⁴ If thou shalt seek her as money, and shalt dig for her as for a treasure:

²¹ That look for death, and it cometh not, as they that dig for a treasure:

¹² But where is wisdom to be found, and where is the place of understanding? ¹³ Man knoweth not the price thereof, neither is it found in the land of them that live in delights. ¹⁴ The depth saith: It is not in me: and the sea saith: It is not with me. ¹⁵ The finest gold shall not purchase it, neither shall silver be weighed in exchange for it. ¹⁶ It shall not be compared with the dyed colours of India, or with the most precious stone sardonyx, or the sapphire. ¹⁷ Gold or crystal cannot equal it, neither shall any vessels of gold be changed for it. ¹⁸ High and eminent things shall not be mentioned in comparison of it: but wisdom is drawn out of secret places. ¹⁹ The topaz of Ethiopia shall not be equal to it, neither shall it be compared to the cleanest dyeing. ²⁰ Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?

⁷² The law of thy mouth is good to me, above thousands of gold and silver.

¹²⁷ Therefore have I loved thy commandments above gold and the topaz.

¹⁴ The purchasing thereof is better than the merchandise of silver, and her fruit than the chief and purest gold: ¹⁵ She is more precious than all riches: and all the things that are desired, are not to be compared to her.

¹⁸ With me are riches and glory, glorious riches and justice. ¹⁹ For my fruit is better than gold and the precious stone, and my blossoms than choice silver.

¹⁶ Get wisdom, because it is better than gold: and purchase prudence, for it is more precious than silver.

²³ Buy truth, and do not sell wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

⁸ There is but one, and he hath not a second, no child, no brother, and yet he ceaseth not to labour, neither are his eyes satisfied with riches, neither doth he reflect, saying: For whom do I labour, and defraud my soul of good things? in this also is vanity, and a grievous vexation.

¹⁹ Lay not up to yourselves treasures on earth: where the rust, and moth consume, and where thieves break through, and steal. ²⁰ But lay up to yourselves treasures in heaven: where neither the rust nor moth doth consume, and where thieves do not break through, nor steal. ²¹ For where thy treasure is, there is thy heart also.

⁴⁴ The kingdom of heaven is like unto a treasure hidden in a field. Which a man having found, hid it, and for joy thereof goeth, and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.

²¹ Jesus saith to him: If thou wilt be perfect, go sell what thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. ²² And when the young man had heard this word, he went away sad: for he had great possessions.

²⁹ And every one that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall possess life everlasting.

⁸ And the lord commended the unjust steward, forasmuch as he had done wisely: for the children of this world are wiser in their generation than the children of light.
