¹ And again he began to teach by the sea side; and a great multitude was gathered together unto him, so that he went up into a ship and sat in the sea: and all the multitude was upon the land by the sea side.

¹ The same day Jesus going out of the house, sat by the sea side. ² And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went up into a boat and sat: and all the multitude stood on the shore. ³ And he spoke to them many things in parables, saying: Behold the sower went forth to sow. ⁴ And whilst he soweth some fell by the way side, and the birds of the air came and ate them up. ⁵ And other some fell upon stony ground, where they had not much earth: and they sprung up immediately, because they had no deepness of earth. ⁶ And when the sun was up they were scorched: and because they had not root, they withered away. ⁷ And others fell among thorns: and the thorns grew up and choked them. ⁸ And others fell upon good ground: and they brought forth fruit, some an hundred fold, some sixty fold, and some thirty fold. ⁹ He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. ¹⁰ And his disciples came and said to him: Why speakest thou to them in parables? ¹¹ Who answered and said to them: Because to you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven: but to them it is not given. ¹² For he that hath, to him shall be given, and he shall abound: but he that hath not, from him shall be taken away that also which he hath. ¹³ Therefore do I speak to them in parables: because seeing they see not, and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. ¹⁴ And the prophecy of Isaias is fulfilled in them, who saith: By hearing you shall hear, and shall not understand: and seeing you shall see, and shall not perceive. ¹⁵ For the heart of this people is grown gross, and with their ears they have been dull of hearing, and their eyes they have shut: lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.

¹³ And he went forth again to the sea side: and all the multitude came to him. And he taught them.

⁷ But Jesus retired with his disciples to the sea; and a great multitude followed him from Galilee and Judea,

¹ And it came to pass, that when the multitudes pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Genesareth, ² And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them and were washing their nets. ³ And going into one of the ships that was Simon's, he desired him to draw back a little from the land. And sitting, he taught the multitudes out of the ship.

⁴ And when a very great multitude was gathered together and hastened out of the cities, unto him, he spoke by a similitude. ⁵ The sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell by the way side. And it was trodden down: and the fowls of the air devoured it. ⁶ And other some fell upon a rock. And as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it had no moisture. ⁷ And other some fell among thorns. And the thorns growing up with it, choked it. ⁸ And other some fell upon good ground and, being sprung up, yielded fruit a hundredfold. Saying these things, he cried out: He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. ⁹ And his disciples asked him what this parable might be. ¹⁰ To whom he said: To you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to the rest in parables, that seeing they may not see and hearing may not understand.
