^{3 (12:4)} May the Lord destroy all deceitful lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things.

⁹ The enemy said: I will pursue and overtake, I will divide the spoils, my soul shall have its fill: I will draw my sword, my hand shall slay them.

³ Do not multiply to speak lofty things, boasting: let old matters depart from your mouth: for the Lord is a God of all knowledge, and to him are thoughts prepared.

⁴³ And the Philistine said to David: Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with a staff? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. ⁴⁴ And he said to David: Come to me, and I will give thy flesh to the birds of the air, and to the beasts of the earth.

²³ By the hand of thy servants thou hast reproached the Lord, and hast said: With the multitude of my chariots I have gone up to the height of the mountains, to the top of Libanus, and have cut down its tall cedars, and its choice fir trees. And I have entered into the furthest parts thereof, and the forest of its Carmel. ²⁴ I have cut down, and I have drunk strange waters, and have dried up with the soles of my feet all the shut up waters.

²² For I know not how long I shall continue, and whether after a while my Maker may take me away.

¹⁰ They have shut up their fat: their mouth hath spoken proudly.

⁸ They have thought and spoken wickedness: they have spoken iniquity on high. ⁹ They have set their mouth against heaven: and their tongue hath passed through the earth.

²¹ Death and life are in the power of the tongue: they that love it, shall eat the fruits thereof.

¹⁰ As my hand hath found the kingdoms of the idol, so also their idols of Jerusalem, and of Samaria.

² Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre: Thus saith the Lord God: Because thy heart is lifted up, and thou hast said: I am God, and I sit in the chair of God in the heart of the sea: whereas thou art a man, and not God: and hast set thy heart as if it were the heart of God.

⁹ Wilt thou yet say before them that slay thee: I am God; whereas thou art a man, and not God, in the hand of them that slay thee?

³ Speak, and say: Thus saith the Lord God: Behold, I come against thee, Pharao king of Egypt, thou great dragon that liest in the midst of thy rivers, and sayest: The river is mine, and I made myself.

^{30 (4:27)} And the king answered, and said: Is not this the great Babylon, which I have built, to be the seat of the kingdom, by the strength of my power, and in the glory of my excellence? ^{31 (4:28)} And while the word was yet in the king's mouth, a voice came down from heaven: To thee, O king Nabuchodonosor, it is said: Thy kingdom shall pass from thee.

⁸ I considered the horns, and behold another little horn sprung out of the midst of them: and three of the first horns were plucked up at the presence thereof: and behold eyes like the eyes of a man were in this horn, and a mouth speaking great things.

²⁵ And he shall speak words against the High One, and shall crush the saints of the most High: and he shall think himself able to change times and laws, and they shall be delivered into his hand until a time, and times, and half a time.

¹³ Your words have been unsufferable to me, saith the Lord.

¹⁸ For, speaking proud words of vanity, they allure by the desires of fleshly riotousness those who for a little while escape, such as converse in error:

¹⁶ These are murmurers, full of complaints, walking according to their own desires: and their mouth speaketh proud things, admiring persons, for gain's sake.

⁵ And there was given to him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies: and power was given to him to do, two and forty months.
