¹² Go and say unto David, Thus hath the LORD said, I offer thee three things: choose one of them, which I will do unto thee.

⁴¹ and that I also have walked contrary unto them and have brought them into the land of their enemies; and then their uncircumcised hearts shall be humbled, and they shall plead because of their iniquity;

⁴³ That the land shall be without them and shall rest her sabbaths, being desolate because of them; and they shall plead because of their iniquity because they despised my rights and their soul abhorred my statutes.

⁹ Why, therefore, hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? Thou hast killed Uriah, the Hittite, with the sword and hast taken his wife to be thy wife and hast slain him with the sword of the sons of Ammon. ¹⁰ Now, therefore, the sword shall never depart from thy house because thou hast despised me and hast taken the wife of Uriah, the Hittite, to be thy wife.

¹⁴ However, because by this deed, thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme; the son that is born unto thee shall surely die.

¹⁷ ¶ Behold, blessed is the man whom God chastens; therefore, do not despise not the correction of the Almighty. ¹⁸ For he makes sore, and binds up; he wounds, and his hands make whole.

¹² For the LORD chastens whom he loves and delights in, even as a father to his son.

⁶ for whom the Lord loves, he chastens and scourges everyone whom he receives as a son. ⁷ If ye endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father does not chasten? ⁸ But if ye are without chastisement, of which all the sons are partakers, then ye are bastards, and not sons. ⁹ Furthermore, we have had fathers of our flesh who corrected us, and we gave them reverence; is it not much better to be in subjection to the Father of spirits, and we shall live? ¹⁰ For they verily for a few days chastened us as it seemed good unto them, but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten; be zealous therefore, and repent.
