¹⁶ When thon shalt hate her put her away, saith the Lord, the God of lsrael: but iniquity shalt cover his garment, saith the Lord of hosts, keep your spirit, and despise not.

¹ If a man take a wife, and have her, and she find not favour in his eyes, for some uncleanness: he shall write a bill of divorce, and shall give it in her hand, and send her out of his house. ² And when she is departed, and marrieth another husband, ³ And he also hateth her, and hath given her a bill of divorce, and hath sent her out of his house or is dead: ⁴ The former husband cannot take her again to wife: because she is defiled, and is become abominable before the Lord: lest thou cause thy land to sin, which the Lord thy God shall give thee to possess.

¹³ He that hideth his sins, shall not prosper: but he that shall confess, and forsake them, shall obtain mercy.

²⁰ For the bed is straitened, so that one must fall out, and a short covering cannot cover both.

¹ Thus saith the Lord: What is this bill of the divorce of your mother, with which I have put her away? or who is my creditor, to whom I sold you: behold you are sold for your iniquities, and for your wicked deeds have I put your mother away.

⁶ Their webs shall not be for clothing, neither shall they cover themselves with their works: their works are unprofitable works, and the work of iniquity is in their hands.

² The holy man is perished out of the earth, and there is none upright among men: they all lie in wait for blood, every one hunteth his brother to death. ³ The evil of their hands they call good: the prince requireth, and the judge is for giving: and the great man hath uttered the desire of his soul, and they have troubled it.

³¹ And it hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a bill of divorce. ³² But I say to you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, excepting the cause of fornication, maketh her to commit adultery: and he that shall marry her that is put away, committeth adultery.

³ And there came to him the Pharisees tempting him, saying: Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? ⁴ Who answering, said to them: Have ye not read, that he who made man from the beginning, made them male and female? And he said: ⁵ For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and they two shall be in one flesh. ⁶ Therefore now they are not two, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let no man put asunder. ⁷ They say to him: Why then did Moses command to give a bill of divorce, and to put away? ⁸ He saith to them: Because Moses by reason of the hardness of your heart permitted you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. ⁹ And I say to you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and he that shall marry her that is put away, committeth adultery.

² And the Pharisees coming to him asked him, tempting him: Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? ³ But he answering, saith to them: What did Moses command you? ⁴ Who said: Moses permitted to write a bill of divorce and to put her away. ⁵ To whom Jesus answering, said: Because of the hardness of your heart, he wrote you that precept. ⁶ But from the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female. ⁷ For this cause, a man shall leave his father and mother and shall cleave to his wife. ⁸ And they two shall be in one flesh. Therefore now they are not two, but one flesh. ⁹ What therefore God hath joined together, let no man put asunder. ¹⁰ And in the house again his disciples asked him concerning the same thing. ¹¹ And he saith to them: Whosoever shall put away his wife and marry another committeth adultery against her. ¹² And if the wife shall put away her husband and be married to another, she committeth adultery.

¹⁸ Every one that putteth away his wife and marrieth another committeth adultery: and he that marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery.
