¹⁶ Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king, speaking unto Daniel, said, Thy God whom thou servest continually, may he deliver thee.

³⁹ And I am this day a tender anointed king, and these men the sons of Zeruiah are too hard for me; the LORD shall reward the doer of evil according to his wickedness.

¹⁹ He shall deliver thee in six tribulations, and in the seventh no evil shall touch thee.

³⁹ Tau But the salvation of the righteous is the LORD; he is their strength in the time of trouble. ⁴⁰ And the LORD helped them and delivers them; he shall deliver them from the wicked and save them because they wait in him.

²⁵ ¶ The fear of man brings a snare, but whosoever puts his trust in the LORD shall be lifted up.

² When thou dost pass through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee; when thou dost walk through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

¹⁴ As for me, behold, I am in your hands; do with me as seems good and meet unto you.

⁵ Then Zedekiah the king said, Behold, he is in your hand, for the king can not do any thing against you.

¹⁵ Now, are ye ready when ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and of every musical instrument to fall down and worship the statue which I made? For if ye do not worship, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that god that shall deliver you out of my hands?

¹⁷ Behold, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.

²⁸ ¶ Then Nebuchadnezzar spoke and said, Blessed be the God of these, of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who has sent his angel and delivered his servants that trusted in him and have changed the king’s word and yielded their bodies that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God

⁷ All the presidents of the kingdom, magistrates, governors, great ones, and captains have agreed in common accord to promote a royal decree and to confirm it that whoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, except of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.

²⁰ And when he came to the den, he cried loudly with a sad voice unto Daniel; and the king, in speaking to Daniel said, Daniel, servant of the living God, has thy God, whom thou servest continually, been able to deliver thee from the lions?

⁸ And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John the Baptist’s head in a platter. ⁹ And the king was sorry; nevertheless because of the oath and of those who sat with him at the table, he commanded it to be given her. ¹⁰ And he sent and beheaded John in the prison.

²³ And the governor said, Why, what evil has he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified. ²⁴ When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person; see ye to it. ²⁵ Then all the people answered and said, His blood be on us and on our children. ²⁶ ¶ Then he released Barabbas unto them; and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.

²⁵ And she came in with haste unto the king and asked, saying, I will that thou give me immediately in a platter the head of John the Baptist. ²⁶ And the king was exceeding sorry, yet for his oath’s sake and for the sakes of those who sat with him, he would not reject her. ²⁷ And straightway the king sent an executioner and commanded his head to be brought, and he went and beheaded him in the prison ²⁸ and brought his head in a platter and gave it to the damsel, and the damsel gave it to her mother.

¹⁴ Then Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil has he done? And they cried out the more exceedingly, crucify him. ¹⁵ ¶ And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified.

¹² And from then on Pilate sought to release him, but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar’s friend; whosoever makes himself a king speaks against Caesar. ¹³ Therefore when Pilate heard that word, he brought Jesus forth and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha. ¹⁴ And it was the preparation of the passover and about the sixth hour; then he said unto the Jews, Behold your King! ¹⁵ But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate said unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The high priests answered, We have no king but Caesar. ¹⁶ ¶ So that then, he delivered him unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus and led him away.

²⁷ But after two years Felix received Porcius Festus as successor; and Felix, wanting to win the grace of the Jews, left Paul bound.

⁹ But Festus, willing to ingratiate himself with the Jews, answered Paul and said, Wilt thou go up to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these things before me?

¹¹ For if I am an offender or have committed anything worthy of death, I do not refuse to die; but if there are none of these things of which these accuse me, no one may deliver me unto them. I appeal unto Caesar.

²³ For the angel of God stood by me this night, whose I am and whom I serve, ²⁴ saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar; and, behold, God has given thee all those that sail with thee.

³ For the magistrates are not a terror unto those who do good, but to the doer of evil. Is thy desire therefore to not fear the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same;
