³ Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

⁴¹ Therefore I also will walk against them, and bring them into their enemies' land until their uncircumcised mind be ashamed. Then shall they pray for their sins. ⁴² And I will remember my covenant, that I made with Jacob, and Isaac, and Abraham. I will remember also the land:

² And thou shalt remember all the way through which the Lord thy God hath brought thee for forty years through the desert, to afflict thee and to prove thee, and that the things that were known in thy heart might be made known, whether thou wouldst keep his commandments or no.

¹⁴ And my people, upon whom my name is called, being converted, shall make supplication to me, and seek out my face, and do penance for their most wicked ways: then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sins and will heal their land.

¹² And after that he was in distress he prayed to the Lord his God: and did penance exceedingly before the God of his fathers.

¹⁹ His prayer also, and his being heard and all his sins, and contempt, and places wherein he built high places, and set up groves, and statues before he did penance, are written in the words of Hozai.

²³ And he did not humble himself before the lord, as Manasses his father had humbled himself, but committed far greater sin.

²⁷ And thy heart was softened, and thou hast humbled thyself in the sight of God for the things that are spoken against this place, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and reverencing my face, hast rent thy garments, and wept before me: I also have heard thee, saith the Lord.

⁶ Therefore I reprehend myself, and do penance in dust and ashes.

¹ Blessed is the man who hath not walked in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stood in the way of sinners, nor sat in the chair of pestilence:

¹² Embrace discipline, lest at any time the Lord be angry, and you perish from the just way. ^(2:13) When his wrath shall be kindled in a short time, blessed are all they that trust in him.

¹ To David himself, understanding. Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. ² Blessed is the man to whom the Lord hath not imputed sin, and in whose spirit there is no guile.

¹ The spirit of the Lord is upon me, because the Lord hath anointed me: he hath sent me to preach to the meek, to heal the contrite of heart, and to preach a release to the captives, and deliverance to them that are shut up.

² My hand made all these things, and all these things were made, saith the Lord. But to whom shall I have respect, but to him that is poor and little, and of a contrite spirit, and that trembleth at my words?

¹⁸ Hearing I heard Ephraim when he went into captivity: thou hast chastised me, and I was instructed, as a young bullock unaccustomed to the yoke. Convert me, and I shall be converted, for thou art the Lord my God. ¹⁹ For after thou didst convert me, I did penance: and after thou didst shew unto me, I struck my thigh: I am confounded and ashamed, because I have borne the reproach of my youth. ²⁰ Surely Ephraim is an honourable son to me, surely he is a tender child: for since I spoke of him, I will still remember him. Therefore are my bowels troubled for him: pitying I will pity him, saith the Lord.

²¹ And he was driven out from the the sons of men, and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses, and he did eat grass like an ox, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven: till he knew that the most High ruled in the kingdom of men, and that he will set over it whomsoever it shall please him. ²² Thou also, his son, O Baltasar, hast not humbled thy heart, whereas thou knewest all these things:

⁸ I will shew thee, O man, what is good, and what the Lord requireth of thee: Verily to do judgment, and to love mercy, and to walk solicitous with thy God.

² And saying: Do penance: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

³ Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ⁴ Blessed are the meek: for they shall possess the land. ⁵ Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. ⁶ Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice: for they shall have their fill. ⁷ Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. ⁸ Blessed are the clean of heart: they shall see God. ⁹ Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. ¹⁰ Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ¹¹ Blessed are ye when they shall revile you, and persecute you, and speak all that is evil against you, untruly, for my sake: ¹² Be glad and rejoice for your reward is very great in heaven. For so they persecuted the prophets that were before you.

¹¹ And I say to you that many shall come from the east and the west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven:

⁶ And blessed is he that shall not be scandalized in me.

²⁵ At that time Jesus answered and said: I confess to thee, O Father, Lord of Heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to little ones.

¹⁶ But blessed are your eyes, because they see, and your ears, because they hear.

¹ At that hour the disciples came to Jesus, saying: Who, thinkest thou, is the greater in the kingdom of heaven? ² And Jesus, calling unto him a little child, set him in the midst of them. ³ And said: amen I say to you, unless you be converted, and become as little children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

⁴⁶ Blessed is that servant, whom when his lord shall come he shall find so doing.

³⁴ Then shall the king say to them that shall be on his right hand: Come, ye blessed of my Father, possess you the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

¹⁴ Whom when Jesus saw, he was much displeased and saith to them: Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

¹⁸ The spirit of the Lord is upon me. Wherefore he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor, he hath sent me to heal the contrite of heart,

²⁰ And he, lifting up his eyes on his disciples, said: Blessed are ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God. ²¹ Blessed are ye that hunger now: for you shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for you shall laugh. ²² Blessed shall you be when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you and shall reproach you and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake. ²³ Be glad in that day and rejoice: for behold, your reward is great in heaven, For according to these things did their fathers to the prophets. ²⁴ But woe to you that are rich: for you have your consolation. ²⁵ Woe to you that are filled: for you shall hunger. Woe to you that now laugh: for you shall mourn and weep. ²⁶ Woe to you when men shall bless you: for according to these things did their fathers to the false prophets.

²⁸ But he said: Yea rather, blessed are they who hear the word of God and keep it.

¹⁴ I say to you, this man went down into his house justified rather than the other: because every one that exalteth himself shall be humbled: and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

²⁹ Jesus saith to him: Because thou hast seen me, Thomas, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen and have believed.

⁶ As David also termeth the blessedness of a man to whom God reputeth justice without works: ⁷ Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven: and whose sins are covered. ⁸ Blessed is the man to whom the Lord hath not imputed sin. ⁹ This blessedness then, doth it remain in the circumcision only or in the uncircumcision also? For we say that unto Abraham faith was reputed to justice.

¹⁰ And the rich, in his being low: because as the flower of the grass shall he pass away.

¹² Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for, when he hath been proved, he shall receive the crown of life which God hath promised to them that love him.

⁵ Hearken, my dearest brethren: Hath not God chosen the poor in this world, rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which God hath promised to them that love him?

⁹ Be afflicted and mourn and weep: let your laughter be turned into mourning and your joy into sorrow. ¹⁰ Be humbled in the sight of the Lord: and he will exalt you.

⁹ And he said to me: Write: Blessed are they that are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith to me: These words of God are true.

¹⁴ Blessed are they that wash their robes in the blood of the Lamb: that they may have a right to the tree of life and may enter in by the gates into the city.
