¹⁶ Confess therefore your sins one to another: and pray one for another, that you may be saved. For the continual prayer of a just man availeth much.

²³ And drawing nigh, he said: Wilt thou destroy the just with the wicked? ²⁴ If there be fifty just men in the city, shall they perish withal? and wilt thou not spare that place for the sake of the fifty just, if they be therein? ²⁵ Far be it from thee to do this thing, and to slay the just with the wicked, and for the just to be in like case as the wicked; this is not beseeming thee: thou who judgest all the earth, wilt not make this judgment. ²⁶ And the Lord said to him: If I find in Sodom fifty just within the city, I will spare the whole place for their sake. ²⁷ And Abraham answered, and said: Seeing I have once begun, I will speak to my Lord, whereas I am dust and ashes. ²⁸ What if there be five less than fifty just persons? wilt thou for five and forty destroy the whole city: And he said: I will not destroy it, if I find five and forty. ²⁹ And again he said to him: But if forty be found there, what wilt thou do? He said: I will not destroy it for the sake of forty. ³⁰ Lord, saith he, be not angry, I beseech thee, if I speak: What if thirty shall be found there? He answered: I will not do it, if I find thirty there. ³¹ Seeing, saith he, I have once begun, I will speak to my Lord: What if twenty be found there? He said: I will not destroy it for the sake of twenty. ³² I beseech thee, saith he, be not angry, Lord, if I speak yet once more: What if ten shall be found there? And he said: I will not destroy it for the sake of ten.

²⁹ Now when God destroyed the cities of that country, remembering Abraham, he delivered Lot out of the destruction of the cities wherein he had dwelt.

⁷ Now therefore restore the man his wife, for he is a prophet: and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: but if thou wilt not restore her, know that thou shalt surely die, thou and all that are thine.

¹⁷ And when Abraham prayed, God healed Abimelech and his wife, and his handmaids, and they bore children:

²⁸ But he said: Thy name shall not be called Jacob, but Israel; for if thou hast been strong against God, how much more shalt thou prevail against men?

⁹ Then at length the chief butler remembering, said: I confess my sin: ¹⁰ The king being angry with his servants, commanded me and the chief baker to be cast into the prison of the captain of the soldiers.

²⁸ Pray ye to the Lord that the thunderings of God and the hail may cease: that I may let you go, and that ye may stay here no longer. ²⁹ Moses said: As soon as I am gone out of the city, I will stretch forth my hands to the Lord, and the thunders shall cease, and the hail shall be no more: that thou mayst know that the earth is the Lord's:

³³ And when Moses was gone from Pharao out of the city, he stretched forth his hands to the Lord: and the thunders and the hail ceased, neither did there drop any more rain upon the earth.

¹¹ And when Moses lifted up his hands, Israel overcame; but if he let them down a little, Amalec overcame.

¹⁰ Let me alone, that my wrath may be kindled against them, and that I may destroy them, and I will make of thee a great nation. ¹¹ But Moses besought the Lord his God, saying: Why, O Lord, is thy indignation enkindled against thy people, whom thou hast brought out of the land of Egypt, with great power, and with a mighty hand? ¹² Let not the Egyptians say, I beseech thee: He craftily brought them out, that he might kill them in the mountains, and destroy them from the earth: let thy anger cease, and be appeased upon the wickedness of thy people. ¹³ Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou sworest by thy own self, saying: I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven: and this whole land that I have spoken of, I will give to your seed, and you shall possess it for ever: ¹⁴ And the Lord was appeased from doing the evil which he had spoken against his people.

² And when the people cried to Moses, Moses prayed to the Lord, and the fire was swallowed up.

¹³ And Moses said to the Lord: That the Egyptians, from the midst of whom thou hast brought forth this people, ¹⁴ And the inhabitants of this land, (who have heard that thou, O Lord, art among this people, and art seen face to face, and thy cloud protecteth them, and thou goest before them in a pillar of a cloud by day, and in a pillar of fire by night,) ¹⁵ May hear that thou hast killed so great a multitude as it were one man and may say: ¹⁶ He could not bring the people into the land for which he had sworn, therefore did he kill them in the wilderness. ¹⁷ Let then the strength of the Lord be magnified, as thou hast sworn, saying: ¹⁸ The Lord is patient and full of mercy, by taking away iniquity and wickedness, and leaving no man clear, who visitest the sins of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation. ¹⁹ Forgive, I beseech thee, the sins of this people, according to the greatness of thy mercy, as thou hast been merciful to them from their going out of Egypt unto this place. ²⁰ And the Lord said: I have forgiven according to thy word.

⁷ Upon which they came to Moses, and said; We have sinned, because we have spoken against the Lord and thee: pray that he may take away these serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people. ⁸ And the Lord said to him: Make a brazen serpent, and set it up for a sign: whosoever being struck shall look on it, shall live. ⁹ Moses therefore made a brazen serpent, and set it up for a sign: which when they that were bitten looked upon, they were healed.

¹⁸ And I fell down before the Lord as before, forty days and nights neither eating bread, nor drinking water, for all your sins, which you had committed against the Lord, and had provoked him to wrath: ¹⁹ For I feared his indignation and anger, wherewith being moved against you, he would have destroyed you. And the Lord heard me this time also. ²⁰ And he was exceeding angry against Aaron also, and would have destroyed him, and I prayed in like manner for him.

¹² Then Josue spoke to the Lord, in the day that he delivered the Amorrhite in the sight of the children of Israel, and he said before them: Move not, O sun, toward Gabaon, nor thou, O moon, toward the valley of Ajalon.

¹⁸ And Samuel cried unto the Lord, and the Lord sent thunder and rain that day.

¹⁹ Said to him: Impute not to me, my lord, the iniquity, nor remember the injuries of thy servant on the day that thou, my lord, the king, wentest out of Jerusalem, nor lay it up in thy heart, O king.

⁶ And the king said to the man of God: Entreat the face of the Lord thy God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored to me. And the man of God besought the face of the Lord, and the king's hand was restored to him, and it became as it was before.

¹⁸ And she said to Elias: What have I to do with thee, thou man of God? art thou come to me, that my iniquities should be remembered, and that thou shouldst kill my son? ¹⁹ And Elias said to her: Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him into the upper chamber where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed. ²⁰ And he cried to the Lord, and said: O Lord, my God, hast thou afflicted also the widow, with whom I am after a sort maintained, so as to kill her son? ²¹ And he stretched, and measured himself upon the child three times, and cried to the Lord, and said: O Lord, my God, let the soul of this child, I beseech thee, return into his body. ²² And the Lord heard the voice of Elias: and the soul of the child returned into him, and he revived. ²³ And Elias took the child, and brought him down from the upper chamber to the house below, and delivered him to his mother, and said to her: Behold thy son liveth. ²⁴ And the woman said to Elias: Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and the word of the Lord in thy mouth is true.

³³ And going in, he shut the door upon him, and upon the child, and prayed to the Lord. ³⁴ And he went up, and lay upon the child: and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands: and he bowed himself upon him, and the child's flesh grew warm. ³⁵ Then he returned and walked in the house, once to and fro: and he went up, and lay upon him: and the child gaped seven times, and opened his eyes.

¹⁵ And he prayed in his sight, saying: O Lord God of Israel, who sittest upon the cherubims, thou alone art the God of all the kings of the earth: thou madest heaven and earth: ¹⁶ Incline thy ear, and hear: open, O Lord, thy eyes and see: and hear all the words of Sennacherib, who hath sent to upbraid unto us the living God. ¹⁷ Of a truth, O Lord, the kings of the Assyrians have destroyed nations, and the lands of them all. ¹⁸ And they have cast their gods into the fire: for they were not gods, but the work of men's hands, of wood and stone, and they destroyed them. ¹⁹ Now therefore, O Lord our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the Lord, the only God. ²⁰ And Isaias, the son of Amos, sent to Ezechias, saying: Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel: I have heard the prayer thou hast made to me concerning Sennacherib, king of the Assyrians.

² And he turned his face to the wall, and prayed to the Lord, saying: ³ I beseech thee, O Lord, remember how I have walked before thee in truth, and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is pleasing before thee. And Ezechias wept with much weeping. ⁴ And before Isaias was gone out of the middle of the court, the word of the Lord came to him, saying: ⁵ Go back, and tell Ezechias, the captain of my people: Thus saith the Lord, the God of David, thy father: I have heard thy prayer, and I have seen thy tears: and behold I have healed thee: on the third day thou shalt go up to the temple of the Lord.

¹¹ And he called upon the Lord God, and said: Lord, there is no difference with thee, whether thou help with few, or with many: help us, O Lord our God: for with confidence in thee, and in thy name we are come against this multitude. O Lord thou art our God, let not man prevail against thee. ¹² And the Lord terrified the Ethiopians before Asa and Juda: and the Ethiopians fled.

²⁰ And the Lord heard him, and was merciful to the people.

²⁰ And Ezechias the king, and Isaias the prophet the son of Amos, prayed against this blasphemy, and cried out to heaven. ²¹ And the Lord sent an angel, who cut off all the stout men and the warriors, and the captains of the army of the king of the Assyrians: and he returned with disgrace into his own country. And when he was come into the house of his god, his sons that came out of his bowels, slew him with the sword. ²² And the Lord saved Ezechias and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, out of the hand of Sennacherib king of the Assyrians, and out of the hand of all, and gave them treasures on every side.

⁸ Take unto you therefore seven oxen and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer for yourselves a holocaust, and my servant Job shall pray for you: his face I will accept, that folly be not imputed to you: for you have not spoken right things before me, as my servant Job hath.

¹⁷ The Lord hath heard the desire of the poor: thy ear hath heard the preparation of their heart. ¹⁸ To judge for the fatherless and for the humble, that man may no more presume to magnify himself upon earth.

^{15 (34:16)} The eyes of the Lord are upon the just: and his ears unto their prayers.

¹⁸ The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him: to all that call upon him in truth. ¹⁹ He will do the will of them that fear him: and he will hear their prayer, and save them.

⁸ The victims of the wicked are abominable to the Lord: the vows of the just are acceptable.

²⁹ The Lord is far from the wicked: and he will hear the prayers of the just.

⁹ He that turneth away his ears from hearing the law, his prayer shall be an abomination.

¹ And the Lord said to me: If Moses and Samuel shall stand before me, my soul is not towards this people: cast them out from my sight, and let them go forth.

¹² And you shall call upon me, and you shall go. and you shall pray to me, and I will hear you. ¹³ You shall seek me, and shall find me: when you shall seek me with all your heart.

³ Cry to me and I will hear thee: and I will shew thee great things, and sure things which thou knowest not.

¹⁸ To the end that they should ask mercy at the face of the God of heaven, concerning this secret, and that Daniel and his companions might not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. ¹⁹ Then was the mystery revealed to Daniel by a vision in the night: and Daniel blessed the God of heaven, ²⁰ And speaking, he said: Blessed be the name of the Lord from eternity and for evermore: for wisdom and fortitude are his. ²¹ And he changeth times and ages: taketh away kingdoms, and establisheth them: giveth wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to them that have understanding: ²² He revealeth deep and hidden things, and knoweth what is in darkness: and light is with him. ²³ To thee, O God of our fathers, I give thanks, and I praise thee: because thou hast given me wisdom and strength: and now thou hast shewn me what we desired of thee, for thou hast made known to us the king's discourse.

²⁰ Now while I was yet speaking, and praying, and confessing my sins, and the sins of my people of Israel, and presenting my supplications in the sight of my God, for the holy mountain of my God: ²¹ As I was yet speaking in prayer, behold the man, Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, flying swiftly, touched me at the time of the evening sacrifice. ²² And he instructed me, and spoke to me, and said: O Daniel, I am now come forth to teach thee, and that thou mightest understand.

³ In the womb he supplanted his brother: and by his strength he had success with an angel. ⁴ And he prevailed over the angel, and was strengthened: he wept, and made supplication to him: he found him in Bethel, and there he spoke with us.

⁶ And were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.

⁷ Ask, and it shall be given you: seek, and you shall find: knock, and it shall be opened to you. ⁸ For every one that asketh, receiveth: and he that seeketh, findeth: and to him that knocketh, it shall be opened. ⁹ Or what man is there among you, of whom if his son shall ask bread, will he reach him a stone? ¹⁰ Or if he shall ask him a fish, will he reach him a serpent? ¹¹ If you then being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children: how much more will your Father who is in heaven, give good things to them that ask him?

¹⁵ But if thy brother shall offend against thee, go, and rebuke him between thee and him alone. If he shall hear thee, thou shalt gain thy brother. ¹⁶ And if he will not hear thee, take with thee one or two more: that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may stand. ¹⁷ And if he will not hear them: tell the church. And if he will not hear the church, let him be to thee as the heathen and publican.

²² And all things whatsoever you shall ask in prayer believing, you shall receive.

³ And when he had heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the ancients of the Jews, desiring him to come and heal his servant. ⁴ And when they came to Jesus, they besought him earnestly, saying to him: He is worthy that thou shouldest do this for him.

⁶ And going out, they went about through the towns, preaching the gospel and healing every where.

¹¹ And which of you, if he ask his father bread, will he give him a stone? Or a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? ¹² Or if he shall ask an egg, will he reach him a scorpion? ¹³ If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father from heaven give the good Spirit to them that ask him?

¹ And he spoke also a parable to them, that we ought always to pray and not to faint, ² Saying: There was a judge in a certain city, who feared not God nor regarded man. ³ And there was a certain widow in that city; and she came to him, saying: Avenge me of my adversary. ⁴ And he would not for a long time. But afterwards he said within himself: Although I fear not God nor regard man, ⁵ Yet because this widow is troublesome to me, I will avenge her, lest continually coming she weary me. ⁶ And the Lord said: Hear what the unjust judge saith. ⁷ And will not God revenge his elect who cry to him day and night? And will he have patience in their regard? ⁸ I say to you that he will quickly revenge them. But yet the Son of man, when he cometh, shall he find, think you, faith on earth?

³¹ Now we know that God doth not hear sinners: but if a man be a server of God and doth his, will, him he heareth.

²⁴ Who having heard it, with one accord lifted up their voice to God and said: Lord, thou art he that didst make heaven and earth, the sea and all things that are in them. ²⁵ Who, by the Holy Ghost, by the mouth of our father David, thy servant, hast said: Why did the Gentiles rage: and the people meditate vain things? ²⁶ The kings of the earth stood up: and the princes assembled together against the Lord and his Christ. ²⁷ For of a truth there assembled together in this city against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, ²⁸ To do what thy hand and thy counsel decreed to be done. ²⁹ And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants that with all confidence they may speak thy word, ³⁰ By stretching forth thy hand to cures and signs and wonders, to be done by the name of thy holy Son, Jesus. ³¹ And when they had prayed, the place was moved wherein they were assembled: and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost: and they spoke the word of God with confidence.

³⁸ Jesus of Nazareth: how God anointed him with the Holy Ghost and with power, who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.

⁵ Peter therefore was kept in prison. But prayer was made without ceasing by the church unto God for him. ⁶ And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison. ⁷ And behold an angel of the Lord stood by him and a light shined in the room. And he, striking Peter on the side, raised him up, saying: Arise quickly. And the chains fell off from his hands. ⁸ And the angel said to him: Gird thyself and put on thy sandals. And he did so. And he said to him: Cast thy garment about thee and follow me, ⁹ And going out, he followed him. And he knew not that it was true which was done by the angel: but thought he saw a vision. ¹⁰ And passing through the first and the second ward, they came to the iron gate that leadeth to the city which of itself opened to them. And going out, they passed on through one street. And immediately the angel departed from him. ¹¹ And Peter coming to himself, said: Now I know in very deed that the Lord hath sent his angel and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.

¹⁸ And many of them that believed came, confessing and declaring their deeds

¹⁰ As it is written: There is not any man just.

¹⁹ For as by the disobedience of one man, many were made sinners: so also by the obedience of one, many shall be made just.

⁹ Therefore we also, from the day that we heard it, cease not to pray for you and to beg that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will, in all wisdom and spiritual understanding:

¹⁷ Pray without ceasing.

²³ And may the God of peace himself sanctify you in all things: that your whole spirit and soul and body may be preserved blameless in the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

²⁵ Brethren, pray for us.

⁴ By faith Abel offered to God a sacrifice exceeding that of Cain, by which he obtained a testimony that he was just, God giving testimony to his gifts. And by it he being dead yet speaketh.

⁷ By faith Noe, having received an answer concerning those things which as yet were not seen, moved with fear, framed the ark for the saving of his house: by the which he condemned the world and was instituted heir of the justice which is by faith.

¹³ And make straight steps with your feet: that no one, halting, may go out of the way; but rather be healed.

¹⁸ Pray for us. For we trust we have a good conscience, being willing to behave ourselves well in all things.

²⁴ Who his own self bore our sins in his body upon the tree: that we, being dead to sins, should live to justice: by whose stripes you were healed.

²² And whatsoever we shall ask, we shall receive of him: because we keep his commandments and do those things which are pleasing in his sight.
