¹⁸ And Samuel cried unto the Lord, and the Lord sent thunder and rain that day. ¹⁹ And all the people greatly feared the Lord and Samuel. And all the people said to Samuel: Pray for thy servants to the Lord thy God, that we may not die, for we have added to all our sins this evil, to ask for a king. ²⁰ And Samuel said to the people: Fear not, you have done all this evil: but yet depart not from following the Lord, but serve the Lord with all your heart.

²⁴ Therefore fear the Lord, and serve him in truth, and with your whole heart, for you have seen the great works which he hath done among you.

¹¹ And I said: Hitherto thou shalt come, and shalt go no further, and here thou shalt break thy swelling waves.

⁹ And he said to them: I am a Hebrew, and I fear the Lord, and the God of heaven, who made both the sea and the dry land. ¹⁰ And the men were greatly afraid, and they said to him: Why hast thou done this? (For the men knew that he fled from the face of the Lord: because he had told them.)

¹⁵ And they took Jonas, and cast him into the sea, and the sea ceased from raging. ¹⁶ And the men feared the Lord exceedingly, and sacrificed victims to the Lord, and made vows.

⁵ My covenant was with him of life and peace: and I gave him fear: and he feared me, and he was afraid before my name.

²⁷ But the men wondered, saying: What manner of man is this, for the winds and the sea obey him?

³² And when they were come up into the boat, the wind ceased.

³³ But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.

³⁷ And so much the more did they wonder, saying: He hath done all things well. He hath made both the deaf to hear and the dumb to speak.

³⁶ And there came fear upon all; and they talked among themselves, saying: What word is this, for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they go out?

²⁵ And he said to them: Where is your faith? Who being afraid, wondered, saying one to another: Who is this (think you), that he commandeth both the winds and the sea: and they obey him?

²⁸ Therefore, receiving an immoveable kingdom, we have grace: whereby let us serve, pleasing God, with fear and reverence.

⁴ Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and magnify thy name? For thou only art holy. For all nations shall come and shall adore in thy sight, because thy judgments are manifest.
