¹ For this cause, I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ, for you Gentiles:

¹² But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and into prisons, dragging you before kings and governors, for my name's sake.

³³ Then the tribune, coming near, took him and commanded him to be bound with two chains: and demanded who he was and what he had done.

¹⁸ And he, taking him, brought him to the tribune and said: Paul, the prisoner, desired me to bring this young man unto thee, who hath some thing to say to thee.

²⁹ And Paul said: I would to God that both in a little and in much, not only thou, but also all that hear me this day, should become such as I also am, except these bands.

¹⁷ And after the third day, he called together the chief of the Jews. And when they were assembled, he said to them: Men, brethren, I, having done nothing against the people or the custom of our fathers, was delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans. ¹⁸ Who, when they had examined me, would have released me, for that there was no cause of death in me. ¹⁹ But the Jews contradicting it, I was constrained to appeal unto Caesar: not that I had anything to accuse my nation of. ²⁰ For this cause therefore I desired to see you and to speak to you. Because that for the hope of Israel, I am bound with this chain.

¹ Now I Paul, myself beseech you, by the mildness and modesty of Christ: who in presence indeed am lowly among you, but being absent am bold toward you.

²³ They are the ministers of Christ (I speak as one less wise): I am more; in many more labours, in prisons more frequently, in stripes above measure, in deaths often.

² Behold, I Paul tell you, that if you be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing.

¹¹ And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution? Then is the scandal of the cross made void.

¹³ Wherefore I pray you not to faint at my tribulations for you, which is your glory.

¹ I therefore, a prisoner in the Lord, beseech you that you walk worthy of the vocation in which you are called:

²⁰ For which I am an ambassador in a chain: so that therein I may be bold to speak according as I ought.

⁷ As it is meet for me to think this for you all, for that I have you in my heart; and that, in my bands and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers of my joy.

¹³ So that my bands are made manifest in Christ, in all the court and in all other places. ¹⁴ And many of the brethren in the Lord, growing confident by my bands, are much more bold to speak the word of God without fear. ¹⁵ Some indeed, even out of envy and contention: but some also for good will preach Christ. ¹⁶ Some out of charity, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.

²⁴ Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you and fill up those things that are wanting of the sufferings of Christ, in my flesh, for his body, which is the church:

³ Praying withal for us also, that God may open unto us a door of speech to speak the mystery of Christ (for which also I am bound):

¹⁸ The salutation of Paul with my own hand. Be mindful of my bands. Grace be with you. Amen.

¹⁵ Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and the prophets, and have persecuted us, and please not God, and are adversaries to all men; ¹⁶ Prohibiting us to speak to the Gentiles, that they may be saved, to fill up their sins always: for the wrath of God is come upon them to the end.

⁸ Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but labour with the gospel, according to the power of God.

¹⁶ The Lord give mercy to the house of Onesiphorus: because he hath often refreshed me and hath not been ashamed of my chain:

⁹ Wherein I labour even unto bands, as an evildoer. But the word of God is not bound. ¹⁰ Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus, with heavenly glory.

¹ Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy, a brother: to Philemon, our beloved and fellow labourer,

⁹ For charity sake I rather beseech, whereas thou art such a one, as Paul, an old man and now a prisoner also of Jesus Christ.

²³ There salute thee Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus:

¹⁰ Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer. Behold, the devil will cast some of you into prison, that you may be tried: and you shall have tribulation ten days. Be thou faithful unto death: and I will give thee the crown of life.
