¹ And after these things, the Lord appointed also other seventy-two. And he sent them two and two before his face into every city and place whither he himself was to come.

¹⁶ And the Lord said to Moses: Gather unto me seventy men of the ancients of Israel, whom thou knowest to be ancients and masters of the people: and thou shalt bring them to the door of the tabernacle of the covenant, and shalt make them stand there with thee,

²⁴ Moses therefore came, and told the people the words of the Lord, and assembled seventy men of the ancients of Israel, and made them to stand about the tabernacle. ²⁵ And the Lord came down in a cloud, and spoke to him, taking away of the spirit that was in Moses, and giving to the seventy men. And when the spirit had rested on them they prophesied, nor did they cease afterwards. ²⁶ Now there remained in the camp two of the men, of whom one was called Eldad, and the other Medad, upon whom the spirit rested; for they also had been enrolled, but were not gone forth to the tabernacle.

¹ And having called his twelve disciples together, he gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of diseases, and all manner of infirmities. ² And the names of the twelve Apostles are these: The first, Simon who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, ³ James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas and Matthew the publican, and James the son of Alpheus, and Thaddeus, ⁴ Simon the Cananean, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.

⁷ And he called the twelve; and began to send them two and two, and gave them power over unclean spirits. ⁸ And he commanded them that they should take nothing for the way, but a staff only; no scrip, no bread, nor money in their purse, ⁹ But to be shod with sandals, and that they should not put on two coats. ¹⁰ And he said to them: Wheresoever you shall enter into an house, there abide till you depart from that place. ¹¹ And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you; going forth from thence, shake off the dust from your feet for a testimony to them. ¹² And going forth they preached men should do penance: ¹³ And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.

¹⁷ And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias: that he may turn the hearts of the fathers unto the children and the incredulous to the wisdom of the just, to prepare unto the Lord a perfect people.

⁷⁶ And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt, go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways:

⁴ As it was written in the book of the sayings of Isaias the prophet: A voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight his paths. ⁵ Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill shall be brought low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways plain. ⁶ And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.

¹³ Whom when the Lord had seen, being moved with mercy towards her, he said to her: Weep not.

¹ Then calling together the twelve apostles, he gave them power and authority over all devils and to cure diseases. ² And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.

⁵² And he sent messengers before his face: and going, they entered into a city of the Samaritans, to prepare for him.

² And as they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Ghost said to them: Separate me Saul and Barnabas, for the work whereunto I have taken them. ³ Then they fasting and praying and imposing their hands upon them, sent them away. ⁴ So they, being sent by the Holy Ghost, went to Seleucia: and from thence they sailed to Cyprus.

³ And I will give unto my two witnesses: and they shall prophesy, a thousand two hundred sixty days, clothed in sackcloth. ⁴ These are the two olive trees and the two candlesticks that stand before the Lord of the earth. ⁵ And if any man will hurt them, fire shall come out of their mouths and shall devour their enemies. And if any man will hurt them, in this manner must he be slain. ⁶ These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: And they have power over waters, to turn them into blood and to strike the earth with all plagues, as often as they will. ⁷ And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the abyss shall make war against them and shall overcome them and kill them. ⁸ And their bodies shall lie in the streets of the great city which is called spiritually, Sodom and Egypt: where their Lord also was crucified. ⁹ And they of the tribes and peoples and tongues and nations shall see their bodies for three days and a half: and they shall not suffer their bodies to be laid in sepulchres. ¹⁰ And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them and make merry: and shall send gifts one to another, because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt upon the earth.
