⁷ Now therefore restore the man his wife, for he is a prophet: and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: but if thou wilt not restore her, know that thou shalt surely die, thou and all that are thine.

¹⁷ But of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat. For in what day soever thou shalt eat of it, thou shalt die the death.

¹⁵ And the princes told Pharao, and praised her before him: and the woman was taken into the house of Pharao.

¹⁷ But the Lord scourged Pharao and his house with most grievous stripes for Sarai, Abram's wife.

¹⁸ For the Lord had closed up every womb of the house of Abimelech, on account of Sara, Abraham's wife.

¹⁶ He shall speak in thy stead to the people, and shall be thy mouth: but thou shalt be to him in those things that pertain to God.

¹ And the Lord said to Moses: Behold, I have appointed thee the god of Pharao; and Aaron, thy brother, shall be thy prophet.

¹ And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt: ² This month shall be to you the beginning of months; it shall be the first in the months of the year. ³ Speak ye to the whole assembly of the children of Israel, and say to them: On the tenth day of this month let every man take a lamb by their families and houses.

¹⁷ But he said: The thing thou dost is not good.

⁴ Being convicted of the offence, he shall restore

⁷ And he shall pray for him before the Lord: and he shall have forgiveness for every thing in doing of which he bath sinned.

³² And opening her mouth, devoured them with their tents and all their substance. ³³ And they went down alive into hell, the ground closing upon them, and they perished from among the people.

⁵ And Samuel said: Gather all Israel to Masphath, that I may pray to the Lord for you.

⁸ And they said to Samuel: Cease not to cry to the Lord our God for us, that he may save us out of the hand of the Philistines.

¹⁹ And all the people greatly feared the Lord and Samuel. And all the people said to Samuel: Pray for thy servants to the Lord thy God, that we may not die, for we have added to all our sins this evil, to ask for a king.

²³ And far from me be this sin against the Lord, that I should cease to pray for you: and I will teach you the good and right way.

¹⁷ And David said to the Lord, when he saw the angel striking the people: It is I; I am he that have sinned, I have done wickedly: these that are the sheep, what have they done? let thy hand, I beseech thee, be turned against me, and against my father's house.

⁶ And the king said to the man of God: Entreat the face of the Lord thy God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored to me. And the man of God besought the face of the Lord, and the king's hand was restored to him, and it became as it was before.

¹ After many days, the word of the Lord came to Elias, in the third year, saying: Go, and shew thyself to Achab, that I may give rain upon the face of the earth. ² And Elias went to shew himself to Achab, and there was a grievous famine in Samaria. ³ And Achab called Abdias the governor of his house: now Abdias feared the Lord very much. ⁴ For when Jezabel killed the prophets of the Lord, he took a hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty and fifty in caves, and fed them with bread and water. ⁵ And Achab said to Abdias: Go into the land unto all fountains of waters, and into all valleys, to see if we can find grass, and save the horses and mules, that the beasts may not utterly perish. ⁶ And they divided the countries between them, that they might go round about them: Achab went one way, and Abdias another way by himself. ⁷ And as Abdias was in the way, Elias met him: and he knew him, and fell on his face, and said: Art thou my lord Elias? ⁸ And he answered: I am. Go, and tell thy master: Elias is here. ⁹ And he said: What have I sinned, that thou wouldst deliver me, thy servant, into the hand of Achab, that he should kill me? ¹⁰ As the Lord thy God liveth, there is no nation or kingdom, whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee: and when all answered: He is not here: he took an oath of every kingdom and nation, because thou wast not found. ¹¹ And now thou sayest to me: Go and tell thy master: Elias is here. ¹² And when I am gone from thee, the Spirit of the Lord will carry thee into a place that I know not: and I shall go in and tell Achab; and he, not finding thee, will kill me: but thy servant feareth the Lord from his infancy. ¹³ Hath it not been told thee, my lord, what I did when Jezabel killed the prophets of the Lord; how I hid a hundred men of the prophets of the Lord, by fifty and fifty in caves, and fed them with bread and water? ¹⁴ And now thou sayest: Go and tell thy master: Elias is here: that he may kill me. ¹⁵ And Elias said: As the Lord of hosts liveth, before whose face I stand, this day I will shew myself unto him. ¹⁶ Abdias therefore went to meet Achab, and told him: and Achab came to meet Elias. ¹⁷ And when he had seen him, he said: Art thou he that troublest Israel? ¹⁸ And he said: I have not troubled Israel, but thou and thy father's house, who have forsaken the commandments of the Lord, and have followed Baalim. ¹⁹ Nevertheless send now, and gather unto me all Israel, unto Mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves four hundred, who eat at Jezabel's table. ²⁰ Achab sent to all the children of Israel, and gathered together the prophets unto mount Carmel. ²¹ And Elias coming to all the people, said: How long do you halt between two sides? If the Lord be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people did not answer him a word. ²² And Elias said again to the people: I only remain a prophet of the Lord: but the prophets of Baal are four hundred and fifty men. ²³ Let two bullocks be given us, and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it upon wood, but put no fire under: and I will dress the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under it. ²⁴ Call ye on the names of your gods, and I will call on the name of my Lord: and the God that shall answer by fire, let him be God. And all the people answering, said: A very good proposal. ²⁵ Then Elias said to the prophets of Baal: Choose you one bullock and dress it first, because you are many: and call on the names of your gods; but put no fire under. ²⁶ And they took the bullock, which he gave them, and dressed it: and they called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying: O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered: and they leaped over the altar that they had made. ²⁷ And when it was now noon, Elias jested at them, saying: Cry with a louder voice: for he is a god; and perhaps he is talking, or is in an inn, or on a journey; or perhaps he is asleep, and must be awaked. ²⁸ So they cried with a loud voice, and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lancets, till they were all covered with blood. ²⁹ And after midday was past, and while they were prophesying, the time was come of offering sacrifice, and there was no voice heard, nor did any one answer, nor regard them as they prayed. ³⁰ Elias said to all the people: Come ye unto me. And the people coming near unto him, he repaired the altar of the Lord, that was broken down: ³¹ And he took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob to whom the word of the Lord came, saying: Israel shall be thy name. ³² And he built with the stones an altar to the name of the Lord: and he made a trench for water, of the breadth of two furrows, round about the altar. ³³ And he laid the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid it upon the wood. ³⁴ And he said: Fill four buckets with water, and pour it upon the burnt offering, and upon the wood. And again he said: Do the same the second time. And when they had done it the second time, he said: Do the same also the third time. And they did so the third time. ³⁵ And the water run round about the altar, and the trench was filled with water. ³⁶ And when it was now time to offer the holocaust, Elias, the prophet, came near and said: O Lord God of Abraham, and Isaac, and Israel, shew this day that thou art the God of Israel, and I thy servant, and that according to thy commandment I have done all these things. ³⁷ Dear me, O Lord, hear me: that this people may learn that thou art the Lord God, and that thou hast turned their heart again. ³⁸ Then the fire of the Lord fell, and consumed the holocaust, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. ³⁹ And when all the people saw this, they fell on their faces, and they said: The Lord, he is God; the Lord, he is God. ⁴⁰ And Elias said to them: Take the prophets of Baal, and let not one of them escape. And when they had taken them, Elias brought them down to the torrent Cison, and killed them there. ⁴¹ And Elias said to Achab: Go up, eat and drink: for there is a sound of abundance of rain. ⁴² Achab went up to eat and drink: and Elias went up to the top of Carmel, and casting himself down upon the earth, put his face between his knees, ⁴³ And he said to his servant: Go up, and look towards the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said: There is nothing. And again he said to him: Return seven times. ⁴⁴ And at the seventh time: Behold a little cloud arose out of the sea like a man's foot. And he said: Go up, and say to Achab: Prepare thy chariot, and go down, lest the rain prevent thee. ⁴⁵ And while he turned himself this way and that way, behold the heavens grew dark, with clouds and wind, and there fell a great rain. And Achab getting up, went away to Jezrahel: ⁴⁶ And the hand of the Lord was upon Elias, and he girded up his loins, and ran before Achab, till he came to Jezrahel.

¹¹ Naaman was angry, and went away, saying: I thought he would have come out to me, and standing, would have invoked the name of the Lord his God, and touched with his hand the place of the leprosy, and healed me.

² And he sent Eliacim, who was over the house, and Sobna, the scribe, and the ancients of the priests, covered with sackcloths, to Isaias, the prophet, the son of Amos. ³ And they said to him: Thus saith Ezechias: This day is a day of tribulation, and of rebuke, and of blasphemy: the children are come to the birth, and the woman in travail hath not strength. ⁴ It may be the Lord, thy God, will hear all the words of Rabsaces, whom the king of the Assyrians, his master, hath sent to reproach the living God, and to reprove with words, which the Lord, thy God, hath heard: and do thou offer prayer for the remnants that are found.

²² Touch not my anointed: and do no evil to my prophets.

¹⁹ Who accepteth not the persons of princes: nor hath regarded the tyrant, when he contended against the poor man: for all are the work of his hands.

⁸ Take unto you therefore seven oxen and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer for yourselves a holocaust, and my servant Job shall pray for you: his face I will accept, that folly be not imputed to you: for you have not spoken right things before me, as my servant Job hath.

¹⁴ The Lord is a firmament to them that fear him: and his covenant shall be made manifest to them.

⁹ Which he made to Abraham; and his oath to Isaac: ¹⁰ And he appointed the same to Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting testament: ¹¹ Saying: To thee will I give the land of Chanaan, the lot of your inheritance. ¹² When they were but a small number: yea very few, and sojourners therein: ¹³ And they passed from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another people. ¹⁴ He suffered no man to hurt them: and he reproved kings for their sakes. ¹⁵ Touch ye not my anointed: and do no evil to my prophets.

¹¹ And the Lord said to me: Pray not for this people for their good.

¹ And the Lord said to me: If Moses and Samuel shall stand before me, my soul is not towards this people: cast them out from my sight, and let them go forth.

¹⁸ But if they be prophets, and the word of the Lord be in them: let them interpose themselves before the Lord of hosts, that the vessels which were left in the house of the Lord, and in the house of the king of Juda, and in Jerusalem, may not go to Babylon.

¹⁸ If, when I say to the wicked, Thou shalt surely die: thou declare it not to him, nor speak to him, that he may be converted from his wicked way, and live: the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but I will require his blood at thy hand.

⁸ When I say to the wicked: O wicked man, thou shalt surely die: if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked man from his way: that wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but I will require his blood at thy hand.

¹⁴ And it I shall say to the wicked: Thou shalt surely die: and he do penance for his sin, and do judgment and justice, ¹⁵ And if that wicked man restore the pledge, and render what he had robbed, and walk in the commandments of life, and do no unjust thing: he shall surely live, and shall not die. ¹⁶ None of his sins, which he hath committed, shall be imputed to him: he hath done judgment and justice, he shall surely live.

⁴ He that speaketh in a tongue edifieth himself: but he that prophesieth, edifieth the church.

¹ God, who, at sundry times and in divers manners, spoke in times past to the fathers by the prophets, last of all,

⁴ Marriage honourable in all, and the bed undefiled. For fornicators and adulterers God will judge.

¹⁴ Is any man sick among you? Let him bring in the priests of the church and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. ¹⁵ And the prayer of faith shall save the sick man. And the Lord shall raise him up: and if he be in sins, they shall be forgiven him. ¹⁶ Confess therefore your sins one to another: and pray one for another, that you may be saved. For the continual prayer of a just man availeth much.

¹⁶ He that knoweth his brother to sin a sin which is not to death, let him ask: and life shall be given to him who sinneth not to death. There is a sin unto death. For that I say not that any man ask.

⁵ And if any man will hurt them, fire shall come out of their mouths and shall devour their enemies. And if any man will hurt them, in this manner must he be slain. ⁶ These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: And they have power over waters, to turn them into blood and to strike the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.
