² And thou mayst tell in the ears of thy sons, and of thy grandsons, how often I have plagued the Egyptians, and wrought my signs amongst them: and you may know that I am the Lord.

¹⁷ Thus therefore saith the Lord: In this thou shalt know that I am the Lord: behold I will strike with the rod, that is in my hand, the water of the river, and it shall be turned into blood.

²⁶ And when your children shall say to you: What is the meaning of this service? ²⁷ You shall say to them: It is the victim of the passage of the Lord, when he passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, striking the Egyptians, and saving our houses. And the people bowing themselves, adored.

⁸ And thou shalt tell thy son in that day, saying: This is what the Lord did to me when I came forth out of Egypt. ⁹ And it shall be as a sign in thy hand, and as a memorial before thy eyes; and that the law of the Lord be always in thy mouth, for with a strong hand the Lord hath brought thee out of the land of Egypt.

¹⁴ And when thy son shall ask thee to morrow, saying: What is this? thou shalt answer him: With a strong hand did the Lord bring us forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

⁹ Keep thyself therefore, and thy soul carefully. Forget not the words that thy eyes have seen, and let them not go out of thy heart all the days of thy life. Thou shalt teach them to thy sons and to thy grandsons,

²⁰ And when thy son shall ask thee to morrow, saying: What mean these testimonies, and ceremonies and judgments, which the Lord our God hath commanded us? ²¹ Thou shalt say to him: We were bondmen of Pharao in Egypt, and the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a strong hand. ²² And he wrought signs and wonders great and very grievous in Egypt against Pharao, and all his house, in our sight,

¹ Unto the end, for the sons of Core, to give understanding. ^(44:2) We have heard, O God, with our ears: our fathers have declared to us, The work thou hast wrought in their days, and in the days of old.

^{11 (58:12)} And man shall say: If indeed there be fruit to the just: there is indeed a God that judgeth them on the earth.

¹⁸ And unto old age and grey hairs: O God, forsake me not, Until I shew forth thy arm to all the generation that is to come: Thy power,

⁵ And he set up a testimony in Jacob: and made a law in Israel. How great things he commanded our fathers, that they should make the same known to their children: ⁶ That another generation might know them. The children that should be born and should rise up, and declare them to their children.

²⁶ And I polluted them in their own gifts, when they offered all that opened the womb, for their offences: and they shall know that I am the Lord.

²⁸ And I had brought them into the land, for which I lifted up my hand to give it them: they saw every high hill, and every shady tree, and there they sacrificed their victims: and there they presented the provocation of their offerings, and there they set their sweet odours, and poured forth their libations.

³ Tell ye of this to your children, and let your children tell their children, and their children to another generation.

⁴ And you, fathers, provoke not your children to anger: but bring them up in the discipline and correction of the Lord.
