³⁰ Having the same conflict as that which you have seen in me and now have heard of me.

³³ These things I have spoken to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you shall have distress. But have confidence. I have overcome the world.

¹⁹ But her masters, seeing that the hope of their gain was gone, apprehending Paul and Silas, brought them into the market place to the rulers. ²⁰ And presenting them to the magistrates, they said: These men disturb our city, being Jews: ²¹ And preach a fashion which it is not lawful for us to receive nor observe, being Romans. ²² And the people ran together against them: and the magistrates, rending off their clothes, commanded them to be beaten with rods. ²³ And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the gaoler to keep them diligently. ²⁴ Who having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison and made their feet fast in the stocks. ²⁵ And at midnight, Paul and Silas, praying, praised God. And they that were in prison heard them. ²⁶ And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. And immediately all the doors were opened and the bands of all were loosed. ²⁷ And the keeper of the prison, awakening out of his sleep and seeing the doors of the prison open, drawing his sword, would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled. ²⁸ But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying: Do thyself no harm, for we all are here. ²⁹ Then calling for a light, he went in: and trembling, fell down at the feet of Paul and Silas. ³⁰ And bringing them out, he said: Masters, what must I do, that I may be saved? ³¹ But they said: believe in the Lord Jesus: and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. ³² And they preached the word of the Lord to him and to all that were in his house. ³³ And he, taking them the same hour of the night, washed their stripes: and himself was baptized, and all his house immediately. ³⁴ And when he had brought them into his own house, he laid the table for them: and rejoiced with all his house, believing God. ³⁵ And when the day was come, the magistrates sent the serjeants, saying: Let those men go. ³⁶ And the keeper of the prison told these words to Paul: The magistrates have sent to let you go. Now therefore depart. And go in peace. ³⁷ But Paul said to them: They have beaten us publicly, uncondemned, men that are Romans, and have cast us into prison. And now do they thrust us out privately? Not so: but let them come. ³⁸ And let us out themselves. And the serjeants told these words to the magistrates. And they were afraid: hearing that they were Romans. ³⁹ And coming, they besought them: and bringing them out, they desired them to depart out of the city. ⁴⁰ And they went out of the prison and entered into the house of Lydia: and having seen the brethren, they comforted them and departed.

³⁵ Who then shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation? Or distress? Or famine? Or nakedness? Or danger? Or persecution? Or the sword? ³⁶ (As it is written: For thy sake, we are put to death all the day long. We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.) ³⁷ But in all these things we overcome, because of him that hath loved us.

⁹ For I think that God hath set forth us apostles, the last, as it were men appointed to death. We are made a spectacle to the world and to angels and to men. ¹⁰ We are fools for Christs sake, but you are wise in Christ: we are weak, but you are strong: you are honourable, but we without honour. ¹¹ Even unto this hour we both hunger and thirst and are naked and are buffeted and have no fixed abode. ¹² And we labour, working with our own hands. We are reviled: and we bless. We are persecuted: and we suffer it. ¹³ We are blasphemed: and we entreat. We are made as the refuse of this world, the offscouring of all, even until now. ¹⁴ I write not these things to confound you: but I admonish you as my dearest children.

³⁰ Why also are we in danger every hour? ³¹ I die daily, I protest by your glory, brethren, which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord. ³² If (according to man) I fought with beasts at Ephesus, what doth it profit me, if the dead rise not again? Let us eat and drink, for to morrow we shall die.

¹¹ Put you on the armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the deceits of the devil. ¹² For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood; but against principalities and powers, against the rulers of the world of this darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places. ¹³ Therefore, take unto you the armour of God, that you may be able to resist in the evil day and to stand in all things perfect. ¹⁴ Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth and having on the breastplate of justice: ¹⁵ And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. ¹⁶ In all things taking the shield of faith, wherewith you may be able to extinguish all the fiery darts of the most wicked one. ¹⁷ And take unto you the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit (which is the word of God). ¹⁸ By all prayer and supplication praying at all times in the spirit: and in the same watching with all instance and supplication for all the saints:

²⁹ Wherein also I labour, striving according to his working which he worketh in me in power.

² But having suffered many things before and been shamefully treated, (as you know) at Philippi, we had confidence in our God, to speak unto you the gospel of God in much carefulness.

¹⁴ For you, brethren, are become followers of the churches of God which are in Judea, in Christ Jesus: for you also have suffered the same things from your own countrymen, even as they have from the Jews: ¹⁵ Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and the prophets, and have persecuted us, and please not God, and are adversaries to all men;

² And we sent Timothy, our brother and the minister of God in the gospel of Christ, to confirm you and exhort you concerning your faith: ³ That no man should be moved in these tribulations: for yourselves know that we are appointed thereunto. ⁴ For even when we were with you, we foretold you that we should suffer tribulations: as also it is come to pass, and you know.

¹² Fight the good fight of faith. Lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art called and be it confessed a good confession before many witnesses.

¹⁰ Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus, with heavenly glory. ¹¹ A faithful saying: for if we be dead with him, we shall live also with him. ¹² If we suffer, we shall also reign with him. If we deny him, he will also deny us.

⁷ I have fought a good fight: I have finished my course: I have kept the faith.

³² But call to mind the former days, wherein, being illuminated, you endured a great fight of afflictions. ³³ And on the one hand indeed, by reproaches and tribulations, were made a gazingstock; and on the other, became companions of them that were used in such sort.

⁴ For you have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.

¹⁰ Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer. Behold, the devil will cast some of you into prison, that you may be tried: and you shall have tribulation ten days. Be thou faithful unto death: and I will give thee the crown of life. ¹¹ He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches: He that shall overcome shall not be hurt by the second death.

¹¹ And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of the testimony: and they loved not their lives unto death.
