⁶⁷ Who brought her into the tent of Sara his mother, and took her to wife: and he loved her so much, that it moderated the sorrow which was occasioned by his mother's death.

²² And the Lord God built the rib which he took from Adam into a woman: and brought her to Adam. ²³ And Adam said: This now is bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, because she was taken out of man. ²⁴ Wherefore a man shall leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they shall be two in one flesh.

⁶ Abraham made haste into the tent to Sara, and said to her: Make haste, temper together three measures of flour, and make cakes upon the hearth.

⁹ And when they had eaten, they said to him: Where is Sara thy wife? He answered: Lo she is in the tent. ¹⁰ And he said to him: I will return and come to thee at this time, life accompanying, and Sara, thy wife, shall have a son. Which when Sara heard, she laughed behind the door of the tent.

¹ And Sara lived a hundred and twenty-seven years. ² And she died in the city of Arbee which is Hebron, in the land of Chanaan: and Abraham came to mourn and weep for her.

²⁰ Who when he was forty years old, took to wife Rebecca the daughter of Bathuel the Syrian of Mesopotamia, sister to Laban.

¹⁸ And Jacob being in love with her, said: I will serve thee seven years for Rachel, thy younger daughter.

³⁵ And all his children being gathered together to comfort their father in his sorrow, he would not receive comfort, but said: I will go down to my son into hell, mourning. And whilst he continued weeping,

¹² And after many days were past: the daughter of Sue the wife of Juda died: and when he had taken comfort after his mourning, he went up to Thamnas, to the shearers of his sheep, he and Hiras the Odollamite, the shepherd of his flock.

² I will take hold of thee, and bring thee into my mother's house: there thou shalt teach me, and I will give thee a cup of spiced wine and new wine of my pomegranates.

¹ Give praise, O thou barren, that bearest not: sing forth praise, and make a joyful noise, thou that didst not travail with child: for many are the children of the desolate, more than of her that hath a husband, saith the Lord. ² Enlarge the place of thy tent, and stretch out the skins of thy tabernacles, spare not: lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes. ³ For thou shalt pass on to the right hand, and to the left: and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and shall inhabit the desolate cities. ⁴ Fear not, for thou shalt not be confounded, nor blush: for thou shalt not be put to shame, because thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt remember no more the reproach of thy widowhood. ⁵ For he that made thee shall rule over thee, the Lord of hosts is his name: and thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, shall be called the God of all the earth.

¹ Would to God you could bear with some little of my folly! But do bear with me. ² For I am jealous of you with the jealousy of God. For I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

²² Let women be subject to their husbands, as to the Lord: ²³ Because the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ is the head of the church. He is the saviour of his body. ²⁴ Therefore as the church is subject to Christ: so also let the wives be to their husbands in all things. ²⁵ Husbands, love your wives, as Christ also loved the church and delivered himself up for it: ²⁶ That he might sanctify it, cleansing it by the laver of water in the word of life: ²⁷ That he might present it to himself, a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. ²⁸ So also ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. ²⁹ For no man ever hated his own flesh, but nourisheth and cherisheth it, as also Christ doth the church: ³⁰ Because we are members of him, body, of his flesh and of his bones. ³¹ For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother: and shall cleave to his wife. And they shall be two in one flesh. ³² This is a great sacrament: but I speak in Christ and in the church. ³³ Nevertheless, let every one of you in particular love for his wife as himself: And let the wife fear her husband.

^{13 (4:12)} And we will not have you ignorant brethren, concerning them that are asleep, that you be not sorrowful, even as others who have no hope.

^{15 (4:14)} For this we say unto you in the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who remain unto the coming of the Lord, shall not prevent them who have slept.
