and his hands formed the dry land. ⁶ O come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD our maker. ⁷ ¶ For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand. Today if ye will hear his voice,

²⁷ And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath; ²⁸ therefore the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath.

⁷ ¶ And the first of the sabbaths, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart the next day, and continued his word until midnight.

¹⁵ And he that smites his father or his mother shall be surely put to death.

¹⁷ In the same manner he that curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.

³² Thou shalt rise up before grey hair and honour the face of the elder and fear thy God. I am the LORD.

²⁶ I put heaven and earth as witnesses today that ye shall soon utterly perish from off the land unto which ye pass the Jordan to inherit it; ye shall not prolong your days upon it without being utterly destroyed.

⁴⁰ Thou shalt keep, therefore, his statutes and his commandments which I command thee this day that it may go well with thee and with thy sons after thee and that thou may prolong thy days upon the land which the LORD thy God gives thee, for ever.

¹⁶ Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God has commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God gives thee.

¹⁵ But thou shalt have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just measure shalt thou have, that thy days may be lengthened in the land which the LORD thy God gives thee.

⁴⁷ For it is not a vain thing for you because it is your life; and through this thing ye shall prolong your days in the land, which ye shall pass the Jordan to inherit.

¹⁹ Bathsheba, therefore, went unto King Solomon, to speak unto him for Adonijah. And the king rose up to meet her and bowed himself unto her and sat down on his throne and caused a seat to be set for the king’s mother, and she sat on his right hand.

¹² And as Elisha saw it, he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more, and he took hold of his own clothes and rent them in two pieces.

⁸ My son, hearken unto the chastening of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother: ⁹ For they shall be an increase of grace unto thy head and protection about thy neck.

¹⁶ Length of days is in her right hand and in her left hand riches and honour.

⁵ ¶ The fool despises his father’s chastening, but he that regards reproof shall become prudent.

²⁰ ¶ Whosoever curses his father or his mother, his fire shall be put out in obscure darkness.

²² Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old. ²³ Buy the truth and sell it not, also wisdom and instruction and understanding. ²⁴ The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice, and he that begets a wise child shall have joy with him. ²⁵ Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bore thee shall rejoice.

²⁴ ¶ Whosoever robs his father or his mother and says, It is no transgression; the same is the companion of the destroyer.

¹¹ There is a generation that curses their father, and does not bless their mother.

¹⁷ The eye that mocks at his father, and despises the teaching of his mother, the ravens shall pluck it out of the river, and the young eagles shall eat it.

⁶ ¶ The son honours his father and the slave his master; if then I am a father, where is my honour? and if I am a master, where is my fear? said the LORD of the hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, In what have we despised thy name?

⁴ For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother, and, He that curses father or mother, let him die without recourse. ⁵ But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, Whatever I might have helped thee with is already my offering unto God, ⁶ and now has no need to honour his father or his mother with succour. Thus ye have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition.

¹⁹ Honour thy father and thy mother, and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

¹⁰ For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother, and, Whosoever curses father or mother shall most definitely die.

¹⁹ Thou knowest the commandments: Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.

²⁰ Thou knowest the commandments, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not murder, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.

²¹ ¶ submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

¹ ¶ Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ² Honour thy father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise), ³ that it may be well with thee, and thou may live long on the earth.

²⁰ Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.

⁸ ¶ And Cain talked with Abel his brother, and it came to pass when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and slew him. ⁹ ¶ And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not, Am I my brother’s keeper? ¹⁰ And he said, What hast thou done? The voice of thy brother’s blood cries unto me from the ground. ¹¹ And now thou art cursed from the earth, which has opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand; ¹² when thou tillest the ground, from now on it shall not yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth. ¹³ ¶ And Cain said unto the LORD, My iniquity is greater than I can bear. ¹⁴ Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I hide; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass that anyone that finds me shall slay me. ¹⁵ And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whoever slays Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him. ¹⁶ ¶ And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD and dwelt in the land of Nod on the east of Eden. ¹⁷ And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch; and he built a city and called the name of the city after the name of his son, Enoch. ¹⁸ And unto Enoch was born Irad, and Irad begat Mehujael, and Mehujael begat Methusael, and Methusael begat Lamech. ¹⁹ ¶ And Lamech took unto him two wives; the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah. ²⁰ And Adah bore Jabal; he was the father of those who dwell in tents and of those who have cattle. ²¹ And his brother’s name was Jubal; he was the father of all those who play the harp and organ. ²² And Zillah also bore Tubalcain, an instructor of every artificer in brass and iron; and the sister of Tubalcain was Naamah. ²³ ¶ And Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech, for I shall slay a man for my wound and a young man for my hurt;

⁵ For surely your blood which is your souls I will require; at the hand of every animal I will require it and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man’s brother I will require the soul (or life) of man. ⁶ Whoever sheds man’s blood in man, his blood shall be shed; for in the image of God is man made.

¹⁴ But if a man comes presumptuously upon his neighbour to slay him with prudence, thou shalt take him from my altar that he may die.

²⁰ And if a man smites his slave or his maid with a rod and he dies under his hand, he shall be surely punished.

²⁹ But if the ox were wont to push with his horn in time past and it has been testified to his owner, and he has not kept him in, but that he has killed a man or a woman; the ox shall be stoned, and his owner also shall be put to death.

²¹ He that kills an animal shall restore it, but he that kills a man shall be put to death.

¹⁶ And if he smites him with an instrument of iron so that he dies, he is a murderer; the murderer shall surely be put to death. ¹⁷ And if he smites him by throwing a stone with which he may die, and he dies, he is a murderer; the murderer shall surely be put to death. ¹⁸ Or if he smites him with a hand weapon of wood with which he may die, and he dies, he is a murderer; the murderer shall surely be put to death. ¹⁹ The kinsman avenger {Heb. redeemer} of blood shall slay the murderer; when he meets him, he shall slay him. ²⁰ But if he thrusts him out of hatred or hurls at him by laying in wait, so that he dies ²¹ or out of enmity smites him with his hand so that he dies, he that smote him shall surely be put to death; for he is a murderer; the kinsman avenger {Heb. redeemer} of blood shall slay the murderer when he meets him. ²² But if he thrusts him suddenly without enmity, or has cast upon him any thing without laying in wait, ²³ or with any stone, with which a man may die, seeing him not and casts it upon him that he dies, and was not his enemy, neither sought his harm, ²⁴ then the congregation shall judge between the slayer and the kinsman avenger {Heb. redeemer} of blood according to these laws. ²⁵ And the congregation shall deliver the manslayer out of the hand of the kinsman avenger {Heb. redeemer} of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to the city of his refuge, where he has fled, and he shall abide in it unto the death of the high priest, who was anointed with the holy oil. ²⁶ But if the manslayer shall at any time come outside the border of the city of his refuge where he has fled, ²⁷ and the kinsman avenger {Heb. redeemer} of blood finds him outside the borders of the city of his refuge, and the kinsman avenger {Heb. redeemer} of blood slays the manslayer, he shall not be guilty of his blood. ²⁸ He should have remained in the city of his refuge until the death of the high priest, but after the death of the high priest the manslayer shall return into the land of his possession. ²⁹ So these things shall be for a statute of rights unto you throughout your ages in all your dwellings. ³⁰ Whoever kills any person, the murderer shall be put to death by the mouth of witnesses, but one witness shall not testify against any person to cause him to die. ³¹ Moreover ye shall take no ransom for the life of a murderer who is guilty of death, but he shall be surely put to death. ³² And ye shall take no ransom for him that is fled to the city of his refuge, that he should come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest. ³³ So ye shall not pollute the land where ye are, for this blood shall defile the land; and the land cannot be reconciled of the blood that is shed therein except by the blood of the one that shed it. ³⁴ Defile not therefore the land which ye shall inhabit in the midst of which I dwell; for I the LORD dwell among the sons of Israel.

¹⁷ Thou shalt not murder.

¹¹ But when any man hates his neighbour and lies in wait for him and rises up against him and smites him mortally that he dies and flees into one of these cities, ¹² then the elders of his city shall send and take him from there and deliver him into the hand of the avenger {Heb. redeemer} of blood, and he shall die. ¹³ Thine eye shall not pity him, but thou shalt put away the guilt of innocent blood from Israel that it may go well with thee.

⁹ Why, therefore, hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? Thou hast killed Uriah, the Hittite, with the sword and hast taken his wife to be thy wife and hast slain him with the sword of the sons of Ammon. ¹⁰ Now, therefore, the sword shall never depart from thy house because thou hast despised me and hast taken the wife of Uriah, the Hittite, to be thy wife.

¹⁶ Moreover, Manasseh shed innocent blood very much until he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another besides his sin with which he made Judah sin so that they would do that which was evil in the sight of the LORD.

²² Thus Joash, the king, did not remember the mercy which Jehoiada, his father, had done to him but slew his son; who said when he died, The LORD look upon it and require it.

⁸ He sits in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places he murders the innocent: his eyes are secretly set against the poor. ⁹ He lies in wait secretly as a lion in his den: he lies in wait to catch the poor: he catches the poor when he draws him into his net. ¹⁰ He crouches and hides himself, and many are those who fall under his power. ¹¹ He has said in his heart, God has forgotten; he hides his face; he will never see it.

¹¹ If they say, Come with us, let us lay in wait for blood; let us ambush the innocent without cause.

¹⁸ And they lay in wait for their own blood; they ambush their own souls.

²¹ For, behold, the LORD comes out of his place to visit the iniquity of the inhabitant of the earth against himself: the earth also shall disclose her blood and shall no longer cover her slain.

¹⁵ But know ye for certain, that if ye put me to death, ye shall surely bring innocent blood upon yourselves and upon this city and upon its inhabitants; for of a truth the LORD has sent me unto you to speak all these words in your ears.

²¹ ¶ Ye have heard that it was said to the ancients, Thou shalt not commit murder, and whosoever shall commit murder shall be guilty of the judgment; ²² but I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother out of control shall be in danger of the judgment, and whosoever shall insult his brother shall be in danger of the council, but whosoever shall say, Thou art impious, shall be in danger of hell.

¹⁸ He said unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt not murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,

⁴ And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he has escaped the sea, yet vengeance does not suffer him to live.

⁹ For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not murder, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet, and if there is any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

²¹ envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like; which I denounce, as I have also told you in time past that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

⁹ knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly sinners, for the evil and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,

¹¹ For he that said, Thou shalt not commit adultery, said also, Thou shalt not murder. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou commit murder, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

¹³ For judgment without mercy shall be done unto the one that has shown no mercy; and mercy boasts against judgment.

¹² Not as Cain, who was of the wicked one and killed his brother. And why did he kill him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous. ¹³ Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hates you. ¹⁴ ¶ We know that we are passed from death unto life, in that we love the brethren. He that does not love his brother abides in death. ¹⁵ Whosoever hates his brother is a murderer and ye know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.

²⁰ Moreover thou shalt not lie carnally with thy neighbour’s wife, contaminating thyself with her.

¹⁰ ¶ And the man that commits adultery with another man’s wife, he that commits adultery with his neighbour’s wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely die.

¹⁸ Thou shalt not commit adultery.

⁴ And David sent messengers and took her, and she came in unto him, and he lay with her. Then she purified herself from her uncleanness, and she returned unto her house. ⁵ And the woman conceived and sent and told David and said, I am with child.

²⁷ And when the mourning was past, David sent and brought her to his house, and she became his wife and gave birth to a son unto him. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.

¹⁵ whose ways are crooked, and they are crooked in their paths; ¹⁶ to deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger who flatters with her words, ¹⁷ who forsakes the prince of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God. ¹⁸ Therefore her house inclines unto death, and her paths unto the dead.

²⁴ to keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman. ²⁵ Lust not after her beauty in thine heart, neither let her take thee with her eyes. ²⁶ For by means of a whorish woman a man is reduced to a piece of bread, and the woman will hunt the precious soul of the man. ²⁷ Can a man take fire in his bosom and his clothes not be burned? ²⁸ Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? ²⁹ So is he that goes in to his neighbour’s wife; whosoever touches her shall not be innocent. ³⁰ Men do not take a thief lightly, even if he steals to satisfy his soul when he is hungry; ³¹ and once he is taken, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house. ³² But whosoever commits adultery with a woman has a fault in his heart; he that does it corrupts his own soul. ³³ A wound and dishonour shall he get, and his reproach shall never be wiped away.

¹⁸ Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning; let us solace ourselves with loves. ¹⁹ For the husband is not at home; he is gone a long journey: ²⁰ He has taken a bag of money with him and will come home at the appointed feast day. ²¹ With her much fair speech she caused him to yield; with the flattering of her lips she persuaded him. ²² He went after her straightway, as an ox goes to the slaughter or as a fool to the correction of the stocks, ²³ until the arrow pierces through his liver. He is as a bird struggling in the snare and not knowing that it is against his own life. ²⁴ ¶ Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye sons, and attend to the words of my mouth. ²⁵ Let not thine heart decline to her ways; do not go astray in her paths. ²⁶ For she has caused many to fall down dead; yea, all the strong men have been slain by her. ²⁷ Her house is the way to Sheol, going down to the chambers of death.

⁸ They were as fed horses in the morning; each one neighed after his neighbour’s wife. ⁹ Shall I not visit for these things? said the LORD; and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

²² and of them shall be taken up a curse by all the captivity of Judah who are in Babylon, saying, The LORD make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire; ²³ because they have committed villainy in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbours’ wives, and have spoken a word falsely in my name, which I have not commanded them; even I know and am a witness, saith the LORD.

⁵ And I will come near unto you for judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers and against the adulterers and against false swearers and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and do not fear me, said the LORD of the hosts.

²⁷ ¶ Ye have heard that it was said to the ancients, Thou shalt not commit adultery; ²⁸ but I say unto you, That whosoever looks on a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.

¹¹ And he said unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife and marry another commits adultery against her. ¹² And if the woman shall put away her husband and be married to another, she commits adultery.

² For the woman who is subject to a husband is obligated to the law so long as the husband lives; but if the husband dies, she is free from the law of the husband. ³ So then if, while her husband lives, she belongs to another man, she shall be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from that law so that she is no adulteress if she belongs to another man.

³ ¶ But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not be once named among you as becomes saints, ⁴ neither dishonest words nor foolishness nor low jesting, which are not convenient, but rather giving of thanks. ⁵ For this ye know, that no fornicator nor unclean person nor covetous man, who is also an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

⁴ Let marriage be honourable in all and the bed undefiled; but the fornicators and adulterers God will judge.

⁸ But the fearful and unbelieving and the abominable and murderers and fornicators and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

¹⁶ Likewise he that steals a man and sells him, or if he is found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death.

¹ ¶ And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying, ² If a person commits a sin, a trespass against the LORD, and denies unto his neighbour that which was delivered unto him to keep or left in his hand, or in a thing stolen, or has slandered his neighbour; ³ or has found that which was lost and then denies it and swears falsely, in any of all these in which a man can sin, ⁴ then it shall be that because he has sinned and is guilty, that he shall restore that which he stole, or for the damage of the slander, or that which was delivered him to keep, or the lost thing which he found, ⁵ or all that about which he has sworn falsely, he shall even restore it in the principal and shall add the fifth part more to it, for the one to whom it belongs, and he shall pay in the day of his guiltiness. ⁶ And he shall bring for the expiation of his guilt unto the LORD a ram without blemish out of the flock, in thy estimation, for his guilt, unto the priest; ⁷ and the priest shall reconcile him before the LORD, and he shall have forgiveness for any of all of the things in which he is guilty.

¹¹ ¶ Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another.

¹³ Thou shalt not defraud thy neighbour, neither rob him. Do not detain the wages of the work of the hired man in thy house until the morning.

³⁵ Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, in measurement of land, in weight, or in other measure. ³⁶ Just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin shall ye have. I AM your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt. ³⁷ Keep, therefore, all my statutes and all my rights and do them. I am the LORD.

⁷ When a man is found stealing any of his brethren of the sons of Israel and making merchandise of him or selling him, then that thief shall die; and thou shalt put the evil away from among you.

¹³ ¶ Thou shalt not have in thy bag different weights, a great and a small. ¹⁴ Thou shalt not have in thy house different measures, a great and a small. ¹⁵ But thou shalt have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just measure shalt thou have, that thy days may be lengthened in the land which the LORD thy God gives thee. ¹⁶ For all that do such things and all that do unrighteously are an abomination unto the LORD thy God.

¹⁹ Because he oppressed and forsook the poor; because he has violently taken away houses which he did not build, ²⁰ therefore, he shall not feel quietness in his belly; he shall not escape with that which he desired. ²¹ Nothing is left that he did not eat; therefore, his goods shall not last. ²² In the fullness of his sufficiency, he shall come into anguish; the hands of all the wicked shall come upon him.

¹³ We shall find all kinds of riches, we shall fill our houses with spoil. ¹⁴ Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse: ¹⁵ My son, do not walk in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:

¹ ¶ A false balance is abomination to the LORD, but a just weight is his delight.

¹⁰ For they do not know to do right, said the LORD, storing up violence and robbery in their palaces.

⁴ ¶ Hear this, O ye that swallow up the needy, and cut off the poor of the land, ⁵ saying, When the month is over, we will sell the wheat; and after the sabbath day we will open the storehouse of bread, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit; ⁶ that we may buy the poor for money and the needy for a pair of shoes and sell the refuse of the wheat.

¹⁰ Are there yet the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked and the scant measure that is abominable? ¹¹ Can I be pure with false balances and with a bag of deceitful weights?

³ To complete the evil with their hands, the prince demands, and the judge judges for a reward; and the great man speaks the desires of his heart: and they confirm it.

³ Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goes forth over the face of the whole earth; for every one that steals (as it is written on one side of the roll) shall be destroyed; and every one that swears (as it is written on the other side of the roll) shall be destroyed. ⁴ I brought it forth, said the LORD of the hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief and into the house of him that swears falsely by my name; and it shall remain in the midst of his house and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.

¹⁹ For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:

¹³ and said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.

¹³ And he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you. ¹⁴ And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Oppress no one, neither accuse anyone falsely; and be content with your wages.

⁶ This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief and had the bag and would take from what was put therein.

¹⁰ nor thieves nor covetous nor drunkards nor revilers nor extortioners shall inherit the kingdom of God.

²⁸ Let him that stole steal no more, but rather let him labour, working with his hands that which is good, that he may have to give to him that is in need.

⁶ that no one oppress and defraud his brother in any matter because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified.

¹ ¶ Thou shalt not admit a false rumour; put not thine hand with the wicked to be a false witness.

⁶ Thou shalt not pervert the rights of thy poor in his cause. ⁷ Keep thee far from a false matter; and slay thou not the innocent and righteous; for I will not justify the wicked.

¹⁶ Thou shalt not travel about as a talebearer among thy people; neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbour. I am the LORD.

¹⁵ One witness shall not be valid against a man for any iniquity or for any sin, in any sin which he should commit. At the mouth of two witnesses or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established. ¹⁶ When a false witness rises up against any man to testify rebellion against him, ¹⁷ then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the LORD, before the priests and the judges, who shall be in those days; ¹⁸ and the judges shall make diligent inquisition; and, behold, if the witness is a false witness and has testified falsely against his brother, ¹⁹ then shall ye do unto him as he had thought to have done unto his brother; so shalt thou put the evil away from among you. ²⁰ And those who remain shall hear and fear and shall never again commit any such evil among you. ²¹ And thine eye shall not pity, but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.

⁸ that all of you have conspired against me, and there is no one that shows me that my son has made a league with the son of Jesse, and there is none of you that is sorry for me or shows unto me that my son has stirred up my slave against me, to lie in wait against me, as at this day? ⁹ Then Doeg, the Edomite, who was set over the slaves of Saul, answered and said, I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob to Ahimelech, the son of Ahitub. ¹⁰ And he enquired of the LORD for him and gave him provision and gave him the sword of Goliath, the Philistine. ¹¹ Then the king sent to call Ahimelech, the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his father’s house, the priests that were in Nob; and they all came to the king. ¹² And Saul said, Hear now, thou son of Ahitub. And he answered, Here I am, my lord. ¹³ And Saul said unto him, Why have ye conspired against me, thou and the son of Jesse, in that thou hast given him bread and a sword and hast enquired of God for him that he should rise against me, to lie in wait, as at this day? ¹⁴ Then Ahimelech answered the king and said, And who is so faithful among all thy slaves as David, the king’s son-in-law, who goes at thy bidding and is honourable in thy house? ¹⁵ Did I begin to enquire of God for him today? Be it far from me; let not the king impute any thing unto his slave nor to all the house of my father, for thy slave knew nothing of all this, less or more. ¹⁶ And the king said, Thou shalt surely die, Ahimelech, thou and all thy father’s house. ¹⁷ Then the king said unto the footmen that stood about him, Turn and slay the priests of the LORD because their hand also is with David and because they knew when he fled and did not show it to me. But the slaves of the king would not put forth their hands to fall upon the priests of the LORD. ¹⁸ Then the king said to Doeg, Turn thou and fall upon the priests. And Doeg, the Edomite, turned and he fell upon the priests and slew on that day eighty-five men that wore a linen ephod. ¹⁹ And Nob, the city of the priests, he smote with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and sucklings and oxen and asses and sheep with the edge of the sword.

¹⁰ and set two men, sons of Belial, before him, to bear witness against him, saying, Thou didst blaspheme God and the king. And then carry him out and stone him that he may die. ¹¹ And the men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who were the inhabitants in his city, did as Jezebel had sent unto them and as it was written in the letters which she had sent unto them. ¹² They proclaimed a fast and set Naboth at the head of the people. ¹³ Then the two men, sons of Belial, came in and sat before him; and those men of Belial witnessed against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, Naboth blasphemed God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones that he died.

³ He that does not backbite with his tongue nor do evil to his neighbour nor take up a reproach against his neighbour.

⁵ Whosoever secretly slanders his neighbour, I will cut off; he that has a high look and a proud heart I will not suffer. ⁶ My eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me; he that walks in the way of perfection, he shall serve me. ⁷ He that works deceit shall not dwell within my house; he that tells lies shall not tarry in my sight.

¹⁸ ¶ He that hides hatred has lying lips, and he that utters a slander, is a fool.

¹³ A talebearer reveals secrets, but he that is of a faithful spirit conceals the matter.

⁵ ¶ A false witness shall not go unpunished, and he that speaks lies shall not escape.

⁵⁹ Now the princes of the priests and the elders and all the council sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death; ⁶⁰ but found none; though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses

¹³ and set up false witnesses, who said, This man does not cease to speak blasphemous words against this holy place and the law,

³¹ Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamour and evil speaking be taken away from you, with all malice,

¹⁰ for fornicators, for homosexuals, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine,

³ without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, without temperance, without meekness, without goodness,

¹¹ ¶ Murmur not against one another, brethren. He that speaks evil of his brother and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law and judges the law; but if thou judge the law, thou art not a keeper of the law, but a judge.

⁶ ¶ And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was desirable to the eyes, and a tree of covetousness to understand, she took of its fruit and ate and gave also unto her husband with her; and he ate.

²³ that I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet; I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou should say, I have made Abram rich,

²³ Shall not their livestock and their substance and every beast of theirs be ours? Only let us consent unto them, and they will dwell with us.

²¹ When I saw among the spoils a goodly Babylonish garment and two hundred shekels of silver and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.

¹⁹ Why then didst thou not hear the voice of the LORD but didst fly upon the spoil and didst evil in the sight of the LORD?

² And it came to pass one evening, that David arose from off his bed and walked upon the roof of the king’s house, and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself, and the woman was very beautiful to look upon. ³ And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah, the Hittite? ⁴ And David sent messengers and took her, and she came in unto him, and he lay with her. Then she purified herself from her uncleanness, and she returned unto her house.

¹ ¶ I made a covenant with my eyes; why then should I look upon a maid?

⁹ ¶ If my heart has been deceived regarding a woman, or if I have laid in wait at my neighbour’s door,

³ For the wicked boasts of his heart’s desire and blesses the covetous, whom the LORD abhors.

³⁶ Incline my heart unto thy testimonies and not to covetousness.

²³ Above all else, guard thy heart; for out of it flows the issues of life.

²⁴ to keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman. ²⁵ Lust not after her beauty in thine heart, neither let her take thee with her eyes.

⁸ It is the man who is alone, without a successor, who has neither son nor brother; yet is there no end of all his labour; neither is his eye satisfied with riches; neither saith he, For whom do I labour and bereave my soul of good? This is also vanity and sore travail.

¹⁰ He that loves money shall not be satisfied with money; nor he that loves abundance with increase; this is also vanity. ¹¹ When goods increase, those that eat them are increased; and what good is there to the owners thereof, except the beholding of them with their eyes?

¹⁵ He that walks in righteousness, he that speaks uprightly; he that despises the gain of violence, he that shakes his hands from receiving bribes; he that stops his ears to not hear of blood; he who shuts his eyes to not see evil;

¹⁷ ¶ For the iniquity of his covetousness I was wroth and smote him: I hid my face and was wroth, and he went on rebelliously in the way of his heart.

⁸ They were as fed horses in the morning; each one neighed after his neighbour’s wife.

¹⁷ But thine eyes and thine heart are not but for thy covetousness and for to shed innocent blood and for oppression and for violence, to do it.

³¹ And they shall come unto thee as the people come, and they shall be before thee, my people, and they shall hear thy words, but they shall not do them; for with their mouth they flatter, but their heart goes after their covetousness.

⁶ Thus hath the LORD said: For three transgressions of Israel and for the fourth, I will not convert her because they sold the righteous for silver and the poor for a pair of shoes, ⁷ desiring that there be dust of the earth upon the head of the poor, and to twist the way of the humble: and the man and his father have gone in unto the same maid, profaning my holy name:

² And they coveted fields and stole them, and houses and took them away; so they oppressed the man and his house, even the man and his heritage.

⁹ Woe to him that covets ill-gotten gain by violence for his house that he may set his nest on high, that he may escape from the power of evil!

²⁸ but I say unto you, That whosoever looks on a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.

¹⁵ Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil because I am good?

¹⁵ And he said unto them, Take heed and beware of all covetousness; for a man’s life consists not in the abundance of the things which he possesses.

¹⁴ And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things, and they derided him.

⁴ Retaining it, was it not thy own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? Why hast thou conceived this thing in thy heart? Thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

³³ I have coveted no one’s silver or gold or apparel.

⁷ ¶ What shall we say then? Is the law sin? No, in no wise. But, I did not know sin except by the law; for neither would I have known lust if the law did not say, Thou shalt not covet.

³ ¶ But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not be once named among you as becomes saints,

⁵ ¶ Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth: fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil lust, and covetousness, which is idolatry;

⁶ ¶ But piety with contentment is great gain. ⁷ For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. ⁸ So that, sustenance and covering, let us be content with this. ⁹ For those that desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. ¹⁰ For the love of money is the root of all evil, which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

⁵ Let your conversation be without covetousness, and be content with such things as ye have; for he has said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

¹⁶ ¶ And it came to pass on the third day when the morning came, that there were thunders and lightnings and a thick cloud upon the mount and the voice of the shofar {ram’s horn} exceeding loud, so that all the people that were in the camp trembled. ¹⁷ And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the lower part of the mount. ¹⁸ And all Mount Sinai smoked because the LORD had descended upon it in fire, and its smoke ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.

⁷ ¶ Where shall I go from thy spirit? or where shall I flee from thy presence? ⁸ If I ascend to the heavens, thou art there: if I make my bed in Sheol, behold, thou art there.

²³ Am I a God of the near only, said the LORD, and not a God of the far?

¹⁸ ¶ For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched and that burned with fire nor unto blackness and darkness and tempest ¹⁹ and the sound of a trumpet and the voice of words, which voice those that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more;

³⁰ And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel; for I have seen God face to face, and my soul was saved.

²⁰ He further said, Thou canst not see my face; for no man shall see me and live.

⁵ (I stood between the LORD and you at that time, to show you the word of the LORD, for ye were afraid by reason of the fire and did not climb the mount), saying,

²³ ¶ And it came to pass when ye heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness and saw the mountain that burned with fire that ye came near unto me, even all the princes of your tribes and your elders; ²⁴ and ye said, Behold, the LORD our God has shown us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire; we have seen this day that God does talk with man, and he lives. ²⁵ Now, therefore, why should we die? For this great fire will consume us; if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any more, then we shall die. ²⁶ For what is all flesh that it should hear the voice of the living God that speaks out of the midst of the fire, as we heard, and live? ²⁷ Go thou near and hear all that the LORD our God shall say, and thou shalt tell us all that the LORD our God shall speak unto thee; and we will hear it, and do it.

¹⁶ according to all that thou didst desire of the LORD thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, lest I die.

¹⁹ ¶ For what then serves the law? It was added because of rebellions until the seed should come to whom the promise was made, and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.

¹⁹ and the sound of a trumpet and the voice of words, which voice those that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more;

¹¹ And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place, and they will slay me for my wife’s sake.

¹ ¶ And it came to pass after these things that God proved Abraham and said unto him, Abraham; and he said, Behold, here I am.

¹² And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou anything unto him; for now I know that thou doest fear God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.

²⁵ And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD showed him a tree, which when he had cast it into the waters, the waters were made sweet. There he gave them statutes and rights, and there he proved them ²⁶ and said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God and wilt do that which is right in his sight and wilt give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians; for I am the LORD thy Healer.

¹⁰ The day that thou didst stand before the LORD thy God in Horeb, when the LORD said unto me, Gather the people together unto me, and I will make them hear my words that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth and that they may teach their sons.

² that thou might fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou and thy son and thy son’s son, all the days of thy life and that thy days may be prolonged.

² And thou shalt remember all the way by which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness to afflict thee and to prove thee to know what was in thine heart, whether thou would keep his commandments, or not.

¹² ¶ And now, Israel, what does the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways and to love him and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,

³ thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams; for the LORD your God proves you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

¹⁴ Now therefore fear the LORD and serve him in perfection and in truth and put away from among you the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the river and in Egypt, and serve ye the LORD.

²⁰ And Samuel said unto the people, Do not fear. Ye have done all this wickedness, yet do not turn aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart;

¹⁵ But the former captains that had been before me had charged the people and had taken of them for bread and wine, upon forty shekels of silver; and in addition to this their servants bore rule over the people; but I did not do so because of the fear of God.

²⁸ And unto man he said, Behold, that the fear of the Lord, is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

⁷ ¶ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and chastening.

⁷ ¶ Be not wise in thine own eyes; fear the LORD and depart from evil.

⁶ ¶ By mercy and truth iniquity is purged, and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

¹³ Sanctify the LORD of the hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.

¹⁰ ¶ Do not fear for I am with thee; do not be dismayed, for I am thy God, who strengthens thee; I will help thee always; I will always uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

¹² At the brightness that was before him his thick clouds passed, hail stones and coals of fire.

² Clouds and darkness are round about him; righteousness and judgment are the seat of his throne.

² who dost cover thyself with light as with a garment, who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain,

¹⁶ the only one who has immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto, whom no man has seen nor can see, to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

¹³ Thou didst come down upon Mount Sinai and didst speak with them from heaven and didst give them right judgments and true laws, good statutes and commandments,

²⁵ See that you do not refuse him that speaks. For if those who refused him that spoke on earth did not escape, much less shall we escape, if we turn away from him that speaks from the heavens, ²⁶ whose voice then shook the earth; but now he has promised, saying, Yet even once, I shall shake not the earth only, but also the heaven.

³ Thou shalt have no other gods before me. ⁴ Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above or that is in the earth beneath nor that is in the water under the earth. ⁵ Thou shalt not bow down to them nor serve them; for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the sons unto the third and fourth generation of those that hate me

¹ ¶ And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron and said unto him, Rise up, make us gods which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we know not what is become of him. ² And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden earrings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them unto me. ³ Then all the people broke off the golden earrings which were in their ears and brought them unto Aaron, ⁴ who took them from their hands and fashioned it with a graving tool and made of it a molten calf. Then they said, These are thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

³¹ Then Moses returned unto the LORD and said, I pray thee, for, this people who have sinned a great sin and have made themselves gods of gold,

⁴ And when they arose early on the next morning, behold, Dagon had fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD, and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him. ⁵ Therefore, neither the priests of Dagon nor any that come into Dagon’s temple tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod unto this day.

³³ They feared the LORD and served their own gods after the manner of the gentiles whom they carried away from there.

³⁹ As for you, O house of Israel, thus hath the Lord GOD said: Go, serve ye each one his idols, and hereafter also, if ye will not hearken unto me, but do not pollute my holy name any longer with your gifts and with your idols.

⁸ In their setting of their threshold by my threshold, and their post by my post, and a wall between me and them, they have even defiled my holy name by their abominations that they have committed; therefore I have consumed them in my anger.

⁴ They drank wine and praised the gods of gold and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.

²³ but hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou and thy princes, thy wives and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; furthermore, thou hast praised gods of silver and of gold, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone, which do not see, nor hear, nor know; and the God in whose hand is thy soul and whose are all thy ways, thou hast never honoured.

⁵ and those that worship the host of heaven upon the housetops and those that worship swearing by the LORD and by their king

²¹ Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; ye cannot be participants of the Lord’s table and of the table of demons. ²² Shall we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?

¹⁴ Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers, for what fellowship does righteousness have with unrighteousness? and what communion does light have with darkness? ¹⁵ And what concord does Christ have with Belial? or what part do the faithful have with the unfaithful? ¹⁶ And what agreement does the temple of God have with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God has said, I will dwell in them and walk in them and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

¹⁸ Let no one govern you according to their own will under pretext of humility and religion of angels, intruding into those things which they have not seen, vainly puffed up by their fleshly mind, ¹⁹ and not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, fed and united by its joints and bonds, grows in the increase of God.

¹⁵ But outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the fornicators and the murderers and the idolaters and whosoever loves and makes a lie.

² and I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing.

¹ ¶ And the LORD called unto Moses, and spoke unto him out of the tabernacle of the testimony, saying, ² Speak unto the sons of Israel and say unto them, When any of you offers an offering unto the LORD of animals, of cattle, even of the cows, or of the sheep ye shall make your offering. ³ ¶ If his offering is a burnt sacrifice of the herd, let him offer a male without blemish; he shall offer it of his own free will at the door of the tabernacle of the testimony before the LORD. ⁴ And he shall put his hand upon the head of the burnt offering, and he shall accept it to reconcile him. ⁵ Then he shall kill the bullock before the LORD; and the priests, Aaron’s sons, shall offer the blood and sprinkle the blood round about upon the altar that is by the door of the tabernacle of the testimony. ⁶ And he shall flay the burnt offering and cut it into its pieces. ⁷ And the sons of Aaron, the priest, shall put fire upon the altar and lay the wood in order upon the fire. ⁸ Then the priests, Aaron’s sons, shall lay the parts, the head and the fat, in order upon the wood that is on the fire which shall be upon the altar; ⁹ but he shall wash its intestines and its legs in water, and the priest shall incense it all on the altar, to be a burnt sacrifice, an offering on fire, of a very acceptable aroma unto the LORD. ¹⁰ ¶ And if his offering is of the sheep, namely of the lambs or of the goats, for a burnt sacrifice, he shall offer a male without blemish. ¹¹ And he must kill it on the side of the altar, to the Aquilon before the LORD; and the priests, Aaron’s sons, shall sprinkle its blood round about upon the altar. ¹² And he shall cut it into its pieces, with its head and its fat; and the priest shall lay them in order on the wood that is on the fire which shall be upon the altar; ¹³ and he shall wash the inwards and the legs with water; and the priest shall offer it all and incense it upon the altar; it is a burnt sacrifice, an offering on fire, of a very acceptable aroma unto the LORD. ¹⁴ And if the burnt sacrifice for his offering to the LORD is to be of fowls, then he shall bring his offering of turtledoves or of young pigeons. ¹⁵ And the priest shall offer it upon the altar and wring off its head and incense it on the altar; and its blood shall be wrung out upon the side of the altar: ¹⁶ And he shall pluck away its crop and its feathers and cast them beside the altar on the east part, by the place of the ashes with the burnt fat. ¹⁷ And he shall cleave it by its wings but shall not divide it in two; and the priest shall incense it upon the altar, upon the wood that is upon the fire; it is a burnt sacrifice, an offering on fire of a very acceptable aroma unto the LORD.

¹ ¶ And if his offering is a sacrifice of peace, if he offers it of the bovine cattle, whether it is male or female, he shall offer it without blemish before the LORD. ² And he shall lay his hand upon the head of his offering and kill it at the door of the tabernacle of the testimony, and Aaron’s sons the priests shall sprinkle the blood upon the altar round about. ³ Then he shall offer of the sacrifice of the peace for an offering on fire unto the LORD: the fat that covers the intestines and all the fat that is upon the inwards, ⁴ and the two kidneys and the fat that is on them, which is by the flanks and with the kidneys; he shall take away the caul above the liver. ⁵ And Aaron’s sons shall incense it on the altar with the burnt sacrifice, which shall be upon the wood that is on the fire; and this shall be an offering on fire, of a very acceptable aroma unto the LORD. ⁶ ¶ And if his offering for a sacrifice of peace unto the LORD is of the sheep, male or female, he shall offer it without blemish. ⁷ If he offers a lamb for his offering, he shall offer it before the LORD; ⁸ and he shall lay his hand upon the head of his offering and then kill it before the tabernacle of the testimony; and Aaron’s sons shall sprinkle its blood round about upon the altar. ⁹ And he shall offer of the sacrifice of the peace an offering on fire unto the LORD: its fat and the whole tail, which he shall take off from the backbone and the fat that covers the intestines and all the fat that is upon the inwards, ¹⁰ likewise the two kidneys and the fat that is upon them and that which is upon the flanks and with the kidneys he shall take away the caul above the liver. ¹¹ And the priest shall incense it upon the altar, and this shall be the food of the offering on fire unto the LORD. ¹² And if his offering is a goat, then he shall offer it before the LORD; ¹³ and he shall lay his hand upon the head of it and kill it before the tabernacle of the testimony; and the sons of Aaron shall sprinkle its blood upon the altar round about. ¹⁴ Then he shall offer thereof his offering, even an offering on fire unto the LORD: the fat that covers the intestines and all the fat that is upon the inwards, ¹⁵ and the two kidneys and the fat that is upon them and that which is upon the flanks and with the kidneys he shall take away the caul above the liver. ¹⁶ And the priest shall incense them upon the altar; and this shall be the food of the offering on fire of a very acceptable aroma unto the LORD; all the fat is the LORD’s. ¹⁷ It shall be a perpetual statute for your ages; throughout all your dwellings that ye shall eat no fat and no blood.

²⁴ The LORD bless thee and keep thee; ²⁵ the LORD make his face shine upon thee and have mercy on thee; ²⁶ the LORD lift up his face upon thee, and place peace in thee. ²⁷ And they shall place my name upon the sons of Israel, and I will bless them.

¹³ and he will love thee and bless thee and multiply thee; he will also bless the fruit of thy womb and the fruit of thy land, thy grain and thy wine and thine oil, the increase of thy cows and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he swore unto thy fathers to give thee.

⁵ ¶ But ye shall seek the place which the LORD your God shall choose out of all your tribes to put his name there for his habitation, and thou shalt go there.

¹¹ then there shall be a place which the LORD your God shall choose to cause his name to dwell there; there shall ye bring all that I command you: your burnt offerings and your sacrifices, your tithes and the offerings of your hand and all your choice of vows which ye vow unto the LORD;

²¹ When the place which the LORD thy God shall have chosen to put his name there is far from thee, then thou shalt kill of thy cows and of thy sheep, which the LORD has given thee, as I have commanded thee, and thou shalt eat in thy gates according to all thy soul desires.

²³ And thou shalt eat before the LORD thy God in the place which he shall choose for his name to dwell, the tithe of thy grain, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstborn of thy cows and of thy sheep, that thou may learn to fear the LORD thy God always.

⁵ Thou may not sacrifice the passover within any of thy gates (or within any of thy towns) which the LORD thy God gives thee ⁶ but at the place which the LORD thy God shall choose to cause his name to dwell in; there thou shalt sacrifice the passover in the evening, at the going down of the sun, at the appointed time when thou came forth out of Egypt.

¹¹ And thou shalt rejoice before the LORD thy God, thou and thy son and thy daughter and thy manslave and thy maidslave and the Levite that is within thy gates and the stranger and the fatherless and the widow, that are among you, in the place which the LORD thy God has chosen to place his name there.

² thou shalt take of the first of all the fruit of the earth, which thou shalt bring of thy land that the LORD thy God gives thee, and shalt put it in a basket and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose to cause his name to dwell.

¹² ¶ And it was told King David, saying, The LORD has blessed the house of Obededom and all that pertains unto him because of the ark of God. So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obededom into the city of David with gladness.

²⁹ that thine eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place of which thou hast said, My name shall be there that thou may hearken unto the prayer which thy slave shall make in this place.

⁴³ thou shalt hear in the heavens, in the habitation of thy dwelling place, and do according to all that for which the stranger shall have called unto thee, that all peoples of the earth may know thy name and fear thee as do thy people Israel and that they may know that thy name is invoked upon this house, which I have built.

³ And the LORD said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication that thou hast made in my presence. I have sanctified this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever, and my eyes and my heart shall be there all the days.

⁶ But I have chosen Jerusalem that my name might be there and have chosen David to be over my people Israel.

¹⁶ so that now I have chosen and sanctified this house, that my name may be in her for ever; and my eyes and my heart shall be there perpetually.

¹³ ¶ So King Rehoboam was strengthened and reigned in Jerusalem; and Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother’s name was Naamah, an Ammonitess.

¹² And the God that has caused his name to dwell there destroy all kings and people that shall put to their hand to alter or to destroy this house of God which is at Jerusalem. I Darius have made the decree; let it be done with speed.

⁹ but if ye turn unto me and keep my commandments and do them; though there were of you cast out unto the uttermost part of the heavens, yet will I gather them from there and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to cause my name to dwell there.

⁷ They have set fire to thy sanctuaries; they have defiled the tabernacle of thy name in the earth.

² In Salem also is his tabernacle and his dwelling place in Zion.

⁶⁸ But chose the tribe of Judah, the Mount Zion which he loved.

⁵ The LORD shall bless thee out of Zion, and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life.

¹³ For the LORD has chosen Zion; he has desired her for his habitation. ¹⁴ This shall be my rest for ever; here I will dwell; for I have desired her.

³ The LORD that made the heavens and the earth bless thee out of Zion.

¹⁰ and come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are free to do all these abominations? ¹¹ Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, even I have seen it, said the LORD. ¹² But go now unto my place which was in Shiloh, where I set my name at the first and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel.

¹¹ For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same, my name is great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense is offered unto my name, and a clean offering; for my name is great among the Gentiles, said the LORD of the hosts.

²⁰ For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

²⁰ teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and, behold, I am with you always even unto the end of the age. Amen.

²⁰ Our fathers worshipped in this mountain, and ye say that in Jerusalem is the place where it is necessary to worship. ²¹ Jesus said unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour comes when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem shall ye worship the Father. ²² Ye worship what ye know not; we worship what we know, for saving health is of the Jews. ²³ But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for the Father seeks such to worship him. ²⁴ God is a Spirit and those that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

⁸ I desire, therefore, that the men in every place, pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and strife.

⁵ And there shalt thou build an altar unto the LORD thy God, an altar of stones; thou shalt not lift up any iron tool upon them. ⁶ Thou shalt build the altar of the LORD thy God of whole stones, and thou shalt offer burnt offerings upon it unto the LORD thy God;

³¹ as Moses, the slave, of the LORD had commanded the sons of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, an altar of whole stones, over which no one lifted up any iron tool; and they offered burnt offerings upon it unto the LORD and sacrificed peace offerings.

³ ¶ Then Moses said unto Aaron, This is what the LORD spoke, saying, I will be sanctified in those that come near me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aaron was silent.

⁷ God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints and to be had in reverence of all those that are about him.

¹ ¶ Watch thy feet when thou goest to the house of God and draw near with more willingness to hear than to give the sacrifice of fools, for they do not know how to do what God wants.

²⁸ Therefore, receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us hold fast to the grace, by which we serve God, pleasing him with reverence and godly fear: ²⁹ for our God is a consuming fire.

¹⁶ for it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
