⁹ That was the true light, which enlighteneth every man that cometh into this world.

²⁰ To the law rather, and to the testimony. And if they speak not according to this word, they shall not have the morning light.

⁶ And he said: It is a small thing that thou shouldst be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to convert the dregs of Israel. Behold, I have given thee to be the light of the Gentiles, that thou mayst be my salvation even to the farthest part of the earth.

²³ But if thy eye be evil thy whole body shall be darksome. If then the light that is in thee, be darkness: the darkness itself how great shall it be!

¹ I am the true vine: and my Father is the husbandman.

⁴ But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day should overtake you as a thief. ⁵ For all you are the children of light and children of the day: we are not of the night nor of darkness. ⁶ Therefore, let us not sleep, as others do: but let us watch, and be sober. ⁷ For they that sleep, sleep in the night; and they that are drunk, are drunk in the night.

⁸ If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.

⁸ Again a new commandment I write unto you: which thing is true both in him and in you, because the darkness is passed and the true light now shineth.

²⁰ And we know that the Son of God is come. And he hath given us understanding that we may know the true God and may be in his true Son. This is the true God and life eternal.
