³² For John came to you in the way of justice: and you did not believe him. But the publicans and the harlots believed him: but you, seeing it, did not even afterwards repent, that you might believe him.

¹² And immediately he arose and, taking up his bed, went his way in the sight of all: so that all wondered and glorified God, saying: We never saw the like.

Peace in heaven and glory on high! ³⁹ And some of the Pharisees, from amongst the multitude, said to him: Master, rebuke thy disciples. ⁴⁰ To whom he said: I say to you that if these shall hold their peace, the stones will cry out.

² This man came to Jesus by night and said to him: Rabbi, we know that thou art come a teacher from God; for no man can do these signs which thou dost, unless God be with him.

³⁶ But I have a greater testimony than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to perfect, the works themselves which I do, give testimony of me, that the Father hath sent me.

³⁶ But I said unto you that you also have seen me, and you believe not.

³¹ But of the people many believed in him and said: When the Christ cometh, shall he do more miracles than this man doth?

³² From the beginning of the world it hath not been heard, that any man hath opened the eyes of one born blind.

³² Jesus answered them: Many good works I have shewed you from my Father. For which of those works do you stone me?

³⁷ If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.

⁴⁷ The chief priests, therefore, and the Pharisees gathered a council and said: What do we, for this man doth many miracles? ⁴⁸ If we let him alone so, all will believe in him; and the Romans will come, and take away our place and nation. ⁴⁹ But one of them, named Caiphas, being the high priest that year, said to them: You know nothing. ⁵⁰ Neither do you consider that it is expedient for you that one man should die for the people and that the whole nation perish not.

¹⁰ But the chief priests thought to kill Lazarus also:

³⁷ And whereas he had done so many miracles before them, they believed not in him: ³⁸ That the saying of Isaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he said: Lord, who hath believed our hearing? And to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed? ³⁹ Therefore they could not believe, because Isaias said again: ⁴⁰ He hath blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart and be converted: and I should heal them.

⁴⁵ And he that seeth me, seeth him that sent me.

⁹ Jesus saith to him: Have I been so long a time with you and have you not known me? Philip, he that seeth me seeth the Father also. How sayest thou: Shew us the Father?

²² Ye men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him, in the midst of you, as you also know:

³⁸ Jesus of Nazareth: how God anointed him with the Holy Ghost and with power, who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.

³⁰ Detractors, hateful to God, contumelious, proud, haughty, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

⁷ Because the wisdom of the flesh is an enemy to God. For it is not subject to the law of God: neither can it be. ⁸ And they who are in the flesh cannot please God.

⁴ Traitors, stubborn, puffed up, and lovers of pleasure more than of God:

³ How shall we escape if we neglect so great salvation? Which, having begun to be declared by the Lord, was confirmed unto us by them that heard him. ⁴ God also bearing them witness by signs and wonders and divers miracles and distributions of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will.

⁴ Adulterers, know you not that the friendship of this world is the enemy of God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of this world becometh an enemy of God.
