⁵⁵ But if you will not kill the inhabitants of the land: they that remain, shall be unto you as nails in your eyes, and spears in your sides, and they shall be your adversaries in the land of your habitation.

³³ Let them not dwell in thy land, lest perhaps they make thee sin against me, if thou serve their gods; which, undoubtedly, will be a scandal to thee.

⁴ For she will turn away thy son from following me, that he may rather serve strange gods, and the wrath of the Lord will be kindled, and will quickly destroy thee.

¹⁶ Thou shalt consume all the people, which the Lord thy God will deliver to thee. Thy eye shall not spare them, neither shalt thou serve their gods, lest they be thy ruin.

³ Wherefore I would not destroy them from before your face; that you may have enemies, and their gods may be your ruin.

³⁴ They did not destroy the nations of which the Lord spoke unto them. ³⁵ And they were mingled among the heathens, and learned their works: ³⁶ And served their idols, and it became a stumblingblock to them.

²⁴ And the house of Israel shall have no more a stumblingblock of bitterness, nor a thorn causing pain on every side round about them, of them that are against them: and they shall know that I am the Lord God.
