¹ Baltasar, the king, made a great feast for a thousand of his nobles: and every one drank according to his age.

²⁰ The third day after this was the birthday of Pharao: and he made a great feast for his servants, and at the banquet remembered the chief butler, and the chief baker.

³ Now in the third year of his reign he made a great feast for all the princes, and for his servants, for the most mighty of the Persians, and the nobles of the Medes, and the governors of the provinces in his sight,

⁴ My heart failed, darkness amazed me: Babylon my beloved is become a wonder to me. ⁵ Prepare the table, behold in the watchtower them that eat and drink: arise, ye princes, take up the shield.

¹² And the Lord, the God of hosts, in that day shall call to weeping, and to mourning, to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth:

¹⁴ And the voice of the Lord of hosts was revealed in my ears: Surely this iniquity shall not be forgiven you till you die, saith the Lord God of hosts.

³⁹ In their heat I will set them drink: and I will make them drunk, that they may slumber, and sleep an everlasting sleep, and awake no more, saith the Lord.

⁵⁷ And I will make her princes drunk, and her wise men, and her captains, and her rulers, and her valiant men: and they shall sleep an everlasting sleep, and shall awake no more, saith the king whose name is Lord of hosts.

¹⁰ For as thorns embrace one another: so while they are feasting and drinking together, they shall be consumed as stubble that is fully dry.

²¹ And when a convenient day was come, Herod made a supper for his birthday, for the princes, and tribunes, and chief men of Galilee. ²² And when the daughter of the same Herodias had come in, and had danced, and pleased Herod, and them that were at table with him, the king said to the damsel: Ask of me what thou wilt, and I will give it thee.
